00:00Well, the King of the Monsters survived Biolante, but can he survive Ghidorah?
00:05Here's a look at the brand new Hayatoi's Exquisite Basic Godzilla 1991 Hokkaido Battle Version.
00:22Hayatoi's first item of the original classic Godzilla.
00:24Now Godzilla, from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah 1991, joins Hayatoi's Exquisite Basic series.
00:31The story follows Godzilla's battle with Biolante in 1989.
00:34Three time travelers from the 23rd century Earth Union organization arrive into Japan,
00:40revealing that Godzilla will become the greatest enemy in the future.
00:43To prevent this apocalypse, they propose going back to 1944 and removing the dinosaur
00:48before exposed to nuclear testing and mutated into Godzilla.
00:51However, the true intentions of these future travelers are unknown to present-day humans.
00:56They left three Dorats on the island to mutate into a destructive creature, King Ghidorah, under radiation.
01:02Godzilla and King Ghidorah engage in a fierce battle, putting the fate of humanity and the entire world in jeopardy.
01:09We need to thank the Futurians from 2204 for the release of the King of the Monsters this time.
01:13No, in fact, I'd like to thank the folks over at Hayatoi's.
01:16It's slated to drop on this planet in June 2025.
01:19They were kind enough to provide the samplish early look at Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah from 1991.
01:24I just threw out a whole bunch of dates there.
01:251991 was when the movie first came out.
01:28June 2025 is again when this figure is going to be releasing for $50.99.
01:33Ironically, though, enough,
01:34Bandai is also going to be planning a Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah,
01:37but their figure is going to be selling for $89.99.
01:40$39 difference.
01:42You can be the judge for yourself,
01:43even though we're not going to be looking at the Bandai one just yet.
01:45But let's go ahead, though, and take the tape measure.
01:47And then, of course, we'll also bring in some other figures as well for comparison sake.
01:51From the bottom of his feet to the top of his head,
01:53you're looking at the 1991 Godzilla standing, what, about six and three-quarters of an inch in height.
01:58Yeah, that translates to a figure that's 17 centimeters tall.
02:01Then for its length.
02:02Now, I've done my best to try to extend the tail as far as it can go
02:05from the end of its tail to, what, I guess the front of its snout.
02:08Let's maybe go with that.
02:09You're looking at it being 14 and a half inches or roughly about 26 centimeters long.
02:15Now, when it comes to Hyatt toys and it comes to Godzilla,
02:18generally the rule of thumb is that we usually end up looking at a variation of this guy right here.
02:22Now, this would be the one from the King of the Monsters,
02:24the recent release from the Hollywood Studios,
02:25or also it has been branched off in this similar mold.
02:29Granted, it has been then released again, probably like Godzilla vs. King Kong.
02:33We've gotten Godzilla X Kong.
02:35But again, essentially, it's the same mold.
02:36They've made a few little tweaks here and there and changed the color scheme ever so slightly.
02:40For the length of the toys, first of all, when you have the two figures side by side,
02:44the 1991 Godzilla, you can probably already see for yourself, is a little longer in the neck.
02:48Length-wise, though, with the tails, they're almost about the same.
02:51Let's just move these guys over so it gets you at least an idea of what's going on here.
02:55Let's also bring in, speaking of King Kong, let's bring in King Kong right now
02:59so you guys can also see what he looks like.
03:02And I happen to have still the one from NECA Toys.
03:04Now, I think this is the one from 1991.
03:06You may correct me down below if you want.
03:08The one that's a little bit different, though, with the NECA is it's a little bit shorter in neck,
03:11but at least it gives you an idea, if that is, again, from 1991,
03:16it gives you at least an idea of how Godzilla's been approached from two different distinct companies.
03:20Not a whole heck of a lot that comes in clear with the 1991's Godzilla.
03:23In fact, the only thing that he has outside of himself, I figure, comes in clear with a couple of mauling hands.
03:29Now, we will be, just to tip my hat early, we will be also looking at King Ghidorah in the upcoming review.
03:34So that's something, again, to wet your whistle.
03:36For at least, though, his hands, they are sculpted extremely well.
03:39And I do like the way they've actually colored the nails, too.
03:42Like, the top of the nail is a little bit darker.
03:44It gets a little lighter as it gets to the ends of the points.
03:46Those will be the points that scratch out your face.
03:48To change out, though, the hands on Godzilla, it's just a case of holding onto the forearms.
03:52This would be so much easier than having a one-to-one scale of Godzilla.
03:55I wouldn't be able to grab onto his big toe.
03:57So let's just pop that off, though.
03:58Take the hand that we want to then use and just plug it in place.
04:03Now, I've noticed, though, with these hands, I heated these in preparation for this review.
04:07But the problem with it, though, is you may already see, the peg is so further rooted in deep inside the section.
