00:00the thinker and i think there are different types of leaders like i hate using um you know the
00:05president as an analogy because people get triggered but when you hear people who discuss
00:09leadership in terms of how to run a government or a country or whatever there's wartime leadership
00:14there's non-wartime leadership there's peace there's more financial driven leadership there's
00:19um there's lots of different kinds of leadership in different industries and i think sports is a
00:25great example of if you just look across the league you know not everyone leads in the same way like in

00:41general different kind of leadership right there's different levels to that i think when i think about
00:47like my highest paid player one thing that always comes back no matter what the sport when you're
00:52facing tons and tons of adversity i expect you to step up yeah people are out the situation is
00:59most critical um the stakes are the highest we're we're at an inflection point in the season within
01:06the game whatever it might be and i expect you to rise to the occasion barry bonds was there front

01:41which was pretty incredible to witness and just watching rafael take swings was it was pretty
01:49thrilling i mean that guy can hit the ball that that second time up that drive to

01:59got to cut yourself oh it's so good at mayor i opened the show today with like a soliloquy if you
02:05will like uh these guys are going to play some music here underneath but like when the 49ers are good
02:10sundays are dead like the city's buzzing it's very unique right like but i grew up out near
02:15candlestick and so you know i remember the neighborhood used to shut down and it wasn't
02:19that way monday through saturday though right and when the warriors are good there's a fever pitch and
02:23people are going crazy i'm not trying to deny it but there's something about this stadium being in that
02:29location and what it represents to our community and baseball being in every day grind as they play the
02:36music i feel like the magic is coming back to this city it feels like the magic is coming back to that
02:42stadium to this team i'm seeing a connection and a bounce from people walking around the neighborhood
02:47of mission bay and in the tenderloin and in downtown and people coming off a cow train coming off of
02:53munis you know hopping on to bart there's something palpable about the energy that that stadium has and
03:00bringing endeavors it just felt like yesterday was a moment in time with a beautiful afternoon and the
03:06skyline being what it is i just as a san franciscan as a native of northern california and the greater
03:11bay area i feel like the tide is changing and there's just something magical about the connection
03:16of this community to the sport of baseball with that team in that stadium doing well all at one time
03:23it just feels like things are changing mayor preach shasky preach it is so true there was so many good
03:32vibes walking into that stadium last night 36 000 people on a tuesday night against the against
03:40cleveland i mean it felt good i know we came up a run short but the the whole stadium chanting jung-ho
03:47lee jung-ho lee like all all night there was just good vibes in that stadium and we know
03:53we have a team that can compete now uh and i just give all credit to buster and his team uh and and
04:01they're putting together a lineup that can now hit we got the pitching uh you know our defense is
04:08solid we just gotta get some of these injuries uh get some of these injured players back but
04:12jasky you're right we've we've been missing this vibe from this team for a little while
04:17and it's coming back and it's coming back fast i totally agree so let me ask you who who hit you up
04:22was it buster himself was it larry bear was it greg johnson who got mayor larry over to oracle park
04:30yesterday how did that go down it didn't it didn't take much convincing uh uh larry larry uh uh texted me
04:39uh i think on monday and and told me the game plan for the day and press conference i was going to try
04:45to make it over for the press conference but couldn't do that but then i started talking to sawyer who by the
04:50way i'm sitting in the car with him right now and guess where we're headed chesky uh
04:54camp oh yeah and camp west sunset out west sunset um so so he's been doing this for a week and then
05:03he's got you know two and a half hours of baseball practice at night oh yeah so he he and his friend
05:09came over also after practice last night and and we got to watch the game together it was it was a
05:16beautiful night for baseball the team's feeling it you know got to talk to some of the players before
05:21the game and they were all so fired up and by the way the one thing that i noticed about rafael
05:27devers besides you know buster calling him the dude which was pretty good the dude abides uh is that guy's
05:34got a great smile and like he lights up a room uh so he's gonna light up that stadium hopefully every
05:42night uh through the end of october uh mayor daniel lurie joining us here on the river islands
