00:57:31sent the message today and i love the humbleness that they give us like oh yeah i'm just worried
00:57:36about number you know race one race at a time he knew what he wanted to do so i love it
00:57:42what is he looking for oh he doesn't have his card he's just trying to get back to the pits
00:57:49for the press conference i mean the fans are like oh he's back yeah he's back they come back
00:57:54i think the encore the concert yeah i don't know if the the the victory that
00:58:01was the most best part of the day or him rocking the no shoes right at the point sweaty socks

00:58:44get to the highlights
00:58:47this is what it looked like the scene for round five of the pro motocross championship
00:58:55the wick 338 in southwick massachusetts sandiest track of the year had perfect new english
00:59:02hitter in the morning a little bit of rain then the sunshine came out and the honda boys continued
00:59:08to own the starts hunter and jett lawrence jet to the lead yeah he definitely owned the starts
00:59:13the best jump i've seen jet have all year long and man he was um he was pretty much gone at that
00:59:18point but it was a sign of we've been watching you know george these first four races but jorge
00:59:23showed up this one and he came out here firing he was the second um he's the fastest in that second
00:59:29practice looked like a whole different rider today and um had some speed and it was eli tomac
00:59:34trying to keep pace with the number 70 because the number 78 monster to kawasaki was moving up front
00:59:39as he makes his way around aaron plastered his first moto and really had a good flow and it was nice to
00:59:44see that from um you know again to kawasaki yeah much better jorge prado today here's tomac
00:59:50plessinger lost steam this is now a fight for third and fourth prado by tomac by then tomac putting
00:59:56pressure on prado and prado gonna hit the deck yeah this is after a few laps and you know eli was
01:00:01trying jet was already gone at that point hunter lawrence was in front and then yeah you can see
01:00:05jorge loses that front end goes over that berm and just snuffs it but at that point he was still able
01:00:11to get up and and fight and that's gonna pay dividends as the day goes on credit to hunter
01:00:16lawrence who's all by himself in second for most of this race tomac wasn't able to get close neither
01:00:21was prado nor anyone else but he also wasn't able to get that close to his brother jet who wins the
01:00:26moto and by a comparatively large margin to what the number 18 usually does didn't manage the lead
01:00:33he just pulled a big one they go to moto two prado wants to start in front of jet he sends it in
01:00:39deep in the first turn yeah that right-handed first corner jet not knew that if he runs it in that deep
01:00:44most likely if i just square up and get underneath him i just want to be back out front and jorge was
01:00:49able to keep jet close for this first opening laps and you know at this point we got hunter lawrence in
01:00:54third place who rode really good that first moto just seemed like all these guys were riding good
01:00:57but jet was so far gone that maybe the second we would have a run and it was eli tomac he said on
01:01:03the podium that man that the middle part of race wasn't that good well i'm sure he's gonna look back
01:01:08at this and maybe be a little disappointed because you know things started happening really quick for
01:01:12eli's hunter lawrence makes that pass back up on him for third place and you know eli said that straight
01:01:17up man they were just better prado is gonna go down here or running second yeah there's a hard base
01:01:25on this racetrack as you can see there's a rut right there and that lap rider caught jorge out
01:01:29it goes down and and again he was in second place at this at this point and um you know things start
01:01:36look they're starting to look good for um the kawasaki and this is there in pleasure we started to see
01:01:41him like kind of fading a little bit as all these guys where rj was able to get around shout out to rj that
01:01:45fourth place that long that second moto but nobody was even holding a candle to this dude this guy
01:01:50was on a different level today yep tomac and prado they kept him in sight for a couple laps and then
01:01:55the lead was alarmingly large again and then he hopped and skipped and jumped his way around
01:02:001-1 for chet lawrence 2-2 for hunter there on the left and tomac goes 3-3 for third overall and yes
01:02:07tomac just said today lawrence's they were just really good and that's reflected in those results
01:02:13justin cooper the monster energy fast qualifier and he was fast and strong in the races but bad starts
