00:00The Giants, their offense is putrid right now.
00:03I don't know if there's anything that can fix it.
00:05Can Bob Melvin do anything, quite frankly, to fix it?
00:08We'll talk to Bob Brenly, another Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob.
00:10Bob Brenly, former manager of the D-backs, former Giants catcher,
00:13joining us at 8.30, courtesy of River Islands.
00:16We'll discuss the series coming up, because he is a current broadcaster,
00:19obviously, with the D-backs as well.
00:20Just a massive, massive NLS showdown.
00:24Starting right here on June 30th, Joe.
00:25This is kind of a make-or-break week for the Giants.
00:27I truly believe that.
00:28You're going up against your division rival that's also battling for a wild-card spot.
00:32You're going up against a bad Sacramento, Las Vegas, California, Golden State,
00:38whatever you want to call them, A's team.
00:40This is getting shelled at home.
00:42You're going to be playing in Sacramento, AAA ballpark.
00:44Your bats can't get going there.
00:46I don't know what to tell you.
00:47I just don't.
00:48And we'll take Will and Morin here in a second to put a bow in this LeBron talk,
00:52but the Giants are the bugaboo right now in the bay.
00:54And 888-957-9570.
00:56Daryl, what is your panic meter in regards to the Giantes?
01:00But first, Will and Morin, let's just get it out of the way.
01:04Will, you're taking LeBron on the Warriors right now if you could trade for him.
01:10100%.
01:10Look, here's the thing, Shasky.
01:11I totally agree.
01:12He's very hypocritical and a sore loser at times.
01:15I understand there was a point in time where he was complaining about super teams
01:18when he was the one that created it in Miami.
01:20I also heard the interview about the ring culture that was very flip-floppy.
01:24But just hear me out.
01:25He's unstoppable.
01:26He's a great passer.
01:28He has a massive respect for Kerr.
01:29I just watched that Olympic documentary, the sixth episode.
01:32He really likes his philosophy, the way that he coaches.
01:36He absolutely loves Steph Curry.
01:38We would have swept Houston had we had him.
01:41He would have been that unstoppable force that we needed.
01:43He also would have been that bucket getter that we needed when Steph was out.
01:48Our panic meter wouldn't have been as big.
01:50It would have taken a lot less pressure off of Jimmy.
01:53I know we might have probably not been able to make that deal because we'd be paying him.
01:56But he also is a really good game manager, and his IQ is through the roof.
02:02He's like having a coach one on the floor.
02:04So I love LeBron as the player.
02:06But, yes, I'm also very fatigued about LeBron with his attitude.
02:10But, I mean, think about it.
02:11When you have that much greatness in one building, he can't just be that locust.
02:16He can't do that with a Steph Curry or a Kerr.
02:19Those are two Hall of Famers in their own right.
02:21And then also with a guy with a dog like Draymond Green, he loves stuff like that.
02:25I think he would blend in phenomenally with the Warriors.
02:28Well, it's too logical.
02:29You're being too logical.
02:30Listen, it's very simple.
02:31You're being too logical.
02:32Okay?
02:33Last year we had Wiggins, and I was open to anything, and we didn't feel, you know, very optimistic.
02:38Now I want LeBron to die on the vine and go somewhere else and be ringless at the end of his career.
02:44I don't want him coming here.
02:46I'm over it.
02:47And there's no logical or rational opinion other than, screw him.
02:51It's pretty simple to me.
02:52Yesterday I wanted Chinese food.
02:54Today I might want Mexican.
02:56Last year I wanted LeBron.
02:57We had Wiggins.
02:58This year I don't.
02:59Like, we're overthinking this.
03:02It's okay.
03:03And they already have their game manager.
03:05It's Brandon Pajemski.
03:06See him in every single Valkyries game, too, by the way.
03:08So we're good.
03:09We've got a guy to handle the offense.
03:10A young phenom in Brandon Pajemski, baby.
03:14We all know what LeBron is as a player.
