00:11After losing in the first set, Ayala came back strong in the last two sets to defeat third seed
00:16and former French Open champion Jelena Ostenpenko of Latvia 0-6, 6-2, 3-2 in the second round of
00:24the WTA 150 Lexus Eastburn Open on Wednesday, June 25. The match ended early during the fifth game
00:31of the third set, with Ayala serving. Ostenpenko, who had already taken two medical timeouts to check
00:36her ankle, told the umpire she could not continue. With this win, the 20-year-old Filipina beat Ostenpenko
00:42again, after also defeating the 28-year-old Latvian in straight sets at the Miami Open last March.
00:48In the quarterfinals, Ayala will play against either Dayane Estremsk of Ukraine,
00:52a 2024 Australian Open semi-finalist, or British wildcard Francesca Jones.