01:02:18both times came back for sixth and fifth for fourth prado top five overall for the first time this year
01:02:25and much much much much better than we saw the first four rounds the weekend off maybe the switch
01:02:30to the sand it worked for him great to see a shot in the arm for him and his squad hampshire sixth
01:02:37plessinger webb barsha and malcolm stewart round out the top 10 from the wick
01:02:44and point standings it's a bigger lead than ever for lawrence but i don't even know if that's really
01:02:49the story it to me was a bigger lead on the track and that's really what's more important yeah i mean
01:02:53absolutely i mean he's still within two two bad motors he lies back into his lead i mean these guys are
01:03:00still within a race the top three that is but you know mentally it's a bigger gap than that and and
01:03:06you start to wonder you just it's your eli you don't want to get in that that rhythm where you're
01:03:11like man i i don't know if i could beat this guy you know we've seen other guys right like that so um eli
01:03:17he's got next week so we'll find out yeah that's redbud and might get chase sexton back there as well
01:03:22now combine the points from supercross and motocross together cooper webb is still the number one seed
01:03:28if the playoffs were to begin now but justin cooper each week chipping away look he's scored 51 more
01:03:34points than webb in motocross so far 181 to 130. got the gap to about 30 points now still six rounds
01:03:41and 12 motos to go plessinger's third and jet is starting to close on your brother malcolm stewart
01:03:47and getting close to chase sexton i think that might be why sexton needs to get back into this
01:03:52because playoff seating could make all the difference come september so that's the story
01:03:58from southwick we welcome you back into the booth here jason and james uh yeah so we know jet lawrence
01:04:04has a history road and sand a long time in europe for a couple years his riding style works for that
01:04:09but you don't think it's just a southwick thing uh and a sand thing it was more he knew other guys would
01:04:14be good here and he wanted to give his best foot forward well yeah i just think i just go back to all
01:04:20the moments that i've seen throughout his career jet lawrence especially in his 450 class i mean
01:04:25we go to a1 there was a lot of type uh hype about eli and chase and all these guys and and jet comes
01:04:31out and he does his thing he doesn't end up winning chase wins it but it just to me it seems like
01:04:35daytona you go to that race he shows up has the best performance maybe a supercross year you know and
01:04:41i think for me i'm just watching this guy always seem to elevate his game always elevating and um
01:04:48i think today was another version of that you know we could talk about this guy he's won
01:04:5320 out of 21 races so how much are we surprised that he's winning you know but to to me when the
01:04:59people say is he playing with him or is that gap today if if he won all those other races like this i would
01:05:06say 100 this was a dominant victory today and i think the reason was because how he executed the first
01:05:13opening laps he knows like all right these guys if they're in front of me maybe they feel like they
01:05:17have a chance well i'm just in that and we saw him get out early in the lead today and pull a gap and
01:05:22then he manages and to me that's just not what he normally does so it was really impressive and i might
01:05:28get mixed up because this guy's always winning whether it was daytona this year anaheim won but
01:05:32i'll let him say this anytime anybody's ever came at this kid where it was somebody else's favorite
01:05:38tracker they thought he had a chance he's ended it and to me another race track where eli was going
01:05:43in not only for the championship but for mentally i mean he really put his foot on their neck today
01:05:48i'm just say that for reals and it was it was impressive to watch yeah no doubt there was no
01:05:53doubt over who the best guy in the sand was and a lot of it as always comes down to these great
01:05:57starts that jet and hunter continue to pull more on that let's send it to jason thomas thank you jason and
01:06:03yes that's it i'm standing on the starting gate and you think about the the role the starts play
01:06:07today well this gate saw every hole shut all day two from jet and two from hayden on this
01:06:12gate just to the outside of the doghouse and there was nothing special about it it's not a magic gate
01:06:17even the location there's four or five other gates that are just as good as this but they have their
