02:16From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir.
02:25Good evening.
02:25We begin tonight with President Trump late today spending more than an hour in the Situation Room with his national security team.
02:31President Trump has called for Iran's unconditional surrender amid this growing conflict with Israel.
02:36The president saying the U.S. knows where Iran's supreme leader is hiding, but that he doesn't want him to be killed, quote, for now.
02:44Members of the president's national security team seem leaving the White House after that meeting this afternoon in the Situation Room.
02:50The president returning abruptly last night from the G7 summit in Canada so he could, according to the White House, attend to many important matters.
02:57President Trump posted a warning to the 10 million people of Iran's capital saying, quote,
03:02everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran with no further explanation.
03:06Traffic, you can see right there, backed up for miles.
03:09Tonight, the two sides continuing to trade attacks.
03:11Israel releasing video of what they say is their pilots tracking mobile missile launchers through the streets of Iran, taking them out.
03:18And tonight, Iran sending missiles just moments ago into Israel.
03:22There are growing questions at this hour.
03:24What is President Trump?
03:25What is the U.S. now considering?
03:28ABC's chief White House correspondent, Mary Bruce, leading us off tonight.
03:34Tonight, as Israeli missiles find their targets in Iran,
03:37President Trump with this demand to the Iranian regime, unconditional surrender.
03:43Adding this threat, we know exactly where the so-called supreme leader is hiding.
03:47He is an easy target, but is safe there.
03:50We are not going to take him out, kill, at least not for now, saying our patience is wearing thin.
03:57Trump has been urging Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal, but now...
04:01He should have done the deal. I told him, do the deal.
04:04So I don't know, I'm not too much in a war to negotiate.
04:07Tonight, Iran's supreme leader posting ominously, the battle begins.
04:12As Iranian missiles continue to fall on Israel.
04:15Our Ian Pannell in Tel Aviv.
04:18We just heard the first sound there of an intercept, so we're going to have to disappear.
04:21But this is another round of Iranian strikes on Israel.
04:26The Iranian army's commander saying the operations carried out so far have merely been warnings for deterrence,
04:32and a punitive operation will be executed soon.
04:36Israel releasing this video, claiming to show Israeli fighter jets tracking Iranian mobile missile launchers
04:42through the streets of Tehran, before blowing them up.
04:45In Tehran, terrified residents racing to escape, traffic gridlocked, and long gas lines,
04:51after Trump posted this warning, saying everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran, with no further explanation.
04:58The president today meeting with his national security team in the Situation Room,
05:03as Israel ups the pressure on the U.S. to intervene militarily to destroy Iran's nuclear program.
05:09Only the U.S. has the 30,000-pound bunker buster bomb, capable of reaching Iran's deeply buried nuclear site.
05:16Trump now weighing his options, saying he's looking for something, quote, better than a ceasefire.
05:21What specifically is better than a ceasefire? What are you looking for here?
05:27An end. A real end, not a ceasefire. An end.
05:30So something that will be part of it.
05:32Or giving up entirely. Is that okay, Jim?
05:37All right, so let's get right to Mary Bruce. She's live at the White House tonight.
05:39Mary, tonight, obviously, Israel targeting Iran.
05:42Iran now retaliating at this hour.
05:45The big question this evening, with what President Trump said about the Supreme Leader,
05:48and President Trump's warning for the people of Tehran to evacuate,
05:53the obvious question, if and when the U.S. could play a more direct role in this conflict.
05:58And David, as we are seeing these images of Israeli strikes in Iran,
06:02I've just learned that President Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier today,
06:06as the U.S. military is already moving warplanes and assets to the region, if needed,
06:12to defend American personnel.
06:14And that big question now weighing on the President tonight, whether to push for negotiations
06:18or join Israel's campaign and bomb Iran.
06:22David.
06:22Mary Bruce, who will be following this into the evening here.
06:24Mary, thank you.
06:25Now to that breaking news involving Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem
06:28rushed to the hospital by ambulance in Washington, D.C. today.
06:32Let's bring in our Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.
