00:00:00Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
00:00:20Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
00:00:24who was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
00:00:30Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome on this Sunday in the octave of Corpus Christi.
00:00:54Let's begin with our morning prayer, found on page B7 of your White Pew prayer books.
00:01:01Page B7.
00:01:04Blessed be the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
00:01:07who enlighten and sanctify our souls and bodies at all times.
00:01:11O Lord, open my lips.
00:01:16When you give them breath, they live. You give new life to the earth. Alleluia.
00:01:24Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord, my God, how great you are.
00:01:29You are clothed with majesty and glory. You cover yourself with light.
00:01:35You stretch out the heavens like a tent and built your home on the waters above.
00:01:40You use the clouds as your chariot and walk on the wings of the wind.
00:01:45You use the winds as your messengers and flashes of lightning as your servants.
00:01:51From heaven you send rain on the mountains, and the earth is filled with your blessings.
00:01:57You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for man to use,
00:02:02so he can grow his crops and produce wine to make him happy,
00:02:06olive oil to make him cheerful, and bread to give him strength.
00:02:11Lord, you have made so many things. How wisely you made them all.
00:02:16The earth is filled with your creatures.
00:02:18All of them depend on you to give them food when they need it.
00:02:22You give them food, and they are satisfied.
00:02:25You provide food, and they are satisfied.
00:02:28When you turn away, they are afraid.
00:02:31When you hold back your breath, they die,
00:02:33and go back to the soil they came from.
00:02:36But when you give them breath, they live.
00:02:39You give new life to the earth.
00:02:41May the glory of the Lord last forever.
00:02:44May the Lord be happy with what he made.
00:02:46I will sing to the Lord all my life.
00:02:49I will sing praises to my God as long as I live.
00:02:53Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
00:02:57As well as in the beginning, now and now, shall we, for over at the end of time.
00:03:02Let us pray.
00:03:04O God, on the first Pentecost, you instructed the hearts of those who believed in you
00:03:09by the light of the Holy Spirit.
00:03:12Under the inspiration of the same Spirit,
00:03:15give us a taste for what is right and true,
00:03:18and a continuing sense of his joy bringing presence and power.
00:03:21We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
00:03:25Amen.
00:03:26A reading from Paul's letter to the church at Galatia.
00:03:29Do not deceive yourselves.
00:03:32No one makes a fool of God.
00:03:34A man will reap exactly what he plants.
00:03:37If he plants in the field of his natural desires,
00:03:40from it he will gather the harvest of death.
00:03:43If he plants in the field of the Spirit,
00:03:45from the Spirit he will gather the harvest of eternal life.
00:03:49So let us not become tired of doing good.
00:03:52For if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.
00:03:57So then as often as we have the chance,
00:03:59we should do good to everyone,
00:04:01but especially to those who belong to our family in the faith.
00:04:06Our help comes from the Lord.
00:04:08Amen.
00:04:10Lord, have mercy.
00:04:11Lord, have mercy.
00:04:13Christ, have mercy.
00:04:14Christ, have mercy.
00:04:16Lord, have mercy.
00:04:17Lord, have mercy.
00:04:17Lord, have mercy.
00:04:19Let us once again hold up in prayer and petition
00:04:21all those who have asked for our prayers for their health
00:04:23and their healing,
00:04:25that God, the Father of mercy, through his Son, Jesus,
00:04:28may grant them the gift of healing
00:04:30and all those things that they so desire.

00:06:56Well,
00:06:56good morning,
00:06:56my dear brothers and sisters,
00:06:58and welcome again on this solemnity of Corpus Christi,
00:07:01the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
00:07:04Within this octave,
00:07:06the eight days,
00:07:07which began on Thursday.
00:07:10A few announcements.
00:07:11Please keep inviting people to join us in meeting the Lord in worship and fellowship.
00:07:17Please remember your discipline before Holy Mass to make a proper examination of conscience.
00:07:25There's a note about that in the bulletin.
00:07:27The men's retreat was truly wonderful.
00:07:30Paul and I were there.
00:07:31It was really a very,
00:07:34very deeply spiritual time,
00:07:37a time before the Blessed Sacrament,
00:07:40and a great time of worship and fellowship.
00:07:44So it was just excellent.
00:07:46Again,
00:07:47I strongly recommend it to all the men of the parish to take part in that next year.