01:06:22technique and their confidence is so high right now now you could also say that their bikes are
01:06:28performing at the highest level sure but we've also seen hayden deegan struggle with the starts but i
01:06:33think much to james's point that we're talked about where starts are so much about confidence
01:06:38we saw a different jorge prado today and it's really difficult for me to think that the starts
01:06:43that he got he was in the top three both times don't have something to do with the way he was
01:06:48riding all day he was super fast and qualifying he showed real speed in both motos and sure he crashed
01:06:54and the result wasn't exactly he wanted but we saw the real jorge prado show up today so you think
01:07:00about joe shimota the starts held him back in moto when he crashed all that but there is such a
01:07:05correlation between these guys believing that they can win believing they're supposed to be on the
01:07:09podium and what happens right here on the starting gate and how they they square up in that first corner
01:07:20250 class from southwick round five of pro motocross get a look at the paddock there such a unique
01:07:27place to hold the motocross racers elementary school and ball fields and then suddenly this beautiful
01:07:33place to go racing hayden deegan first haul shot of the year and that's not good news for anyone not
01:07:39they paid to deegan no i mean i saw kids playing in the sandbox right at the elementary school and hayden
01:07:44playing in the sandbox out here but yeah it was that first corner we know coming into this racetrack
01:07:49uphill with the sand and being right-handed always catching some of these guys out but yeah hayden deegan
01:07:54just like jett lawrence the man he had the stars figured out today and it was michael moseman shout
01:07:58out to him had a great rod all day long ends up having some bike problems on this first moto caused
01:08:04him to go from second to fourth but tom deon looked like a different rider all day um since practice i
01:08:10mean he looked really aggressive and that was him going down in the first lap being in third place
01:08:15behind michael so you wonder if he was able to stay out would things are to change the way hayden's been
01:08:20run i would almost say no but nonetheless tom looked like a different router that moto and he showed
01:08:26showed it for sure and then kitchens going after moseman tried tried tried again moseman so tough
01:08:32wouldn't relent until late in the race when his bike started to overheat more on that in a moment here
01:08:36is vial he was outside the top 10 after that early crash and yeah this is definitely the best riding
01:08:42all year for the frenchman yeah i mean he just could tell the bike was moving around but in a good
01:08:46spot this is that where you feel like in and to me it just looked like he was more free uh riding more
01:08:52like him but i mean talk about free free yeah you got it they were in danger zone that first moto and
01:09:00they might be in there for the rest of the year for sure yeah pressure free was deegan with that big
01:09:04gap so moseman have some bike problems late and that moves kitchen from third to second and somehow vial
01:09:11despite the early crash is going to end up third so the hope is if they can start with deegan and moto
01:09:16two maybe they can run with him deegan a wild start leading to another hole shot bale's right there
01:09:22but he gets shuffled back jalique spoiled a second yeah that little start off hey that's some attitude
01:09:28check right there you know you whip it out and and again it's hard racing against the guy when i mean
01:09:33every every moment you know it just seems like he's attacking the racetrack in it i'm sure it's uh
01:09:39you know could be detrimental for all these guys but joe shimoto looked like a guy who's riding really
01:09:44good that first moto got went down twice it seemed like in the first corner and then getting back up
01:09:49um he rode good but it was levi kitchen riding really good after that second place you thought
01:09:53maybe all right maybe it's levi time getting up in here he was able to close in on hayden a little
01:09:58bit then he got the bubblies and stuff and had to recover then it was joe shimoto making his way
01:10:02around jalique's phone who rode really good before going down that second moto and joe was a man on the
01:10:08mission he was the only one once he got in that third place that gap about eight to ten seconds the whole
01:10:13race he stayed at the same they almost had 45 seconds on third place and in tom be out so those
01:10:18two were on a different level but hayden deegan was still on a different one that's joe shimoto makes
