At a Center for American Progress Event, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) responded to the likely victory of Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani in the NYC Democratic mayoral primary.

00:00Just also on cost of living, we had an election in New York City.
00:07Assembly member Mamdani won the election, had a lot of people come out and vote for him.
00:13I guess I just wanted to ask your perspective.
00:16He focused a lot on cost of living issues.
00:19How do you see the election result?
00:20Yeah, I mean, I will admit to not being like a huge student of New York City politics.
00:24But I think that what I can take from it, the message that came across loud and clear, I guess, to me,
00:32was, number one, people, just like in November, are still really focused on costs and the economy
00:38and their own kitchen table math, and they're looking for a new generation of leadership.
00:44Those were, to me, the two big takeaways.
00:47And I think this is why, again, it reinforces for me, like, we may disagree on some key issues,
00:54but understanding that people are concerned about their family budget,
01:00that is a unifying thing for a coalition.
