00:30Spicier than salsa and still with a twinkle in his eye the man who calls himself macho is actually mellowing with age at age 33 today
00:43He'll meet undefeated gary kirkland 10 years his junior live from ledyard connecticut we're at the foxwood resorts and casino
00:50Hi everybody i'm tim ryan here at ringside and everybody knows hector macho camacho a two-time world champion had a lot of speed and
00:57Style as a younger fighter but in recent months he has been showing some newfound power i guess that has come with age as well in fact in his
01:05Last six outings he has scored four knockout victories in those six victories and i'm joined at ringside here by gill clancy and gill i know that
01:13You have some thoughts on how a hector camacho has suddenly developed the power that he didn't show as a non
01:20One-punch knockout artist back in his youth well tim you know he's fighting at a heavier weight now
01:25But he's also got a lot older so he settled down a lot more he's setting down on his punches and he's really found some good punching power
01:33Especially with that straight left hand what does he give up having developed this power what's different it doesn't seem that he's given up too much
01:39He's a great defensive fighter moves a lot very very hard to hit
01:44Young gary kirkland undefeated in 23 fights at age 23
01:49is not at all afraid of uh of hector camacho he says he's not fighting the legend he's just trying
01:54Treating this fight as another fighter on his road map in the boxing world here's the strategy
01:59With the pressure i put on him and the body shots i throw uh you know i might be able to stop him i'm not looking for
02:05i'm not looking to stop him no i'm just looking to beat him uh that's all there is to it
02:09i'm gonna beat him up you know it's i'm gonna mug him
02:15there is gary kirkland from whiting indiana 23 and 0 just seven knockouts and yet watching him on
02:21videotape in recent fights it looks like he has some power yo what are your thoughts on this kid's
02:25strategy for camacho timmy's got the right idea when he says he's going to have to mug camacho to beat him
02:31but he's going to have to find him first and looking for him he may run into that straight left hand that
02:36powerful new left hand of camacho it looks like gary kirkland has some real good boxing skills he
02:42goes to the head and body he's got a big right hand kind of surprising he hasn't knocked out more of
02:46his opponents tim i like the way he fights a rough tough guy never lets you rest puts pressure on you
02:51all the time camacho is going to have to be at his best to handle gary kirkland has brought fans

08:27hector macho camacho and gary kirkland 12 rounds of belterweight action
08:32uh they do have a let's go let's go title at stake if you're wondering why it's 12 rounds
08:37come on come on come on out of the ring get him out of there boxing organizations uh that have
08:42surfaced to further confuse the public this one is the intercontinental boxing council has a belt
08:49at stake in this battle today so it is a 12-round fight camacho with the fringe trunks and gary
08:57kirkland in blue with white diamonds two pretty colorful outfits here to start the action he's
09:0323 years of age unbeaten 23 and 0 from whiting indiana camacho 53 wins only three defeats 25
09:12there's that straight left hand of camacho's already tim and you know the opening bell kirkland ran
09:17across the ring his strategy is to put pressure on camacho let him out gary step step good good
09:26camacho's only defeats the hands of felix trinidad most recently before that
09:33it was real caesar chavez in 1992 and a 12-round loss to greg haugen in 1991 a loss that he
09:40avenged just a few months later and tim uh kirkland has never fought a southpaw in his 23 wins he says
09:49he's been training with southpaws but i'm sure none with the speed of hector camacho well in fact he
09:56made it sound like his sparring partners were actually right handers who turned around so
10:02sounded like he hadn't even been training with a legitimate southpaw but he was very confident
10:06that he had had enough training against that look we'll see what he's done
10:19oh
10:34gary kirkland stopped spoken young man very confident doesn't have a nickname but as you
10:39As you can see on his trumps, it says, Strictly business.
10:44And Camacho, digging to the body and head,
10:46backs up Kirkland for the first time.
11:00So far, Kirkland looks very relaxed.
11:03A little redness under his right eye already.
11:09And Camacho just threw another left and landed right there.
11:12Under 30 seconds to go here in the first round.
11:27Kirkland trying to get close, landed right to the body,
11:29but paid for it.
11:33Kirkland lands a left to the forehead of Camacho.
