02:04From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight.
02:11Good evening.
02:11Thanks for joining us on this Saturday.
02:13I'm Wade Johnson.
02:14Several breaking stories as we come on tonight.
02:16The massive military parade in Washington, D.C. and protests across the country.
02:21But we begin tonight with the urgent manhunt in Minnesota happening right now.
02:26A suspect on the run after what authorities call a politically motivated assassination.
02:31Former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark both gunned down early this morning inside their home in Brooklyn Park.
02:39Just a few miles away, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot multiple times at their home, now recovering in a local hospital.
02:47This video showing their front door riddled with bullet holes.
02:51Hundreds of police and sheriff's deputies on the scene searching for clues and a possible motive.
02:56Investigators identifying the suspected gunman as 57-year-old Vance Luther Bolter.
03:01Several sources telling ABC News that the suspect had a list of possible targets, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
03:09Several planned protests canceled today as thousands were told to shelter in place.
03:15ABC's Faith Abube leads us off from the scene in Minnesota.
03:18Tonight, a manhunt in Minnesota for 57-year-old Vance Bolter, who authorities say assassinated a beloved Minnesota lawmaker and her husband
03:29and wounded another legislator and his spouse while posing as a police officer.
03:35Do not approach him. You should consider him armed and dangerous.
03:39Around 2 a.m., police in Champlin, northwest of Minneapolis, responding to reports of a shooting at the home of State Senator John Hoffman.
03:47Black SUV had red and blue flashlights. Suspects posing as police officers shot two victims.
03:54Officers finding Hoffman and his wife Yvette in their home wounded, rushing them to the hospital.
04:00Meanwhile, eight miles away in Brooklyn Park, a fast-thinking sergeant deciding to proactively check on the home of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman.
04:08When they arrived at Melissa's house, they noticed that there was a police vehicle in the driveway with the lights, emergency lights on,
04:15and what appeared to be a police officer at the door coming out of the house.
04:19When our officers confronted them, the individual immediately fired upon the officers who exchanged gunfire,
04:26and the suspect retreated back into the home.
04:28Inside, police finding the bodies of former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.
04:33They say the suspect was dressed as a police officer, complete with a badge, vest, and taser, and a realistic-looking latex mask, fleeing on foot.
04:43Thousands told to shelter-in-place officials warning residents their officers will only travel in pairs.
04:49If there's only one officer outside the door, do not answer the door and call 911.
04:54Authorities say they found a hit list inside the vehicle, with names of dozens of Democratic Minnesota lawmakers,
05:00including Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Senator Tina Smith.
05:05Sources tell ABC News that abortion providers were also on that list,
05:09and law enforcement is looking into whether the suspect may have been motivated by extreme views on abortion.
05:15Police say they also found these flyers in the vehicle for the No Kings Day protest taking place today.
05:21Organizers in Minnesota canceling them out of an abundance of caution.
05:25This was an act of targeted political violence.
05:28State Representative Melissa Hortman was a mother of two.
05:31News of her murder stunning lawmakers nationwide.
05:34Minnesota's Governor Tim Walz, heartbroken.
05:37Speaker Hortman was someone who served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, humor, and a sense of service.
05:44She was a formidable public servant, a fixture and a giant in Minnesota.
05:50She is irreplaceable, and we've been missed by so many.
05:53Minnesota's thoughts and prayers are with her family, her loved ones, her children, and her parents.
05:59And with that shelter-in-place order just lifted, even though that suspect's still on the run at this hour,
06:04as this urgent investigation continues here in Brooklyn Park.
06:08The FBI offering $50,000 for information leading to that suspect's arrest.
06:14Releasing these images just from a few hours ago of that suspect wearing a cowboy hat.
06:19They say he is armed and dangerous and do not approach him.
06:23Witt.
06:23And that neighborhood's still on edge.
06:25Faith Abube, thank you.
06:27We move now to other major news on this Saturday night.
06:29Massive crowds gathering from coast to coast for those so-called No King's Day protests,
06:35counter-programming to the military parade in Washington, D.C., marking the Army's 250th birthday.
06:41Protests planned in all 50 states and law enforcement on high alert.
06:46ABC's Matt Guttman is in Los Angeles tonight.
06:48Tonight, thousands of protests taking place nationwide against the Trump administration's policies
06:55and perceived overreach and to counter-program the president's military parade in Washington.
07:01From Atlanta to New York and Durham, North Carolina.
07:05From Frisco, Texas and Angola, Indiana in the center of the country to San Diego on the West Coast.
