Round 8 Starts - 12:05
Transcript
00:00Thank you, Stephen. Yes, before I dive in and grab a word with the youngsters in the car these days,
00:07I thought I'd hop in and say hello to an old friend from Formula One days, Martin Donnelly,
00:12a man who was making big names for himself back in the day, racing for the Lotus Formula One team,
00:16based just down the road in Hethel, and still very much involved with Lotus these days, aren't you?
00:20Very much so. It's on my home turf. Great to be back here, Sneddon.
00:24Great to see the place looking so well. I've never seen it look so well in the past.
00:29A lot of people here, the brand, and, you know, I work for Lotus.
00:33I work for the LDA. They're on Friday doing some stuff for their customers.
00:38My son drove my 102 car on the Thursday at Hethel, which obviously was a lifetime.
00:47We never thought 35 years ago that would happen.
00:50So I'm glad to be able to show when he came in and pulled off and had the biggest smile on his face ever.
00:54So that's something you take to your grave, you know. It's fantastic.
00:57I bet. Great to see you here, Martin. Great to grab a word.
00:59Right, let's dive in and say hello to Dan Rowbottom, who is kind of in the pouncy for this race
01:06because he is going to be the first of the drivers starting on the soft tyres
01:10with three guys with the hard tyres ahead of him.
01:13This could be very good territory for you, couldn't it?
01:17Yeah, I think so. I mean, obviously, we're the first soft tyre car on the grid, as you said.
01:20And we didn't have the pace, ultimately, to charge for a podium in race one.
01:26So this was the best thing. Ultimately, we've got the opportunity now.
01:29There's some quick cars down this.
01:31You know, Adam and even Mikey Doble did a great job on the hard tyre,
01:34and he's only back in ninth, so we've got to just make some hay and hope for the best.
01:38Have you sharpened up the car in any way, shape or form between race one and this one?
01:41Have you made some changes?
01:43We've done a few bits.
01:43You know, we didn't quite have the balance where we needed it for race one.
01:47So Paul's done.
01:49He's worked his magic, and we're going to hope that it's good enough.
01:52I mean, you know, it's so close to this grid now.
01:55You know, you only need a tickle to make something work.
01:58So I think we've probably got in the right direction, and I'll tell you in about half an hour.
02:01You mentioned Mikey Doble.
02:02You've also got Dan Lloyd alongside, who I know was looking quite handy in the last race.
02:06So how much of a threat do you think he's going to be?
02:08I mean, ultimately, Dan has a lot of hybrid for the first race.
02:11He's got a little bit more than us now, so we've just got to try and get our head down and go.
02:17I mean, ultimately, I think we're in a good position, but you never know.
02:20It's BTCC, right?
02:22Fingers crossed.
02:23Good luck.
02:23Let's go down to the back of the grid now.
02:25Who have you got, Paul?
02:27Thanks, Lou.
02:27Yeah, I'm with Gordon Shedden, and I've just been speaking to your wife, Gillian,
02:31and she says it's a new Gordon Shedden.
02:34What's new about you, mate?
02:36No stress.
02:37I think, yeah, I mean, that's obviously a disaster in race.
02:41I mean, to be attacked like that, it did a whole load of damage to the car.
02:44It's never good when you see engineers with hammers in their hand and welding guns out and everything.
02:50So, yeah, just really disappointed to, you know, be on the receiving end of that.
02:56But that's what we've got.
02:57Guy's done a great job to get it fixed.
02:59You know, we've just got to get on with the job now.
03:00Soft tyres for the next two races, so we'll see what we can scramble from the weekend.
03:03Chassis seems good, though, doesn't it?
03:05Car seems like it rotates well.
03:07It does everything you want it to do.
03:08So this soft tyre should be the blessing.
03:11I hope so.
03:11Obviously, we've put a lot of cars on this soft tyre now.
03:13But, yeah, I mean, she's going well around the corners.
03:15It stops well, turns well.
03:17You know, we could do with a bit more.
03:19A bit more get-up and go, but we're working really hard on that.
03:22But, you know, we've just got to do the best job that we can just now.
03:26And see where it takes us.
03:27You know, I think, obviously, a few of the cars a bit further up on the hard tyre, you know, might be a little bit of a blockage.
03:32I could do with a bit of carnage somewhere up that grid to help our progress a little bit.