06:34Pierre, what have you learned?
06:36David, Secretary Noem was transported by ambulance to the hospital earlier today.
06:41I just got this statement from her spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin, and it reads,
06:46Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today.
06:49She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.
06:52She's alert and recovering.
06:54By all accounts, the secretary appears to be stable.
06:57But we're trying to get more information about what the allergic reaction was to and the severity.
07:02Good news, she appears to be okay and is talking to her staff, David.
07:05Pierre Thomas, live in Washington.
07:07Pierre, thank you.
07:08Now to the dramatic scene in New York City, a candidate for mayor detained by ICE agents
07:12inside immigration court.
07:14Agents handcuffing him and taking him away.
07:17Here's Aaron Katursky.
07:19Do you have a judicial warrant?
07:24Tonight, one week before the primary in the race for New York City's mayor,
07:27the dramatic scene involving one of the candidates inside immigration court.
07:32Where is it?
07:33Where is the warrant?
07:34Ice agents pulling Brad Lander, an elected official and Democratic candidate for mayor,
07:40through a hallway.
07:41Pushing him against the wall, locking him in handcuffs.
07:44You don't have authority to arrest U.S. citizens.
07:47Sir, you don't have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens.
07:51I'm not obstructing.
07:52I'm standing right here in the hallway.
07:53I asked to see the judicial warrant.
07:55Lander had linked arms with a migrant officers were trying to arrest, prying the two men apart.
08:00Homeland security officials accused Lander of assault and impeding a federal officer.
08:05Federal prosecutors said they're investigating, but late today, Lander walking out free.
08:10I said you assaulted an officer.
08:12I mean, you guys all saw it on video, so you know exactly what happened.
08:16And I think probably on advice of counsel, I will not characterize the events.
08:23But I certainly did not assault an officer.
08:25It comes days after a United States senator was detained in California.
08:29Hands up.
08:30Hands up.
08:31I'm Senator Alex Padilla.
08:33I have questions for the secretary.
08:35Also, I want to talk.
08:36Senator Alex Padilla forcibly removed from a press conference as he tried to ask Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem about ice arrests in Los Angeles.
08:45Today, Padilla emotional.
08:47I was forced to the ground.
08:50In his first speech on the Senate floor and issuing this warning.
08:53What's happening is not just a threat to California.
08:56It's a threat to everyone in every state.
09:00These public officials are being detained, David, during an uptick in ice arrests outside immigration courtrooms around the country.
09:06David, Aaron Katursky with us again tonight.
09:08Aaron, thank you.
09:09Next tonight, more than 100 million Americans on alert for severe storms as a powerful system moves through the middle of the country and then right into the northeast.
09:16At least 19 reported tornadoes across three states already.
09:20Dangerous storms again after dark.
09:22100 mile an hour straight line winds in Wichita and in West Virginia tonight.
09:26The toll now rising from devastating floods.
09:28They're now seven dead with more rain now on the way.
09:32Here's chief meteorologist Ginger Z tonight.
09:34Tonight, powerful storms threatening millions after a tornado outbreak across the plains.
09:40100 mile per hour straight line winds slamming parts of Kansas this morning.
09:45Last night, gigantic textbook tornadoes tearing across miles of fields and farms.
09:50At least 19 reported across Nebraska, Colorado and Minnesota.
09:55Thankfully, no injuries and minimal damage.
09:57But it shows what this system can do as it pushes east.
10:00Meanwhile, in West Virginia, where a month's worth of rain fell in just 30 minutes this weekend, homes and vehicles washed away.
10:08Officials announcing a seventh death.
10:11This flood I've never seen in devastation.
10:13It's like we have.
10:15David Patterson is the chief of Triadelphia's volunteer fire department.
10:19We have had more structures disappear, gone.
10:22People's houses are missing.
10:24Mobile homes, people were in them.
10:25Five of the seven people killed lived in this town, including 19-year-old Travis Creighton, his sister Shelby, telling ABC he was so funny, full of life and had a very big heart.
10:38So let's bring in Ginger Z.
