00:00Shasky, 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
00:05You want to hear something that I'm sure is going to just make you even angrier,
00:09and I hate to be the source of your anger,
00:12but the Giants in their last 15 games,
00:14when they have not scored more than four runs in a single game
00:17and they scored only 30 runs in those 15 games,
00:20they're hitting 133 with runners in scoring position.
00:26133!
00:28The fact that they haven't gone like 5-10 in that 15 games, Rich,
00:32is an absolute miracle.
00:34I just can't get over how this team continues to have the same issues
00:39year after year after year.
00:41You know, I'm looking at it at the break, and I'm saying to myself,
00:4421st in stolen bases, 24th in team OPS, 24th in team slugging,
00:5025th in batting average.
00:52You know, they're somewhere middle of the pack in terms of runs scored,
00:56which I don't know how.
00:57I don't know how.
00:58And they've actually scored more runs than the Padres this year, believe it or not.
01:01And you know what I put that on?
01:02Bob Melvin and some of the situational small ball that they've done.
01:05I'm dead serious.
01:05I think he deserves a lot of credit.
01:06They did have a couple of games where they exploded for like 8, 9, or 10 runs.
01:09Sure, sure.
01:10But you're going to have that throughout the course of the season.
01:12You know, I think one of the misnomers about the 2010 team was that they weren't a great
01:17slugging team when the reality was they hit 162 home runs.
01:21Now, it was not Bonds and Aurelia where you had one guy like 37, the other guy had 73.
01:26Like, that's not what I'm saying.
01:28But like, I'm looking at the 2010 team, all right?
01:30They had Aubrey Huff and Juan Uribe go for basically 25 and 85 each.
01:36You would die right now if I told you.
01:3925 and 85?
01:40Yeah, each.
01:41It was 26 and 86 and 24 and 85.
01:43Oh, I see.
01:45For each of those guys, 25 home runs, 86 RBIs.
01:48If I told you Willie and Chapman ended up with that, you would be like, wow, it's a great
01:54year.
01:54Oh, yeah.
01:55Considering how it started, you'd take that in a heartbeat.
01:57I don't think they're going to get there.
01:58Now, I don't know.
01:59Maybe Ramos gets to about those numbers.
02:03You'd have to drive in a lot of RBIs.
02:05These guys would have to get on base in front of him.
02:07It's difficult.
02:08Wilmer is on pace, but you have to assume that he's going to slow down here, you know?
02:13They got 18 from Buster Posey.
02:15He came up May 29th, which I referenced earlier, okay?
02:19They got 18 from Pat Burrell, who they acquired mid-season, who was DFA'd, all right?
02:24They got, I'm talking home runs, they got 16 home runs from their center fielder, Andres
02:27Torres, came out of nowhere, all right?
02:2913 from Pablo, complete loss year that year.
02:32And 11 from Aaron Rowan, who also played center field for them that year.
02:36Like, sneakily, they got contributions up and down that lineup, okay?
02:40It's a 2021 team.
02:42Exactly.
02:43Yeah.
02:43I'm looking at this team, and I'm like, dude, I don't even need that kind of, just one guy
02:48could change this entire team.
02:51And if I said, instead of 24th and 25th and OPS and slugging and 25th and bad average,
02:57what if I got up to, like, the teens?
02:59Be like 18th, 19th in the league.
03:01That's the difference in, like, five or six wins for this team right now, through two months.
03:05That's the difference from being a wild card team that's on the road and barely getting
03:10in and fighting until the end of the day, to maybe clinching a spot with three or four
03:14days to go and being able to set your rotation going into the playoffs.
03:17So, like, I think getting a hitter is incumbent on this team if they want to do anything important
03:24in the playoffs.
03:25I mean, it also might just be the difference in making the postseason at all and not.
03:28Absolutely.
03:29Absolutely.
03:30And obviously, winning the division would be amazing and having home field to begin.
03:36The division is vulnerable.
03:37I'm not giving it up yet.
03:38No doubt it is.
03:39I mean, you look at all of the problems throughout the division.
03:42The Dodgers have no pitchers healthy other than Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
03:45He's having a monster run.
03:46And he's been amazing.
03:48The Yankees roughed him up a little bit on Sunday.
03:49But he's been amazing.
03:51No doubt.
03:51They have no healthy pitchers.
03:53Every time that Yamamoto pitches, they need him to go, like, seven because every other starter
03:58that they have, they pray that they go, like, four or five.
04:01Their bullpen is going to be so overtaxed.
04:04They have to get healthy.
04:05They have, as you mentioned, like, however many millions of dollars on the IL right now.
04:09I had a list of every guy that was on the IL, and I can't find it.
04:13I had a screenshot of it.
04:14Basically, every pitcher you could think of.
04:16Other than Yoshi.
04:16It's crazy.
04:17Yeah.
04:18Like, everyone.
04:18And literally $80 million on the IL.