11:38Final second, first round.
11:43In the middle of my workday, I don't do power lunches.
11:46I do power lifts.
11:49And when you work out this hard,
11:51better use a deodorant that works hard, too.
11:53That's why I use Speed Stick.
11:55It gives me 110% protection that lasts all day,
11:58and fortunately, all night.
12:00Because while I may not have time for lunches,
12:02I always manage to find some time for dinner.
12:05Speed Stick. Like you, it never quits.
12:07And try new Speed Stick Clear for clear protection that never quits.
12:12If you're like most guys, you probably don't have a clue what conditioners do for hair.
12:15Got me.
12:17But what if I told you they help hair lay right, stay in place, smooth fly aways?
12:21Conditioners do that?
12:22That's right.
12:23And there's no better time to see for yourself than now.
12:25With New Perk Plus shampoo and conditioner in one.
12:28Reformulated with some of the most advanced cleaners and conditioners out there.
12:32For much more manageable hair than regular shampoo with no more work.
12:35So what do you think?
12:37You know, I think I could get used to this.
12:39New Perk Plus.
12:40Great hair, no fuss.
12:46Round number two scheduled for 12.
12:47Gary Kirkland in blue and white.
12:49Hector Camacho in the fringe leather outfit with matching boots.
12:54A timid.
12:55Camacho may be fighting at a heavier weight, but he hasn't lost any of that hand speed.
13:04Hands are like lightnings.
13:05There you go.
13:18Kirkland forcing the issue again.
13:20Camacho backs himself into the corner now, spins out.
13:23Combination landed by Camacho.
13:38A little nick under the right eye.
13:42Gary Kirkland is under the eye.
13:45Doesn't seem to be too severe.
13:47He lands a good right hand.
13:48Camacho fires the right hand back.
13:51Kirkland continuing to pressure following his game plan.
13:57Camacho uses that corner to spin out so effectively.
14:03Tim Kirkland is following his strategy.
14:05He's really trying to mug Camacho.
14:07Anytime he gets in against the ropes or in the corner, he's letting those hands go.
14:11He's not being overawed by Camacho.
14:15Maybe overskilled, but not overawed.
14:17Kirkland indeed still looking very relaxed.
14:23Not been in against anybody the caliber of Camacho in his .22 range.
14:27He has a full-time job.
14:29He works in his steel mill.
14:31An overnight shift.
14:32And so consequently, he hasn't been able to get out of Indiana to follow a pro career on a bigger scale.
14:39Camacho landing with that right jab.
14:43Doubling it up and scoring.
14:45Getting Kirkland's attention under a minute to go here on the second.
14:48A little blood from the nose now.
15:01Gary Kirkland starting to flow.
15:03Tim Kirkland is very effective to the body with Camacho.
15:07That right jab of Camacho has taken its toll on the nose of Gary Kirkland.
15:30Final seconds of coaching here in round number two.
15:35Pick hands of Camacho.
15:37Back up Kirkland.
15:38A combination landing.
15:48To get a complete aerobic and muscle building workout, you can run, and lift weights, and
15:54cycle, and climb stairs, and lift weights, and cycle, and lift weights, and climb stairs,
15:59and cycle.
16:00Or you can just lay back and relax.
16:03Introducing the Soloflex Rocket.
16:05A total fitness machine that gives you an aerobic workout and builds muscle at the same time.
16:10And you can own it for less than you'd imagine.
16:13Call now for a free video and brochure.
16:17Yeah!
16:18Ah!
16:20No.
16:21Really?
16:22Anybody?
16:24Yes!
16:25Just on the scene I gotta use it, that'm니 to set inдеópawns seems in May building
16:27as well.
16:28Oh and they've sinceHiuna.
