02:25From ABC News World Headquarters in New York,
02:28this is World News Tonight with David Bjorn.
02:33Good evening.
02:33It is great to have you with us here on a very busy Tuesday night.
02:36And we begin tonight with the tense standoff in Los Angeles.
02:38After those sweeping ICE immigration raids sparked protests.
02:42A massive military response from President Trump.
02:44Tonight, more than 4,000 members of the California National Guard activated by the president, not the governor.
02:49And now 700 active-duty Marines sent in, too.
02:53Tonight, more U.S. troops are now activated for Los Angeles than in Iraq and Syria, costing American taxpayers $134 million.
03:00This afternoon, protesters gathering near a federal building in downtown Los Angeles.
03:04Over the past 24 hours, the LAPD containing protesters and moving them off the streets.
03:09After dark, protesters setting off fireworks, a massive police response.
03:13Nearly 100 people were arrested.
03:15Tonight, here, President Trump's new warning for those who protest his military parade in Washington, D.C., now just days away.
03:22What the president says will happen.
03:24ABC's Matt Gutman leading us off tonight from Los Angeles.
03:28In a push to get the upper hand on the protests disrupting downtown Los Angeles.
03:32An aggressive show of force by the LAPD overnight, arresting over 100 people.
03:39Dozens of less lethal rounds used by law enforcement to disrupt groups, setting fireworks off at officers.
03:46Officers pouring in from every direction, overwhelming protesters.
03:50Tonight, President Trump defending his actions, saying those 700 Marines and more than 4,000 National Guard troops sent to L.A.
03:59against the wishes of officials on the ground here are there to stay, addressing troops at Fort Bragg.
04:05They're stopping an invasion just like you'd stop an invasion.
04:08Trump appearing to accuse the California governor and L.A. mayor of paying demonstrators with no proof.
04:14And they paid troublemakers, agitators, and insurrectionists.
04:20They're engaged in this willful attempt to nullify federal law and aid the occupation of the city by criminal invaders.
04:30That's what it is.
04:31Trump even suggesting without evidence that without the help of the National Guard, the city would be in flames.
04:37But we witnessed many of the protesters self-policing, keeping others in check.
04:42The National Guard's role has been minimal, but California Governor Gavin Newsom posting this picture online,
04:49showing troops resting on the floor, suggesting the Trump administration sent those men and women
04:53without first securing a place for them to sleep or arranging supplies like food and water.
04:59Calling it a haphazard stunt, the military disagreeing, responding,
05:03the soldiers have ready access to food and water as needed.
05:06There are now more U.S. troops deployed to Los Angeles than Iraq and Syria.
05:10Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Capitol Hill with DOD leaders
05:14saying the mission will go on for the next 60 days, costing $134 million.
05:20We have deployed National Guard and the Marines to protect them in the execution of their duties
05:25because we ought to be able to enforce immigration law in this country.
05:30Why are you sending warfighters to cities to interact with civilians?
05:33Every American citizen deserves to live in a community that's safe, and ICE agents need to be able to do their job.
05:44They're being attacked for doing their job, which is deporting illegal criminals.
05:48And in the latest round of his feud with President Trump, late today, Governor Gavin Newsom pushing back,
05:53asking the court to block the unprecedented use of military personnel to assist with immigration raids.
05:59And a short time ago, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell addressing accusations his officers did too little, too late to assist federal officers.
06:07My understanding, based on what we've looked at, is it was within 38 minutes.
06:11Normal total from the time that you started to the time you actually got to.
06:15From the time that we became aware of the need to the time we got there was 38 minutes.
06:18And David, just moments ago we learned there was a blow to Governor Newsom,
06:24a federal judge rejecting Governor Newsom's bid to block the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines here to Los Angeles.
06:32And we just wrapped that interview with the LAPD chief who told us that the protesters you see are here.
06:38They are not going to be interacting with either the Marines or the California National Guard.
06:43That will remain the jurisdiction, he said, of local law enforcement.
06:47Matt Govman live in Los Angeles tonight. Matt, thank you.
06:50President Trump now preparing for his military parade in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
06:54And tonight, the president's new warning here for anyone protesting the parade.
06:58What he warned will happen.
07:00Mary Bruce traveling with the president at Fort Bragg.
07:03Tonight, as tanks roll towards Washington to prepare for President Trump's military parade,
07:08the president with this warning to anyone who might show up to protest.
07:12If there's any protester who wants to come out, they will be met with very big force.
07:16By the way, for those people that want to protest, they're going to be met with very big force.
07:21There are protests planned for the day of the parade around the country.
07:24And I haven't even heard about a protest.
07:27But, you know, this is people that hate our country.
07:30The president has longed for this parade, a show of military might like he's seen from other countries.
07:36Sources tell ABC News mounted rocket launchers will be on display, as well as a precision guided missile.
07:41This, in addition to those tanks and an assortment of fighting vehicles.
07:46The event will also feature 6,700 soldiers and a 50 aircraft flyover.
07:51Trump getting a bit of a preview today in a visit to Fort Bragg.
07:55Saturday is going to be a big day in Washington, D.C.
07:59You know, a lot of people say, we don't want to do that.
08:01I say, yeah, we do.
08:02We want to show off a little bit.
08:04The parade, which is billed as a celebration of the Army's 250th anniversary, also falls on Trump's 79th birthday.
08:12Sources tell us it could cost up to $45 million.
08:17And, David, the president with another announcement here tonight telling troops that he's restoring the names of seven military bases that were originally named for Confederate officers,
08:26including one named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
08:29David.
08:30Mary Bruce at Fort Bragg tonight.
08:31Mary, thank you.
08:32The breaking headline here in New York City tonight, federal authorities say they've uncovered a horrific plot.
08:36After that firebomb attack on Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, the alleged plot to target Jews in New York City with AR-15 style rifles.
08:44The FBI claiming the suspect said we could rack up easily a lot of Jews.
08:49Aaron Katursky and what he's learned tonight.
08:51Just days after the horrific firebombing targeting Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado,
08:57and the deadly shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, D.C.,
09:01tonight authorities unsealing new charges in an alleged plot targeting Jews in New York City.
09:06Federal prosecutors say a 20-year-old Pakistani national wanted to carry out a coordinated attack with AR-15 style rifles on a Jewish center in Brooklyn in the name of ISIS.
09:16The FBI quoting the suspect, Mohammed Khan, is saying New York is perfect to target Jews.
09:22Even if we don't attack an event, we could rack up easily a lot of Jews.
09:26We are going to NYC to slaughter them.
09:29Authorities say Khan was talking to undercover law enforcement officers,
09:32allegedly saying he was trying to create a real offline cell.
09:36Khan was arrested last September in Canada, 12 miles from the border,
09:40where the FBI says he tried to hire someone to smuggle him into the United States.
09:46Tonight, David, the suspect has arrived in New York.
09:48He's due here at Manhattan Federal Court tomorrow to face terrorism charges that could put him in prison for life.
09:54David.
09:54In court tomorrow, Aaron Kaczorski, thank you tonight.

