00:00With the sound of the touring cars firing up behind us and the packed banks of Brands Hatch spectators waiting in anticipation.
00:08We're all set for our climax to the touring car day here on the short circuit of Brands Hatch.
00:13Here with Paul O'Neill talking ahead of round six of the QuickFit British Touring Car Championship.
00:18So many developments during the course of the day and so many issues surrounding this race.
00:24Daryl De Leon, first of all, terrific first victory.
00:28And then he added to that by drawing down Robot and putting him on the front row of the grid.
00:32But that also puts Jake Hill on the front row as well.
00:36What a day for West Surrey Racing potentially.
00:38What a day it could be for West Surrey Racing.
00:40Like you say, you can see Jake Hill on the screen now, soft tyres.
00:44You can see how well that car's going with soft tyres.
00:46Rainford up in P3 as well.
00:49So Rainford is going to have a good time of it, hopefully too.
00:52How quick do them BMWs start?
00:55They probably, one of them at least, is going to mug Robottom unless he gets his elbows out.
01:00But the start of the BMW on the soft tyres and the hard has been unbelievable today.
01:04Yeah.
01:05And also in the favour, the temperature is just dropping a little bit.
01:08It's a few degrees cooler.
01:10The tyres aren't such a great concern.
01:12No, not at all.
01:13I think they'll go harder at it now with the soft tyre.
01:16You know, the temperature really has dropped off, hasn't it?
01:18And the cloud cover that we've got here, that will, it could make this a really, really quick race lap.
01:26So we could see that lap time drop again as you see Tom Chilton warming up his tyres.
01:30So I'm really looking forward to what goes on.
01:33Aidan Moffat in the mix again.
01:35He's had an afternoon of it as well, hasn't he?
01:37He's always in the mix somewhere.
01:39But, yeah, he obviously got into Dan Kamish before with the problem that Kamish has had.
01:44Rumours around the pit, Steve, that it could have been Kamish that actually turned the car off.
01:50But I don't want to say, unless we speak to him, that's gospel.
01:53But let's see what happens.
01:54Yeah, very unfortunate for Dan.
01:56And these things happen inside a cockpit, especially in a pressurised situation behind a safety car.
02:02Ash Sutton is in touch.
02:03He's back on row four.
02:04We've got Tom Ingram, one on row five, row six.
02:08It's like the whole day comes down to one big race that decides everything.
02:12Yeah, it's always the same, isn't it?
02:13You know, in touring cars now with the race three, you've just got to be in race three somewhere in that top ten, just taking some points.
02:23And let's not forget, Rowbottom, on pole, this is a massive opportunity for him.
02:29He needs to, you know, he's already up polled in, but he really needs to try and win this race and get his elbows out.
02:35And Rowbottom will be having that in his head because he really will want to win this race.
02:39And I'm looking forward to seeing him battling at the front with these BMs.
02:43Yeah, he's had a tough weekend because he's not been that fit.
02:46I think he's got a migraine and all that sort of thing, which in a touring car, oh my goodness, it's in the heat.
02:52But he's battled through it and he's on pole.
02:53Yeah, it's horrible when it's like that.
02:55But like Tim always says in commentary, as a driver, I've had it before that if you have got a headache, the best thing for a headache, it ain't tablets, it's adrenaline.
03:04And a British touring car, reverse grid race, and you're on pole, you will forget about that.
03:09Well, that's never worked for me, I tell you.
03:10I'll give it a try sometime.
03:13Wow, what a race we've got to look ahead to.
03:15And Jake Hill there coming onto the grid.
03:18What a chance for him.
03:20And Dan Rowbottom on pole position.
03:22There's Louis standing by.
03:24We'll have all the anticipation in a few minutes' time ahead of this final touring car race of the day.
03:29So much anticipation ahead of this final touring car race of the day here at Brands Hatch.
03:35And a check on the grid shows just exactly how interesting it's all going to be.
03:39What a mixed up front end of that reverse grid race it is.
03:44And so much talent there towards the front of the grid.
03:46Dan Rowbottom on pole position.
03:48But look at Jake Hill right alongside on row one.
03:52And Rainford and Cook, who have both been outstanding, they make up row two.
03:56Moffat and Smiley, row three.
03:58Ash Sutton, who's taken over once again as championship leader, is there with Adam Morgan.
04:03And we've got Tom Ingram, 11th.
04:04And Daryl De Leon, outstanding as our second race winner, lines up on row five.
04:11Down on the grid, making sense of it all, is Louise.
04:13Thank you, Steve.
04:16Not quite sure about the making sense of it all, but let's see how it goes.
04:19I'm starting this grid walk with Robo, who we saw on the podium last time out at Donington.
04:25But it's been a tough all day, a tough all weekend really, hasn't it?
04:28Starting with that horrible migraine yesterday.
04:30How's the fight back been going?
04:33It's been a long day.
04:35It's been a long day.
04:37Yeah, we've struggled for pace all weekend, if I'm honest.
04:39But, yeah, to end up here isn't a tragedy, is it?
04:43You know, we had a race through from 18th to P9, which was the ball that obviously got Drew out to put us here.
04:48So, we'll have to see what we can do.
04:51But for sure, we'll do the best job we can, you know?
04:53I mean, the best place to be starting.
04:55But as you say, you still haven't got the car quite where you wanted.
04:58A lot of understeer, is it, you're struggling with?
05:00Yeah, we've got a bit of understeer and we haven't been able to shake it.
05:04The guys have been working really hard from race two to three, the whole crew.
05:07So, we've done another set-up change.
05:10We seem to be forever doing set-up change at the moment.
05:12But I'm confident we've gone the right direction.
05:16The temperatures came down a little bit too.
05:19So, I think that will probably help our cause.
05:22Yeah, we've just got to see what happens.
05:23You know, obviously, Jake and Charles behind us are on a soft tyre with a BMW at Browns Hatch.
05:27It's going to be, that's going to be a mission.
05:29But we'll do the best job we can.
05:31But as you say, the temperatures have come down.
05:33How much of a help do you think that will be?
05:34Anything that will aid our rotation will for sure be a help.
05:41The track's still quite hot.
05:42You know, the track temperature's still up.
05:44But obviously, as the air comes down, the track will fall as well.
05:47So, yeah, let's delay this as long as we can and not get the show on the road quite yet.
05:52Fingers crossed you're ending up with a smile on your face.
05:54Right, let's go and have a word with Jake Hill, who, as we were hearing earlier on, has had a really good day.
06:02And, I mean, in fact, if you look, he came into this championship weekend P8 in the standings.
06:08Sorry, 6th in the standings.
06:0938 points, I think he was, off the leaders.
06:12He is now P3 in the standings and has brought that down to something like 16 points.
06:16So, all in all, it's been a great day, hasn't it, Jake?
06:20It's been a really good day, mate.
06:23Sorry.
06:24Yeah, it's been awesome.
06:25You know, absolutely loved it.
06:26We've had a still a strong race in Race 2.
06:29I think if the safety car hadn't have come out, we probably would have been a bit better.
06:32But, hey, I'll still take P8.
06:35And then, obviously, second and reverse grid draw.
06:37Not bad.
06:38I mean, that reverse grid turned out, it could have been a tiny bit better, it could have pulled you on pole.
06:42But this is really good in a car that you're just loving here.
06:46It's really giving you what you want here at Brands, isn't it?
06:48It is, yeah.
06:49I mean, huge credit to Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.