00:07:53Please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and diacudate.
00:07:59Our T-shirts are still available.
00:08:02And thoughts and things for the future.
00:08:05One of the things that Father Jim,
00:08:07Father Dr. Jim Ploskonka,
00:08:09told me about was his course in biblical financial management.
00:08:14He's willing to come here and offer that course.
00:08:17So if you or someone you know could use really some very God-based advice and instruction in the way of managing their financial life,
00:08:29please let me know and we'll see if we have a good number of people who might want to take part in that.
00:08:36And then if we do,
00:08:38then we can set that up for them.
00:08:41A week ahead,
00:08:42a lot going on.
00:08:44Let's see,
00:08:45the 24th,
00:08:46Solemnity of St. John the Baptist,
00:08:49devotions to the Sacred Heart on Wednesday,
00:08:52the octave of Corpus Christi,
00:08:54with our Eucharistic Holy Hour for vocations on Thursday.
00:08:58Friday is the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
00:09:02Next Sunday is Word of God Sunday,
00:09:06a very special Solemnity within the life of our Holy Church.
00:09:10And then the following Monday is the Feast of St. Peter and Paul.
00:09:14So please take note of those,
00:09:16the Mass and devotion times.
00:09:18And if you are able to please make yourself present
00:09:21for at least some of those events.
00:09:26Let's see.
00:09:28There's probably something else that I was supposed to say,
00:09:33but I can't remember what it was.
00:09:35Anyway,
00:09:35let us now rise and begin our worship with song.
00:09:49At thy door I come before thee,
00:09:54thy door I come before thee,
00:09:58and I ask,
00:10:01O Lord,

00:10:03and I ask,

00:10:54in this hostess bread of heaven,
00:10:59God eternal son is given,
00:11:03God eternal son is given.
00:11:08Again, good morning,
00:11:14my dear brothers and sisters,
00:11:15and welcome on this Sunday
00:11:17in the octave of Corpus Christi,
00:11:20this eight days in the life of the church
00:11:23where we particularly focus
00:11:25on Jesus' gift of his body and blood.
00:11:29And we're going to find out today
00:11:31if Jesus was coming for supper
00:11:34to your house,
00:11:36what you might prepare for him.
00:11:39Today's holy message

00:12:04and prepare ourselves

00:17:48A reading from the book of Genesis.
00:17:53In those days, Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine.
00:18:00And being a priest of God, most high, he blessed Abram in these words.
00:18:08Blessed be Abram by God's most high, the creator of heaven and earth.
00:18:14Blessed be God, most high, who delivered your foes into your hand.
00:18:24Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
00:18:29The word of the Lord.
00:18:30Thanks be to God.
00:18:36Our responsorial psalm today is,
00:18:39You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:18:45You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:18:50The Lord said to my Lord,
00:18:54Sit at my right hand,
00:18:56Till I make your enemies your footstools.
00:19:01You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:19:04The scepter of your power,
00:19:08The Lord will stretch forth from Zion.
00:19:11Rule in the midst of your enemies.
00:19:15You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:19:20Yours is princely power in the days of your birth.
00:19:25In holy splendor,
00:19:27Before the day star,
00:19:30Like the dew,
00:19:32I have begotten you.
00:19:33You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:19:39The Lord has sworn that he will not repent.
00:19:43You are a priest forever,
00:19:45According to the order of Melchizedek.
00:19:49You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.
00:19:54The second reading,
00:19:56A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
00:20:00Brothers and sisters,
00:20:01I received from the Lord
00:20:04What I also handed on to you.
00:20:07That the Lord Jesus,
00:20:09On the night he was handed over,
00:20:12Took bread,
00:20:13And after he had given thanks,
00:20:16Broke it and said,
00:20:18This is my body,
00:20:20That is for you.
00:20:22Do this,
00:20:23In remembrance of me.
00:20:25In the same way,
00:20:27In the same way,
00:20:27Also,
00:20:28The cup.
00:20:30After supper,
00:20:31Saying,
00:20:32This cup,
00:20:33Is the new covenant,
00:20:35In my blood.
00:20:37Do this,
00:20:38As often as you drink it,
00:20:41In remembrance of me.
00:20:43For as often as you eat this bread,
00:20:47And drink the cup,
00:20:48You proclaim the death of the Lord,
00:20:52Until he comes.
00:20:54The word of the Lord.