04:14I guess that would be kind of his wrist where you really have a hard time kind of gaining traction where it doesn't even feel like it fits properly inside the hole.
04:21Now, I have heated the hole.
04:24Probably would have maybe been best to heat this a little bit longer.
04:27But that basically plugs in place.
04:28You know what I'll do?
04:28I'll leave that off for right now.
04:30We'll have to come back and revisit that as we jump to the final turntable wrap-up.
04:34So let's go just plug it back in place.
04:36Yeah, I mean, like, hand-wise, though, if you're looking at really the two.
04:39The only thing that I could really point out that's different between the two is that the hand he starts with is a little bit flatter.
04:44This hand, though, is curved a little bit more inward.
04:47Again, we'll also maybe be swapping out those hands because he sure will be needing them when he battles King Ghidorah.
04:53For the head sculpt, though, for the 1991 Godzilla, now this is the kind of the territory that I start to cover.
05:00Toho really was my thing for my bread and butter when it came to Sunday afternoons.
05:04Funny, though, enough that I would go to church, I'd come home, and then basically watch Toho Godzilla films for the rest of the afternoon.
05:09I think WUTV Buffalo, if anybody remembered that station, tend to have about two or three Godzilla movies back-to-back,
05:16and I was glued in front of the TV set for all of those.
05:191991, while I've maybe been a little bit older by then, I think I probably would have even watched the stuff even before that.
05:25Yeah, this is really the way that I prefer my Godzilla.
05:27Nothing really to say that the other Godzilla was bad at all.
05:30I mean, again, like, for what we've gotten from Hyatt Toys, it's really safe to say, though.
05:34Like, I think they've handled the licensing well.
05:36The hard thing about it, though, is obviously, as a Godzilla fan, it's fine to cover the territory of this Godzilla,
05:42but after a while, you need something new.
05:44Certainly, this is somewhat new, even though we are kind of backing it back a bit in the time machine.
05:49Godzilla, though, showing some of his age, obviously, this one would have still been in a suit and not relying solely on CG.
05:55The head sculpt is quite good.
05:56Now, this would kind of be like more the feral-looking Godzilla that has the jowls on the front.
06:00I had a cat that had very large jowls like this, too.
06:03I love the way they've sculpted those eyes.
06:05Look at those eyes, everybody.
06:07The eyes are mostly all in a light cream color, but they've got sort of a gloss to them, so it looks like they're alive.
06:13You can also go in there and open up the mouth.
06:16And inside the mouth, not only have they well-painted the top of the teeth and the bottom of the teeth,
06:20there's some gums there as well to keep all the teeth in place, but there's also a really nice loose tongue.
06:26Loose in the sense that it's not tapped or molded to the bottom of the jaw.
06:29They've kept the tongue as a separate piece.
06:31So when you do open up his mouth, it's fun to be able to see Godzilla almost like it looks like he's shrieking.
06:37Love the look of that head sculpt, though.
06:39The sculpt continues very nicely here for the rest of the figure's body.
06:43Again, really, when you're looking at the darker colors of him,
06:45again, the only one I really had up to this point,
06:47I still feel like that.
06:48I think that's a 1991 NECA Godzilla one.
06:51Very similar style of body.
06:52You can see, like, he's got really big legs, real chunk legs, and chunky bodies as well.
06:58He's also known, too, for having, like, the fins.
07:00Now, the dorsal fins, funny, though, enough, on this Godzilla, a little further down on his body.
07:05I think to go back and look at the film again,
07:08Godzilla probably would have had a few higher ones here, closer to the top of his neck.
07:12He was, though, known for having a longer neck like this,
07:14so I think they've done a job nicely enough there.
07:16Sculpting looks really good for the neck as well for the rest of his body.
07:19There's really, again, a lot of dark grays being utilized here.
07:22It really isn't just...
07:23Outside of, really, his eyes and his mouth possibly going in there as well,
07:26looking at the fingernails, which we've already kind of looked at already,
07:29that down below here for his toenails,
07:33and also the fins and scales sticking out the back of his body,
07:36that's about all the figure color that he's really going to be getting.
07:39Really, he does rely on this dark gray,
07:41but the gray is very, very reminiscent of, like, the early Toho days of Godzilla.
07:46Again, he's very stocky, though, in the body, like, very full in the figure,
07:50very thick on the thighs, very thick thighs for Godzilla,
07:53because, again, this would have been somebody walking around in a suit.
07:55Love the way they've also gone in there and colored the fins.
07:58Now, even though I do feel like the fins sort of stop abruptly,
08:01I feel like they probably should be a little bit bigger down here.
08:04I think even up to the smallest one, we get to the top of the head.
08:08Those have still been painted well.
08:09Well, all the way down they go, follow the yellow brick,
08:12well, not so much follow the yellow brick road,
08:14follow the scales all the way down to the tails.
