00:00Because you hate Dodgers and you hate their fandom and all that they represent.
00:04Dodgers, Giants, this upcoming weekend, by the way.
00:07Mark DeRosa, former Giant.
00:10You see him all the time at MLB Network.
00:12Coach was the manager for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.
00:16I thought he did actually a pretty damn good job on that.
00:18I think we forget how awesome that World Baseball Classic was, by the way.
00:21It came down to Shohei Otani for Japan.
00:23Mike Trout, Team USA.
00:24Teammates at the time, right?
00:26Pretty freaking cool stuff.
00:27But Mark DeRosa said, and this is from this morning, Sammy.
00:31Thumbs up.
00:32Check this out.
00:34MLB Network, on the Giants' chances in the NL West without Matt Chapman now for the foreseeable future.
00:43Take a listen to this.
00:44Then I go to the Giants.
00:46No Matt Chapman.
00:47They struggled to score runs mightily, as is, as currently constructed.
00:51And with no Matt Chapman, Willie Adamas, Bob Melvin, gave him a couple days' mental break to rework his swing.
00:57He went deep last night.
00:58Went deep last night.
00:58So maybe there's something there.
01:00They have, their pitching staff has been lights out.
01:03Their starting rotation's been lights out.
01:05Robbie Ray and Logan Webb, those guys have been fantastic.
01:09It'll be interesting there.
01:11Okay, be interesting there.
01:12But he still thinks the NL West is a two-horse race.
01:17I think that it comes down to the Dodgers and the Padres.
01:20I really do.
01:20Can the Dodgers get healthy enough in time?
01:23I still think the Dodgers win the division.
01:25I think the Padres end up in the postseason.
01:27And then you're going to have a battle for that third wildcard spot of, like, the Giants, the D-backs, the Braves, the Brewers.
01:35Wait, the Braves, really?
01:37Aren't they nine back of a wildcard spot right now?
01:39They are, but I do believe you're going to have to bury them for me to not think that they get on a run at some point.
01:48They're 10 games below 500, the Braves.
01:50Do we believe in anybody besides the Cubs and the NL Central?
01:54I mean, the Cardinals are five games back.
01:56I don't know.
01:57I want to see what they do at the deadline.
01:58The Brewers.
01:59Weren't you hot?
02:00He's making the best points out of all of them.
02:02She was crushing him right there.
02:03I kind of love that.
02:04Play that sound again.
02:05It was like one guy giving you Kendrick Perkins takes regarding Major League Baseball and somebody else who's just paying attention, like, going, what about this team?
02:14And what about that?
02:15Give me that again.
02:16Mark DeRosa.
02:17It's a two-horse race for the NL West.
02:19I think that it comes down to the Dodgers and the Padres.
02:22I really do.
02:22Can the Dodgers get healthy enough in time?
02:24I still think the Dodgers win the division.
02:27I think the Padres end up in the postseason.
02:29And then you're going to have a battle for that third wild card spot of, like, the Giants, the D-backs, the Braves, the Brewers.
02:37Wait, the Braves?
02:38Really?
02:39Aren't they nine back of a wild card spot right now?
02:41They are.
02:42But I do believe you're going to have to bury them for me to not think that they get on a run at some point.
02:50They're 10 games below 500, the Braves.
02:52Do we believe in anybody besides the Cubs and the NL Central?
02:56I mean, the Cardinals are five games back.
02:57I don't know.
02:59I want to see what they do at the deadline.
03:00The Brewers.
03:01She's right.
03:03The Cardinals are right there for the Phillies who have lost two of their last –
03:06or they've only won two of their last 10 games.
03:09That's me and my wife trying to order dinner.
03:11Like, do you want Italian?
03:12We had Italian four nights ago.
03:14Okay.
03:15Do you want Chinese?
03:16I do, but I don't.
03:19Oh, my God.
03:20No, the worst is when you do all that.
03:21That was great.
03:22The worst is when you do all that.
03:23Maybe we should just go get something and make it here.