00:20:55Thanks be to God.
00:20:57Please remain seated for the sequence.
00:21:18Laud, O Zion,
00:21:21Your salvation,
00:21:23Laud with hymns of exaltation,
00:21:26Christ your King and Shepherd true.
00:21:30Bring him all the praise you know,
00:21:32He is more than you bestow,
00:21:34Never can you reach his due.
00:21:37Special theme for glad thanksgiving
00:21:40Is the quickening and the living,
00:21:43Bread today before you set.
00:21:45From his hands of old partaken,
00:21:48As we know by faith unshaken,
00:21:51Where the twelve at supper met.
00:21:54Full and clear ring out your chanting,
00:21:57Joy nor sweetest grace be wanting,
00:22:01From your heart let praises burst.
00:22:04For today the feast is holden,
00:22:06When the institution olden,
00:22:09Of that supper was rehearsed.
00:22:12Here's the new laws,
00:22:14New oblation,
00:22:15By the new kings,
00:22:17Revelation,
00:22:18Ends the form of ancient rite.
00:22:21Now the new,
00:22:22The old effaces,
00:22:24Truth away,
00:22:25The shadow chases,
00:22:27Light dispels the gloom of night.
00:22:30What he did at supper seated,
00:22:33Christ ordained to be repeated,
00:22:35His memorial ne'er to cease.
00:22:38And his rule for guidance taking,
00:22:42Bread and wine we hollow making,
00:22:44Thus our sacrifice of peace.
00:22:47This the truth each Christian learns,
00:22:50Bread into his flesh he turns,
00:22:53To his precious blood the wine.
00:22:57Sight has failed,
00:22:58Nor thought conceives,
00:23:00But a dauntless faith believes,
00:23:02Resting on a power divine.
00:23:04Here beneath these signs are hidden,
00:23:08Priceless things to sense forbidden,
00:23:11Signs,
00:23:12Not things,
00:23:13Are all we see.
00:23:14Blood is poured,
00:23:16The flesh is broken,
00:23:18Yet in either wondrous token,
00:23:20Christ entire we know to be.
00:23:23Whoso of this food partakes,
00:23:26Does not rend the Lord,
00:23:28Nor breaks,
00:23:29Christ is whole to all that taste.
00:23:31Thousands are as one receivers,
00:23:35One as thousands of believers,
00:23:38Eats of him who cannot waste.
00:23:41Bad and good the feast are sharing,
00:23:44Of what divers dooms preparing,
00:23:47Endless death or endless life.
00:23:50Life to these,
00:23:52To those damnation,
00:23:54See how like participation,
00:23:57Is with unlike issues rife.
00:23:59When the sacrament is broken,
00:24:02Doubt not,
00:24:03But believe,
00:24:04Tis spoken,
00:24:05That each severed outward token,
00:24:08Doth the very whole contain.
00:24:11Not the precious gift divides,
00:24:14Breaking but the sign betides,
00:24:17Jesus still the same abides,
00:24:19Still unbroken does remain.
00:24:22Lo,
00:24:23The angel's food is given,
00:24:25To the pilgrim who has striven,
00:24:27See the children's bread from heaven,
00:24:30Which on dogs may not be spent.
00:24:33Truth the ancient types fulfilling,
00:24:36Isaac bound,
00:24:37A victim willing,
00:24:39Paschal lamb,
00:24:44Its lifeblood spilling,
00:24:46Manna to the Father sent,
00:24:48Very bread,
00:24:50Good shepherd tend us.
00:24:51Jesus of your love,
00:24:55Befriend us,
00:24:57You refresh us,
00:24:58You defend us,
00:25:00Your eternal goodness send us,
00:25:02In the land of life to see,
00:25:05You who all things can and know,
00:25:08Who on earth such food bestow,
00:25:11Grant us with your saints,
00:25:13Though lower,
00:25:14Where the heavenly feast you show,
00:25:16Fellow heirs and guests to be.
00:25:19Amen,

00:26:37The Lord be with you.
00:26:40A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke.
00:26:44Glory be to you, O Lord.
00:26:46Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God,
00:26:52and he healed those who needed to be cured.
00:26:56As the day was drawing to a close,
00:26:58the twelve approached him and said,
00:27:01Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding villages and farms
00:27:06and find lodging and provisions,
00:27:09for we are in a deserted place here.