01:10:23his way around levi kitchen for second place this is where we were starting to wonder what was going
01:10:28on with levi was he getting overheated was something going on the bike his mechanic was even like yo
01:10:32what's up bike seems good but he was able to recover and and not let um things ravel out of too much
01:10:39for him tom vial gets by him for that third place position but levi was able to hang on for that
01:10:43fourth place and yeah it was a good day by the much injury pro second kawasaki guy yeah so this is
01:10:49kitchen said his stomach started to hurt halfway through the moto then he lost positions of shimota
01:10:53lost positions to vial but then he would come back strong checkered flag is out right here for deegan
01:11:00makes it easy big gaps fastest at both qualifying sessions and a little flare there over the finish line
01:11:07a little justin bogle lays leg swag right there bogle is here today maybe he's just trying to make him
01:11:12proud and the owl would recover for the podium and because kitchen was able to recover he holds on to
01:11:19fourth mozman got close kitchen rode strong to the end after the mid-race lull and is able to hold on
01:11:25to third place on the podium mozman fourth shimota fifth first turn crash in the first moto proved costly
01:11:31harrop marchbanks hamaker masterpool and smith round out the top ten
01:11:39that's how it impacts the points deegan is now up a full race on the entire field 50 points available
01:11:45on any given weekend and he has a 58 point lead over shimota get that battle for third the owl kitchen
01:11:52marchbanks all very close marchbanks not quite as good today as some of the previous rounds so he
01:11:57drifts back to fifth but he can get those back in a hurry at redbud hymas is out with an acl injury
01:12:05playoff schedule it'll be some all september september 6th in charlotte at charlotte motor
01:12:11speedway z-max dragway then the dome in america center in st louis september 13th and the world
01:12:16championship finale september 20th the strip at las vegas motor speedway and we can give you the points
01:12:22leading to that now deegan's got a supercross title this year and he's leaving the motocross
01:12:27standings so no surprise when you combine those together he is the leader in smx points shimota
01:12:33is second best just ahead of vl marchbanks and bomer top five so playoff seating it absolutely
01:12:41matters last year hunter lawrence tied for the championship in the 450 division they came down
01:12:47to a tiebreaker if hunter had one more seating point he would have won the whole thing so that's
01:12:52how much it matters for the playoffs begin in september that's the story from southwick
01:12:59and this track looks a lot different than it did at eight in the morning yeah no and i was actually
01:13:05thinking about what jt was saying um on the gate that nothing looks special but when you look at the
01:13:09gate right now i just noticed that that shadows were on the the side of those two gates that the
01:13:14hole shot's coming kept coming from and it looks like if the shadow's over that means it has better
01:13:19traction and then so maybe that was a part of those guys getting there because those two gates
01:13:23it seemed like anybody was lined up there they were gone that instant jump was gone so i don't know
01:13:28maybe that was a uh a factor in this because it was definitely as you could see those two inside
01:13:33gates behind the shadow from the box yes so could it keep it a little more keep it more moist and wow
01:13:40obviously if you got more moist those guys are jumping out of the gate and we saw hayden deegan
01:13:45do you know um even the uh uh jorge prada even he got a good jump at second moto and they were lined up
01:13:52on that gate so i don't know maybe guys got to start studying the shadows now if you want to pick
01:13:57gates not just the ruts some other great stories from the track best day of the year so far for the
01:14:02danish rider michael harrop who is with will thank you jason he is indeed we're over here at the triumph
01:14:08frig great day for you best day of the season as far as your box scores go there five six four six talk me
01:14:15through michael the progress that you guys are making and you personally on the bike as you kind
01:14:19of just get used to well everything right from the bike to the circuit um yeah we're doing great
01:14:25steps every weekend uh like you say the results are getting better and better we made some
01:14:29improvements on the bike this week which helped us in the starts and again yeah good start in the
01:14:35first moto battling up front lacked a little bit of pace in in terms of vl but everybody else