06:52They've done a fantastic job over these last two weeks to get the car in a position that enables us to fight, you know.
06:58And it's all of us.
06:59All of the BMWs have gone really well so far today.
07:03And, yeah, one to go.
07:04Let's see if we can make it two out of three.
07:07Well, it's been a historic day for the team so far.
07:09A clean sweep is very much available for you, isn't it?
07:14Yeah, absolutely, you know.
07:15And becoming the most successful touring car team in history, as in West Surrey Racing.
07:20We've won 134 races now, I believe, with Daryl winning that second one there.
07:25So, yeah, it's just been a good weekend.
07:28And it's time to finish it off.
07:30Good stuff.
07:30Right, time for a final word with a driver who, another one who, like Robo, didn't really start with a brilliant weekend.
07:38But he has managed to turn it around.
07:40And that's Aidan Moffat.
07:41He was doing so well in the practice sessions.
07:45Had a slight issue, driver issue.
07:48Binned it off in qualifying.
07:49So, was really frustrated with himself.
07:51But you've really turned your weekend around, haven't you?
07:54I mean, that last race, what, what, P20 to P8?
07:57That was a solid, solid result.
07:59And a very good chance of another even better one coming up.
08:02I've got my bloody engineer talking in my ear.
08:06What's he talking about?
08:07Tell him to be quiet.
08:09Can you not see?
08:10There's somebody else trying to talk to you here.
08:12Yeah.
08:13No, it was a brilliant race too.
08:15He enjoyed that one.
08:16It's just a shame I needed to do that, you know.
08:20What could have been, obviously, if we were up where we should have qualified.
08:24And maybe made the best of that pace in race too, like Daryl did.
08:27But a massive well done to Daryl.
08:29So, you know, Daryl's such a great lad and really, really deserved that win.
08:33Great family who work hard to go racing.
08:36So, it couldn't have happened to a nicer lad.
08:38It was great to see Daryl do it.
08:40And, yeah, we had our own fun race.
08:42But, unfortunately, I don't have a shiny trophy to take home.
08:45Well, but you do have a car that you're really feeling in tune with,
08:49that you're really enjoying driving.
08:50So, every chance of getting a good result out of this one, isn't there?
08:55Yeah, obviously, you've got Ingram now.
08:57He's got all his boost back.
08:59So, that'll be interesting.
09:00We've got another couple of teammates just in front and my dear friend Josh beside me.
09:05So, it's going to be a feisty race for you, I'm sure.
09:08But the car feels great.
09:09And we're now where I should have put myself on Saturday.
09:14But, yeah, that one's on me.
09:16All right.
09:17Well, enjoy this race.
09:18As you said, it's going to be a feisty one.
09:20It's race three in the British Touring Car Championship.
09:22Always feisty.
09:23Don't go where it's coming up after this.
09:25What a treat the spectators have had at Brands Hatch today.
09:33What a day we've had on the ITV team as well.
09:36Mainly because it's David Addison's birthday and no one has mentioned it so far.
09:40So, here's a birthday treat for you.
09:43A fantastic reverse grid race that promises so much.
09:46Happy birthday to you.
09:48And we're all set for round six.
09:50Not only that.
09:51Of the quick fit.
09:52Oh, that's for Tim, by the way.
09:53All of no expense spared, ITV Sports have collaborated to get you this, David.
10:00And I think you probably haven't got time for a speech.
10:03But I can't think there's a better way to spend your birthday than here at Brands.
10:06And in your company.
10:07Just what I need is a melting chocolate cake.
10:09Tim, you're very kind.
10:11Thank you very much.
10:12What a way to spend a birthday.
10:13Great.
10:14We are looking forward, then, to what promises to be a really interesting reverse grid race.
10:19But we have, out of contention, it seems, already, poor old Dexter Patterson, who has
10:24got a clutch issue.
10:25They hastily rebuilt the car after contact in race two with his teammate Max Hall.
10:30Clutch problems.
10:30He might be able to start from the pit lane.
10:32Now, let's just go back to race two.
10:34This, bit of pushing and shoving, was from Max Hall against Dexter Patterson.
10:38We didn't, at the time, know what had happened.
10:41Well, we now do.
10:41We've got the onboards.
10:43This is from Max Hall.
10:44Tim.
10:44Yeah.
10:45Turning into the corner.
10:46Everything looks okay.
10:47And then arrives Dexter Patterson at the front corner.
10:51And, you know, from that viewpoint, you'd think that Dexter Patterson had just sort of
10:55driven through him.
10:56But you need to see the other onboard.
10:59And this is from Dexter Patterson.
11:00He's got a tremendous run at Max Hall.
11:03Goes to the inside.
11:04Gets all the way alongside.
11:06He's aiming towards the apex.
11:09So it looks like he hasn't run wide.
11:11Obviously, Max Hall, at some point, has got to turn into the corner.
11:14But it does look very different from the two different onboards.
11:18And that's why you can never rely on just one piece of video evidence to apportion blame.
11:23And the third piece is you really need the outside camera as well.
11:27So when people moan about the decision of race officials there, you understand the problem.
11:32Yeah.
11:32You had a completely opposite view.
11:34I'm sure most viewers would agree from the two different onboards.
11:37Well, let us have a quick look at the grid then.
11:41Because it is going to be Dan Rowbottom, as you heard, lining up on pole position.
11:46Jake Hill with him at the front of the grid.
11:48And he might be hard to stop in this, given the way he's gone today.
11:50Charles Rainford's had the day of his life, I think.
11:52He is lining up third.
11:54And Josh Cook is one to watch fourth ahead of Aidan Moffat.
11:56And then Chris Smiley, sixth.
11:57He's had a good day as well, winning the Independents last time out.
12:00Seventh, Ash Sutton.
12:01Eighth on the grid is Adam Morgan, ahead of Daryl De Leon.
12:04Now a touring car winner, Ronan Pearson 10th.
12:06Then Tom Ingram, Tom Chilton are on row six.
12:09Row seven is where you find Stephen Jelley.
12:11His birthday tomorrow, better mention it.
12:13Michael Kreese alongside him.
12:14Aaron Taylor-Smith and Gordon Shedden in the two Toyotas on row eight.
12:18Then Sam Osborne and James Dawlin.
12:20You've got Nick Hamilton lining up next with Nick Halstead for company.
12:23Dan Lloyd, after the car ingested all of the grass after his big moment in the earlier race.
12:28He's on row 11 with Mikey Doble.
12:30He had a puncture, I think, after he ran over debris.
12:32Then Dan Camish, we'll come back to him in a moment.
12:35And Dexter Patterson, now starting, if he can at all, from the pit lane.
12:39Matt's all to round out the grid.
12:41So that is how they're going to line up.
12:44Now, yeah, the Dan Camish story.
12:45That's an interesting one.
12:46Yeah, I got to the bottom of it.
12:48And Dan was very honest and owned up to his own mistake.
12:51The car didn't cut out on its own.
12:53He actually switched off the ignition switch by accident when he meant to change the engine map setting for the restart.
13:02He felt the safety car lights had gone out a little bit late, caught him a little bit unawares.
13:08And in a little bit of brain fade and panic mode, he just hit the ignition button rather than adjusting the throttle map.
13:16And, of course, you can't restart the engine immediately because there's a fuel cutoff as well.
13:21So he's owned up to it.
13:23He's absolutely gutted at what he's done.
13:26He doesn't think he'd ever do a mistake the like of it again.