16:32round number three kirkland comes out quickly as he has each round they've got the blood stopped
16:56from his nose but camacho has been peppering away with that right jab and scoring to the
17:01nose of gary kirkland kirkland for his part has continued to follow his plan of trying to stay
17:05right on top of camacho quick hands of camacho finding their target more readily and the blood
17:12is coming from the nose again tim and there's that powerful left hand of camacho's you can see he's
17:18flat-footed now sits down on those punches there's where he's getting that power
17:23off his neck off his neck get a flood on the floor i'll hold the neck
17:27steve smoker the referee warning of camacho for holding behind the head of kirkland
17:34blood all over the face of gary kirkland it's all from that nose bleeding freely
17:42camacho able to start that flow as soon as the round begins
17:45what kirkland's gonna have to do tim and it's not gonna be easy is when cock when camacho throws
17:52punches like right then he has to punch right back the only way he's gonna be able to nail
17:57camacho just can't nail him solidly with a good lead banging to the body missed with the right hand
18:05kirkland's punches are obviously a lot slower than camacho's most boxers are but he is
18:11he is a slow puncher kirkland and you can see most of uh his punches coming but he does throw
18:17them in lots of different directions he's very good going head and body camacho with a combination
18:22tim camacho looks very very sharp to me right now talking about him fighting a sugar ray leonard or
18:29pernell whittaker i mean his skills and those fast hands he belongs with those guys well those are two
18:35different guys i'd say with pernell active and uh ray talking about coming out of retirement but
18:41nothing more at this point that's what people say that they've had discussions it is a serious
18:49business they do want that fight sometime next spring
18:52eden ray leonard of course is yet again retired conell whitaker is a whole other story
18:59Franken acknowledgement
19:03Oh, my God, I'll hold him behind my head.
19:15Another warning from Steve Smoker, the referee, and the combination landed to that nose again,
19:20and now Camacho steps in for a straight left.
19:24Kirkland stood his ground, but his head snapped back, and he takes another shot to the nose.
19:30Kirkland's right eye is just about closed, Tim.
19:33That's the swelling that began in the first round.
19:36There's a good left hook from Kirkland.
19:40Final seconds of round number three.
19:54He still has vision, Doc.
19:55On the Boxwoods Resort Casino, you can hear the referee Steve Smoker saying that Kirkland still has vision,
20:01but there is swelling, as Gil Clancy pointed out, and they'll work on that in the corner.
20:09Tim, you mentioned that they're going to work on it in the corner.
20:11They do not have an end swell that I can see.
20:14You're right, Gil, they have not attempted to work on that swelling.
20:21Now they've got some ice on it.
20:23Now they have the end swell.
20:25Yeah.
20:25They wasted 15 to 20 seconds before they put that end swell on it.
20:29Manager and trainer is Dennis Hardesty, and he's been with them right from the beginning of his career at age nine as an amateur.
20:36The other corner people are Ray Zale, brother Tony Zale, and Victor Simano.
20:45There is swelling, you can see, and out of the right eye, Gary Kirkland, and they were late getting in his mouthpiece.
20:56So there's a little bit of nerves in the corner of Gary Kirkland, not serving him well during that minute break.
21:04Tim, you know, when you're going to use that end swell, you have to take advantage of every second that you have.
21:09You can't wait 15 to 20 seconds before you use it on the eye, and you can't take it off until the last second.
21:15They used about maybe only 10 seconds with the end swell.
21:18Well, for the benefit of those who don't know what the end swell is, it's a piece of metal that they keep in the ice bucket so that it's very cold,
21:26and then it's supposed to be applied with considerable pressure on the swelling throughout all the available time between rounds.
21:34Let him out. Push off yourself. Come out this second.
21:36Good.
21:37Down four scheduled for 12.
21:39Let him out, March. Push off.
21:41And again, you can see Kirkland working that body, trying to get something going.
21:46But Camacho is just too quick.
21:50There he is again, trying to reach underneath, set up a combination.
21:54Right hand through Dick Kirkland.
22:01That's Dick Camacho planning on a wedding on New Year's Eve upcoming.
22:06Aaron Torres, his longtime girlfriend and mother of his two young sons.
22:11Hector with a 17-year-old son.
22:16The early relationship, and the youngster is a boxer.
22:19Kirkland goes down.
22:22A right to the head, and then two body shots.
22:25Five, six, seven, eight.
22:29How you feel, brother? Walk to me. Walk to me.
22:31Steve Smoker checking out Gary Kirkland.
22:34Kirkland says he's all right.
22:35It was that strong left hand again that finally put him down at the end of the combination.