07:11No Kings!
07:12Overall, more than 2,000 separate demonstrations of different sizes in all 50 states today,
07:18according to the organizers of the so-called No Kings protests.
07:22No Kings!
07:23Voicing opposition to Trump's agenda.
07:26We're advocating for the rights of our immigrant families.
07:30I'm a proud American that am not very happy with things that are going on in our country.
07:35And today, the president seeming to blink on his immigration crackdown.
07:38Today, DHS officials confirming to ABC News,
07:41the president told ICE to pause most raids on farms, hotels, and restaurants.
07:46Hey, no fascist USA!
07:48Protesters marching right up to the president's doorstep.
07:51Demonstrators today near Mar-a-Lago at times standing face-to-face with a line of heavily armed officers.
07:57In Minnesota, many of the planned demonstrations were canceled due to that horrific shooting
08:02after authorities say they found flyers for the protests in a vehicle at the scene.
08:07And in Austin, the Texas state capitol evacuated after authorities there say
08:11they identified a credible threat toward state lawmakers planning to attend the protest.
08:18And here in Los Angeles, an estimated 20,000 gathering,
08:22and we were there as the throng arrived outside the federal building.
08:26Many hundreds of people flocking right here to the federal building,
08:29guarding the lobby, are active-duty U.S. Marines,
08:32and you can hear the crowd chant,
08:34shame on you.
08:37Tensions in the city still high amid a week of immigration protests
08:40that have led to clashes between police and demonstrators.
08:44And despite the obvious tension behind me,
08:47we've seen tens of thousands of protesters out here in the streets of Los Angeles,
08:51and it has been absolutely peaceful.
08:53Police have taken a very hands-off approach.
08:56Still, the LAPD says the curfew that's been in effect for parts of downtown L.A.
09:01will remain in effect tonight and into tomorrow.
09:04Matt Guttman tonight, thank you.
09:06Now to that elaborate military parade in Washington, D.C.,
09:10a celebration of the Army's 250th anniversary,
09:13falling on Flag Day and President Trump's 79th birthday.
09:17Here's ABC's senior White House correspondent, Selena Wang.
09:20Tonight, an unprecedented show of military might
09:23as President Trump's massive Army parade gets underway.
09:27Thousands of soldiers, tanks, and fighter jets
09:29rolling through the nation's capital.
09:31The official reason for the parade,
09:33marking the Army's 250th anniversary.
09:36But it also happens to be Flag Day
09:38and President Trump's 79th birthday.
09:41Thousands braving the stormy forecast
09:43to get a glimpse of the festivities.
09:44It's a show of force Trump has long wanted
09:48after he attended France's annual Bastille Day parade in 2017.
09:53Even though parades like this are rare in the U.S.
09:55and are fixtures in authoritarian regimes,
09:58the Army estimates it will cost taxpayers
10:00as much as $45 million.
10:03A new APNORC poll finds Americans divided.
10:07Six and 10 say the parade is not a good use of government funds.
10:11$45 million for a parade, for God's sake.
10:14Money should be put in defense medical research.
10:16Democrats slamming the price tag
10:19as his administration slashes programs
10:21for veterans' health care
10:22and jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
10:25Crowds of vets protesting the parade
10:27and the Trump administration.
10:28I feel like it's my responsibility to be out here
10:30to remind people and then just to try to uphold
10:33that rule of law and the Constitution.
10:35And overnight, dozens of U.S. veterans
10:37arrested outside of the Capitol
10:39as they demonstrated against the celebration,
10:41including this 87-year-old man with a walker,
10:45handcuffed and taken away by police.
10:48And with just hours before the parade started,
10:51President Trump posted on social media
10:53that Russia's Vladimir Putin called him
10:55to wish him a happy birthday,
10:57saying they also spoke about the war in Ukraine
10:59and tensions in the Middle East.
11:01According to Russian state media,
11:03Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to mediate
11:06between Israel and Iran.
11:08With Selena Wang, thank you.
11:11Now to the thousands gathering
11:12for that military parade.
11:14ABC's Stephanie Ramos joins us now
11:15from Washington along the parade route.
11:18And Stephanie, what are we going to see tonight?
11:22Well, to celebrate the Army's anniversary,
11:24more than 6,000 soldiers from across the country
11:27dressed in modern and historic uniforms
11:29from every major conflict involving the U.S. military
11:33will march in this parade right behind me
11:35on Constitution Avenue.
11:36The parade includes more than two dozen tanks
11:38in the streets of Washington,
11:4028 striker combat vehicles,
11:4228 Bradley fighting vehicles,
11:43an array of other vehicles,
11:44horses, mules, and aircraft.
11:47This is the largest display of military might
11:49since the end of the Gulf War in 1991.
11:52The parade, also looking to the future,
11:54those who have recently enlisted or are re-enlisting
11:57will stop, turn to the reviewing stand,
11:59and will be sworn in by the president himself.
12:02Wait.

