02:54citizenship the supreme court ruling may also allow the president to charge ahead on other parts of his
03:00agenda abc's senior washington reporter devin dwyer leads us off at the supreme court tonight the supreme
03:07court's conservative majority dramatically limiting the ability of federal judges to check presidential
03:13power the six to three decision allows president trump to move forward with plans to end birthright
03:19citizenship which has been law of the land for more than a hundred years this morning the supreme court
03:24has delivered a monumental victory for the constitution the separation of powers and the rule of law
03:31federal judges in three states had ruled trump's order on birthright citizenship blatantly violates the
03:37constitution and supreme court precedent issuing nationwide injunctions blocking the order from taking effect
03:43but today justice amy coney barrett writing for the majority said those sweeping injunctions went too
03:49far and that federal courts do not exercise general oversight of the executive branch they resolve cases and
03:56controversies i want to thank justice barrett who wrote the opinion brilliantly as well as chief justice
04:02roberts and justices alito gorsuch kavanaugh and thomas great people in abiding dissent justice sonia
04:10sotomayor said the liberal justices would not join so grave an attack on our system of law saying trump's bid
04:17to end birthright citizenship makes a solemn mockery of our constitution the court's decision took no position
04:24on whether trump's executive order is constitutional though the ruling does let him put it into effect in 30 days
04:30but at the white house today no explanation of how that would work attorney general pam bondy deflecting
04:37when pressed on how exactly citizenship for newborns across america would be determined who
04:42would be tasked with actually vetting citizenship and how like would this be a situation where you have
04:47nurses and doctors checking for citizenship of parents or this is all pending litigation it's going
04:54to be decided in october by the supreme court and we'll discuss that after the litigation but there
05:00is currently no litigation before the supreme court in october involving birthright citizenship
05:06still opponents of trump's order are vowing to get the issue back before the justices
05:10as soon as possible with the impact of today's decision could be far-reaching dozens of federal
05:16judges have issued nationwide injunctions against some of president trump's controversial policies from
05:21layoffs of federal workers to federal funding freezes of foreign aid some of those injunctions may now
05:27need to be rolled back or lifted entirely wit and devin the supreme court also issuing several other
05:33major rulings today it sure did the supreme court upheld those popular obamacare no cost preventive
05:40health care services the justices also said that parents have a right to remove their children from
05:45classrooms when lgbtq books that violate their religious beliefs are used and the court wit upheld
05:52online age verification for adult websites in an effort to protect children wit all right devin

09:02beach on long island the 20 year old was waist deep in the water at the central mall beachfront after 4
09:07pm on wednesday when authorities say she sustained minor lacerations to her left foot and leg nope that's
09:14a shark this baby shark spotted at jones beach that same morning but not the one believed to have bitten
09:20the woman it's the first suspected shark bite in the new york city area since 2023 when a
09:25swimmer was seriously injured at rockaway beach sand tiger sharks can grow up to 10 feet long and 350
09:32pounds the sharks known to frequent the waters around long island in the summer but are not aggressive

09:46two weeks ago a shark nearly biting off nine year old leah lendo's hand as she snorkeled off florida's