22:40And there's another combination scored by Camacho, trying to stop Kirkland here in the fourth.
22:45Push out.
22:51One thing Kirkland is his game, Tim, but that's not enough.
22:56A minute to go here in the fourth.
23:00Camacho with four stoppages in his last six outings.
23:04Outing.
23:06We're going to get one here against Gary Kirkland.
23:15They've got straight left again by Camacho.
23:20Step, step, step.
23:23Under the 32nd mark, we go around four, and Camacho now pummeling Kirkland, who's holding on.
23:29He's showing the signs of wear here in the fourth.
23:42Camacho showing a variety of punches, trying to get to the head and face of Gary Kirkland in the final seconds of round four.
23:48Come on, Camacho!
23:53Victor, Macho, Camacho.
23:56Impressive here so far.
23:57If the doctor take a look, you'll get enough time.
24:00Give me that spit bucket in the middle.
24:02Knockdown scored by Camacho in the fourth round.
24:06You want that spit bucket?
24:07Give me that spit bucket.
24:10Camacho protects himself well.
24:11Comes up with that right hook, and there's that straight left again.
24:15And there's the left again.
24:16He's overworking, and a right uppercut, another right, and a left finally puts him on the deck.
24:25So Kirkland, under a flurry of punches from Camacho, going down in round number four.
24:30First knockdown of the fight.
24:32And they have the inswell under that right eye again.
24:35Kirkland looking a little bit more discouraged.
24:36Okay?
24:39Tim, I noticed that he's starting to snap.
24:41It's not on Kirkland's punches any longer.
24:43I think he is discouraged.
24:46Something big is going to happen for Kirkland to get into this fight.
24:52And then he comes running across the ring again to start the action.
24:56Trying to throw right to the body.
24:58You can see his right eye as he came out of the corner.
25:02Starting to close, and that'll become a vision problem for him.
25:09We're into the fifth, scheduled for 12.
25:11Vector Camacho with 53 victories, and has been in against an outstanding array of named fighters from 130 pounds all the way up to 150.
25:28Although this victory string that he's compiled in his last nine bouts has not included any big names.
25:36In fact, the last star boxer he faced was in January of 94 when he lost in 12 to Felix Trinidad, the outstanding IVF welterweight champion.
25:44Kirkland, the biggest fight of his young life, at age 23, with 23 wins against low losses.
26:00He has not beaten any household names.
26:03Camacho right now is very comfortable in there, Tim.
26:08He's just about controlling everything inside, outside.
26:12He's just about what he wants to do.
26:18Camacho clearly acknowledges that the middle part of his career, he enjoyed the fast lane.
26:23And arrested a couple of times, and automobile infractions, and so on, and had a bout with drug use.
26:34But now he feels he's a much more mature person in life and in the boxing ring.
26:41Planning marriage and father of two young children, and wants that one more big fight opportunity.
26:46And the left hand of Camacho is dangerous.
26:52You can see the power in it when he throws it.
26:54Then he just landed it again.
26:56He did, and he backed up Kirkland with that under a minute to go here on the fifth.
26:59Keep cracking it! Keep cracking it!
27:01Don't leave it here!
27:04Nice button shot! Nice button!
27:07Yeah, he had commented at the beginning of our bout that the way he sits down now, meaning he's planting his feet, getting more leverage,
27:15that contributes to his power.
27:17Are you seeing other things in this bout that show you the new Hector Camacho?
27:20Well, Tim, you can watch his feet.
27:23He's in a flat foot, his stance, and he's able to launch those powerful punches.
27:27He's not continually moving now.
27:30Setting down on those punches is what we call it.
27:33And he's very effective.
27:35Most of the time when a guy goes up in weight, he loses his punching power.
27:38It's been just the opposite with Camacho because of the fact that he's able to set down.
27:43Remember, he started as a junior lightweight champion at 130 pounds, and now up close to 150.
27:51Right, step back, bell, bell.
27:54The 95 racing season is hotter than ever, and Napa's leading the way with the road to the championship sale.
28:00For a limited time, pick up a Napa Pace car t-shirt for just $6.99.

28:12Napa's road to the championship sale, where everyone's a winner.