12:09And ABC News Live will have special coverage
12:11celebrating the Army's 250th,
12:13streaming now across multiple platforms.
12:16Now to the fast-moving developments
12:17in the Middle East.

13:03Tehran retaliating with attacks throughout Israel.
13:06This Iranian drone intercepted over an Israeli kibbutz.
13:10But this area outside Tel Aviv hit hard.
13:13We saw the damage firsthand.
13:15You can see the buildings heavily damaged
13:16in the distance there.
13:18Those cars destroyed and debris everywhere.
13:21Now I am the collateral damage.
13:22I look horrified at what happens in Gaza.
13:25But now it's like in my back door.
13:26At least three Israelis have been killed
13:29and dozens injured.
13:30The unrest in the Middle East
13:31causing crude oil prices to rise.
13:34Friday prices jumping over 7%.

14:11from our New York station WABC.
14:13And Jeff, some dangerous conditions
14:15expected overnight.
14:16Yeah, Whit, you mentioned Colorado.
14:17That's why we have a newly issued
14:18severe thunderstorm watch right now
14:20northeastern Colorado, eastern parts of Wyoming,
14:22western parts of Nebraska.
14:23Could be two-inch hail,
14:24could be winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour
14:26in those areas.
14:27Flooding, a concern near the nation's capital
14:30for all those big festivities.
14:31Tonight could be one to three inches of rain there.
14:33Meanwhile, out west, it's the heat.
14:35Nine million people under extreme heat warnings
14:37from Southern California
14:38to southern parts of Arizona,
14:40where we're talking about
14:41not only triple-digit heat,

15:18means many bodies have yet to be formally identified.
15:21DNA testing is now underway,
15:22so remains can be returned to grieving families.
15:25Scores on the ground were killed and injured too,
15:27like Suresh's wife and son.
15:29This gentleman's wife ran a tea store for 40 years
15:32right near the medical college.

15:50Here's a picture of him.
15:52That's him there.
15:54A moment later, another family member shows me her phone.
15:57They're showing me some very distressing videos here,
16:00including what this lady says is that 15-year-old boy,
16:03his body on fire in the street.
16:05Sanjay was there when the plane came down.
16:07He rushed to action, jet fuel turning everything to fire and ash.
16:11He says he pulled 28 bodies from the wreckage.
16:15And this man with his bare hands
16:17is pulling out the charred remains
16:19of some of the people who've been killed.
16:22I mean, this tragedy has required
16:25extraordinary courage from ordinary people.
16:29And an American team from the NTSB
16:30is flying in to help with the investigation
16:32so these families can get some of the answers they need.

18:29The Maces have served in almost every major American conflict.
18:33It's special to me because I have an ancestor,
18:35a five-times great-grandfather,
18:36that was there at day one.
18:3819 April, he was there in Lexington.
18:40So it's exciting.

18:54R. Matt Gutman jumping with the elite team
18:57ahead of the anniversary.
19:00I don't think you ever get the appreciation
19:03of what it is gliding down,
19:05having a real bird's eye view.
19:09We like to think of ourselves as a bright, shiny object.
19:13Hey, look at us.
19:14What was the bright, shiny object 250 years ago?
19:17The bright, shiny object was freedom.