03:25God, why didn't you say that an hour ago?
03:27Like, it's 7 o'clock now.
03:30I'm not driving to Safeway or Trader Joe's to get all this stuff.
03:33Come back here.
03:34By the time it's ready, it's 830, right?
03:36Trader Joe's.
03:37They got great stuff, but God, the prices.
03:39Well, no.
03:39Well, the price is actually not that bad.
03:40It's the space of just walking in there.
03:43Yeah.
03:43I have to, like, play Tetris.
03:45Everything is just tiny.
03:47I also have beef with their chocolate.
03:48Real quick, you never go card in Trader Joe's.
03:50I just learned that.
03:51You have to go basket.
03:51Oh, okay.
03:52Shout out, Hank.
03:53You have to go basket every single time.
03:55So, did you buy that, though?
03:57De Rosa's saying it's just a two-horse race between the Padres and Dodgers.
04:00Like, really?
04:02I don't know.
04:04I'm not ready to say that it's a two-horse race.
04:06There's just no way.
04:07No way.
04:08No way.
04:08This is going to be going down the stretch here.
04:10Like, I'm not saying that the Giants are the team to beat.
04:13No, that's not what I'm saying.
04:14But if you think they're going to die, then you haven't been paying attention.
04:16Should the Giants be a part of the NL West conversation?
04:21Just be a part of it, because I think a lot of people are still dismissing them, which
04:25is kind of crazy to me.
04:26Like, I think everyone's waiting for them to fail right now, and they are.
04:31But when I compare their run differential with everyone else, and it's not the end-all
04:35be-all, but it is a statistic that I like to bring up.
04:38Their run differential is plus 46, better than the Padres, who are at a plus 27, better
04:43than the Phillies, who are at a plus 12.
04:45Those are the two teams behind you in the NL wildcard race.
04:49The Cardinals, plus 26.
04:51The Brewers, plus 20.
04:52The Cincinnati Reds are at a plus 42.
04:54They've won five in a row.
04:55They're hot right now, but they're right behind the Giants' win streaks.
04:58They've won five in a row.
04:59They're also not.
05:00The freaking Nationals, they're ahead of the freaking Braves right now.
05:03They're negative 52 in their run differential.
05:06I don't know how they're doing it.
05:07And then the Braves, the aforementioned Braves, Mark DeRose, is not going to get the Braves.
05:11One shot is a great player.
05:12They're 10 games under 500.
05:13Oh, and they're a team that they're already talking about selling parts off.
05:16And they found ways to lose against the Giants over the weekend.
05:19Did they not?
05:20Their pitching has been underwhelming.
05:21Yes.
05:22But the other part about the Braves, like, I hear them on like, hey, I got to be proven
05:25on the Braves.
05:26Like, I get that stance.
05:28I love that everyone's doubting the Giants, though.
05:30I love being the doubted.
05:32I don't want to be the juggernaut team.
05:34I feel like for the last couple years, the Niners have been given this benefit of the doubt.
05:38And I feel like this year, they're going to have to go back out and re-earn it.
05:41And I actually like being in that position as opposed to being the hunted.
05:45You think they were feeling themselves a little bit last year?
05:47I think everyone was.
05:48Okay.
05:48And they kind of bought into their own hype.
05:50That happens.
05:50Yeah.
05:51You know, that happens.
05:52But that's okay to be on that wave of, hey, we're the favorites.
05:56And, you know, until proven otherwise, like, I get all that.
05:59But at some point, it is okay to be knocked down and be humbled and then have to prove
06:03it to everyone.
06:04And I think the Giants are in a, you've got to prove it for people to believe it mode.
06:08And I'm fine with that.
06:09I'm totally fine with that.
06:10Keep doubting us.
06:12Are you going up against the Dodgers and the Padres?
06:15Or are you going to be fighting the D-backs for that third wildcard spot?
06:18I don't know about the D-backs right now.
06:20I'm not giving up on the West.
06:21I'm not either.