03:15I'm done with LeBron.
03:16We're done.
03:16He needs to go.
03:17Just go away.
03:19Just go away.
03:20I don't want to hear from you.
03:21Well, I want these bats to, like, go away right now for the Giants because they're struggling mightily, Joe.
03:27I'm tired of watching them.
03:29I'm getting bored.
03:29Like, a girl Sandy in San Francisco.
03:32I'm with Sandy.
03:33I'm bored watching this offense.
03:34What can change?
03:36Wilmer Flores is in a really weird spot right now, and I want to bring him up for a very specific reason.
03:45Real quick, before you get to that, on June 30th, we're talking Wilmer Flores being a key cog to the offense.
03:51No, I don't think he is anymore, which is really, like, crummy.
03:55I think something happened.
03:57You know, B brought this up on Friday when he came in and he started working with us.
04:01And that last hour, he was like, you know, Wilmer, and I don't know, I don't know.
04:05And, like, I watched all of his at-bats over the weekend.
04:08And this isn't about just this weekend.
04:10It's, like, the big picture.
04:13He's not a first baseman.
04:14Would you agree?
04:15Defensively.
04:15Yeah, he's not.
04:16Okay.
04:16And if he's not going to stay as your DH, because Devers is going to be your DH, like, as much as I need to get his bat in the lineup, to me, he's a guy I would consider moving to get something back of value at a different position.
04:33And you might be taking a loss in terms of, like, overall net value that it brings to the table.
04:38I think he's redundant, given that he's a right-handed DH who can't play first base.
04:46I also think right now, if you were to bet on him the rest of the year, you're probably betting against him.
04:51Like, him replicating what he did for the first two and a half months versus what he's going to do going into August and into September, I don't think he's going to thrive later on in the second half.
05:03Is there any chance this team could have gone just in the span of a few weeks from buyers to sellers at the deadline?
05:10Is that even...
05:10We're not there yet.
05:11We're not there yet.
05:12Okay, but...
05:12We're not there yet.
05:12But...
05:13No, but I think they have some things...
05:14We're trending in that direction, or we're trending in no moves at all.
05:17No, no, no.
05:18See, forget the word buyer or seller, right?
05:20Let's...
05:21I think they need to swap some things out, right?
05:24So you give to get, right?
05:25In this situation, you might be giving away a guy that brings more to the plate in Wilmer Flores.
05:31I think you need to get something back, whether that's a starter, free up another position.
05:35Dom Smith should be playing first base defensively.
05:38And look, that is...
05:40He is not going to hit the way he did early on, right?
05:43I understand that.
05:44But if Bryce Eldridge is not going to be playing for you, and I don't know what's going on with Devers defensively at first base,
05:51I personally would put Dom Smith at first base, and I would try to move Wilmer Flores.
05:56And I like Wilmer.
05:57I know all the things he brings to the table.
05:59I think with Devers now, as one of the leaders on the team, I think you're able to move Wilmer Flores and get something back.
06:07They need a legitimate power-hitting outfielder.
06:11And if that means I'm moving Yaz to center field, and I'm playing some combination of Yaz and Jung-Hoo Lee,
06:16because Jung-Hoo Lee has got an unmovable contract, then so be it.
06:20But I think they need to look for power in the outfield.
06:22I think they need to look for another starting pitcher.
06:24I think they need to look for a catcher.
06:25Or I'll take either of the catchers for the Chicago White Sox that we saw over the weekend.
06:30So I get back to Wilmer Flores, and I say to myself, like,
06:32are you going to bet on him being as good as he was in the first half,
06:36or are you going to bet against him?
06:39888-957-9570.
06:41Bob Brenley joining us in an hour.
06:43Manager, former manager of the Arizona Dimebacks,
06:46obviously, played and coached with Bob Melvin.
06:49So he knows Bo Melvin very well.
06:51Is there anything Bob Melvin could do right now?
06:52I want to ask Bob about that.
06:53Like, if he's been in this situation, because it's an up-and-down season.