10:40I know you're tracking these systems as they're on the move yet again tonight, Ginger.
10:45Yes, and the one that we'll look at first, David, is the same one that hit over the weekend.
10:50It's been really slow to move.
10:51It was stationary and then now it's finally lifting through, but still leaving flood watches for the entire state of West Virginia through tonight.
10:57State College down to Roanoke, Virginia, all could see locally up to five inches with those training storms.
11:03Then the new storm, the one that produced those tornadoes, already severe thunderstorm watches in the high plains.
11:07Denver's also included parts of Wyoming.
11:09Tornado watch, Wichita, down through northern Oklahoma and into the panhandle of Texas.
11:14Now let's time it out because it's not just the tornadoes we've already seen, four reported so far, but this damaging and destructive wind that will power through after the sun sets.
11:22David, that's a level four out of five tonight.
11:24Tomorrow it's a level three out of five, and then the East Coast gets it on Thursday, David.
11:28All right, another unsettling night ahead, Ginger.
11:30We'll see you first thing in the morning on GMA.
11:33Next tonight here, we have new reporting on that suspect who showed up at the door, authorities say, in a realistic latex mask disguised as an officer shooting lawmakers.
11:41Alleged gunman Vance Bolter, a husband and father, and what we now know.
11:45And tonight, the Utah senator deleting his posts now after what he said after those lawmakers were targeted and shot.
11:52Here's Faith Abube.
11:53This is surveillance image of the man who police say wore a realistic latex mask and is responsible for the politically motivated assassination of former state house speaker, Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark, and their beloved family dog, Gilbert.
12:09The suspect also shooting State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
12:13They're recovering from gunshot wounds.
12:16Authorities say 57-year-old Vance Bolter had a hit list of at least 45 state and federal elected officials, most or all Democrats, and allegedly stalked and surveilled those on the list like prey.
12:28Tonight, members of Congress receiving a security briefing, pushing for improved protection, and for the divisive political rhetoric on all sides to be toned down.
12:38Democrats and Republicans saying it's too much.
12:41A bipartisan group of lawmakers calling out Utah Senator Mike Lee over his social media posts from Sunday, appearing to mock the assassination, posting an image of the suspect in that latex mask before police say he killed Melissa Hortman and her husband.
12:56Senator Mike Lee, writing, this is what happens when Marxists don't get their way, and saying nightmare on Wall Street, a reference to the state's governor, Tim Walls.
13:06Do you stand by the post that you made on X?
13:09Senator Lee has since deleted the post.
13:11Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota confronting Lee about the images he posted of the suspect.
13:16I wanted him to know about the consequence of his words, and I went to him and I said, you know,
13:22your message on social media showed the image of the man who killed my friend, potentially minutes before that happened.
13:30And tonight, the community not only remembering the Hortmans, but also what they did for service dogs.
13:35Your dog Gilbert, a four-year-old golden retriever, was shot by the suspect.
13:39The family longtime volunteers of the nonprofit Helping Paws, helping train service dogs for years, adopting Gilbert from the program during the pandemic.
13:49Their bond was deeper than most pet owners.
13:54The Hortmans were survived by two children who say their parents left behind an incredible legacy of dedication to this community.
14:02And, David, that community will honor them right here at the state capitol with a vigil tomorrow night.
14:07David.
14:07Just a horrible story all the way around.
14:09So glad you pointed out what they did for service dogs in that community as well.
14:13Faith, thank you.
14:13Next tonight here in Boston, the questions from the jury during deliberations in the Karen Reed murder trial, accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend.
14:22What the jury's questions could signal on this third day of deliberations now.
14:27Matt Guppin following the trial.
14:29On the third day of deliberations in the murder retrial of Karen Reed, accused of ramming her SUV into her Boston police officer boyfriend,
14:36the jury's signaling their confusion about jury instructions, leaving many searching for clues in the questions they're asking.
14:43We received a question from the jurors.
14:47If we find not guilty on two charges but can't agree on one charge, is it a hung jury on all three charges or just one charge?