04:21Padres are somewhat similar.
04:22They did not have as much pitching depth as the Dodgers did to begin the year.
04:25Though that guy looked like Cy Young yesterday.
04:27Kolek.
04:28Steven Kolek.
04:29He looked incredible, didn't he?
04:30He was great.
04:30He was great.
04:31I mean, that's Michael King went on the IL for the Padres ever since he's been out there.
04:36I mean, they're pitching Ryan Berger today.
04:39No, I mean, I'm a big baseball fan.
04:41I don't know who Ryan Berger is, okay?
04:43They got Nick Pavetta and Dylan Cease.
04:45We know who those guys are the next couple of days.
04:47But Ryan Berger today, okay.
04:49Padres don't have a lot of pitching depth either.
04:51The Diamondbacks, they're going through it big time.
04:53Worse than the Giants are right now.
04:55There's a lot in the Padres, or the Rockies are the Rockies.
04:58They just won their 10th game yesterday.
05:00Congratulations, Rockies.
05:01Welcome to the Double Digit Win Club.
05:02Yeah.
05:03Took them 60 games to get 10 wins.
05:07The point is, though, Shasky, there are issues everywhere.
05:10And as you look at, like, how do these individual teams solve their issues?
05:15Rockies can't solve their issues.
05:18Diamondbacks, they might be able to.
05:19But one of their big issues also is their pitching staff.
05:22If Corbin Burns, he might have just popped his UCL.
05:26He might need Tommy John.
05:27We were talking about that yesterday.
05:28We don't know that for sure, but he left,
05:30and you could see him walking off the mound and mouth like,
05:32my elbow is gone.
05:34We'll see.
05:35We'll see exactly how that goes there.
05:37The Padres, again, they need their pitching staff healthy.
05:40Who knows how long that's going to take.
05:41And the Dodgers is the same thing.
05:42When you, like, try to figure out how these teams in the NL West
05:47fix their issues, the Giants might be, like,
05:51the most straightforward fix.
05:53It's just Chapman Adamas, hit.
05:55Outside of the Dodgers in their IL situation,
05:58every other team would die to have our pitching staff.
06:00Oh, no doubt.
06:01They would die to have it.
06:02And I'm looking at some of the hitting metrics, right?
06:04And you have the Dodgers.
06:06In almost every category, they're at the top of the charts,
06:08whether it's hits, RBIs, team batting average,
06:11you name it, OPS, slugging.
06:13Not far behind them in all these categories are the Diamondbacks, okay?
06:16The Padres are more where we're at in terms of the teens to the low 20s.
06:21In a lot of these things.
06:22But our pitching is so much better than theirs.
06:24That's why it is, like, we are one player.
06:27One impact bat away from, like, leapfrogging the Padres
06:31and being a legitimate threat.
06:32Quietly, the Cubs' bats are better than you think.
06:35Oh, the Cubs have been amazing.
06:36Yeah, but they're not.
06:37Kyle Tucker, the acquisition of the offseason.
06:40You mentioned bats that you've swung and missed on
06:42or you didn't even try to acquire.
06:44Kyle Tucker in the past offseason.
06:45Exactly.
06:46And the Castros were eager to unload him, which makes no sense.
06:51He's one of the best hitters in the league.
06:52They lost Bregman.
06:53They've lost a lot of guys in free.
06:54They wanted a third baseman back for the future.
06:57The Cubs had a highly touted guy that was in the AA or whatever
07:01that they think is going to be ready.
07:02You'll see him at some point.
07:03Young man was very highly touted.
07:04And that's what they gave up.
07:05They gave up a top prospect.
07:07And I guess this goes back to the Giants.
07:08To get, you've got to be willing to give.
07:11And at this point, I don't care what it takes.
07:13I'm willing.
07:14If it means Harrison, unfortunately, I hate to say it.
07:19Okay, then we've got to do it.
07:20Because right now, where are they operating from a point of depth?
07:25It's from pitching, correct?
07:26Yes.
07:26So to acquire hitting, which is the area of weakness,
07:29you're going to have to sacrifice some of your depth.
07:31And so whether that's Carson Wisenhund.
07:33There's so many teams out there that want pitching.
07:35Yes.
07:36So whether it's Carson Wisenhund in AAA,
07:37whether it's, you know, in the right deal for Birdsong,
07:41I would consider him, you know?
07:42Like, look, I kind of threw it out to you guys.
07:45Like, I'd be willing to move Logan Webb if it was the right deal.
07:48But, like, that's a little aggressive.
07:49And most people aren't going to agree with me on that
07:51because he's a front-line player.
07:51Everyone has a price, but yeah.
07:53The reality is that they're going to have to surrender
07:56one of these arms to get something of significance
07:59to help them now.
08:00And they owe it to the veteran team that they've built.
08:03Like, the team to win is the team to win right now.
08:05Not when Chapman's 35.
08:07Not when Adamas is 35.
