00:00Godzilla may have thought he was a king, but maybe there's another monster that might dethrone him.
00:04Here's a look at the brand new Hiya toys. This is the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Exquisite Basic King Ghidorah.
00:10The second item in the classic Godzilla Exquisite Basic series is King Ghidorah from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.
00:32The Exquisite Basic King Ghidorah action figure stands 13 inches tall with an 18.5 inch wingspan,
00:38faithfully reproducing every detail of Ghidorah's appearance from the 1991 film.
00:43Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the figure features multiple joints throughout its body,
00:48PVC wings with eternal wires for an authentic look, and a wide range of articulation.
00:53It also includes three stands to recreate its various combat scenes from the film.
00:58Three heads and no arms? This guy must be impossible to clothes shop for.
01:01If you're looking to shop around and find Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, just mark it on your calendar.
01:05This guy is slated to drop in June 2025 in many of the online sites that have listings for Hiya Toys.
01:11Just know as well, this guy is going to be going for a $99.99 price point, which is under $100.
01:16And considering how much we get here for King Ghidorah, that's an amazing price.
01:20Now, this mold looks like it's also going to be used again as Hiya Toys is slated to drop as well,
01:25a battle damage version of King Ghidorah that's going to be dropping in February 2026.
01:29A year from now, or a little less than a year from now, he's going to be selling for the same.
01:33And then in July 2026, they're also going to be releasing a Mecha King Ghidorah,
01:39and he's going to be selling for about $20 more.
01:41I think he's selling for $119.99.
01:43So there's going to be a lot of King Ghidorah going around.
01:46Of course, here are the folks over at Hiya Toys.
01:48Without further ado, of course, let's take our tape measure and let's just, you know, let's do our thing.
01:52So we're going to first start with maybe the middle head.
01:54Not that it really matters, because the heads are always almost about the same height,
01:58depending on, again, how you really want to pose them.
01:59If we want to go just to the head alone, I know his wings are really technically taller.
02:03King Ghidorah is going to stand at nine and a quarter inches.
02:07That's just, though, to his head.
02:08That works out to be about 23 centimeters tall.
02:11If you want to go to the full extent, though, obviously you're going to want to go to his wings.
02:15Now, again, the wings can be moved around, but in the configuration I have right now,
02:19let's go to the highest point.
02:20And King Ghidorah, with his wings, is then 12 inches in height, or roughly about 30 centimeters tall.
02:26I really don't need to bore the time machine from the Futurians,
02:28because a couple of days ago, though, we also had to look at the 1991 Godzilla,
02:32also from the folks over at Hiya.
02:33To compare the two together, I mean, clearly there's a size and advantage going to King Ghidorah
02:38when it comes to the mass, when it comes to the firepower.
02:40But Godzilla still holds his own, though, but that's what the two figures look like side by side.
02:45I didn't help but notice looking at the read-up online,
02:46that it also makes mention of three stands to recreate his various combat scenes from the film.
02:52I didn't have any stands inside the packaging,
02:54and I'm wondering if that's just an afterthought,
02:56that maybe they had planned at one point to include stands with King Ghidorah.
02:59But the figure is basically coming with everything that you see right now.
03:02No assembly, though, was required.
03:04It's a good thing as well.
03:05I'd hate to think that I'd have to start forcing things together
03:08in order to get his wings on, in order to get his tails on, his two tails on.
03:12But everything you get with the figure is already attached to the figure.
03:14When you take him out of his clamshell casing.
03:17With that being said, though, let's get a closer look at King Ghidorah.
03:20There's a lot in threes, there's a lot in twos.
03:22Let's look at the three things first, that being, of course, his heads.
03:25Now, the heads do look like they're all identical with one another.
03:29I don't know if there's a difference, really, with King Ghidorah's three distinct heads,
03:32because I don't think they are distinct at all.
03:34I mean, somebody that knows a lot, maybe more about King Ghidorah,
03:37could probably tell me down below.
03:38But I think from what I understand,
03:40it's not really until he becomes Mecha King Ghidorah
03:42that he changes his look that much.
03:45The head sculpts, though, are incredible.
03:47I can't imagine the amount of detail and work that went into sculpting these things from scratch.
03:52Each one of the heads, as you probably would imagine, being that they seem identical,
03:55all have the same levels of posability to them as well.