14:56Reed is facing three charges, second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol,
15:01and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
15:03The judge trying to answer their question.
15:06We don't answer theoretical questions.
15:09I tell the jurors that they're not to be concerned with the consequences of their verdict, and that's exactly what they're doing here.
15:17The case against Reed has gripped the nation and divided the Boston area and launched a legion of supporters,
15:23hundreds of them right there, dressed in pink, outside the courtroom.
15:26Earlier, the jury asking about the charge of operating under the influence,
15:31and whether the video clips of Reed's television interviews, including with ABC's 2020, can be used as evidence.
15:37When you walked out of the bar, how many drinks had you had?
15:40I had had probably about four, and not four that I completed either.
15:47I didn't drink maybe more than a few sips at the waterfall.
15:51And four drinks you felt fine to drive?
15:54Yep.
15:54David, the question from the jury today, eerily similar to the issues grappled with by the jury in that first trial,
16:02leading to concern that we might have another deadlocked jury here.
16:06They're back at it tomorrow, David.
16:08Matt Kupp and following this trial from the start for us, Matt, thank you.
16:11When we come back here tonight, you'll see the disturbing images.
16:13Police are now searching for a hit-and-run driver, images of the suspect driving right into people in the street.
16:18Also ahead, the major news tonight involving Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton.
16:23And just in this evening, remembering a beloved host from the Food Network,
16:27what we've learned about her passing.
16:28She was just 55 years old in a moment here.
16:32Tonight, police in Los Angeles are searching for a hit-and-run driver accused of plowing through a crowd
16:37during a No King's Day protest there.
16:39About 50 people protesting across an intersection on Sunday.
16:42Witnesses say that driver there plowed through.
16:44A woman was struck.
16:45They say she was on the hood and then fell to the street.
16:49Paramedics treating her right there at the scene, rushing her to the hospital.
16:51She is expected to recover.
16:53To the food you eat tonight, and a major move by one of the largest food companies in the country,
16:57Kraft Heinz, behind the iconic brands Jell-O, Kool-Aid, and Crystal Light, among others,
17:02says it will eliminate all artificial food dyes over the next two years.
17:06It comes after HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed a plan to phase out eight food dyes
17:11from the nation's food supply.
17:13When we come back here tonight, the developing headline,
17:15the beloved chef who has died at just 55 years old.
17:20We learned late today that Food Network chef Ann Burrell has died at her home in Brooklyn.
17:24The longtime host of Worst Cooks in America, fans drawn to her signature laugh and kitchen skills.
17:29Her family tonight calling her a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend.
17:33Her smile lit up every room.
17:35Ann Burrell was 55.
17:36No word on a cause of death.
17:38When we come back tonight, why Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton are both in the news tonight.
17:43And this is big.
17:45Finally tonight, Dolly Parton, Tom Cruise, and finally, an Oscar.
17:50Tonight here, the new honor for two of America's most iconic performers.
17:55The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announcing Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton
18:00will both receive honorary career Oscars after decades of work.
18:04Neither has ever won an Oscar before.
18:06Don't I explain what happened?
18:08Tom Cruise has been nominated for four Academy Awards over the years,
18:11most recently as a producer for Top Gun Maverick.
18:15Show me what you're made of.
18:1736 years after starring in the original.

18:33Nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Magnolia in 2000.
18:37No!
18:38You will not take my...
18:39Tonight, the Academy saying Tom Cruise will now be honored.
18:44And Dolly Parton will receive an Oscar, too.
18:47The Gene Herschelt Humanitarian Award for her, quote,
18:50unwavering dedication to charitable efforts.
18:53Working 9 to 5, want a way to make a living.
18:58The icons starred in 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias.
19:01And those scenes from 9 to 5, iconic.
19:04I never thought I'd live to see the day I'd say this about another human being.
19:07But you are evil.
19:08That's right, evil to the core.
19:10She earned an Oscar nomination for that movie for Best Original Song.
19:149 to 5, yeah, they got to where they want to be.
19:19And again in 2006 for her song Traveling Through from Transamerica.