10:19Authorities in the city of Graz say a 21-year-old Austrian man walked into the school with a rifle and a handgun
10:26he legally owned and opened fire.
10:28At least 10 people killed, including nine teenage students and one teacher.
10:33Nearly a dozen more students injured.
10:35First responders treating victims at the scene.
10:38Video posted to social media showing the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
10:42Students rushing through the hallways as heavily armed officers escorted them to safety.
10:48Tonight, this community shaken.
10:51The first thing is shock, to be honest.
10:54I think you can't react the other way.
10:56Like, I think the whole city, everyone in the school is in complete shock.
11:02David, you can see the tributes behind me.
11:04Officials say the shooter took his own life at the scene.
11:06He's a former student at the school who didn't graduate.
11:09Authorities say they found a letter during a search of his home, but so far have not revealed a motive.
11:14David.
11:15That moving vigil right there behind you tonight, Tom.
11:18Meantime, back here in the U.S. tonight, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
11:22igniting an uproar now after removing every member of the CDC's Vaccine Advisory Board.
11:27We first reported on this last night here, and tonight now the protesters at the CDC

11:52And RFK Jr. is going to be the one calling the shots.
11:56They're upset with the nation's health secretary, who tonight is defending his decision.
12:00After assuring lawmakers that he wouldn't mess with the committee of experts who advised the CDC on vaccines.
12:06We're going to bring people onto the ACIP panel, not any vaxxers.
12:11We're bringing people on who are credentialed scientists and who are going to follow the science
12:16and make critical public health determinations for our children.
12:22In what some say is a stunning reversal, RFK Jr. fired the 17 scientists, saying they'll be replaced.
12:28Dr. Noel Brewer got one of the pink slips.
12:31Healthcare providers used to look to ACIP to establish best recommendations based on evidence and expert advice.
12:38And that expertise has left the building.
12:41For years, Kennedy has questioned the science of vaccines.
12:44There's no vaccine that is, you know, safe and effective.
12:48Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, a doctor, was a deciding vote in approving Kennedy for the job
12:53and said this at the time after meetings with RFK Jr.
12:56It confirmed he will maintain the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations without changes.
13:06Do you have any regrets?
13:07Today, he was quiet about that vote.
13:08But online said that he worried a new advisory board will be filled up with people who know nothing about vaccines except suspicion.
13:15The senator says he'll keep talking with Kennedy about how he replaces these advisers.
13:21How this will affect public health policy is another question.
13:25This same group of advisers is set to hold a meeting later this month where they could potentially recommend a COVID vaccine for this winter.
13:32And it's the same group that recommends flu vaccines.
13:36David.
13:36All right.
13:37Steve Osansami, who has been at the CDC all day for us.
13:39Steve, thank you.

13:48She was America's sweetheart, Olympic hero, and the first woman to win gold in the all-around in 1984.
13:54Gymnast Mary Lou Retton.
13:56The gold medal goes to Mary Lou Retton.