06:22Mark DeRosa seems to think it's a two-horse race still.
06:26And he might think the D-backs are all of a sudden out of it.
06:30Really?
06:31The Diamondbacks, Mark, they're out of it?
06:32We all believe in Torrey Lavella.
06:34Yes, we do.
06:34Yes.
06:35Believe in that lineup, too.
06:36We believe in that lineup as well.
06:37But can they overcome losing Corbin Burns until mid-next year, minimum?
06:43Justin Martinez is going for a second opinion.
06:46Looks like he's headed for a second Tommy John.
06:47Their bullpen is going to be in disarray.
06:50But you haven't seen the best from the starters.
06:54What I will say is, Nase, what were you saying?
06:57The Braves were where?
06:59They were eight and a half out last year at about the same time?
07:02Oh, that's it.
07:03Not the Braves.
07:04The Tigers were eight and a half out last year in August and found a way to rattle all
07:09the way to the ALCS.
07:11So they can get it done.
07:14You're asking a lot for the D-backs to make a run here.
07:17I mean, I don't think it's asking that much of them to just have better.
07:20And as Lauren Shawty, again, that's usually put, like, there are guys that they lean on
07:24usually, the Merrill Kellys, the Zach Gallens, haven't pitched all that well.
07:28All of a sudden, they start pitching well.
07:30Like, Corbin Carroll is an igniter for any team.
07:33That guy in and of himself can get hot.
07:35I love Quetel Marte.
07:37I'm not writing off the D-backs.
07:38Just like I'm not writing off, like, he doesn't want to write off the Braves who are 10 games
07:43under, but you're going to write off the D-backs who are one game under?
07:46Like, I, yeah.
07:47Here's the thing with the Diamondbacks, which I find perplexing.
07:51MLB.com, I send you guys these articles that are on MLB.com all the time.
07:55And it's like one trade chip for each team.
07:58You know, these articles that you'll see.
07:59It's interesting, yeah.
08:00It always comes back to Zach Gallen being traded away by the Diamondbacks.
08:04And the reasoning behind it makes sense.
08:07Like, it makes sense when I read it, but then I step back and I'm like, why would you trade
08:10your best pitcher?
08:11But they're like, hey, he can get them back a lot of stuff.
08:14But they would have to acknowledge we're out of it this year.
08:17The latest, by the way, of all the rumor mill, the Moroses of the world, who we have sound
08:23of, of J.P. Morose of MLB Network.
08:26The New York Mets, very interested in one Zach Gallen.
08:31See what I'm saying?
08:33Like, that's the other team in the NL, obviously, that everyone has their eyes on.
08:37That's the team that always goes after the big fish.
08:39Hell, they got the biggest fish of the offseason in one Juan Soto.
08:42They've picked up where they left off.
08:44They are red hot, by the way.
08:45They've won four in a row, eight and two in their last ten.
08:48They're 43 and 24, Joe.
08:49They're right there with the Droit Tigers and talking about best records in all of baseball.
08:53We haven't had the conversation, so we can have it right now.
08:56Missing out on Corbin Burns ended up being a huge blessing in disguise.
08:59Yeah, yeah.
09:00I mean, a huge, huge blessing in disguise.
09:03It is.
09:03And I was wrong.
09:04I wanted him.
09:05I wanted to bring him.
09:06I thought, not that they were cheap, but it was like, come on, like, do you really want
09:09this guy, or are you just kind of going through the same thing you've done with these other
09:13free agents where you had a number and you never wanted to go over it?
09:16I mean, in fairness, like, you never know what's going to happen with the Tommy John surgery.
09:20No, but it's still a blessing in disguise.
09:21No, absolutely.
09:22Just like the Paul George trade that didn't go through for the Warriors ultimately was
09:26a blessing in disguise.
09:27But I'm not going to crush, and you're not saying this, by the way, real quick.
09:30I know you're not saying this, but I'm not going to crush the Arizona Diamondbacks for
09:32that deal right now because he was the best pitcher out there.