13:30But he's got to live with it.
13:32Here's your boost and tyres for round six.
13:34And the majority now on softs.
13:37And in terms of laps available, Dan Rowbottom and Jake Hill have the full 12-lap allocation.
13:42Charles Rainford in 11 to the 10 of Josh Cook.
13:44Nine for Aidan Moffat.
13:46And then Chris Smiley with eight.
13:50Ash Sutton, who had his 100th podium, by the way, in that earlier race.
13:53He's got seven laps.
13:54Six for Adam Morgan.
13:55Five for Daryl De Leon.
13:57And hard tyres peppered the grid.
14:00Many, though, try to get rid of those early.
14:02And then they're on the softer, faster tyre for the end of the day.
14:05Yeah, lots of cars on the soft.
14:07Predominantly at the front who have run this reverse strategy for the three races.
14:13The guys at the back, and that includes Dan Kamish,
14:16probably going to struggle to make too much progress on the hard.
14:19Although there's a fair few cars in front of Dan Kamish that he could pass.
14:23But I think we're going to have a great race.
14:26Paterson looks like he's ready to go from the pit lane.
14:28Yeah, I think once everybody is set off, they'll try and bump start the car.
14:31And it just keep moving.
14:32So once it's going, it can carry on.
14:34But well done to the Unlimited team to at least get the car on track.
14:38And they've also had to sort out Max Hall's car, because that had that damaged front right corner.
14:42So we know the cars are repaired.
14:44What the relationship is like between the drivers and whether that's been repaired, we'll get back to you.
14:48To the grid they come, then.
14:49And we are almost good to go.
14:51This is Gordon Shedden's view.
14:52It's been a tough weekend for him.
14:53Max Hall's going to start then at the rear of the grid.
14:56And our final touring car race of the day.
14:5924 laps are ahead of us.
15:01And Dan Rowbottom and Jake Hill with the full allocation of boost at the very front.
15:07And the way that Jake Hill has gone, he may well be hard to stop.
15:10But every touring car race has a tale to tell.
15:13This will be no different.
15:14Round six of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
15:16Give his go.
15:17Jake Hill launches the car off the line.
15:20He's level with the Ford Charles.
15:21Rainford makes a great start as well.
15:23But Robo is just about going to be able to hang on to the advantage.
15:26Is he?
15:27He's got the inside line.
15:28That opens the door on the outside for Jake Hill, who gets the drive around the corner.
15:31He's got his nose in front as they head up towards Druids.
15:34Rowbottom on the inside.
15:35Hill on the outside.
15:36If he can stay there, the road will come to him at Graham Hill Bend.
15:38Rainford is right with him as well.
15:40But no, Rowbottom has done it.
15:42He secures the lead into Graham Hill Bend for the first time.
15:44Well, it was an excellent start by Rowbottom to hold off those two BMWs.
15:49It looked like Jake Hill got the initial launch.
15:51But then, as they went up through the gears, Rowbottom had just enough.
15:55Look at Rainford, round the outside at Surtees, now having the inside for clearways.
16:00And Chris Fireley is up into fourth place as well.
16:02So Jake Hill having been shuttled back a little bit, remember, from second on the grid to third.
16:06Fireley is fourth, off and is fifth as they come up towards the timing line.
16:09Everybody else comes pouring through.
16:11But Rowbottom it is, who leads the way by 0.1 of a second.
16:14From Charles Rainford, who's going to dive up the inside.
16:16There's contact, Rowbottom's car gets a little bit crossed up.
16:19But Rainford elbows up, he's coming through.
16:22And so he's Chris Smiley trying to come through as well.
16:24As Rainford gets the inside line for Druids.
16:27Rowbottom is not quite going to be able to stand alongside him.
16:30So that means that Charles Rainford is in the lead.
16:32Rowbottom second.
16:33Hill, Smiley, Moffitt, then Sutton.
16:35Yeah, some great racing now.
16:37Remember, in race one, all these cars at the front were very careful on their soft tyres to look after them.
16:43I don't see a lot of looking after the tyres in this one.
16:46But it is race three.
16:47It is the BTCC.
16:49And the gloves are off.
16:50So they work their way now through the right-hander of Clark Kerr, up towards the timing line.
16:56End of lap number two.
16:57New race leader then, Charles Rainford.
16:59Whether or not there'll be anything done about that contact between him and Rowbottom, time will tell.
17:03It is Jake Hill in third place, Chris Slyly fourth, Ash Susson fifth.
17:08Then Moffitt, Cook, Ingram, Chilton and Adam Morgan tenth.
17:12Now the leading hard-tarshot car.
17:15Right, up towards Druids.
17:16This is Tom Chilton's view.
17:17Josh Cook is being shuffled back in the pack, isn't he?
17:20Yeah, Ingram has mugged him on the exit of Paddock.
17:23Got the cut back and managed to hold it on the way to Druids.
17:26I thought that move from Rainford was robust, but I didn't think it was worth a penalty.
17:32I thought it was a good touring car move.
17:34Chris Slyly's start will be investigated after the race.
17:38So it may have been out of position, but the Skewarts wants time to look at the evidence wrong and do an in-race penalty.
17:45So that's going to hang over Chris Slyly, his teammate, by the way, Dan Lloyd, still in 23rd place,
17:50finding it tough to get through the traffic as Susson and Moffitt go toe-to-toe into Paddock.
17:54And Sutton is back through on the inside line.
17:57This is Moffitt's view into the back of Susson, who just hangs on to the forward.
18:01And they make contact again, going up towards Druids, and again through Druids.
18:04Come on, Ash, there's Aidan.
18:06And he gives him a real chub there, but still the forward won't be unsettled.
18:11Well, one little tap is maybe OK, but three or four is a bit naughty, Aidan.
18:16But Sutton managed to hold him off, fortunately, in the front wheel drive car.
18:21You have to keep your foot buried on the throttle to stop it spinning.
18:24Big dive at the inside there by the Hyundai.
18:26Tom Ingram goes up the inside.
18:28So he's level now with Moffitt.
18:30This is for sixth as they come out of Clark Kerr, up towards the timing line.
18:33Sutton has gone, and Moffitt, having tried to fail to get rid of the forward,
18:36now has to go defensive, but even that's not going to work because Ingram's up the inside.
18:40Josh Cook's having a tough race.
18:42Look in the background, fighting with Tom Chilton.
18:44Ingram goes by.
18:46Ingram's through.
18:47Got that nicely done, using the boost on this lap.
18:50You can see the light flashing in the rear quarter panel.
18:55Josh Cook just about hanging on to the position over Tom Chilton.
18:59This is Moffitt's view.
19:01And the back of the Hyundai, perhaps less magnetic than the rear of the forward was.
19:06Yeah, not by much, though.
19:07He's rubbed up both the title contenders, hasn't he, as Aidan Moffitt.
19:10But he wants to get as much out of this race as he can.
19:13Through they turn, then, Sutton just ahead.
19:17Tom Ingram is next up, then.
19:18Here they come towards the line once more.
19:19Cook Fending, Moffitt's in behind them.
19:21But Charles Rayford is still in the lead by half a second.
19:25Dan Rowmotton fractionally quicker.
19:27What are we expecting Jake Hill's pace to be?
19:30He was surprisingly shuffled back on the first lap.
19:32He's now regrouping.
19:33Yeah, I think he was probably trying to look after his tyres the way he did in race one,
19:38whereas everybody else was just getting on with it.