05:48guest night with joe spedoni joe shasky um mayor rafi devers is pretty big mary bonds is pretty big
05:54there's another big time athlete coming to the bay tomorrow take on the valkyries oh her name is
05:59caitlin clark this is mayor daniel lurie gonna rub elbows with one caitlin clark tomorrow
06:04honestly this is breaking news i was watching her getting a little skirmish on the morning uh shows
06:12this morning last night uh and i didn't know she was coming into town uh i've been i've been deep down
06:21in the budget and and doing other things but now that you bring it up i mean that's that's a rock star
06:29coming to town so and by the way we don't need help the valkyries don't need help selling out
06:34it's sold out every game yep so apparently we're gonna go i think six straight sellouts now i love
06:41it and as you know mayor we are the home of the golden state yeah right here on 95.7 the game
06:45let's go go hey you know mayor shamelessly i i i'm gonna throw this out there you and i we're gonna
06:51have to get a coffee soon all right we're gonna have to go get lunch all right i we got to sit down
06:54there's a bunch of projects the giants themselves are going to be like backing right now it's
06:59kind of words getting out um about revitalizing crocker park and i am yeah one thousand percent
07:05behind it i want to be one of the champions of it i know you were a big champion i'm so excited and i
07:11got to talk with jack bear and some of the individuals matt lopez from the giants that are
07:15working on it i'm honored to even be asked to be a part of it but we got to get that thing going and
07:20i want to thank you on behalf of someone who lives out near lake merced um just the rv ordinance that you
07:25put in just to get real deal and in terms of like my neighborhood and and just safety in the community
07:30because i know you care about this we've talked about this off air like it means a lot and and my aunt
07:35lives over there my wife walks the baby around the around the lake all the time and and you're making
07:40great improvements i know we want to have things flip overnight but i'm really proud of the work
07:45that you've done and a lot of these little tiny things that you keep pushing through slowly and slowly
07:50we're getting better and i just want to say from one resident to another thank you like you're putting
07:54in the work i appreciate it we're putting in the work it's going to take time uh and and the rv
08:00ordinance listen we we got to get people uh off out of their shelters and into housing uh we're leading
08:07uh with uh services and we're going to lead with uh um vouchers and and and give people real options
08:15because some of these rvs are not safe they're not okay uh for the people living in them so we're
08:21going to be compassionate about it but we also got to look out for everybody in this city uh and so
08:26yes we're we're trying to do the little things one by one chaski you are right it's going to take us
08:32time it took us a long time to get to where we got but we're on the way back uh and as the giant
08:39showed us last night step by step by step and then some enlightened strikes like devers and and
08:46we're back so i gotta ask you the real question my mother-in-law says i really love the work that
08:52daniel lurie's putting in mayor lurie's awesome but every time i follow him wherever he's at he's
08:57always eating how does he say so skinny if he's constantly eating all day every day like what what
09:04is it is it you just walking around the city how do you stay so thin on the moon what's what's the
09:09secret what's the recipe um i think the stress helps with the weight loss uh i i don't eat all
09:19the things that you see i mean i try things and then and then i i hand it off to the team i drink
09:25you and i are going to sit down we're going to have coffee we're not going to have lunch
09:28i keep it pretty tame at lunchtime just for the record that's fine healthy salad my the big killer for
09:36me though is the bob's donuts uh i'm not gonna lie uh what's that one what do you get there
09:41there's home i think there's only one thing to get that's come on what is it is it old-fashioned

10:34on that big deal i know that's not always easy but uh it it means a lot to us fans it means a lot
10:40to the city they're they're doing their part bringing the city back and uh we're going to do
10:45our part at city hall let's go you know what we could have a calendar year potentially uh mayor and
10:50joe of let's say we got a world series here we're gonna have the super bowl here and the world

11:56of caitlin clark and um and i guess they got her from the aces yeah the the through the the
12:01expansion draft draft they take a ball player i just like the way she plays the game absolutely
12:06and how could you not like the way the golden state valkyries are playing and yeah as the mayor
12:10mentioned they didn't need caitlin clark to sell this game out no but it helps as more eyeballs i
12:15think we're going to be broadcasting live tomorrow there if i'm not mistaken uh will and dibs leading