03:58If you look at, though, like the spikes on the tops of their heads as well,
04:02the spikes seem a little bit softer in plastic,
04:04but the majority of the faces are a good, solid, dense plastic.
04:08I love the way that you can open up the mouth to quite a good extent as well.
04:12And they have sculpted the tongues, although, disappointingly,
04:15the tongues are permanently attached to the bombs of the jaw.
04:18Now, when we looked at the 1991 Godzilla, for example,
04:20his tongue was a kind of floating piece.
04:23It would have been cool if they could have done something similar here with King Ghidorah's,
04:26just so that when you open up the mouths,
04:28there would be at least like a kind of a levitating tongue.
04:31But that's a small little criticism for the fact of how cool
04:35and how incredible this guy actually looks in hand.
04:38He's all done here, obviously, here in gold.
04:41Again, a lot of the paint goes into, obviously, the faces just alone
04:43because not only would they have to have rely on just the gold plastic,
04:47but to go then in there and paint the teeth,
04:49paint the eyes as small as those eyes may be.
04:51And again, between that head, this head here in the middle,
04:54and the one off to the side, they all look to be exactly the same.
04:58The posability also is one thing that we're going to touch base on
05:01when we get further into this review.
05:02Don't want to spend so much time talking about the articulation
05:05when there's so much more time, really, that we can talk about
05:07how much sculpting went into not only the undercarriage of this,
05:11but also on the tops as well.
05:12If you look at the bottom of the belly of King Ghidorah,
05:15it really reminds me of the classic Aquaman,
05:17just the way they sculpt the scales like this.
05:19It doesn't look like it really has much in the way of a wash,
05:22unless perhaps they had cast this in a lighter gold plastic
05:26and then had then painted the gold over top of it,
05:28because then maybe this metallic gold would have been a hard thing
05:31to cast straight from the mold itself.
05:33But the actual scaling, though, is clean.
05:35I mean, again, while there's not really a whole lot of extra wash added to this,
05:38you can see how the scales change their form a little bit
05:41on the undersections of the King Ghidorah's individual necks,
05:44all three of them.
05:45Of course, you've got these large, stocky legs,
05:47very actually similar to what we got with Godzilla.
05:49The feet themselves, while again, he doesn't have arms, unfortunately,
05:52could you imagine how more of a threat he would have been
05:54if he actually had arms?
05:55But the feet, again, are nicely sculpted.
05:57I do like that they've actually made the feet flat.
06:00There's no real need, I feel, to make the feet textured like this
06:03or give an underpad,
06:04because it would just cause balancing issues.
06:06Keep the feet, I feel, good and flat,
06:08because then you're going to have a nice, stable base
06:10for King Ghidorah to stand upright.
06:12And so far, knock on wood, he stands pretty well.
06:15He is a little loose in the knees,
06:17but not loose enough where I feel worrisome
06:19that the figure's going to have a tough time standing upright.
06:22Anyway, again, he's done really nice sculpting, though, for the feet,
06:24the claws, only four claws this time around.
06:28It looks like they've only just really painted the claws individual colors.
06:31Now, Godzilla, they went in there and actually darkened a color at the top
06:35and they kind of transitioned the color down.
06:37It actually looks like with King Ghidorah,
06:38it's more kind of just a very dark, dark gold.
06:41Nice looking feet, though.
06:43Obviously, one thing about King Ghidorah is the fact he has these giant wings.
06:46The wings are not soft plastic,
06:50but just to kind of show you guys how much flexibility there is to it,
06:53it's very similar to like a superhero cape.
06:55It's more of a rubber plastic.
06:57And I guess doing that, too, if they had made it a hard, rigid plastic,
07:00there could be a likelihood that the wings could potentially break.
07:03With this, though, I mean, obviously, I wouldn't really recommend
07:05that you guys go in there and start to bend the wings around,
07:07but it does at least give you an idea
07:09that the wings have some flexibility to them.
07:12Again, like the read-up does say that there's a wire built into these,
07:16but yet I can't...
07:17I mean, you can probably maybe gauge that there's a wire
07:19that runs from this side out.
07:21Maybe not on the bottom section of the wing,
07:23but yeah, maybe on the top you can see,
07:25you can bend the wing a little bit.
07:27So if you want to kind of have a curved formation for the wing,
07:30it is possible.
