04:02Good afternoon, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome on the solemnity of the ascension of our Lord.
04:08On this day, we gaze into heaven looking forward, not backward, to the promise of what is to come for us.
04:18And we resolve to do here on earth all those things that bring us into Christ's heavenly kingdom.
04:27Today's Holy Mass is offered for all of our parishioners, all of our members, all those who find their home of faith here with us at Holy Name of Jesus.
04:35Today's Holy Mass and the Contemporary Rite, found on page 63.
04:41In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
04:44Lord, bless us with the wisdom to praise you in spirit and in truth, so that by following your holy will, we may gain eternal salvation.
04:54My dear brothers and sisters, let us now pause to confess our sins to God and prepare ourselves so that we may worthily participate in this holy sacrifice.
05:05Have we called our sinfulness in seeking reconciliation with God and each other?
05:27Let us now recite the second form of the Confidier.
05:31I confess to Almighty God, in the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,
05:39that I have sinned through my own fault in my thoughts, in my words, in what I have done or failed to do.
05:47I ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
05:55As an act of penance for our sinfulness, let us, this evening, offer up in our Father, thanking God for the promises His Son Jesus has given us,
06:07and giving us the grace and the strength to do His will here on earth.
06:12May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
06:18May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you with His authority vested in me.
06:21I absolve you from all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
06:51As He blessed them, He parted from them, and was taken up to heaven. Alleluia.
07:01They did Him homage, and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
07:06and they were continually in the temple, praising God. Alleluia.
07:11Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
07:15as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
07:24Kyrie eleison.
07:27Christe eleison.
07:30Kyrie eleison.
07:34Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth.
07:38Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
07:47Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
07:56You are seated at the right hand of the Father, receive our prayer.
08:00For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
08:14The Lord be with you.
08:17Let us pray.
08:22Lord Jesus Christ, you went to the Father to prepare a place for us.
08:28Grant that we both live in union with you here on earth, and hereafter enjoy the fullness of your presence.
08:36For you live and reign with the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
08:48Let us now be seated and attentive to the Lord's Word.
08:58Our first reading for this Solemnity of the Ascension is taken from the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles.
09:07In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up,
09:15after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
09:21He presented himself alive to them, and by many proofs, after he had suffered,
09:28appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
09:33While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem,
09:38but to wait for the promise of the Father, about which you have heard me speak.
09:42For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
09:49When they had gathered together, they asked him,
09:53Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?
09:58He answered them,
09:59It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority,
10:06but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,
10:10and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria,
10:15and to the ends of the earth.
10:17When he had said this, as they were looking on,
10:21he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.
10:25While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going,
10:29suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them.
10:34They said,
10:35Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky?
10:39This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.
10:48This is the word of the Lord.
10:50Thanks be to God.
10:52Our responsorial psalm,
10:54God mounts his throne to shouts of joy,
10:57a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
11:00God mounts his throne to shouts of joy,
11:03a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
11:06All you peoples, clap your hands,
11:09shout to God with cries of gladness,
11:12for the Lord, the Most High, the Awesome,
11:14is the Great King over all the earth.
11:17God mounts his throne to shouts of joy,
11:21a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
11:24God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy,
11:27the Lord amid trumpet blasts.
11:30Sing praise to God, sing praise.
11:33Sing praise to our King, sing praise.
11:37God mounts his throne to shouts of joy,
11:40a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
11:42For King of all the earth is God,
11:45sing hymns of praise.
11:47God reigns over the nations.
11:50God sits upon his holy throne.
11:53God mounts his throne to shouts of joy,
11:56a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
11:59Our epistle for this solemnity
12:01is taken from the letter of St. Paul
12:03to the Ephesians, brothers and sisters.
12:07May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
12:09the Father of glory,
12:11give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation
12:14resulting in knowledge of him.
12:16May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened
12:19that you may know what is the hope
12:21that belongs to his call,
12:23what are the riches of glory
12:25in his inheritance among the holy ones,
12:29and what is the surpassing greatness of his power
12:32for us who believe in accord with the exercise
12:37of his great might,
12:39which he worked in Christ,
12:40raising him from the dead
12:42and seating him at his right hand in the heavens,
12:45far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion,
12:49and every name that is named,
12:52not only in this age,
12:53but also in the one to come.
12:55And he put all things beneath his feet
12:58and gave him as head over all things
13:00to the church,
13:01which is his body,
13:03the fullness of the one
13:05who fills all things in every way.