19:40Clearly Jake has got the pace.
19:41He's sitting pretty comfortably where he is.
19:44He just didn't want to push it at the start.
19:46That may be dividend at the end, but can't fault Charles Rayford for going for it.
19:51This is a replay of the move.
19:52Late move down the inside.
19:55He gets...
19:56Well, was he level with the door pillar?
19:59I don't know.
20:00It was close.
20:01He wasn't totally alongside, but he certainly opened the door, didn't he?
20:05Yeah, he was up the kerb as well, wasn't he?
20:07Having said that, he didn't really force the move until Druids,
20:10but Dan Rowbottom did his level best to hang on in there.
20:13So, the moment in his reign for Rowbottom and Hill covered by one second.
20:17Chris Smiley fourth, but then he's got this Dan McLeod investigation post-race.
20:22In fifth place, it is now Tom Ingram who has gone past Ash Sutton.
20:26Look, so you've had a reversal there.
20:28Sutton is now therefore once again ahead of Aidan Moffat,
20:32who didn't like him the first time around.
20:33Yeah, well, I was going to say, when we saw Ingram get past Moffat,
20:38he had good pace.
20:39He was straight on to the back of Sutton and he's got past the ring.
20:42Sutton looks to be struggling.
20:44On all of the...
20:45Maybe it's...
20:46He's not using much boost, but Aidan Moffat,
20:49every time, is magnetically drawn to the back of that forward.
20:53There's extra boost for the forward,
20:54and it's the push for the BMW on occasions.
20:56For the moment, Ash has managed to break away.
20:59So this is the battle at the moment going on for sixth, seventh and eighth.
21:02Sutton, Moffat, Cook.
21:03Behind them is Chilton in ninth place.
21:06So from 22nd to the start of the day,
21:08Tom Chilton's another one who's rebuilt the weekend,
21:10but right now it's only 4.10s between Rainford and Rowbottom.
21:14As up the hill they come,
21:14and again Moffat looks for a way past the forward,
21:17gets into the back,
21:18and a driving standards flag now to Aidan Moffat.
21:20We're not being told it's the track limits, though.
21:22No, I think we could probably guess what it's for.
21:24Interesting, they've both got exactly the same amount of boost left,
21:28six laps each for Sutton and Moffat.
21:31So they can parry and riposte, as we say in fencing.
21:36Quite a wee bit.
21:37Right, up towards Clearways,
21:38you can tell that Aidan Moffat's been in a battle.
21:40Look at the front of the car next time we have the external shot.
21:43This, the view behind.
21:45Josh Cook making the run now up towards the line
21:47as Jake Hill goes for second place
21:50and moves himself up past the forward.
21:52That looked relatively easy.
21:53Yeah, it did.
21:55I don't think Robleton wanted to take that fight on, did he?
21:58Probably feels it's a bit early in the race.
22:01He may well be looking after his soft
22:03because he doesn't want the non-finish.
22:05He wants a good finish out of this points-wise.
22:07But it'll be interesting to see what happens
22:09if Hill can get back up behind Rainford
22:12because I think after race two
22:14he felt that Rainford had been a little bit aggressive with him on track
22:17and maybe not given him much room.
22:18So I'm not saying there's no love lost there
22:21but we'll see what happens.
22:22And of course, Charles Rainford desperately wants to win his first race in BTCC
22:27to follow up that podium earlier in the day.
22:29Absolutely right.
22:30But there is time on Jake Hill's side,
22:32is there not, as they come across the line
22:33because look how much has pulled over Dan Rowbottom already.
22:36He really has scarpered in the space of one lap
22:38and now it is six-tenths of a second between the top two.
22:42Fastest lap went to Ingram, actually, on lap eight.
22:45So he was the fastest man on the track.
22:47He's still got some pace.
22:49And there it is, a new lap record, 47-1.
22:53Impressive stuff, isn't it?
22:54As the lead gap continues to calm down.
22:56This is the view from Tom Chilton's car.
22:58Josh Cook just up the road ahead
22:59as they drop down to Graham Hill Bend.
23:01But Ash Sutton, with a new deference,
23:03he's a kind of cork in the bottle.
23:05He's not getting away from this train of cars.
23:07Yeah, it doesn't sit.
23:08There just isn't the pace in that Ford, is there?
23:10For some reason.
23:12There'll be some head scratch
23:13and maybe the set-up change on it
23:16hasn't worked for this race
23:19with the change from hard to soft.
23:21But it hasn't got the pace in life.
23:24Here we go with Tom Ingram.
23:31So Ingram moving himself past Smiley.
23:33That is fourth place.
23:34The two similar Hyundai's
23:36but ran out of different teams.
23:38Accelerate versus restart racing.
23:40And remember that Chris Smiley
23:41is still leading the independence battle
23:43within this race.
23:44Winner in race two earlier on.
23:45Michael Derrywall and Victor
23:46at the start of the day.
23:47Chris Smiley really feeling
23:49like he's got the right power underneath him
23:52and he's certainly doing what he wants it to do.
23:53This is Josh Cook on Aidan Moffat
23:55heading up towards Paddock.
23:57The Honda brakes late, dives by.
23:58Yeah, you could hear the engine on the rev limiter.
24:01The cars when they're using the boost
24:02are literally running out of revs
24:04on the pit straight when they use the boost.
24:07But he was able to get through.
24:09And just looking further back
24:10as Hill is now forcing Rainford
24:13into defensive driving.
24:14So that's got some work to do
24:17for the rest of the race
24:18but the distance.
24:20Look at Chilton, fourth on the road.
24:22Remember he was behind Sutton.
24:24He's 150 yards ahead of him
24:26in the space of a few laps.
24:28Yeah, Tom Ingram, fourth, absolutely flying.
24:30As you look at the BMWs then.
24:31Formation flying here.
24:33Lots of kerb taken.
24:34And that unsettles Charles Rainford
24:35just a little bit.
24:35Bounces ever so slightly wide.
24:37Flash of the headlights from Jake Hill
24:39saying, just remember who the champion here is.
24:41But Charles, racing for himself,
24:43would dearly love a race win.
24:45But I think that's going to be hard work now
24:47given just how rapidly Jake Hill is going.
24:50And also, you know,
24:51both of these guys are bringing
24:53their own sponsorship to the team.
24:55This isn't a BMW manufacturer team
24:58where they can decide on team orders.
25:00Both these guys have their own sponsors
25:02and therefore a duty to those sponsors
25:04to try and deliver the best result they can.
25:07Now you've got to go back to 2015
25:08to find the last time that WSR
25:11won all three races
25:12but with three different drivers.
25:14That year, it was Andy Prio,
25:15Sam Torloff and Rob Collard at Croft.
25:18That's what Charles Rainford
25:19in a sense is aiming for
25:20to replicate that
25:21by three of the BMW drivers
25:24having a winner piece.
25:25That's Josh Cook.
25:26He's on the back of Ash Sutton.
25:28That Ford's struggling for pace.
25:29Josh has had a tough weekend
25:30but he's able to easily stay
25:32on the back of the Focus here.
25:33Yeah, there's something not quite right
25:35with that Focus in this race for sure.
25:37Rowbottom's still holding
25:38a great third place though.
25:40He's been a bit under the weather
25:41this weekend
25:42and he certainly didn't sound
25:44super confident, did he,
25:45coming on the grid
25:46but he's got that man Ingram
25:48right up behind him now.