08:08Not when Logan Webb's out of his prime.
08:11It's right now.
08:11Robbie Ray's having a monster year right now.
08:14Is he not?
08:15Oh, absolutely.
08:16He's been amazing.
08:17Camille Duvall is having a monster year right now.
08:20Right now is the time to strike.
08:22You said they owe it to the team.
08:24They don't, I mean, they owe it to the team.
08:26They also just owe it to the organization
08:28to try to win baseball games.
08:30You don't ever, you don't stumble across
08:32this kind of pitching staff and bullpen.
08:34Like, you know how rare this is?
08:36It might feel like somewhat normal to Giants fans
08:39because that has always been the recipe
08:41for winning baseball games.
08:43But you mentioned it.
08:44Like, almost every other team in baseball
08:46would kill, would trade their pitching situation.
08:50Starters and bullpen for the Giants have.
08:52Nearly every single, maybe the Mets
08:55are one of the few that wouldn't.
08:56The Mets have been amazing pitching-wise.
08:58Their bullpen has been great.
08:59They've been one of the great stories.
09:00And they're just hoping for Juan Soto
09:03to finally get going.
09:04And it seems like he has been a little bit
09:05the last couple of days.
09:06I hate that guy.
09:06We will see.
09:07I hate that guy so much.
09:09God, imagine having him as a Giant.
09:11Imagine having Pete Alonso,
09:12who sat out there in free agency,
09:14just waiting.
09:15For so long.
09:17Just waiting.
09:18I'm like, guys.
09:18And they're like, well, we got Eldridge.
09:20No one is saying that you can't use both players.
09:23You have the DH spot.
09:24Like, gah!
09:26I just, the Giants have been frustrating.
09:28You're right.
09:28They owe it to the individual players.
09:30They owe it to Logan Webb.
09:31They owe it to themself.
09:33You have an opportunity.
09:34I know.
09:35Like, you're right.
09:37This has been incredibly frustrating,
09:38and it makes you want to rip your hair out,
09:40and that random Monday night game
09:42feels like it hits you the hardest sometimes.
09:44The reason why it's hitting you and I so hard,
09:47and the text line is blowing up right now,
09:49the 262, the 510, the 925, the 415,
09:53we appreciate all you guys chiming in,
09:55888-957-9570.
09:58The reason it's hitting all of us so hard, Shasky,
10:00is because you can see this team is not far away.
10:05Like, not just from making the playoffs,
10:07but from making a postseason run.
10:09You need a bat.
10:10You need one big bat.
10:12You need two quality bats,
10:14and legitimately, like,
10:16I would believe that the Giants have enough
10:18to win the National League.
10:20Look, that's how good the pitching is.
10:21You're not far away.
10:23The Arizona Diamondbacks went on a two-month run
10:25and found themselves in the World Series, okay?
10:28And that was just two years ago.
10:29So I know we want to assume that
10:31it's the Yankees and the Dodgers
10:32and the Phillies and everyone else.
10:34No, no.
10:35It's baseball.
10:36Pitching will always rule the day,
10:37and if you have pitching combined with defense
10:39and situational hitting,
10:41that is the formula that wins in October
10:42every single year.
10:44You go into a series,
10:45and you've got Logan Webb
10:46and Robbie Ray
10:47and Hayden Birdsong
10:48and Justin Verlander,
10:50who you know can give you,
10:52if you get Justin Verlander
10:54to the postseason,
10:55you know he'll shove for you once or twice.
10:57I agree.
10:57And then you're handing the ball
10:59to Randy Rodriguez
11:00in, let's say,
11:01the sixth or seventh inning
11:02in a high-leverage spot.
11:03You've got Eric Miller.
11:04You have...
11:05And Rodgers.
11:05...Kyler Rodgers.
11:06Ryan Walker,
11:07I know we lose our minds.
11:09He's still filthy, too, right?
11:10He doesn't have a great year,
11:11but he's still filthy.
11:13And Camilo Duvall's been lights out.
11:15Their bullpen is immaculate right now.
11:17It really is.
11:18I mean, people get angry
11:19because what's the kid's name?
11:20Blevins.
11:21Come on.
11:22Brevins comes in
11:23and gives up a couple runs.
11:27That's what his job is.
11:28He's the mop-up guy.
11:29That's what he does.
11:30Not everyone's going to be flawless
11:31coming out of there.
11:32But even a guy like Landon Roop
11:33has been fine.
11:35He's been fine for them this year.
11:363.54 ERA.
11:38Pitching tonight.
11:39Exactly.
11:40So this team just needs one guy,
11:42and I truly believe
11:43one guy will help
11:45the two $150 million players
11:48that you have
11:48in Matt Chapman
11:49and Willie Adamos,
11:50and it would give some support
11:52to Wilmer and Elliot Ramos
11:54who have been carrying this lineup
11:56for weeks on end now.
11:57Yeah.
11:58Yeah.