28:15If you like Head & Shoulders better than any other dandruff shampoo,
28:27wait until you try new Head & Shoulders with Micro-D.
28:31Fights Flakes better without stripping your hair of essential oils.
28:34Turn dandruff problems into great-looking hair with new Head & Shoulders.
28:38I don't need some fancy cologne to tell me I'm a man.
28:42I use Skin Bracer.
28:43It smells great.
28:44But it also cools and tones my skin.
28:47Confidence is very sexy.
28:50Don't you think?
28:51Original and cooling blue.
28:52By men.
28:55Round number six.
28:57Round number six, live from the Foxwoods Resort & Casino
29:00in Connecticut, where Hector Macho Camacho
29:03has been dominating young, undefeated Gary Kirkland, 23-0.
29:09And that right eye of Kirkland's a little more closed
29:12each time he comes out to start a new round.
29:14But Tim, each time he comes out, he runs across the rink
29:17to initiate the action.
29:19Hector hasn't completely discouraged him as yet.
29:23Backs him up with a combination there and the quick hands.
29:26He's patented quick double and triple jabs of Camachos
29:40we've been watching for so many years.
29:42And the differences Bill Clancy described,
29:44that he will settle down and throw with left-handed power.
29:50Get out, get out.
29:52Okay.
29:52Back to the center.
29:55Kirkland's still willing to stop and try to get close.
29:57But he has slowed considerably.
30:00Tim, I also like the concentration of Camacho.
30:03He's very aware of everything that's going on at all times.
30:07Complete concentration on his opponent.
30:11Take it to the left-hand lead.
30:12Landed it.
30:14In the center, move your head.
30:16Kirkland with the left of the body, but he missed.
30:19Second swinging hook.
30:22Camacho resting on the ropes, ties him up,
30:25and that's something that he knows how to do very well.
30:41Sell-out crowd here at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino.
30:44Watch Hector Macho Camacho.
30:46Very popular up here.
30:47He's fought here before.
30:47Off the neck, Clark.
30:50Off the neck.
30:50Back to recently, in nearby Hartford, he was given the key to the city
30:54and visited the Puerto Rican community there.
30:57He maintains a home in Puerto Rico.
31:01Tim, as you are pointed out, the hand speed of the two fighters is,
31:05there's such a difference in the speed of Camacho's punches
31:09and the punches of Gary Kirkland.
31:10He throws correct punches, Kirkland throws to the body and head,
31:15but Camacho's punches are just too quick.
31:21A little blood from the nose of Gary Kirkland again.
31:24Under 30 seconds we go in the sixth.
31:30Kirkland trying to slash to the body,
31:32and Camacho telling his corner,
31:34I hear you boys, I'm under control here.
31:37Getting a little more counsel than he requires.
31:44Final seconds of round number six
31:46with Hector Macho Camacho
31:48impressively in command against Gary Kirkland.
31:50There you go.
31:52There you go.

32:49We're up.
32:51We're up.
32:52We're up.
32:53We're up.