00:27:12He said to them, Give them some food yourselves.
00:27:16They replied, Five loaves and two fishes are all we have,
00:27:21unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.
00:27:26Now the men there numbered about five thousand.
00:27:30Then he said to his disciples, Have them sit down in groups of fifty.
00:27:34They did so and made them all sit down.
00:27:38Then taking the five loaves and the two fishes,
00:27:42he looked up to heaven.
00:27:43He said the blessing over them, broke them,
00:27:46and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
00:27:50They all ate and were satisfied.
00:27:54And when the leftover fragments were picked up,
00:27:57they filled twelve wicker baskets.
00:28:00This is the gospel of the Lord.
00:28:05Praise be to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.
00:28:08Jesus Christ.
00:28:15Amen.
00:28:16Amen.
00:28:17Amen.
00:28:19Amen.
00:28:26Amen.
00:28:28Amen.
00:28:29Amen.
00:28:34Amen.
00:28:35Amen.
00:28:35Amen.
00:29:06I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,
00:29:32that Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread,
00:29:38and after he had given thanks, broke it and said,
00:29:42This is my body, which is for you.
00:29:45Do this in remembrance of me.
00:29:48In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
00:29:51Amen.
00:29:52And my dear brothers and sisters, let's talk about food.
00:29:57Remember the Zibi I made last week?
00:30:00That was really good, right?
00:30:02We love food, don't we, in this parish?
00:30:05We love to share in food.
00:30:08Part of our heritage.
00:30:10Part of who we are as a people.
00:30:12It's just because we live our faith in very tangible ways.
00:30:19We make our faith real by sharing with each other.
00:30:24We love to carry food into our community,
00:30:28through our food pantry,
00:30:30and through our collections of food at various times throughout the year,
00:30:35which we hand over and give to those who are so much in need.
00:30:42There's also our food center and fundraising.
00:30:45Who can't resist coming for a Polish dinner
00:30:49and get some pierogis or galonkis or whatever we might offer?
00:30:54Soup, goulash, ice, it's all good.
00:30:58And you know what's amazing about it?
00:31:00It's that when we work together to prepare food for people,
00:31:06no one is there looking like this.
00:31:09No one is there looking like me being here.
00:31:12No, we enjoy each other's company
00:31:15because we're making food for people.
00:31:18When people come to greet us and partake in that food,
00:31:23we greet them with a smile on our faces.
00:31:26We're like, welcome, have some food.
00:31:30I mean, it's wonderful.
00:31:33It's great stuff.
00:31:36When we have guests over at our home,
00:31:38would anyone here open a can of hash
00:31:44and put a side of cheese wings up there on the table?
00:31:50Now, don't get me wrong.
00:31:52I actually like cheese wings.
00:31:54Now, if I'm coming over, you can have cheese wings.
00:31:57That's going to be great for me.
00:31:59It's no problem at all.
00:32:01No, we pull out all the stocks.
00:32:04We spend the money.
00:32:06We get the good stock.
00:32:09And we work very hard to prepare it,
00:32:12to green our guests,
00:32:13and to share in the food we have to offer.
00:32:16We spend the extra money that's needed.
00:32:24And then we hear those words.
00:32:26Boy, they went over the top preparing food for us.
00:32:30They really pulled out all the stocks.
00:32:33Take a moment.
00:32:39Reflect on those times in your lives
00:32:42where someone's been over to the house
00:32:45and has partaken of what you have prepared.
00:32:49Picture the looks on their faces.
00:32:51Picture the way they really dug in to that food.
00:33:03We could call it joy.
00:33:04We could call it pure pleasure.
00:33:07We could call it happiness.
00:33:10Now, this happens every Thanksgiving.
00:33:12I prepare Thanksgiving dinner for our family,
00:33:16for Renee and my family.
00:33:18And everybody comes over, and it's a great time.
00:33:20And at the end of the meal,
00:33:23my father-in-law always says to me,
00:33:25you can cook for me any time.
00:33:29I love hearing that, right?
00:33:32Because he enjoyed it.
00:33:34He appreciated it.
00:33:36And it made him happy.
00:33:39Thinking of all these things,
00:33:41that food that we prepare, our fellowship,
00:33:44let's ask,
00:33:45what would we feed Jesus
00:33:47if he was coming over?
00:33:49What would we prepare for Jesus?