08:16As you can see, the length of the tail is quite long.
08:19Now, I don't know, though, in the 1991 film,
08:22if the tail is as long as we're getting right here.
08:24If you think, though, the tail is too long, though,
08:26obviously you can easily go in there and just kind of bend the tail a bit
08:29to sort of hide some of the illusion that the tail isn't as long as it actually is.
08:34Speaking of the articulation, though, speaking of, yeah, the articulation,
08:36this guy seems to have a little bit more working in his tail
08:39than the new, I guess, the new trilogy of Godzilla films we've gotten from high in the past.
08:45So going back to the head sculpt, of course,
08:47Godzilla's head on its own is going to have,
08:50well, first of all, it has a ball joint,
08:51so that alone will allow the head to move up, down, back, yeah, four,
08:54and you can also rotate it all the way around.
08:57Would not normally recommend doing this,
08:59especially in the one-to-one scale, King of the Monsters,
09:01because you probably wouldn't like that all that much.
09:02She'd smash and destroy your house.
09:05The mouth does open and close.
09:07Meow, meow, meow, meow.
09:08You can also move further from that.
09:09The figure does have a secondary ball joint right at, like, the mid-neck area.
09:14I try to do my best to get my finger out of the way.
09:16He does also have a ball joint here.
09:18So if you just tally that up alone,
09:19he's got three individual links just with his neck alone.
09:23The top of the torso is on a very good ball joint.
09:26I would certainly say just by the size of his body,
09:29even though he's thick down below,
09:31he seems to have certainly a lot more posability possessed in his body
09:34than, like, the, you know, again, the 2018 Godzilla,
09:37and then kind of moving forward after that.
09:39Arms rotates all the way around.
09:40Yes, they do.
09:41Yes, they do.
09:42You can bring them out at 90 degrees.
09:44I was going to say 45 degrees.
09:4590 degrees or a T-pose.
09:47Or would that be a G-pose?
09:49Because he's Godzilla.
09:50He does also have a bend in the elbow.
09:53Now, really, technically,
09:54before we actually get to the hinge of the elbow,
09:55so he has a swivel right here for the bicep.
09:58Then, after that, you get the elbow joint.
10:00You get also, as well, a form that rotates.
10:02So, basically, it rotates here.
10:04It rotates here.
10:05And it rotates here.
10:07Here.
10:07Here.
10:08The hands move back and forth, obviously.
10:11You can take them and rotate them all the way around.
10:13Moving further down from that to these thick thighs,
10:15the legs are about the only thing that's really limited on the figures.
10:19I would imagine, though, the actor or actress
10:20that was behind the suit in these Godzilla films
10:23probably would have had a very similar difficulty
10:26of even just trying to move their legs.
10:28That's as far out as they go.
10:30That's not a bad thing, really.
10:31I mean, how much really...
10:32You're not going to have this guy...
10:33Well, I guess you could kind of have him flying in the air like that.
10:36We've seen that before.
10:37But to give him, like, karate kicks,
10:39I'm sure that's probably not going to be the way you're going to be posing this guy.
10:41You can, however, though, move his leg forward and move it back.
10:44There's a nice little swivel there at the top of the thigh.
10:46Double hinge on the knee.
10:47Now, the only thing I will say, though, about this Godzilla,
10:49at least on mine,
10:51the knee seems a little loose.
10:53Just a little loose.
10:54Not loose to the point where I feel like he's going to get floppy.
10:57But I did notice, though, that he's a little loose at the top
10:59and he's a little loose down here.
11:01So take that with a grain of salt.
11:03There's also, again, ankle pivots.
11:04You can move those back and forth.
11:05I know we didn't really even spend a whole lot of time
11:07looking at Godzilla's giant monster feats.
11:09Look how well these things are sculpted as well.
11:12Pedicure?
11:13Forget about it.
11:13There's, again, a giant pedicure.
11:16Unless somebody would fly in with, like, helicopters
11:18on a big, giant emery board.
11:19Just fly the helicopters back and forth.
11:24Could you just imagine all the debris
11:26that would be falling on the cities around him?
11:28Yeah, again, he's got ankle pivots.
11:29You can move them up and down.
11:31And technically, as well,
11:32you can really rotate them all the way around.
11:33Here, let's move to the tail.
11:35Godzilla's tail.
11:36Count it off with me.
11:37He's got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
11:44I want to make sure I got all these.
11:45Eight, nine, ten.
11:48And I think I'm counting 11 and 12.
11:51So there might be 12 individual linklets,
11:53sausage links that all allow the tail to pose.
11:56With that many links,
11:57he actually surprisingly can really move his tail quite freely.
12:01Again, the same really can be said
12:02when we looked at the kind of the more common
12:04Godzilla that we've gotten so often from Hyatt toys.