13:07This is the word of the Lord.
13:10Thanks be to God.
13:12Please rise.
13:13Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
13:16God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy,
13:22the Lord amid trumpet blasts.
13:26Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
13:46May the Lord be in my heart and on my lips
13:52and we willy proclaim his holy gospel
13:54through Jesus Christ our Lord.
13:56Amen.
13:59The Lord be with you.
14:01A reading from the conclusion of the holy gospel
14:05according to St. Luke.
14:07Glory be to you, O Lord.
14:09Jesus said to his disciples,
14:13Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer
14:15and rise from the dead on the third day
14:18and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins
14:21would be preached in his name
14:23to all the nations beginning from Jerusalem.
14:28You are witnesses of these things.
14:31And behold, I am sending the promise
14:32of my Father upon you,
14:34but stay in the city
14:35until you are clothed with the power from on high.
14:39Then he led them out as far as Bethany,
14:42raised his hands and blessed them.
14:44As he blessed them,
14:46he parted from them
14:47and was taken up to heaven.
14:50They did him homage
14:51and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
14:54And they were continually in the temple
14:56praising God.
14:58This is the gospel of the Lord.
15:02Praise be to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.
15:05Please be seated for a moment.
15:13Come, Holy Spirit,
15:14and kindle the hearts of thy faith
15:15with the fire of thy love.
15:26You are witnesses of these things.
15:30In the name of the Father,
15:30and of the Son,
15:31and of the Holy Spirit.
15:32Amen.
15:33My dear brothers and sisters,
15:36I greet you in the name of our risen
15:37and ascended Lord and Savior,
15:40Jesus Christ.
15:41As I've indicated to you on this past Sunday,
15:46after the homily,
15:47we'll be removing the symbols
15:49of the resurrection
15:50from the altar space,
15:53keeping in mind that,
15:54just like the apostles
15:56could no longer physically see Jesus,
15:59we will no longer be able to see him
16:02in those symbols of the resurrection.
16:05What's key to that is
16:06what we do with that information.
16:11Jesus is indeed taken up to heaven,
16:13and in that we see the promise
16:16of where we are to live one day.
16:19We are commissioned,
16:22as Jesus says here,
16:24through the power of the Holy Spirit
16:27given to us from on high
16:29to build the kingdom of God
16:31right here and right now,
16:34to be active participants
16:35in kingdom building,
16:37and to do the work
16:39that Jesus has asked us to do
16:41through his many teachings,
16:45through his gospel message.
16:46So there's a two-fold effect here.
16:51One is that we can look up to heaven
16:53with hope for the promise
16:56that awaits us,
16:57for the resurrection of our bodies
16:59as Christ was raised from the dead,
17:02and for the glory of the heavenly kingdom
17:04to come.
17:07But we are not to keep
17:08just looking up at the sky
17:09or gazing off in the distance.
17:12We are to make effective
17:14the words and gospel
17:15of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
17:18The apostles returned to Jerusalem
17:20with great joy.
17:22They were in the temple
17:23praising God,
17:24worshiping him,
17:27doing Christ's homage.
17:30And then,
17:31with the commissioning
17:32and power of the Holy Spirit,
17:34which we will experience
17:35in ten more days
17:37on the solemnity of Pentecost,
17:40they set out
17:41to change the whole world.
17:43This was not just something
17:45for them,
17:46for those apostles
17:47that saw Christ
17:49ascend into heaven,
17:50that saw his resurrected body,
17:53but it was
17:54that that resurrected body
17:56remained in their hearts
17:58and in their minds
17:59as a living memory
18:01of what was to come
18:03and what they were to do.
18:05So as we set forth
18:08from this worship today,
18:10let us keep in mind
18:12what is to come,
18:13the promise of Christ,
18:15and what we are to do
18:16each and every day
18:17as his disciples
18:19in this world.
18:21In the name of the Father,
18:22and of the Son,
18:23and of the Holy Spirit.
18:24Amen.
18:25With that,
18:26my dear brothers and sisters,
18:27if you could assist me
18:29in removing the symbols
18:30of the resurrection.
18:31This one's not too bad.
18:58Why don't you go down
18:59and then I'll hand it to you
19:01to be easier.
19:03It's a little heavy,
19:04but you got it okay?
19:06Just be careful of the wax.