06:57That's what it is.
06:57It's a game of runs.
06:58Whether it's the pitching going well, whether it's the bats going well.
07:02Sometimes both are going well.
07:03Sometimes both are in the tank.
07:05But, like, what can you do right now if you're Bob Melvin?
07:07I'm genuinely curious.
07:09Is there anything Bob Melvin can do?
07:11888-957-9570.
07:13And as far as, like, guys that are untradeable on this team,
07:17because I do think that's interesting.
07:18Wilmer Flores.
07:19Like, the guy's getting older.
07:20He's like the grizzled vet on this team.
07:22He's about 33 going on 34.
07:24He's been up there.
07:24He doesn't really have a position on this team right now.
07:27So if you could move him for, like, a bullpen arm at the very least,
07:29like, yeah, I'd love that.
07:30I don't think you're going to get, like, a legit starting pitch.
07:32Like, Wilmer Flores, like, come on.
07:33No, but they need, like, another fourth or fifth starter.
07:36A fringe guy.
07:36I think, like, Landon Rube has been excellent.
07:39Like, a long man slash, like, spot starter.
07:41Somebody that they could plot in.
07:42I think they need a veteran.
07:43And you don't know what's going to happen with Hayden Birdsong.
07:46And you don't know what's going to happen with Landon Rube in the second half.
07:48And you don't know if Carson Wiseman, who's in AAA,
07:52is going to be a contributor or not.
07:53I think they need another arm.
07:55And if you can get a catcher somewhere, I think you need to explore it.
07:58Here's Bob Melvin.
08:00Was this from yesterday, Sammy?
08:01Bomell?
08:01Thumbs up.
08:02Bob Melvin on the Giants' inability to beat bad teams.
08:07It's tough to win regardless.
08:09So we've beaten good teams.
08:10We've lost to teams that records aren't great.
08:13But, you know, every team in the big league has got a chance to beat you.
08:17And so we just have to get on the winning track no matter who we play.
08:20I always love that.
08:21Because it's, you know, baseball, it's not the same as football.
08:24Like, if the Niners were to lose to, I don't know, next year who they play,
08:28but the Carolina Panthers, it'd be awful.
08:31It'd be horrible.
08:32Like, you lost to that team that we know is a dumpster fire?
08:34That cannot happen.
08:36Like, and I got to get credit, Bob, here,
08:38because he's not trying to dump on other organizations.
08:40He's been a part of teams that were bad, too.
08:42I get it.
08:43You don't want to disrespect anyone.
08:45Will Venable, I'm sure he knows.
08:46I'm like, that's great.
08:47The fact of the matter is you can't lose to the Chicago White Sox.
08:51You just can't.
08:52You can't lose to the Miami Marlins.
08:55You can't lose to these teams, Joe,
08:56and expect me to take you seriously when you're six games over right now.
09:00So, like, at the very least, I'm expecting,
09:02can you just get a split against the Arizona Dimebacks?
09:05That's literally all I'm at.
09:06At the minimum, get a split.
09:08Yes, if we take the three of the four,
09:09that would feel great heading into a massive series
09:11against the A's before coming home.
09:13Like, all of a sudden,
09:15I did not expect a series against, you know,
09:18the A's maybe in the beginning of July,
09:21heading into next weekend,
09:22to be this important for this team going into the All-Star break.
09:26Because you got the Phillies, you got the Dodgers,
09:28you better take care of business this week.
09:30Because if you don't, you mentioned something earlier.
09:33Then I'm forgetting you.
09:34And I don't want to forget about the Giants.
09:36I don't want them to be, you know,
09:37buried at the bottom of our sports talk
09:40in the next couple months.
09:41I thought with that Devers trade, Joe,
09:43they could be there, you know,
09:45contending when it comes to our discussions
09:47with the Warriors,
09:49with the 49ers coming up.
09:51But they're in danger of becoming out of sight, out of mind.
09:54That's what you don't want.