07:31There's a hinge right here as well
07:33that will allow, of course, the wings to move back and forth.
07:35It doesn't really move up and down,
07:37really where the limitations for King Ghidorah
07:39when it comes to at least flapping his wings
07:41only means that he can only do it back and forth this way.
07:43And, you know, again, to put in a posable ball joint
07:46would be a very difficult thing, I would imagine,
07:48especially for the size of the figure's wings like this.
07:51And, of course, one of the other things, too,
07:52is that King Ghidorahs were known for having double tails.
07:55The tails themselves look, again, identical to one another.
07:58They have these kind of bird cacti on the end of them
08:00with all these very sharp spikes.
08:03The spikes are fairly sharp, actually.
08:05If you put your finger against them,
08:06you can certainly feel them against your skin.
08:08But again, like, these would be things
08:09that he would use as whipping weapons.
08:10Because the actual tails themselves are impressive.
08:13I mean, look how many links alone each tail has.
08:16And then just take that and multiply it by two.
08:19Speaking of multiplying,
08:20there's going to be also a lot of multiplying going on
08:22when it comes to the figure's articulation.
08:24So let's do our best.
08:25And I hopefully do my best not to forget any of them.
08:28So each of the heads, you would imagine,
08:29you're going to do this one thing,
08:31and then you can just do it times three.
08:32So each of King Ghidorah's head
08:34is going to be on a ball joint.
08:36Those move up and down.
08:37You can also rock them back and forth.
08:39And again, they also have the mouth articulation.
08:42So you can open and close the mouths that way.
08:44From there, just again, that idea times three.
08:47Each of the individual necks, though.
08:49Not that I really want to spend a whole lot of time
08:51in this review to count off individual links,
08:53but, well, there's like one,
08:55there's two, three, four, five,
08:57perhaps six, seven, eight, and nine.
08:59Maybe there might even be ten.
09:00With all those ten collectively,
09:02you could imagine how much you can really be able
09:04to do with King Ghidorah.
09:05A cool pose maybe would be have, like,
09:07the heads, the necks on some of the sides
09:09be extended out like this.
09:11And maybe the one in the middle is leaning forward.
09:13That might be a cool pose.
09:15But again, there's a lot you can really do
09:16with the necks themselves.
09:17Now, when you get to the torso,
09:19the torso is going to be on a ball joint.
09:21So that moves back and forth.
09:22It does move up and down.
09:24It doesn't really move up and down too much.
09:26But you imagine there's a lot of sculpt
09:27that has to kind of work together.
09:29This is as far to the extent
09:30of what you can actually do with the torso.
09:32Not really much, though.
09:33The legs do hinge out.
09:35If you were to look at the legs
09:36and try to split them out,
09:38this is as far as of a split
09:39that you'd be able to pull off with the King.
09:41You can take the legs and move forward
09:42and move them back.
09:44As mentioned, though,
09:45I did notice that with mine,
09:46they're a little loose in the knees.
09:47Not loose to the point
09:49where I feel like the legs
09:49are starting to get floppy.
09:51Not to either the point either
09:52where I feel like it's going to have
09:53a hard time to hold the figure upright.
09:55Because keep in mind as well,
09:56you can also use the stability
09:57of the back tails
09:58to kind of help hold him up.
10:00He's going to really rest between his legs,
10:02rest on his legs,
10:03and the back of his tails.
10:04Those two things together
10:06will work hand in hand
10:07to keep the figure upright.
10:08The legs move forward,
10:09the legs move back.
10:10Again, you've got the double hinge on the knee
10:11that allows a little bit of rotation there as well.
10:14Both feet move back and forth with the ankles.
10:16You can also move them up and down this way as well.
10:19For the back wings,
10:20now again, while the wings don't swivel,
10:22they don't move back and forth
10:24to where you'd be able to kind of swing them upright,
10:26you can at least flap them forward and back.
10:28Like, there's only this much range to work with.
10:31That's how much you really have
10:32to be able to flap the wings.
10:33So you can bring, again, the wings forward
10:34if you want to have them
10:36all the way leaning forward.
10:38Or like I did at the beginning of this video,
10:39you can kind of arch them back a bit,
10:41depending on really, again,
10:42how much space that you have.
10:44And again, when it comes to the tails,
10:46there was one thing I did want to mention.
10:47I'll mention it kind of
10:48as we wrap up this review.