09:34It's not about them.
09:35It's about the Giants for me.
09:36And they dodged a huge bullet.
09:38I know.
09:38Absolutely.
09:38They got lucky.
09:39I'm just taking it from all the anger.
09:41Like, had this happened to the Giants, I also wouldn't be crushing the Giants.
09:45Like, had they signed Corbin Burns and this happened, that sucks.
09:47He was the best guy available.
09:48There you go.
09:49And he hasn't shown any wear and tear and has been an absolute hog for years on end.
09:53Absolutely.
09:54By the way, Giants, I'm just looking overall with the team standings, the wild card and
09:58all of it, and they always have those advanced metrics and all those different stats.
10:01Giants against teams over .500 this year.
10:05So teams with winning records.
10:07The Giants have a winning record against teams over .500.
10:10They're 21-20.
10:11Not a lot of teams can say that.
10:13Wow.
10:13The Padres can't say that.
10:14They're 16-22 against teams over .500.
10:17They've played the Dodgers.
10:20Was this their second?
10:22Second go around, I think.
10:23I think so.
10:24Yeah.
10:24So, you know, continue.
10:25Keep going.
10:25But I'm just saying.
10:26Yeah.
10:26So the Padres are 16-20.
10:2816-22.
10:29Oh, 22.
10:30Yeah.
10:30Wow.
10:31Phillies.
10:32Yeah.
10:3315-18 against teams over .500.
10:35Wow.
10:36Yeah.
10:37And then you got the Dodgers, who are also only one game over .500.
10:41They're 16-15 against teams over .500.
10:42So the Giants have actually had a really difficult schedule.
10:45They have.
10:46In comparison to some of these other teams.
10:47Yep.
10:47The only team that's running away from that category is the Mets, who are the best team
10:51in the NL right now.
10:52They're 20-12 against teams over .500.
10:5420-12.
10:55Wow.
10:55Yeah.
10:55They're really good.
10:56Wow.
10:57Spoiler alert.
10:58The Mets are really good.
11:00Not the Mets.
11:00With all of that Juan Soto drama, it is really wild.
11:04Right.
11:04Seeing, you know, the Polar Bear running the bases and having a pretty nice start to
11:09the season, essentially, for them as a team and a franchise, I was like, God, I wanted
11:13Polar Bear.
11:13He was just sitting there.
11:14He would have been perfect.
11:15He's batting .300, by the way, 17 jacks, 62 RBIs.
11:18He's just sitting there.
11:19What did he get?
11:20Two for .58?
11:21Nothing.
11:22I know.
11:23Absolutely nothing.
11:24God.
11:25Jam.
11:26Mountain View.
11:27You know what all it says right here before I go to Jam?
11:30It says in the box, Shasky is the motivator.
11:34Wow.
11:34What?
11:35I can't wait for this call.
11:36Jam, good morning.
11:39Yes, good morning.
11:41Yeah, I've been waiting to say this for quite a while, and ever since Shasky turned over
11:46those tables last week, I don't think you were in the studio that day, Bimoni, but let
11:53me tell you, man, ever since he went on that rant, they haven't lost, and so you're the
11:59motivator now above Guru as far as the Giants go, and even the Warriors.
12:05I mean, let's go and keep turning those tables if that's what it takes, man, and go down to
12:12Dodger Stadium and do it to them, too.
12:15Hell yeah.
12:15Hey, Jan.
12:17Hey, Jan, are you still on the line?
12:20I sure am.
12:21What do you do for a living, Jan?
12:22May I ask?
12:25Right now, I'm retired.
12:27What did you used to do?
12:28I worked 41 and a half years in the government.
12:32Oh, wow.
12:33Wow.
12:33Thank you for your service to the government.
12:35I appreciate that.
12:36Hey, Jan, I associate your calls with the Warriors.
12:38I have the Giants, like, well, okay, she's out.
12:40Okay.
12:40Let's go.
12:40Let's go.
12:40Let's go.
