00:00Shape up or ship out? Cops on foot patrol or street beats need to be physically fit to perform their duties.
00:08Hence, a fitness program of physical exercises are set to the rhythm of funky or dance music has been put in place
00:15to help overweight or pot-bellied police lose weight, as our Ryan Lesigas reports.
00:21One of the marching orders of PNP Chief Police General Nicolás Torre III to the police force is quick response to crime.
00:30But how can the police carry this out if some of them are overweight?
00:33To address this, Torre ordered that being overweight for cops will no longer be allowed.
00:38Because of this, the Philippine National Police or PNP has relaunched its physical fitness conditioning program, more popularly known as Polisthenics.
00:45This is the police force response to Torres' directive to maintain good physical condition to effectively fulfill their mandate.
00:52To the beat of music, police officers exercise together, not only in Kamkrami but all over the country.
00:58In the message of the PNP Chief, read by Deputy Chief PNP for Administration, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartates Jr.,
01:05he emphasized the importance of physical fitness among police officers.
01:08According to him, police officers will achieve a healthy body and a clear mind, resulting in quick action and strong willpower.
01:15We are expected to stay calm, think clearly, and act decisively, even in the most challenging conditions.
01:25And we cannot do that if we are not in good shape physically and mentally.
01:33The said exercise program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday weekly in all PNP units nationwide.
01:39All of these are essential in performing our sworn duties.
01:43I challenge each of you, lead by example, encourage your teams, let this be more than a scheduled activity, let it be a culture.
01:55Meanwhile, PNP spokesperson, Police Brigadier General Gene Fajardo confirmed that Police, Community Affairs and Development Group did not push through
02:03with hiring controversial fitness coach Rendon Labrador for their 93 Days Challenge.
02:07Challenge Ryan Lisigues from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines Camp Crame.