10:49As for the tails themselves,
10:51again, you want to count them off with me.
10:52There's got one, we got two.
10:54Kind of spiky, again,
10:55when you put your fingers against these.
10:57Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, right?
11:01Nine, ten, we're still going.
11:02Eleven, twelve.
11:04Some of these, I'm sure, will be phoned in.
11:06I don't think that all of them
11:06are individually linked.
11:07Although, again, like,
11:08if you put your fingers against these,
11:09all of them seem to independently move.
11:12So maybe we might even get a full ten.
11:14The tail itself, also,
11:16even the spiked ends,
11:17and yes, they are very spiky,
11:19you do move forward and back,
11:20you can rotate them all the way around.
11:21The only one thing I will say, though,
11:23about King Ghidorah as impressive,
11:25and yes, he is very impressive
11:27to have in hand,
11:28and even just to look at him like this.
11:29The one only concern I have, though,
11:31is with the wings being
11:32a softer rubber like this.
11:35Granted, I've only really had this figure
11:36out of the packaging
11:36for maybe about two hours,
11:38and I've obviously had some fun
11:39kind of moving him around
11:40and posing him in different poses.
11:42The one thing I kind of have
11:43taken away from this, though,
11:44is with the wings being
11:46this material like this,
11:47I wonder if the weight
11:48of the material over time
11:49will cause these wings to droop.
11:52Now, keep in mind,
11:53one of the precautions
11:54that they may have put in place
11:55is that they have a wire built into this.
11:58With the wire in this,
11:59this might add some stability to it,
12:01but I don't know,
12:02I maybe think that
12:03with the weight of these wings
12:04and the fact that there's only
12:05just a single hinge
12:06kind of keeping them up,
12:07I wonder, though, over time
12:09if these wings will start to flop down.
12:12Because again, like,
12:13you really got to think about it,
12:13like, there's these big heavy wings,
12:15they're about that long,
12:17and of course, when you look
12:18at the size of the main body
12:19in the middle,
12:19that's a lot of weight
12:21on the ends of the wings
12:22that keep upright.
12:23And maybe, again,
12:24like, had they included
12:25these stands
12:26that they had advertised online,
12:28because like the read-up,
12:29when I was looking online
12:30for King Ghidorah,
12:30I said three stands
12:31to kind of help get him in poses.
12:33I wonder if, well,
12:34maybe stands could have been beneficial.
12:36Yes, I know it loses the illusion.
12:38You don't want to have
12:38a cool figure on the shelf
12:39and then have these notable posts
12:41visible on the front of it.
12:42But by incorporating, like,
12:44clear, like, acrylic posts,
12:46something that maybe
12:47could have plugged onto
12:47the bombs of his wings,
12:48it could have maybe helped
12:50keep the stability of the wings.
12:52Again, I don't worry so much
12:53that the wings are large.
12:56Large isn't so much of the issue,
12:57because obviously King Ghidorah
12:58is going to have large wings.
12:59My big real issue, though,
13:00is with the material being
13:01this kind of material
13:02that they've used,
13:03that softer kind of rubbery plastic,
13:05and with the weight of them,
13:07I wonder if over time again
13:08those wings will start to droop,
13:09or the hinges, dare I say,
13:11will start to loosen over time.
13:13As he is right now,
13:14he is an incredible-looking figure.
13:16And I can certainly understand
13:17why they would want to get
13:18as much mileage out of this mold
13:19as they can.
13:20This is, again,
13:21like the standard classic
13:221991 King Ghidorah.
13:24Then they're going to be releasing
13:25in next year,
13:26next year,
13:26between February and July,
13:28a battle-damaged version
13:29of this guy
13:30that's going to be
13:30a little bit more torn,
13:31a little bit more tarnished.
13:32He's also going to have
13:33torn wings
13:34after his battle with Godzilla,
13:35speaking of the 1991 Godzilla.
13:38Then after that,
13:39we don't have to wait
13:39that much long.
13:40A few months after February,
13:41we're also going to be getting
13:42a mecha King Ghidorah,
13:44which, again,
13:45is probably going to be using
13:46a lot of the same mold
13:46that we've seen
13:47throughout this review
13:48and incorporating
13:49some robotic elements.
13:51If you're a fan
13:51of King Ghidorah,
13:52definitely venture
13:53into the territory.