00:33:55One of the best places to start
00:33:57is to gain an appreciation
00:33:59for what Jesus actually ate and drank.
00:34:03What did Jesus eat and drink
00:34:05on a daily basis?
00:34:06When we read through Scripture,
00:34:10we tend to place a lot of emphasis
00:34:12on our own perceptions, right?
00:34:14We think of, well,
00:34:15if I go to the supermarket,
00:34:16I can get this,
00:34:17and I can get that,
00:34:18and that's kind of what Jesus had.
00:34:20Jesus liked bread.
00:34:21Jesus liked grain.
00:34:23Jesus liked figs.
00:34:24I'd go with a hamper
00:34:25and get some of that stuff.
00:34:28It's not what Jesus ate.
00:34:30Right?
00:34:30That's from our own perception of things,
00:34:32but that's not what Jesus actually ate.
00:34:40First, we have to consider
00:34:41what was available
00:34:42at Jesus' time in Israel.
00:34:46God made promises to Israel
00:34:49about his provision for them.
00:34:54The land would yield the following.
00:35:01Seven things.
00:35:03Seven essential foods.
00:35:05Wheat, barley, grapes,
00:35:09figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates.
00:35:15In Deuteronomy 8, 7 and 8,
00:35:17we read the following.
00:35:19For the Lord that God bringeth thee
00:35:20into a good land,
00:35:22a land of brooks of water,
00:35:24of fountains and dust,
00:35:26spring forth in valleys and hills,
00:35:29a land of wheat and barley,
00:35:32and vines and fig trees,
00:35:34and pomegranates,
00:35:36a land of olive trees,
00:35:38and honey.
00:35:40Some of these were regular part
00:35:41of Jesus' diet.
00:35:44But not all of them.
00:35:46Not all of them.
00:35:47Now, itinerant creatures like Jesus
00:35:51were not rich people.
00:35:53Right?
00:35:53They were poor.
00:35:55And they couldn't afford certain things.
00:35:59Jesus' diet was at the bottom
00:36:01of the economic ladder.
00:36:04Right?
00:36:05The foods Jesus ate
00:36:06were things that were produced locally
00:36:09with really farm-to-table
00:36:12for Jesus.
00:36:14Right?
00:36:15We all hear about that.
00:36:15Oh, yeah, look.
00:36:16Farm-to-table food, right?
00:36:18Well, that's what Jesus ate.
00:36:21The poor only ate barley bread.
00:36:25Why is that?
00:36:26Well, wheat, as you can imagine,
00:36:28like we have today,
00:36:29can be ground very fine.
00:36:31Right?
00:36:32They're going to date
00:36:32into a really nice bread.
00:36:35Barley can't.
00:36:36Barley is coarse and raw.
00:36:39So the poor, like Jesus,
00:36:42ate primarily barley bread.
00:36:45Not buying wheat flour at all.
00:36:48We see this
00:36:49as Jesus' miraculous feeding
00:36:51as accounted for
00:36:53in the Gospel of St. John.
00:36:55There is a boy here
00:36:57who has five loaves
00:36:59of barley bread
00:37:00and two fish with him.
00:37:04Most ordinary people
00:37:05in Jesus' time
00:37:06got about 70%
00:37:08of their calories
00:37:10from bread.
00:37:13Barley bread.
00:37:15Rough barley bread.
00:37:18Bread was essential.
00:37:20Bread was important.
00:37:21Bread nourished
00:37:22and fed the people.
00:37:25Let them do their work.
00:37:27And because bread
00:37:28was so important
00:37:29and resonated so much
00:37:31with everyone,
00:37:32when Jesus taught us
00:37:34to pray,
00:37:35he said the following.
00:37:38Give us our necessary bread
00:37:40today.
00:37:43Now, while there was
00:37:44bee honey in Israel,
00:37:46because we've heard
00:37:47the seven species of food,
00:37:49right?
00:37:50While there was
00:37:51bee honey in Israel,
00:37:52again,
00:37:53extensive.
00:37:54That was the stuff
00:37:55for the rituals.
00:37:56They got bee honey.
00:37:58The honey that Jesus
00:38:00would eat,
00:38:00that Jesus would have,
00:38:02was not made
00:38:03from bee honey.
00:38:05Rather,
00:38:05the honey that he would eat
00:38:07was made
00:38:07from figs.