25:49It's only a matter of time
25:50one feels before
25:51Ingram finds his way through
25:53to yet another podium.
25:55Indeed so.
25:56Hyundai absolutely flying
25:58and in fact,
25:59if Ingram can get past
26:00Rowbottom in double quick time,
26:02he might even be able
26:02to get up with Jake Hill
26:03and that would help Rainford.
26:04So, the outcome of this race
26:06largely hinges around Ingram
26:07and how rapidly he can find a way
26:09past the Napa Racing Ford
26:11ahead of him.
26:12He goes very wide
26:13coming out of Graham Hill Bend
26:14there does Tom Ingram
26:15but he's right on the tail
26:16of Dan Rowbottom.
26:17The Kidderminster driver
26:18then heads up through Surtees
26:20and now the launch comes.
26:21Up the inside goes Ingram.
26:23There's a gap on the inside.
26:24He doesn't need a second invitation.
26:26Job done.
26:26Up to third.
26:27Yeah, lovely move.
26:28There's so much grip
26:29on that new bit of tarmac there.
26:31It's an absolute invite
26:32to dive up the inside there.
26:34It's a lovely move
26:35when you pull that off
26:35here at Brands
26:36but Rowbottom didn't put up
26:38much for fire.
26:39Here we see a replay.
26:40You turn in a little bit later
26:41so you could then turn
26:42to the right,
26:43straighten your brakes,
26:44your steering to brake
26:45in a straight line as possible
26:47but it was a really neat manoeuvre.
26:49Didn't run wide,
26:50even clipped the apex
26:51and brought up a bit of dust.
26:53So, the gap between
26:54Hill second,
26:55Ingram third
26:56is 2.6 seconds.
26:59That's the starting point now
27:00and with Hill stuck
27:01behind Charles Rainford
27:02how long is it going to take
27:04Tom Ingram to get up there?
27:05Driving standards flag
27:06for down.
27:06Rowbottom is there.
27:07Jake Hill has a cheeky look
27:08at the inside.
27:09Didn't work for him.
27:10Sits back behind
27:11Charles Rainford.
27:12Rowbottom is being warned
27:13about turn one paddock
27:15and also Graham Hillbender's
27:17turn three.
27:18Jake Hill on the attack
27:19then as they come up
27:20over the line
27:21behind them.
27:21Tom Ingram is on the boost
27:23and he wants these two
27:23to delay each other
27:24for as long as possible.
27:252.6 has become
27:272.4 second to third.
27:29Well, the good news
27:30for Rainford
27:31he may be under attack
27:32but he's got a lot more boost.
27:34He's got double the amount
27:35of laps of boost left
27:37that Hill has got.
27:38So, the longer he can
27:39stay in front
27:40he can get to a point
27:41where he can use
27:41the boost on
27:42every remaining lap.
27:44That's going to make it
27:44very difficult for Hill.
27:46True enough.
27:47And Ingram is still
27:48charging along behind.
27:50Walk up and down the paddock
27:51and everybody
27:52from other teams
27:53will tell you
27:53how fast those
27:54good days look.
27:54Well, now we'll really see
27:55what pace Ingram has got.
27:57The BMWs have looked
27:58very fleet of foot
27:58all weekend as well
27:59but Ingram in third
28:00is chipping away
28:01edging closer, closer, closer.
28:03And if he can get
28:03onto the back
28:04of Jake Hill
28:05then we'll see
28:06whether Ingram can
28:07harry the BMWs.
28:08Up they go now
28:08towards Paddock Hill Bend.
28:10Charles Radford leads
28:11the way just
28:116 tenths to the good
28:13and it's 2 seconds
28:15now back to Tom Ingram.
28:17So, 2.6, 2.4, 2.0
28:203 laps.
28:20Yeah, he's going to run out
28:22but he may not run out of time.
28:23He may not run out of time
28:24but if he keeps that
28:25rate to progress
28:26he should be okay.
28:27Ingram's got
28:284 more laps of boost
28:30than Jake Hill
28:31ahead of him.
28:32There, Tom Chilton
28:32losing out to Aidan Moffitt
28:34so, you know,
28:35Ingram's got more
28:36opportunities perhaps
28:37to use the extra boost.
28:38Chilton fights back
28:38on the inside of Moffitt
28:39brilliant fight
28:40this going on.
28:41It is for 8th place
28:42and the Hyundai now
28:44goes ahead of the
28:45how can we describe this
28:47battle scar on BMW.
28:49Yes, it's
28:49I thought your expression
28:51was dog-eared, David.
28:52Variety.
28:53Variety, this is great.
28:54I've worked on that
28:55over the winter.
28:56It's good to see you
28:57putting the hard hours
28:58there to come up
29:00with some new
29:00solutions.
29:01One of the regulation
29:02changes for this year.
29:04Change of cliché.
29:05Yes.
29:06Yes.
29:06Personally, I avoid
29:07clichés like the plague.
29:08Right, up to Druids.
29:09Rainford it is
29:10just ahead of Hill.
29:117 tenths the margin
29:12between them
29:12as Jake has to
29:13now ponder what
29:14his next move
29:14is going to be.
29:15James Dorn in there
29:16ahead of Daryl de Leon
29:17the race 2 winner.
29:18That's a change
29:19for 12th place.
29:20James Dorn in going
29:20really nicely.
29:21Still adapting
29:22from GT cars
29:23to touring cars
29:24but he's up behind
29:24Adam Morgan now.
29:25Yeah, the cars he's
29:26racing against
29:27are on the hard tyre
29:28though.
29:29Both Morgan and
29:30de Leon are on
29:31the hard tyre.
29:32So, good opportunity
29:33though for James
29:34who I spoke to
29:35down in the paddock
29:36at length earlier
29:37and he's really
29:38enjoying being back
29:40in touring cars
29:41or in the touring
29:42car paddock
29:42after years ago
29:44driving the Clios
29:45of course.
29:45But, taking some
29:46time to adapt
29:47to the front wheel
29:47drive and to
29:48the nature of
29:49the racing
29:49but really enjoying
29:51being part of
29:51the BTCC fraternity.
29:53Right, Tom Ingram
29:54in 3rd place
29:55has dropped away
29:56somewhat
29:57by 4 tenths
29:58in a second.
29:59So, as Jake Hill
30:00ups his pace
30:01and closes on
30:01Rainford
30:02Tom Ingram
30:03for the moment
30:03may have plateaued.
30:05Let us see
30:06whether he can
30:06do very much
30:07about it
30:08as the leaders
30:08go through
30:09the WSR garage
30:11looking all a bit
30:12nervous
30:12as you see
30:13in the background
30:13Sean Rainford
30:14Charles' dad.
30:15Well, they're both
30:17on the hybrid
30:17this time
30:18but Hill's only
30:20going to have
30:20one more lap
30:21after this
30:22and Charles Rainford
30:23has already
30:24got three more
30:25laps after this
30:25so I think
30:26I do think
30:27that Charles
30:28has got enough
30:28in the bag
30:30if you like
30:31both skill-wise
30:32his nerves
30:33will be jangling
30:34that is for sure.