32:56and here's that straight left hand of camacho's that we've been talking about with all of its
33:04power right on the button of kirkland right before the bell sounded ending round six we're live now
33:10in round number seven kirkland has been down once that was in the fourth round and we're into round
33:18seven scheduled for twelve weather weights gary kirkland and blue and white hector camacho and
33:23the fringe light turquoise other trunks with matching boots
33:37camacho who always comes out in a fancy outfit and makes that part of its image
33:41nonetheless has been very serious throughout this boxing match and showing that he is
33:47seriously intending to try and pursue yet one more world championship
33:51one of the major titles is what he wants daniel whitaker is his primary target but continues to
33:59talk about a match against ray lenders and tim kirkland is really pressing the fight again and
34:04landing some good solid body punches he has not been discovered there's a little bit of action
34:09after the bell in the last round where camacho landed a punch and kirkland tried to run after him and
34:14state of the league hequis of kim smoker had to rap hankes and he negligent to dreamer of the body
34:22champion came back
34:23you know a lot of people talk about how my show is playboy image etc etc but tim he's always been in
34:30condition anytime he's been in a fight and you have to be in condition because kirkland is making him work and putting pressure on him and he still pressures the days it seems to me
34:33been in condition anytime he's been in a fight and you have to be in condition because Kirkland
34:39is making him work and putting pressure on him and he still pressures the days he seems to me
34:45he feels very comfortable these days both of his fighting weight and his own change in his
34:53lifestyle more of a family man now and happy with it and he feels that that's made him even better
34:59in the ring under a minute to go round seven good combination finish with the left hand
35:17Kirkland's punches seem to be getting slower and slower Tim
35:22scoring a little more readily finding a way through the defensive
35:25Kirkland that big left hand there Kirkland says it didn't hurt but he took a good shot
35:32what a tough kid he is Tim
35:38blood streaming from the nose very very heavily now Tim his nose looks like it's badly damaged
35:46and Kirkland trying his best here going toe-to-toe but he just doesn't have the hand speed to match
35:53Camacho who does final seconds round seven Camacho trying to finish it
35:58out of his nose
36:07you can't see you understand you can't see now i'm gonna give you all the water you want
36:16come on how you feel spin it don't worry about it
36:19working in the Kirkland corner on that nose once again and under the right eye
36:25it's all come out of his nose okay very good very good
36:29look here let's take a look at what's happening there's that
36:31java Camachos and the straight left hand again
36:38Kirkland going into a little dance Tim like he's not being hurt by those punches
36:41you can hear steve smoker talking to the ringside doctor
36:48that's going to the ringside doctor
36:57has only been more than six rounds three times in his career eight ten and nine nine in his last outing
37:11get that piece in there time in time in he's smoker having to help the corner get kirkland
37:17ready to come out with his mouthpiece tim and talk about nerves they dropped the mouthpiece
37:21then they started to put it in his mouth without washing it well he hasn't had to deal with this
37:26situation before he's 23 and oh he's been in command in his fight this is the first time that
37:32his corner has had to deal with this kind of a circumstance and setback bleeding and losing gary
37:39kirkland round number eight scheduled for 12. hey doc you get ready and that was steve smoker the
37:55referee again and now kirkland is bruised under the left eye tim so both eyes are starting to close
38:02let him out let him out good nice and clean that's it good he's smoker he heard just alerting the
38:08ringside doctor to be ready to come and take a look at kirkland so smoker very aware he doesn't
38:13want this youngster to get hurt it's almost the way that nose is bleeding now it's possible he could be
38:18broken and he's still talking to kamacho he's got plenty of heart gary kirkland from whiting indiana
38:26doing his first defeat kamacho is like a will of the wisp and uh kirkland just can't see if they
38:39reach him with any good solid head punches at all get out get out
38:44he's still showing the quickness of foot ability to slip and move the lucidness that was shown throughout
38:55his career it's a newfound power and it settles down and unloads especially the left
39:02watch yourself right now
39:04kirkland is still indicating that he's not hurt i can take some more but that's what he's taking
39:16from kamacho is more from the nose it's been bleeding bleeding freely from the second round on
39:24him is becoming a clinic now camacho just picking him apart only knockdown was in the fourth round
39:34kamacho sending kirkland down with a combination
39:43kirkland banging to the body still trying
39:47kamacho stationary and made him pay for a moment
39:50they're going to have to take a serious look at kirkland between rounds now tim
39:54again both eyes are bruised his nose is badly cut kirkland just landed a combination
40:03to the face of hector camacho but that's a little too little too late final seconds round eight

41:03why ivory has no heavy perfumes no dyes no deodorants because you're sweet enough just the way you are
41:11ivory the queen queen
41:17stay low round number nine you're looking at gary kirkland a game youngster 23 years of age from