00:38:09The figs were pressed
00:38:10and crushed
00:38:11and turned into
00:38:12a sort of honey.
00:38:15Grapes produced
00:38:16juice and wine.
00:38:18Olives gave
00:38:19every form
00:38:20of olive oil.
00:38:21The very best,
00:38:23the very best
00:38:24olive oil
00:38:25was used
00:38:26for the candles
00:38:27of the altar
00:38:28in the temple.
00:38:30It was also used
00:38:31for healing
00:38:32and for the production
00:38:35of food.
00:38:36We hear
00:38:37in Luke 10,
00:38:3834,
00:38:39and he came
00:38:41and bowed
00:38:41his womb
00:38:42and poured
00:38:44wine
00:38:44and oil
00:38:47down.
00:38:49And he set
00:38:49him on his donkey
00:38:50and took him
00:38:52to an inn
00:38:52and cared for him.
00:38:55The lowliest
00:38:56of oils
00:38:57were used
00:38:57to light the lamps
00:38:58in your own home.
00:39:00Jesus certainly
00:39:07enjoyed fish.
00:39:09He doesn't like
00:39:09what he's going to speak
00:39:10about, right?
00:39:11Jesus enjoyed fish.
00:39:12Jesus set up
00:39:13his headquarters
00:39:14in Galilee,
00:39:17along the Sea
00:39:17of Galilee
00:39:18in the town
00:39:19of Capernaum.
00:39:23Even after
00:39:24his resurrection,
00:39:25Jesus provided
00:39:26fish
00:39:27for his apostles.
00:39:28we read
00:39:30in John 21,
00:39:32but when they
00:39:32came up
00:39:33to the land,
00:39:35they saw
00:39:35burning poles
00:39:36which had been set
00:39:37and fish
00:39:39were lying
00:39:39on them
00:39:40and bread.
00:39:42As far as
00:39:43other meat,
00:39:44protein sources,
00:39:46forget about it.
00:39:47Jesus and
00:39:48his apostles
00:39:49and disciples,
00:39:50they couldn't
00:39:51afford lamb.
00:39:52They couldn't
00:39:52afford beef,
00:39:54right?
00:39:54Again,
00:39:55stuff for the
00:39:56temple,
00:39:57stuff for the
00:39:57rich folks.
00:39:58If Jesus
00:40:00got any type
00:40:01of protein
00:40:02other than
00:40:03fish,
00:40:04it was from
00:40:04beans and
00:40:05other legumes.
00:40:08Jesus used
00:40:10food as
00:40:11symbolic items
00:40:12in his teaching.
00:40:15When he taught
00:40:15people,
00:40:16he talked
00:40:17about food.
00:40:19In addressing
00:40:20the hypocrisy
00:40:21of the Pharisees,
00:40:23the scribes,
00:40:24he said the
00:40:25following,
00:40:25woe to you
00:40:27scribes and
00:40:28Pharisees,
00:40:28imposters,
00:40:30for you
00:40:30tithe mint
00:40:31and hill
00:40:32and cumin
00:40:34and you
00:40:35forsake the
00:40:35waiting things
00:40:36of the law,
00:40:38justice,
00:40:39mercy,
00:40:40and faith.
00:40:42We see
00:40:43from all this
00:40:44that Jesus
00:40:44was very well
00:40:45versed in
00:40:46food,
00:40:48that food
00:40:48was essential
00:40:49to his
00:40:50spiritual
00:40:51and physical
00:40:53nourishment
00:40:53of his
00:40:54followers.
00:40:56Food was
00:40:57key to
00:40:58Jesus'
00:40:59teaching
00:40:59and it's
00:41:01the way
00:41:02he feeds
00:41:02them.
00:41:05Finally,
00:41:06we arrive
00:41:07at the
00:41:08ultimate
00:41:08meal,
00:41:10the top-notch
00:41:11meal,
00:41:12the last
00:41:13supper,
00:41:14the thing
00:41:15we celebrate
00:41:16today in
00:41:18the octave
00:41:18of Corpus
00:41:19Christi.
00:41:21Jesus
00:41:21gathers
00:41:22with his
00:41:22disciples
00:41:23in the
00:41:23upper
00:41:24room.
00:41:26Now,
00:41:26archaeologists
00:41:27suggest that
00:41:28the following
00:41:29was on the
00:41:30table.