13:54Even just say it like
13:55you have not collected
13:56any Hyatt toys.
13:57Hopefully, reviews like this
13:58have persuaded you.
14:00If you're a big fan
14:01of the original Toho films,
14:02loved the look
14:02of King Ghidorah,
14:04considering as well
14:05that this guy
14:05is listing right now,
14:07even though he's not dropped yet,
14:08he's going to be dropping
14:09this month alone,
14:11he's selling for $99.99.
14:12I can't believe $99.
14:14We're about $100
14:14for a King Ghidorah
14:15that's this big,
14:16that's this impressive,
14:18that's this poseable.
14:19The more I look at King Ghidorah,
14:21the more I think
14:21Hyatt's going to have
14:22a harder time to reuse
14:23some of those molds
14:23that we get from this figure.
14:25In fact, looking at the two,
14:26the only thing I can think
14:27that they probably
14:28will be able to borrow over
14:29from the original one
14:30is perhaps some of the links
14:32for the tail,
14:33the two side necks,
14:34and the heads
14:35that are attached to them.
14:36The middle head,
14:37obviously,
14:37is going to have
14:38a robotic head.
14:39It's going to have
14:39robotic parts in the torso,
14:40in the wings,
14:41and even the lower legs.
14:42So, while I think
14:43they probably could use a lot
14:44and lend over
14:45to the battle damage
14:46to King Ghidorah,
14:47I don't think that
14:48there's going to be
14:49much to be made
14:49when it comes to
14:50the mecha release
14:51that's coming out next year.
14:52Speaking of next year,
14:53though,
14:53I know we're going to
14:54have to wait a little while.
14:55This one's slated
14:56to drop this month,
14:57so if you're looking
14:58just to get your hands
14:58on a classic look
14:59to King Ghidorah,
15:00this is the one
15:01that's going to
15:01probably do you fine.
15:02And again,
15:03for $99,
15:03that's not a bad price
15:04at all.
15:05Next year,
15:06though,
15:07wait around February.
15:08February,
15:08we're going to begin
15:09the battle damage
15:09release of this guy
15:10and then a few months
15:11after that,
15:13July 2026.
15:14Mark that on your,
15:15well,
15:15you'll have to mark
15:16it on next year's calendars,
15:17but next year in July,
15:19you're going to be able
15:19to get your hands
15:20on Mecha King Ghidorah.
15:22All again,
15:22for a reasonable asking price.
15:24You know,
15:24it's one thing again
15:25to look at these figures
15:25and then think
15:26what other companies,
15:27you're going to have
15:27to look at something
15:28that what Haya is doing.
15:30Ask yourself this question,
15:31if another company
15:32was doing this,
15:33how much would they
15:34charge for it?
15:35Well,
15:35I mean,
15:35like even just
15:36as a reflection,
15:37Bandai,
15:37Bandai is releasing,
15:39I think,
15:39a Mecha King Ghidorah.
15:41I think what they've
15:41got planned,
15:42or maybe if it's
15:43Bandai Spirits,
15:44I think that's still
15:45an extension of Bandai.
15:46They're going to be
15:47releasing,
15:48though,
15:48a Mecha King Ghidorah
15:49for $279.99.
15:52Not really being able
15:53to have the Bandai
15:54release in front of
15:55my hands right now
15:56to be able to see
15:56the differences
15:56between the two.
15:57I'm more happy
15:58to pay the $100
15:59for a King Ghidorah
16:00than $280
16:01for a figure
16:02that might be
16:02the same size.
16:04It's a fantastic figure.
16:05I mean,
16:06I would say like
16:06if you are a fan
16:07of the original
16:07Toho Godzillas,
16:09this would be one
16:10you may want to
16:10add to your shelf.
16:11Yes,
16:12granted,
16:12though,
16:12he's going to
16:12take up a lot
16:13more space
16:13on your shelf,
16:14but I think
16:14it's well worth
16:15the sacrifice
16:16if you're getting
16:16something like this
16:17in hand.
16:18Big hand,
16:19a big thank you
16:19again to the folks
16:20over at Hayatoys
16:21that did provide
16:22this sample,
16:22the brand new
16:23Godzilla 1991.
16:24This is the Godzilla
16:25versus King Ghidorah,
16:26and we looked at
16:27King Ghidorah himself.