19:29My dear brothers and sisters,
19:58let's now rise and together
20:00profess our faith.
20:02I believe in one God,
20:04the Father,
20:05the Almighty,
20:06maker of heaven and earth,
20:08of all that is seen
20:09and unseen.
20:10I believe in one Lord,
20:12Jesus Christ,
20:13the only Son of God,
20:15eternally begotten
20:16of the Father,
20:17God from God,
20:18light from light,
20:19true God from true God,
20:21begotten,
20:22not made,
20:22of one being
20:23with the Father.
20:25Through him
20:25all things are made
20:26for us
20:27and for our salvation.
20:29He came down
20:30from heaven
20:30by the power
20:31of the Holy Spirit.
20:33He was born
20:33of the Virgin Mary
20:35and became man.
20:39For our sake,
20:40he was crucified
20:40under Pontius Pilate.
20:42He suffered death
20:43and was buried.
20:45On the third day,
20:46he rose again
20:47in fulfillment
20:48of the scriptures.
20:49He ascended
20:50into heaven
20:51and is seated
20:52at the right hand
20:53of the Father.
20:54He will come again
20:55in glory
20:55to judge the living
20:56and the dead
20:57and his kingdom
20:58will have no end.
21:00I believe
21:01in the Holy Spirit,
21:02the Lord
21:03and giver of life
21:04who proceeds
21:05from the Father
21:06with the Father
21:07and the Son.
21:08He is worshipped
21:09and glorified.
21:10He has spoken
21:11through the prophets.
21:13I believe
21:13in one holy,
21:15catholic,
21:15and apostolic church.
21:17I acknowledge
21:17one baptism
21:18for the forgiveness
21:19of sins.
21:20I look for
21:21the resurrection
21:21of the dead
21:22and the life
21:23of the world
21:24to come.
21:25Amen.
21:28The Lord
21:28be with you.
21:30Please be seated.
21:32Let us pray.
21:38I am going
21:39to the Father
21:40for the Father
21:41is greater than I.
21:43Alleluia.
21:51Blessed are you,

22:12has given

22:13have made
22:14and become for us
22:15the bread
22:16of life.

22:48Lord God
22:48of all creation.
22:49Through goodness
22:50we have this wine
22:51to offer.
22:52Fruit of the vine
22:52and work of human hands
22:54may become
22:55our spiritual drink.
23:05Lord God,
23:05we ask you to receive us

26:23and sisters
26:23for whom we now pray.
26:26And especially on this day,
26:27we remember before you
26:28all of our parishioners,
26:29all of our members,
26:31all those who find
26:32their home of faith
26:33here with us
26:34at Holy Name of Jesus
26:35in Schenectady,
26:37as well as all
26:38of their loved ones.
26:41Remember all of us
26:42who are present here,
26:43who truly believe
26:44and are devoted to you.
26:46We offer this sacrifice
26:47of praise to you,
26:48our living,
26:48eternal,
26:49and true God
26:50for ourselves
26:50and all those we love
26:52for the redemption
26:53of our souls
26:54with hope
26:55for our salvation.
26:56Together with the whole church,
26:58we honor the Virgin Mary,
26:59the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27:01We also honor
27:02the apostles and martyrs,
27:04as well as all those
27:05who have lived and died
27:06confessing your name.
27:08Remembering them,
27:09we desire to follow
27:10their example
27:10and so gain
27:12your love
27:12and help.
27:14Father,
27:14accept this offering
27:15from your whole family.
27:17Grant us your peace
27:18in this life.
27:19Preserve us
27:20from spiritual damnation
27:22and count us
27:23among your chosen people.
27:26Bless,
27:27accept,
27:27and approve
27:28this offering
27:28we now make to you
27:29and let it be pleasing to you.
27:32Fill it with the power
27:33of your Holy Spirit
27:34and let it become for us
27:36the body and the blood
27:37of your Son,
27:38our Lord Jesus Christ.
27:41The day before
27:42he suffered and died,
27:43our Lord desired
27:44to make his love
27:45known to his disciples
27:47as well as all
27:48who would follow him.
27:49He therefore instituted
27:51these sacred mysteries
27:52by which he joined himself
27:54with them spiritually
27:55and bodily
27:56in his whole being
27:57and abides with us
27:59forever.