00:41:31This is what
00:41:31they were
00:41:31eating at
00:41:32the last
00:41:33supper.
00:41:35Bean
00:41:36stew,
00:41:38lamb,
00:41:39spasers,
00:41:41olives,
00:41:43bitter herbs,
00:41:44fish sauce,
00:41:46and unleavened
00:41:47bread made
00:41:48from wheat.
00:41:50Made from
00:41:51wheat,
00:41:52the
00:41:52expensive
00:41:53stuff.
00:41:56Dink and
00:41:58aromatized
00:41:59wine.
00:42:02The seven
00:42:02species that
00:42:03God promised
00:42:05Israel were
00:42:06on that
00:42:07table.
00:42:08And it was
00:42:09not only
00:42:10plenty of
00:42:11stuff that
00:42:11was on the
00:42:12table,
00:42:12it was the
00:42:13best stuff.
00:42:15It was the
00:42:16expensive stuff.
00:42:17it was the
00:42:19wonderful stuff
00:42:20that was on
00:42:21that table.
00:42:30In having the
00:42:31best prepared
00:42:33for his
00:42:34followers,
00:42:36Jesus
00:42:39foreshadows
00:42:40the best
00:42:40food of
00:42:41all,
00:42:42his very
00:42:42body and
00:42:43his blood,
00:42:45which is
00:42:45for us.
00:42:47Jesus
00:42:48understood
00:42:49our need
00:42:50for him.
00:42:52We need
00:42:53him.
00:42:55And our
00:42:56need for
00:42:56nourishment,
00:42:58and our
00:42:58need for
00:42:59what is
00:42:59the best.
00:43:00it's
00:43:03simple.
00:43:03It's so
00:43:04simple to
00:43:05comprehend.
00:43:07It's so
00:43:08very
00:43:09easy,
00:43:10so very
00:43:11meaningful.
00:43:15What would
00:43:16we prepare
00:43:17for Jesus?
00:43:19The best
00:43:20dinner that
00:43:21we can
00:43:21prepare for
00:43:22Jesus is
00:43:24that of
00:43:24our very
00:43:25self.
00:43:26the giving
00:43:28of our
00:43:29hearts and
00:43:30our lives
00:43:31to Jesus.
00:43:32The giving
00:43:33of all
00:43:33things to
00:43:34Jesus in
00:43:35every way.
00:43:37For as
00:43:37often as we
00:43:38eat this
00:43:38bread and
00:43:40greet this
00:43:41cup, we
00:43:42proclaim the
00:43:43death of
00:43:44him who
00:43:45came.
00:43:45he placed
00:43:50our lives,
00:43:52every part
00:43:53of our,
00:43:54our
00:43:54families,
00:43:56our work,
00:43:57our
00:43:57courage,
00:43:59our trust
00:44:00and our
00:44:00future on
00:44:01the table
00:44:02for Jesus.
00:44:05Don't
00:44:05give him
00:44:06anything
00:44:07less than
00:44:09what he
00:44:10gave up.
00:44:11In the
00:44:11name of
00:44:11the Father,
00:44:12the Son,
00:44:12and the
00:44:13Holy Spirit.
00:44:14Amen.
00:44:15Let's now
00:44:34rise and
00:44:35gather for
00:44:36us our
00:44:37faith.
00:44:38I believe
00:44:39in one
00:44:40God,
00:44:40the Father
00:44:41and the
00:44:41Almighty,

00:44:43heaven and
00:44:43earth,
00:44:44of all
00:44:45that is
00:44:45seen and
00:44:46unseen.
00:44:47I believe

00:51:17May the Lord send us the sacrifice from our hands, for the praise and glory of His name, for our good and good and good and good and good. Amen.
00:51:26Amen.
00:51:56Who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
00:52:09The Lord be with you.
00:52:12And also with you.
00:52:16Lift up your heart.
00:52:19We live in love to the Lord.
00:52:26Let us give thanks to the Lord, Lord, our God.
00:52:30In His way, to give Him, and to pray.
00:52:37Father of heart, one ever living God, we do well always and ever live to give you thanks.
00:52:44Through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
00:52:50At the last supper, as He sat at table with His apostles,
00:52:55He offered Himself to you as the spotless Lamb, the acceptable gift that gives you perfect praise.
