The latest transport round-up.
Transcript
00:00The London Underground can often feel like a furnace in the summer, and now we know for sure which line tops the charts when it comes to heat.
00:11New data confirmed the hottest tube line, and it's probably no surprise to regular commuters.
00:19During the latest heatwave, Transport for London rolled out its hot weather plan in an effort to keep things as bearable as possible for passengers,
00:29a spokesman said that air conditioning was available on several lines and that passengers were being encouraged to carry water and check in on fellow travellers.
00:41According to TfL, around 40% of the trains across the network are fitted with air conditioning,
00:48and that includes the Circle, Hammersmith and City, the District line and the Metropolitan lines, all of which came in with the lowest average temperature.
00:58They added that the Elizabeth line and London Overground trains are also air-conditioned as well.
01:06Now, when it comes to the older lines, TfL explained that they've brought in various station cooling systems,
01:13think industrial-sized fans and also large chiller units, to try and pump cold air into some of the more stifling spaces.
01:23So, as for the hottest lines, according to a new Freedom of Information request submitted by Making Moves,
01:32the Victoria line is expected to hit the top spot in 2025,
01:36with temperatures predicted to reach a sweltering 32 degrees at the height of summer.
01:42The central line isn't far behind, with an expected peak of 31.4 degrees in August,
01:47and coming in third is the Bakerloo line, which is also set to be uncomfortably warm as well.
01:54Now, at the cooler end of the spectrum is the Waterloo and City line,
01:58which connects several Overground stations and is forecast to hit a more manageable high of 25 degrees Celsius.
02:07Then the Elizabeth line and the Overground has better ventilation and air-con,
02:12and are generally more comfortable options.
02:14In other transport news, TfL has announced that regulation of pedicabs is one step closer
02:22after a recent consultation found strong public backing for the move.
02:29Pedicabs, often seen in central London around the Soho area,
02:33are currently the only form of public transport in the capital that remain unregulated.
02:39Will Norman, London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner,
02:43said they could be a fun and sustainable way to get around,
02:47but has warned that some drivers had been acting irresponsibly,
02:52with reports of unsafe or anti-social behaviour,
02:55and some charging sky-high fares as well.