30:36That incident
30:37the Smiley
30:37versus Rowbottom
30:38for 4th place
30:39and Dan Rowbottom
30:41did stay ahead
30:42but they've both
30:42been caught
30:43by Sutton and Cook
30:44and there's a lot
30:44of dust being kicked up
30:45there's a slow
30:46max haul
30:46on Cooper
30:47Strait
30:47as now
30:48look
30:48Smiley has
30:49another go
30:49on the inside
30:50of Rowbottom
30:51Sutton is there
30:51as well
30:52as they come
30:52out of the dust
30:53storm
30:53up towards Druid
30:54Smiley to the
30:54inside of Rowbottom
30:55he will go through
30:56but Robo's
30:57got to be careful
30:57here not to get
30:58shuffled back
30:59by Sutton
30:59and Cook
31:00yeah Sutton's
31:01going to have
31:02a little cutback
31:03on the end
31:03though he's
31:03going to be
31:03pushed to the
31:04outside
31:05going to go
31:05the long way
31:06all the way
31:07around the
31:07outside
31:08Rowbottom gave
31:08him a lot
31:09of room
31:09there
31:09and that gave
31:10Sutton the
31:11momentum
31:15where the gap
31:15may be
31:16Sutton is on
31:17the tail
31:17of Chris
31:18Smiley
31:19as they now
31:20turn their
31:20way up
31:20towards Clark
31:21Curve
31:21here comes
31:21Cook
31:22look
31:22they're on
31:22the boost
31:23you can see
31:23the green light
31:24flashing in the
31:24window
31:25as the leaders
31:25come up to
31:26the timing
31:26line
31:26you've got
31:27them
31:27coming through
31:28Chris
31:29Smiley
31:29with
31:29Sutton about
31:30to dive
31:30up the
31:31inside
31:31he goes
31:31charging up
31:32the inside
31:32line
31:33and gains
31:33the play
31:33Sutton
31:34fourth
31:34at
31:34Paddock
31:35yeah
31:35that's
31:35more like
31:36it
31:36but I
31:36think
31:37in the
31:37background

37:17checks
37:18before being
37:18released
37:19to the
37:19team
37:20where
37:20a very
37:21noisy
37:21reception
37:22awaits
37:22no doubt
37:23a winner
37:24in
37:24now
37:26a winner
37:26in
37:27British
37:27touring
37:28cars
37:28it will
37:30not be
37:30the last
37:30win
37:31I'm sure
37:31of that
37:31so much
37:34of this
37:34weekend
37:34as Charles
37:35Rainford
37:35steps out
37:36of the
37:36car to
37:36celebrate
37:37so much
37:37of this
37:38is about
37:38BMW
37:39not only
37:39the fact
37:40that the
37:40three drivers
37:41have all
37:41been in
37:41BMWs
37:42but the
37:42fact that
37:42BMW
37:43has been
37:44a different
37:45brand
37:45since what
37:45we saw
37:46at
37:46Donington
37:47Park
37:47a huge
37:47amount
37:48of effort
37:48as we've
37:48been saying
37:48this
37:49on into
37:49it
37:50three wins
37:51for BMW
37:52three different
37:52drivers
37:53and Charles
37:53Rainford celebrates
37:54as a touring
37:54car winner
37:55for the first
37:56time
37:56and he will
37:57be able to
37:58reflect on
37:59a maiden
37:59British
38:00touring car
38:00championship
38:01win
38:01after a slice
38:02of birthday
38:02birthday cake
38:03and a break
38:04reverse grid
38:13race
38:13and what
38:14a race
38:14Dan
38:14Rowbottom
38:15made the
38:15start
38:16Jake Hill
38:16got shuffled
38:17back to
38:17third
38:18as Charles
38:18Rainford
38:19forced his
38:19way past
38:20the Napa
38:20racing
38:21forward
38:21and into
38:22the lead
38:23Rainford set
38:23about stretching
38:24a lead
38:24over teammate
38:25Jake Hill
38:26who was now
38:27second
38:27Ingram was
38:28trying to get
38:29past Rowbottom
38:29for third
38:30and succeeded
38:31with ten laps
38:32to go
38:32but Hill
38:32taking a closer
38:33look at Rainford
38:34then had
38:35Ingram all over
38:36him
38:36two laps left
38:38and the two
38:38great rivals
38:39were nose to tail
38:40but it was
38:41Charles Rainford's
38:43day
38:43and it was
38:43West Surrey
38:44Racing's
38:44day
38:45what a win
38:45what a performance
38:46by the team
38:47and a debut
38:48win for the
38:49extraordinary
38:49Charles Rainford
38:50who is celebrating
38:51not only with the
38:52fans down by
38:53the Finnish area
38:54but also with
38:55Louise
38:56that's right Steve
38:57our second
38:58first time
38:59winner of the
38:59day
38:59congratulations
39:00Charles
39:01did nobody
39:02tell you
39:02it's supposed
39:02to be quite
39:03difficult to
39:03win a race
39:04in the British
39:04Surrey
39:04car championship
39:05you know
39:06what I
39:06can't put
39:06that down
39:06to me
39:07I've got
39:07to put
39:07that down
39:07to the
39:07team
39:08you know
39:08I mean
39:08I think
39:09I came
39:09out
39:09the championship
39:10before this
39:11weekend
39:11in 23rd
39:12so to
39:13then get
39:14a second
39:14a win
39:15and a seventh
39:15you know
39:16I'll take
39:16that
39:16just
39:16unbelievable
39:17weekend
39:17well do you
39:18know what
39:18I think
39:19you should
39:19take some
39:20of the
39:20credit
39:20yourself
39:20because
39:20we've
39:21seen
39:21some
39:22great
39:22driving
39:23and it's
39:23not just
39:23me
39:23saying
39:24that
39:24it's
39:24Tim Harvey
39:25praising
39:26your driving
39:26earlier on
39:27today as well
39:27well that's
39:28super kind
39:28of him
39:29he knows
39:30what he's
39:30talking about
39:30so maybe
39:31I'll give
39:31myself a bit
39:31of credit
39:32there
39:32thank you
39:32we saw
39:33Jake was
39:34up close
39:34behind you
39:35for a while
39:39the pressure
39:40is off
39:40now
39:41I can
39:41well maybe
39:42not coast
39:43to the wind
39:43but only
39:43nervous
39:44moments
39:44yeah you
39:45know when
39:45Jake got
39:45right behind
39:46me I could
39:46feel it
39:47kind of
39:47slipping away
39:47because it
39:48was struggling
39:48with balance
39:49towards the
39:49middle of the
39:49race
39:50but
39:50very nice
39:50groove
39:51a few
39:51different
39:51lines
39:52and yeah
39:53we managed
39:53to get the
39:53job done
39:54so yeah
39:54just unbelievably
39:55happy
39:55what a day
39:56it's been
39:56for BMW
39:56as well
39:57three different
39:58wins
39:58I think
39:58it's the
39:58first time
39:59in ten
39:59years
39:59the team
40:00has had
40:00three wins
40:01across the
40:02day
40:02so a special
40:03day
40:03to be part
40:04totally
40:05it just
40:06shoes
40:06exactly
40:06what Jake
40:07said
40:07what we
40:07said after
40:07race one
40:08we've got
40:08a race car
40:09on our
40:09hands
40:09and we
40:10can
40:10actually
40:10fight
40:10now
40:10so
40:11and
40:11that's
40:11just
40:12down
40:12to WSI
40:12the boys
40:13and girls
40:13of WSI
40:14have been
40:14amazing
40:14to get us
40:15from
40:15somewhere in
40:16the midfield
40:16all the way
40:17to the front
40:17in two weeks
40:18so what we
40:18can do
40:19for Snetta
40:19and I'm
40:19really excited
40:20to see
40:20well done
40:21you've got
40:21your winner's
40:22water bottle
40:22but there's
40:23a trophy
40:23to come
40:23as well
40:24so congratulations
40:24let's bring
40:25in Jake
40:27Jake
40:28I'm guessing
40:34I didn't make
40:35a good enough
40:35start
40:36normally my
40:36start's a 10
40:37out of 10
40:37and that one
40:38wasn't
40:39so I got held
40:40up a bit
40:40with Robo
40:41at the start
40:41there and
40:41Robo was