00:53:06Christ has given us, Christ has given us this memorial of His passion, to bring us His saving power, until the end of time.
00:53:17When we receive the bread of heaven, when we receive the bread of heaven, we are nourished and strengthened by our Lord, to live in holiness and righteousness.
00:53:28We come then to your table, to be fed this wonderful sacrament, and grow into the likeness of the risen Christ.
00:53:42Therefore, the angels and our angels, with all the saints in the entire church, we let them have a praise to your glory, repeating unceasingly.
00:53:56For His holy day, to have mercy on Him, to live in holiness and strength and harmony, and to have mercy on his salvation, and to have mercy on hiselibey.
00:54:12Today's Eucharistic prayer will be the U-Truck cabin on page 92.
00:54:39Please kneel.
00:54:42Blessed are you, God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Father of mercy and God of all
00:54:55consolation.
00:54:56For you love the world so much that you gave your only begotten Son that whoever believes
00:55:02in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
00:55:06He then established the last memorial of your salvation on the evening in which He willingly
00:55:13surrendered Himself.
00:55:17He took bread, gave you thanks, blessed it, and broke it, saying, Take this, all of you,
00:55:28and eat it, for this is my body, which is given for you.
00:55:34When supper had ended, He took the cup in the same way He gave you thanks, blessed it, saying,
00:55:58Take this, all of you, and bring it from it, for this is the cup of my blood, the blood
00:56:06of the new and everlasting covenant, which shall be shed for you and for many for the forgiveness
00:56:12of sins.
00:56:13As often as you do this, do it in remembrance of me.
00:56:17So recall before you, Father, the incarnation of your Son, His words and deeds, how you humbled
00:56:37Himself, and obediently accepted death, even death on a cross.
00:56:41Therefore, you have raised Him up, and given Him a name which is above every name, that in
00:56:47heaven and under the earth, every knee shall bow, and every tongue proclaim to the glory
00:56:52of God the Father, Jesus Christ, His Lord.
00:56:57We offer this sacrifice of your Son before you, Father, with praise and thanksgiving, and ask
00:57:02that you accept this oblation, send your Holy Spirit, and fill these gifts with His life-giving
00:57:11power, that they may be for us the body and blood of your dearly beloved Son, that the bread
00:57:18which we break may be the body of our Lord, and the cup over which we give thanks may be
00:57:25one with the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
00:57:28In the company of Mary, the mother of God, with your apostles and martyrs, with Holy Willow
00:57:34Lord, and all the saints, we are with Anthony, our prime bishop and bishop, with all bishop,
00:57:40priests, and deacons, as well as your whole church, we praise and glorify you, and look
00:57:46forward to the coming of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
00:57:50Father, through Him, with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory
00:58:02are yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever.
00:58:09Amen.
00:58:10Amen.
00:58:10Let us prize and feel confidence to the Father, in the words of Savior, O God.
00:58:22Father, Father, who art in heaven,
00:58:30For all of them be your name,
00:58:34Thy kingdom come,
00:58:38Thy will be not on earth,
00:58:44As it is in heaven,
00:58:49Give us this day our daily bread,
00:58:57And forgive us our just and sins,
00:59:02As we forgive those who trust against us,
00:59:10And lead us not into temptation,
00:59:15But deliver us from evil.
00:59:23Deliver us, Lord, from every evil,
00:59:25And grant us peace in our hand.
00:59:28In your mercy keep us free from sin,
00:59:31And protect us from all anxiety,
00:59:35As we wait in joyful hope
00:59:36For the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.
00:59:40The cup of blessing, which we bless,
00:59:58Is it not the participation in the blood of Christ?
01:00:01The bread, which we break,
01:00:05Is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
01:00:09The blood of Christ is on earth,
01:00:12We who are many in our one body,
01:00:15For we all are faithful to the Lord on earth.
01:00:18The need of divinity and humanity in Jesus Christ,
01:00:21Bring us sanctification and eternal life.
01:00:24Amen.
01:00:25Lord Jesus Christ, who sent your apostles,
01:00:28That they do peace, my peace I give you.
01:00:30Do not look at our sin,
01:00:32But on the faith of your church,
01:00:33And grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom,
01:00:37Where you live forever and ever.
01:00:39Amen.
01:00:41The peace of the Lord be with you always.
01:00:44And also with you.
01:00:45Let us offer each other a sign of Christ's peace.