12:06Again, I don't say that necessarily in a bad thing at all.
12:09This is, again, like the bar that's been set
12:12when it came to really what Hyatt could really show
12:14the collectors of what they were capable of producing.
12:16The problem with what they were producing, though,
12:18and again, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing,
12:19was they were always kind of producing the same Godzilla.
12:23Yeah, again, like his body would have changed a little bit.
12:25They had incorporated a few little additional links in the neck,
12:28changed his color slightly,
12:30changed his dorsal fins slightly.
12:32But in the end, like, it was still like the new trilogy Godzilla.
12:35And again, we're going to be getting another Godzilla.
12:38Speaking of the new trilogy from Hyatt as well,
12:39that's now going to bring in a lot of that pink
12:41that we get in Godzilla X-Kong.
12:43But, you know, to go back to the basics,
12:45kind of where like Toho really met, left their mark.
12:48Certainly when I first became a fan of Godzilla,
12:50was like the early kind of,
12:52I would say like the mid to late 80s
12:53was the time I really started watching them on TV.
12:55I mean, obviously the movies would have predated those.
12:58And then, of course, the 1991 Godzilla
12:59is kind of like the more classic look to Godzilla
13:01that I always think of the most.
13:03He's the one that I always kind of picture on posters,
13:05on t-shirts, on mugs.
13:07Anything you can think of the classic look to Godzilla
13:08tends to be kind of like around this time frame.
13:11Still a nice looking figure.
13:12Love that they are now doing classic Godzillas.
13:15Like, let's just stop for a second and realize
13:17how good Hyatt has been doing job-wise
13:20when it comes to like these releases.
13:21You can only just imagine what they're going to be able to do now
13:23with the classic Godzillas.
13:25Now, again, we're going to be looking at the,
13:26here, we have finished looking at the 1991 Godzilla
13:29from Godzilla versus King Ghidorah.
13:31We will also, speaking of King Ghidorah,
13:33or King Ghidorah, as some would also prefer to pronounce,
13:36we're going to be looking at also that in an upcoming review.
13:38And I'm sure, though, at the time that we're looking at the king,
13:41we're going to be bringing back the previous king
13:43just to see how the two scale side by side.
13:46Perhaps that was a bit hard to read,
13:47but I got to tell you, though,
13:48I really like the look of the 1991 Godzilla here.
13:51From Hyatt Toys, and again, marking the presses
13:53the way that they do, a $51 figure.
13:56Well, to be fair, it's $50.99 for a $50 figure,
14:00and then you're looking at what we're going to be getting from Bandai.
14:03I think they're releasing theirs in June for $89.99.
14:07I don't know, $39 difference.
14:09I'm happy just really to stick with Hyatt Toys.
14:11Hyatt Toys have really been impressing me over the years.
14:14Unfortunately, though, with what they really have been impressing me with
14:16generally has kind of been within the same Godzilla universe.
14:19The biggest thing as a complaint I could really have made about the company at that time
14:23was that they really need to focus some of their efforts, some of their efforts.
14:27They could still really continue to do the stuff that we're getting in the new Hollywood trilogies
14:30or the future films, but yeah, every once in a while,
14:33go back and kind of look at some of the coolest days of Godzilla,
14:36and now they've started to do that.
14:38Not only, again, are we getting the 1991 Godzilla here from Wally versus King Ghidorah,
14:43but speaking of King Ghidorah, yeah, we are also going to be looking at him
14:46in an upcoming review as well, so there's a lot of cool Godzilla things coming your way.
14:51Once again, I'd like to thank the folks over at Hyatt Toys that did provide this sample.
14:54What do you guys think of Godzilla from 1991?
14:57Let me know down below, and you know, speaking of letting me know down below,
15:00if you are, though, a fan of the Godzilla films,
15:03when was your entry into watching those films?
15:06Maybe it was in the 80s, maybe it was even earlier than that, in the 60s and 70s.
15:09Maybe, maybe you were first introduced to Godzilla from, what, the 1998 Hollywood film.
15:15Um, that's probably not one that you'd really want to admit.
15:18But if you guys certainly did enjoy this video, do it a solid yeah, and throw it a like.
15:21You guys want to stick around for more so?
15:23I hope so.
15:23King Ghidorah is on his way.
15:25Make sure you hit that subscribe, make sure you turn on the bell.
15:27Make sure, though, you're coming back with giant King of the Monster peepers peeled.
15:31Could you imagine how difficult it would be to peel the peepers of a giant Godzilla?
15:35I don't even want to think about it.
15:36I want to think about that as much as taking a big giant emery board
15:39and filing away his big monster toenails.
15:41But it's got lots more videos, guys, coming your way.
15:45As always, thanks for watching.
15:46See you guys next time.