01:14:42seemed to be on pace and yeah i enjoyed myself a lot and then for a second moto there was a little
01:14:46bit of bar banging up the start straight and i lost a lot of position i was a little bit slow getting
01:14:51going in in the first half of the race and then yeah i just started clicking in that second half and
01:14:57i picked people off one by one and i believe i finished sixth so uh that was a good comeback from
01:15:01outside the top ten i would say and you seem to have a very sort of a structured way of going about
01:15:06this season here you know there's sort of a lot to learn because you show up at these tracks here
01:15:11with absolutely no riding experience on them um so what's next as you sort of go through and check
01:15:15those boxes michael what's kind of next for you as you move into redbud next weekend well the whole
01:15:20reason why i can and progress the way i do is thanks to triumph i mean they allow me to do what i want
01:15:25and and sort of take my time because they know this is just building and and getting the feedback and
01:15:30and trying to show how good the bike is um so from here on out i mean it's going to be more the same
01:15:37i'm going to still work on my intensity i see there's a potential to gain some good positions in
01:15:42the first half of the moto and if i can stay strong like i did in the second second moto i mean there's
01:15:48potential for podiums as well so that's that's what we're working towards absolutely well the way you're
01:15:53riding i'm sure that's uh coming pretty soon so thanks ever so much for talking congratulations on a
01:15:57solid day thank you very much i appreciate it and good to have triumph in the mix you see the
01:16:03manufacturer's points they don't race 450s yet they'll be doing that next year harrop will go
01:16:07back to europe to race a 450 mxgp for them next season when the bike is ready as for the top of
01:16:13chart in both classes you see yamaha and honda splitting it today with the wins in each class
01:16:18yamaha gets the edge today in the manufacturer's points but it's even closer when you look at the
01:16:25season long standings for the manufacturers this is best result in each moto of both classes
01:16:31by each brand nearly tied the top yeah no i mean it's i mean they're winning everything at this point
01:16:38you got eli tomac cooper webb jet lawrence both lawrences josh motor road great today so i mean
01:16:46yeah it's not surprising that they're that close could come down to the wire between honda and yamaha
01:16:51for the manufacturer's cup in pro motocross ktm third and ktm might get a boost in points next
01:16:57week because the rumor is we certainly hope it's true that chase sexton who's the defending 450 pro
01:17:03motocross champion could be back on the red bull ktm as soon as next weekend at red boat crashed out
01:17:09about three laps into the season at the season opener that could be interesting but the problem is
01:17:14we've seen james the progress that jet lawrence has made in a month's time with racing oh the press

01:17:32sexton came back and you know hopefully chase is he got his goals and no matter what he just focuses
01:17:39on those whether that goal is out there to go win or whatnot uh just needs to stay on that because
01:17:44there's that time he's missed he's gonna be at a deficit because of that and and some of the speed
01:17:50or lacking if there is any um could simply just because you haven't been there racing and so
01:17:55hopefully if he's coming back the whole year he just stays focused and continue doing that and not
01:18:00get too um concerned on on the results but knowing chase i'm sure he's ready to come out here and compete
01:18:06with these guys especially sitting there watching them or i'm excited to watch i'm excited to go to red

01:18:41some good racing the dirt juice is really good the fans are amazing there so completely different
01:18:46racetrack than what we had here today it almost feel like a little break for these guys but nonetheless
01:18:52repos is a special race and just like daytona and supercross there's certain tracks and certain
01:18:56races you want to win red buds is one of those for sure here is when and where you can watch

01:19:38if sexton comes back but jett lawrence just keeps getting better and better returning for the acl
01:19:43injury at the beginning of the year and hayden deegan's only 19 years old so he keeps improving
01:19:48even though these other 250 riders are digging deep they're not able to keep digging in sight
01:19:53and then in that 450 class well the starts and the finishes all jet lawrence as of late good to
01:19:59see jorge prado showing some signs eli tomac is tough but it's jet lawrence and hayden vegan doing