40:42pretty quick
40:43until I guess
40:44his front's
40:44just started
40:44to fall away
40:45there's quite a lot
40:46of smoke coming
40:46out from
40:46underneath his
40:47car as well
40:47I don't know
40:48if that had
40:48anything to do
40:49with it
40:49but yeah
40:51overall
40:51what a fantastic
40:52day for everyone
40:53including myself
40:54the BMW
40:55has been on fire
40:56today and
40:57everyone at
40:58MB Motorsport
40:58has done a
40:59fantastic job
41:00thank you Tom
41:02thank you
41:03he's returning
41:04my good
41:04I've got a
41:05collection of
41:06yours at home
41:07so yeah
41:09you know
41:09it's a good
41:10touring car
41:10fight to end
41:11the day there
41:11it was a great
41:12battle between
41:13the two of you
41:13wasn't it
41:14it was
41:14you know
41:14it's another
41:15one of me
41:16and Tom's
41:16excellent fights
41:17that we've
41:17had over the
41:18years
41:18another one
41:19to add to
41:19the collection
41:20so yeah
41:21a great way
41:21to end the
41:22day
41:22what a home
41:23race it's
41:23been for you
41:23it's been
41:24mega
41:24you know
41:24lovely to
41:25get a couple
41:25of podiums
41:26and my first
41:27win finally
41:28at Brands
41:28Indies
41:28so yeah
41:29it's been a
41:29long time
41:30coming
41:30congratulations
41:31well done
41:31and let's
41:34delivered well
41:35you took it
41:35away in the
41:36first place
41:36so nice of
41:37you to deliver
41:37it back
41:37where was that
41:38wedged in the
41:38front of your
41:39car or
41:39something
41:39yeah
41:41yeah it's
41:43fairly close
41:43on those last
41:44couple of laps
41:44wasn't it
41:44between Jake
41:45and I
41:45yeah good
41:46I mean we
41:47managed to
41:48with the result
41:49we had in
41:49race two
41:50we obviously
41:50had a little
41:51bit more
41:51high TTB
41:53left in hand
41:54so it meant
41:55we could sort
41:56of be a little
41:57bit more
41:57strategic
41:57and the
41:58difference
41:58being at a
41:59deploy from
41:59a lower
41:59speed is
42:00amazing as
42:01well
42:01so even
42:01though you're
42:01still getting
42:02the same
42:02amount
42:02over the
42:03lap
42:03just being
42:04able to
42:04deploy it
42:05from a
42:05lower
42:05speed
42:05makes such
42:06a difference
42:07so good
42:08result
42:08yeah really
42:09really good
42:09result
42:09so yeah
42:10as team
42:11Virtue we've
42:11had quite a
42:12strong weekend
42:12it's been
42:13pretty good
42:13great to see
42:14Adam up there
42:15as well
42:15which has been
42:15fantastic
42:16and yeah
42:17huge congratulations
42:18to Charles
42:18on his first
42:19win
42:19so massive
42:20well done
42:20I feel like
42:21the regs are
42:21doing what we
42:22want them to
42:22do
42:22you're now
42:2387 and
42:238 and I
42:245 points
42:24off Ash
42:25Jake just
42:267 points
42:26behind you
42:27so it's
42:28nice and
42:28close
42:29that's how
42:29we like it
42:29what are your
42:30thoughts
42:30looking ahead
42:33this car has
42:33been phenomenal
42:34again this
42:34weekend
42:35so you know
42:36on the soft
42:36and the hard
42:37tyre it felt
42:38good
42:38it probably
42:38didn't look
42:39like it was
42:39very good
42:39on the hard
42:40tyre earlier
42:40on because
42:41we were swamped
42:41by cars
42:42around us
42:43with nearly
42:44the whole grid
42:45on the soft
42:46so the cars
42:47felt very good
42:47which is really
42:48really encouraging
42:48it's in a
42:51really really nice
42:51place at the
42:52minute it just
42:52feels fantastic
42:53every tyre we
42:54put it on
42:54so it's a
42:55pleasure to drive
42:55and I can't
42:56see any reason
42:57this can't carry
42:57on all the way
42:58through
42:58good stuff
42:58thank you Tom
42:59great exciting
43:00race for us
43:01we are heading
43:02off for a break
43:03now but when
43:04we come back
43:04plenty for the
43:05guys to catch
43:05up about
43:06West Surrey
43:12Racing after all
43:13the frustrations
43:13that Donington
43:14have delivered
43:15three different
43:16winners on an
43:17extraordinary
43:18comeback day
43:19here at
43:19Brands Hatch
43:20Hill de Leon
43:21and now Charles
43:23Rainford wearing
43:23the biggest of
43:24smiles
43:24but let's not
43:25forget it's still
43:26Sutton and Ingram
43:27setting the pace
43:28at the top of
43:28the championship
43:29Tom Ingram some
43:31five points behind
43:32Ash Sutton
43:33Jake Hill
43:33what a day
43:34what a productive
43:35day as he's
43:36moved himself
43:36into third
43:37place
43:37the defending
43:38champion
43:38Tom Chilton
43:39is fourth
43:40and that top
43:41eight completed
43:41by Adam
43:42Morgan
43:42Dan
43:43Robott
43:43and Dan
43:44Camish
43:44the unfortunate
43:45Dan Camish
43:46and Chris
43:47Smiley as well
43:48Jade and Paul
43:49some final thoughts
43:51what have we seen
43:52today in terms of
43:53the arrival of a
43:54new generation of
43:55touring car winners
43:56yes two new
43:57winners there and
43:58Charles Rainford in
43:59that final race
44:00not only battling
44:01throughout
44:02battling with his
44:03teammate and Jake
44:04it'll be interesting
44:06to see how he how
44:07he deals with that
44:07because Jake was
44:08on form last year
44:09as we saw as
44:10champion and he's
44:11been on form today
44:12but to be dug into
44:13by your own
44:13teammate who's a
44:14rookie that is
44:15going to take some
44:15getting used to
44:16did it surprise you
44:18how intense that
44:19became with with
44:20Jake and Charles
44:21I mean it says a
44:22lot about the
44:23competitive spirit
44:24within the team
44:25yes so yes on
44:26both counts and
44:27I'm glad that
44:28Jade brought it
44:28up and I think
44:29that you know
44:30what I thought it
44:31was great because
44:31I think sometimes
44:32touring car misses
44:33needle and it
44:34misses a little bit
44:35of rubbing and
44:37Rainford drove like
44:38Jason Plato prime
44:39I thought it was
44:40brilliant you know
44:41it was a great move
44:42on row bottom as
44:42well a bit marginal
44:44I think with the
44:45new regulation and
44:46where you've got to
44:46be to overtake but
44:48I thought it was
44:48fantastic and yeah
44:49I think they would
44:50be having kittens at
44:52WSR but that
44:53that could have
44:54gone very wrong
44:55if that was on a
44:55different driver or
44:56a rear wheel drive
44:57another rear wheel
44:58drive car we could
44:59have been looking at
44:59something else but
45:00Rainford for me you
45:02would if someone said
45:03to you what you think
45:04he's going to be like
45:05at the front you
45:06wouldn't have said
45:06that I mean his
45:07accent just doesn't
45:09portray that does it
45:10I thought he was a
45:11class thing it's a
45:12class thing it ain't
45:13northern I'll tell you
45:14that I thought it was
45:15absolutely brilliant and
45:17a fantastic way to
45:19win a race just just
45:20great to see today that
45:22first race for me was
45:23pretty boring second
45:24and third today have
45:25been classic British
45:26touring cars I've
45:27loved it yeah and it