28:00At that moment,
28:02so sacred
28:03for all of humanity,
28:05Jesus took bread
28:06into his holy hands
28:07and looking up to heaven,
28:09to you,
28:10his almighty Father,
28:11he gave you thanks.
28:13He blessed the bread,
28:15broke it,
28:15and gave it to his disciples
28:17saying,
28:17Take this,
28:19all of you,
28:20and eat it,
28:21for this is my body,
28:23which is given
28:24for you.
28:25When supper had ended,
28:41he took the cup.
28:43In the same way,
28:44he gave you thanks,
28:46blessed it,
28:47and gave it to his disciples
28:48saying,
28:49Take this,
28:51all of you,
28:51and drink from it,
28:53for this is the cup
28:54of my blood,
28:55the blood of the new
28:56and everlasting covenant,
28:58which shall be shed
28:59for you and for many
29:00for the forgiveness
29:01of sins.
29:03As often as you do this,
29:05do it in remembrance
29:06of me.
29:06Father,
29:23in celebration of the memory
29:24of Jesus Christ,
29:25your son,
29:26we,
29:26your people,
29:27recall his passion,
29:28resurrection from the dead,
29:30and ascension into glory.
29:32For the many gifts
29:33you have given us,
29:34we offer you this pure,
29:35holy,
29:35and spotless offering,
29:37the holy bread of life,
29:38and the holy cup
29:39of eternal salvation.
29:41Look favorably
29:42on these offerings
29:43and accept them
29:44as you once accepted
29:45the gifts of your servant,
29:46Abel,
29:47the sacrifice of our father,
29:48in faith,
29:49Abraham,
29:50and the bread and wine
29:51offered by your priest,
29:53Melchizedek.
29:54In humility,
29:55we ask,
29:56Father,
29:56that these offerings
29:57be carried by your angel
29:58to your high altar
29:59in heaven
30:00so that we
30:01who receive
30:02the sacred body
30:03and blood
30:04of your son
30:04from this altar
30:05may be filled
30:06with your grace
30:08and blessing.
30:10Remember,
30:10Lord,
30:11our brothers and sisters
30:12who have died
30:12and have gone before us
30:14marked with the sign
30:15of faith.
30:16We especially remember
30:17all of the departed
30:18of Holy Name of Jesus,
30:19Good Shepherd,
30:20and St. Joseph's parishes,
30:22all those interred
30:23in Holy Name of Jesus
30:24and Good Shepherd's cemeteries,
30:26as well as all of our
30:27departed loved ones
30:29and benefactors.
30:31May these and all
30:32who rest in Christ
30:33find happiness,
30:34light,
30:35and peace.
30:36And we who trust
30:37in your love
30:37also ask to be included
30:39in the fellowship
30:40of your holy apostles,
30:41martyrs,
30:41and saints
30:42who offered their lives
30:43to you.
30:44They were filled
30:45with your justice
30:46and mercy
30:47because they lived
30:48in accord
30:48with the teachings
30:49of Jesus
30:50gained eternal joy.
30:52Count us among them,
30:53Father,
30:54not because of what
30:55we truly deserve,
30:56but because you are
30:57willing to forgive us.
30:59We ask this in the name
31:00of your Son,
31:01Jesus Christ,
31:02by whom you give us
31:04all these gifts.
31:05You fill them with life
31:06and goodness.
31:07You bless them
31:08and make them holy.
31:13Through him,
31:14with him,
31:14and in him,
31:15in the unity
31:16of the Holy Spirit,
31:18all honor and glory
31:18are yours,
31:19Almighty Father,
31:21forever and ever.
31:23Amen.
31:25Let us now pray
31:30with confidence
31:30to the Father
31:31in the words
31:32our Savior gave us.
31:34Our Father,
31:35who art in heaven,
31:37hallowed be thy name.
31:38Thy kingdom come,
31:40thy will be done
31:41on earth
31:41as it is in heaven.

32:12the power,
32:13and the glory
32:13are yours,
32:14now and forever.
32:16Amen.
32:17The cup of blessing
32:19which we bless,
32:20is it not a participation
32:21in the blood of Christ?
32:23The bread which we break.
32:27Is it not a participation
32:28in the body of Christ?
32:30Because there is one bread.
32:33We who are many
32:34are one body,
32:35for we all partake
32:36of the one bread.
32:38May the union of divinity
32:39and humanity
32:40in Jesus Christ
32:41bring us sanctification
32:42and eternal life.