41:22whiting indiana in against the much more proficient nector camacho has been very impressive
41:27and his corner is apparently going to let him come out the doctor checked him between rounds
41:32says that his vision was all right for him to continue
41:34but he has not won around on our card and uh one must question why is that corner would send him back out
41:42here gill
41:47if you were in the corner do you let this young kid come out now absolutely not uh
41:5210 he hasn't had a little hurt much with any punches that he's thrown he doesn't figure the score a knockout
41:57just figures to take more punishment and uh referee smoker said i'll give you one more round so uh
42:03he's giving him a chance to really go out and try to hurt camacho but he's going to hurt himself
42:07more by walking with the punches well the referee did consult with members of the boxing commission
42:12and first of all with the doctor he was mainly concerned about kirkland's vision and uh
42:18i decided that he was able to see well enough
42:22hector camacho an impressive performance against an overmatched young man here uh even though he had
42:27an unbeaten record of 23 and 0 and not been in against big time caliber and he was exposed pretty
42:33quickly by camacho in the early rounds but his heart wasn't exposed because this kid is a gamester
42:39and he's still throwing punches here in the night trying to turn it around and the big one
42:46get out get out
42:49macho's one nine in a row has not been in against top caliber opposition himself
42:53since the loss to felix trinidad trying to build up his record and get himself that one last big time fight
43:02one thing about kirk and camacho doesn't have to look for him because he's coming at camacho
43:06all the time and again as we mentioned he's not going to land that big one and i i think it's more
43:13of a dangerous for him he's going to be the one that's going to get me out by the big one
43:18falling under both eyes the bloody and probably broken nose here's a youngster who broke his hand
43:24in his last fight in the second round wound up stopping his opponent in the night that was in february of
43:31this year and ko nine of bernard matthews fight the broken hand
43:36and they have one tough customer do it again baby don't stop it
43:44camacho ripping out the right hand jab after the combination
43:50a little sting on it smoker taking a real good look at kirkland and he should he should stop this fight
43:56he should stop this fight right now
43:58he's in smoker watching very carefully and again another close look
44:05macho continues to pour it on and again kirkland stays in there and steve smoker says that's enough
44:12he's disappointed kirkland but that's a good decision by steve smoker
44:17there's no point in uh allowing that to go any farther and
44:22in fact we thought maybe this corner should have kept him in there at the end of the eighth round
44:28the game performance by gary kirkland an impressive boxing display by hector macho camacho
44:34lifts his record to 54 wins in his long career give me a figure three defeats 26 knockouts now
44:42macho camacho started boxing in september of 1980 here he is in 1995
44:49and uh hoping for that one more shot at one more big fight
44:55all right let's let's talk to pernell whitaker a talk a serious talk we might add of uh
45:01of course it's up to ray leonard whether or not he's going to get
45:04make yet another comeback and give camacho that opportunity let's go back and see the
45:09closing of gloria punches that uh steve smoker decided wasn't up again this is when when camacho
45:15is conducting the clinic look at those short little punches tim on the inside here one two three
45:22and a little holding behind the head to help out which she's always been
45:25pretty nifty at that's why he's a veteran tim
45:2954 victories for hector macho camacho and we'll be back to talk with the winner

48:41what was your uh what was your impression of your own performance uh it was pretty well sharpening up
48:45you know like i said you know i'm fighting consistent now that's what's bringing my speed back out
48:50my sharp shooting my defense my offense but i'm here right now i keep fighting this kind of fighters
48:55you know and just get ready for fights like whitaker you know chavez chavez come on with it
49:01it was your time that's my time ray leonard i don't got too much talk for you you're going to fight
49:06and now let's stay retired all right well we know you'll do the talking for both of them let's
49:10take a look at the knockdown and in the fourth round uh this as we commented is a very tough young
49:16guy no he was definitely tough he kept coming so i took my time because i figured you know all
49:20i had to do is him with a clean shot you know and the referee was going to stop it himself or he
49:24was just really going down himself like he did right there now it looked like after the eighth round
49:29with his eyes swollen and his nose bleeding you might not let him come out what were your thoughts
49:33at that point i was helping you just stay sitting down because i was just going to get sharper and
49:38sharper you know when it comes into the six or eight round those are my best rounds you know because
49:42i'm seasoned i've been professionally for 15 years you know finding better quality fighters you know
49:48and going through walls and when you go over the wall against chavez the way i did took all his
49:52kitchen and knifes and forks you know i mean it's nothing this guy could do to me either well let's take a
49:57look at how it's ended here in the ninth round gill clancy was impressed with your speed in addition
50:02to your newfound power and your stamina certainly was here on the ninth well everything is here like