45:28says a lot about the
45:30strength of the team
45:30the victories have come
45:31from three different
45:32drivers tells you a lot
45:33about the arrival of a
45:34very competitive car
45:35yeah I think Dick
45:36Bennett's is going to
45:37be having a very
45:38stressful couple of
45:39weeks whilst he tries
45:40to figure out who's
45:41going to be leading
45:41what if anyone's going
45:42to lead anything or
45:43whether he just got to
45:44kind of let them
45:45figure it out
45:46themselves but I
45:47think with Charles
45:47today he did enough
45:49rubbing and racing to
45:51then back it up you
45:52know he didn't go out
45:53all guns blazing and
45:54then screw up his
45:55tires and then drop
45:55back he held his own
45:57and that's the way to
45:58do it in this
45:58championship you've got
45:59to keep your elbows out
46:00and and he's now made
46:02his place on this grid
46:03so Snetton's going to
46:04go one of two ways is
46:05either going to be just
46:06as fast and just as
46:07competitive or he
46:08might earn some new
46:09stripes of his now that
46:10he's kind of put a mark
46:11on himself for the next
46:12round and you've also
46:13got to keep your elbows
46:14out in terms of banking
46:15championship points and
46:16let's not forget that
46:17Ash Sutton still leads
46:18the championship with
46:19six races gone and
46:21he's been talking with
46:21Louise Ash sum up your
46:24weekend and that final
46:25race it looked like you
46:26had a fairly lively car
46:27on your hands there
46:28yeah it was a lively
46:30with some assistance
46:31could open off it but
46:32yeah it was a we work
46:35we come into today sort
46:36of knowing we're gonna
46:37have to turn the day
46:38around and take the
46:39the pain in race one
46:40minimum deployment we
46:42had and obviously the
46:43hard tyre and chip
46:44away for as the day
46:45goes on and race two
46:47we had a mega job
46:47car was phenomenal
46:49we come through up to
46:51third from tenth which
46:52was good and then
46:53yeah the last race
46:54obviously there was
46:55suddenly a lot of
46:56soft cars around us
46:57some of the guys had
46:57used the hard tyre in
46:59race one and obviously
47:00in race two so yeah
47:02there was a good old
47:02soft race in the end
47:03and typical race three
47:05with a bit of tussling
47:06well you still got the
47:08championship lead by
47:09five points as we head
47:11to Snetterton what are
47:12your thoughts looking
47:12ahead to the next race
47:13great obviously leading
47:16the championship is mega
47:16but yeah the deployment
47:18there is one of the
47:20biggest deficits
47:21throughout the whole
47:22calendar so that's going
47:23to be good fun
47:24but that's part and
47:25parcel of it that's how
47:26the dice rolls and the
47:29cards we've got there
47:29we need to play them as
47:30well as well as we can
47:31see you there
47:32cheers thank you
47:33thank you
47:34Snetterton in two weeks
47:35time let's swiftly go
47:36back to the commentary
47:37box I'm sure the birthday
47:38cake has been devoured and
47:40we can get some final
47:40thoughts from David and
47:42Tim it's been devoured by
47:44Tim by the way
47:44how has the championship
47:48changed today fellas
47:49well whichever way you
47:51look at the day it is
47:52hard not to keep coming
47:53back to the BMW story
47:54isn't it I mean for a
47:55car that was so seemingly
47:56off the pace last time
47:57out at Donington to have
47:59three wins and three
48:00different drivers yeah
48:01it's been great work by
48:03the drivers great work by
48:04the team and BMW is very
48:05much back but other good
48:06stories I think I'll offer
48:07you another one just as a
48:08talking point the restart
48:10racing Hyundai Chris
48:11Smiley couple of
48:12independent wins and being
48:13able to run at the front
48:14on merit as well and
48:16that's only going to get
48:17stronger and stronger as
48:18the year goes on yeah
48:19very much so I mean I
48:20think there's more to
48:21this BMW story than
48:23perhaps appears the
48:24circuit is a good rear
48:25wheel drive track as
48:27indeed will Snetterton be
48:28and and the weather and
48:30the use of soft tyres has
48:32all just played nicely into
48:33the hands of BMW I want to
48:35see them do it on other
48:37tracks and perhaps not on
48:38the soft tyre on a hot
48:39day but they're back and
48:41they're definitely in the
48:42fight and that's great to
48:43see and there'll be some
48:44fast BMWs with a lot of
48:46boost evade will come
48:46qualifying at Snetterton
48:48which as Ash has said is a
48:50power circuit and we've
48:52also got two BMW drivers
48:53now that you factor in when
48:54you're talking about
48:55potential winners you know
48:56yes I think you mean
48:57three well two extra I
48:59suppose really because you
49:01know you've got now
49:01Daryl De Leon and Charles
49:02Rainford having had those
49:03first wins so you're not
49:04just looking at Jake Hill
49:06necessarily as the team
49:07trailblazer we know Aidan
49:08Moffat can win races and
49:09now the other two have
49:10proved that they can do it
49:11as well okay fellas thanks
49:14very much enjoy the rest of
49:15the birthday David quick
49:16thought about Snetterton
49:17that lies ahead very much a
49:19BMW kind of circuit yeah I
49:21think that they're going to
49:22take this momentum on to
49:23Snetterton like Ash just
49:24said there he's also got the
49:25biggest deficit in terms of
49:26boost so that's going to be
49:27tricky for him it's going to
49:29be another interesting
49:30weekend we've had you know
49:31the Napa focus and the
49:33the virtue Hyundai quick at
49:35Donington we've had BMW
49:36quick here who's going to
49:37be on top at Snetterton
49:39probably a BMW again what
49:41do you reckon Paul maybe
49:42but I'm just I'm putting my
49:44hand up because I'm going
49:45to say look out for Chris
49:46Smiley in that Hyundai with
49:48a lot of boost I think
49:49someone like him in an
49:50aerodynamic car I think
49:51that's going to be a real
49:53good watch and I hope that
49:54he can get another good
49:57result because he's struggling
49:58at the minute but restart
49:59racing have done a great job
50:00and Smiley has been
50:01phenomenal hope he doesn't
50:02get that position took off
50:03him because they were
50:04looking at his race starts
50:05weren't they yeah we should
50:07also say credit to Goodyear
50:08today because they came
50:09through a big test this
50:11afternoon massive absolutely
50:13huge I mean I looked at
50:15Mickey Butler up the up the
50:17pit lane today and he just
50:19did this which meant
50:21everyone's going to be
50:22understeering and you don't
50:23ever see you don't ever
50:24want to see a tyre man do
50:25that because he knows it's
50:26going to overheat the tyre
50:27great job fantastic company
50:29have always been good to us
50:30and they're yeah touring
50:31cars is back great job
50:32all around thanks very much
50:34indeed