03:37Not involving us this time.
03:39But, yeah, we'll see how we go.
03:41Last one for you, mate.
03:42Matt Neill never treated you as badly as some of your teammates seem to treat you, mate.
03:46It's rough out there, isn't it?
03:47It looked like a bit 50-50 down at the hairpin with Aaron.
03:49But how did you see it?
03:51Yeah, I mean, I was pretty comfortable where I was, you know, first lap.
03:54And he kind of arrived, yeah, fully committed, two wheels on the grass.
03:58And obviously then got into Jake as well.
04:00So, yeah, collectively, we could have done without that.
04:03You know, it's not, you know, when we are where we are on the grid,
04:06you just don't need things like that happening.
04:08We've got to be working together to go forwards.
04:09But, again, it's done now.
04:12Can't change it.
04:12Get on with it.
04:13Well, listen, good luck, champ.
04:15You deserve to be right up there, mate.
04:17We'll keep plugging away at it.
04:18You know, it's tough.
04:19But we've got to get, you know, take all the boxes and do the best we can.
04:23Top man.
04:23Good luck, mate.
04:24Lou, who you got?
04:26Thank you, Paul.
04:27Right, I mentioned him earlier on.
04:28Let's dive in now with Dan Lloyd, who was looking pretty handy in that first race.
04:35You've got a good car underneath you here, haven't you?
04:37Yeah, we had good pace there.
04:39We were confident we would from qualifying.
04:41But, yeah, it was really good.
04:43Obviously, mega happy to get the independence win and some mega points for the team.
04:46But we've also made some quite big improvements for this race.
04:51Well, we think we have anyway.
04:52Hopefully, they are.
04:53Wasn't quite happy with the balance, but still really good pace.
04:57So, yeah, see what this race brings.
04:59What was it not doing that you wanted it to do?
05:01I had too much understeer from quite early on in the race.
05:04It was quite surprising, to be honest.
05:06So, we've made quite a few decent changes for this.
05:09I'm sure other people have improved as well.
05:11But considering how it felt and the fact that we were still quick, I think is quite promising for this one.
05:17Well, what did you learn from race one about the delta between the harder tyre and the softer tyre?
05:22Because, obviously, you and Dan Robo are on the soft tyre.
05:25You've got three guys ahead of you on the harder tyre.
05:27So, how much difference is there going to be in terms of lap pace in your favour?
05:31Yeah, I think the main person to look at was Mikey Doble.
05:34He seemed to struggle, particularly at the start.
05:37The softer, definitely the dominant tyre.
05:39And, obviously, the guys at the front have less boost as well.
05:42So, I mean, you know, those boys are quick.
05:45They know what they're doing.
05:46So, you never know.
05:47But I don't know.
05:49I don't want to say too much.
05:50But I think we could be in a good position here.
05:52I just want to get stuck in.
05:54And, you know, if we can get towards that overall podium after what's been a tough start to the season,
06:00I think it'd be mega for myself and the team.
06:03Fingers firmly crossed.
06:04I think quietly confident is the word there.
06:06So, let's see how it all turns out.
06:08That second race is going to be coming up after this quick break.
06:11Here at Snetterton, the grid is set for round eight of the QuickFit British Touring Car Championship.
06:22We'll join our commentators, Tim Harvey and David Addison.
06:26So, we're set for race two.
06:27It is another really interesting grid.
06:29Some big names at the back trying to make progress.
06:31And only those top three on the harder tyre.
06:34Yeah, and there really is about a second of lap time difference,
06:37talking to Mickey Butler and analysing the lap times.
06:40So, they are going to form that roadblock.
06:42As fast as they are, they're going to form that roadblock.
06:45And unless they're very careful, there could be a whole pile of cars coming up behind them trying to get through.
06:51So, it's got the recipe for a little bit of confusion at the front.
06:55But we'll see how they handle it.
06:56And I think you're absolutely right.
06:58I think that Dan Rowbottom and Dan Lloyd have got a fabulous chance in this race.
07:03Yeah, Dan Rowbottom, the best of those on the soft tyre.
07:05Four laps of boost, five laps of boost to Dan Lloyd.
07:08And the green flag shown then.
07:10The cars now accelerate away with Dan Camish, the man on pole position.
07:16Tom Ingram with him at the front of the grid.
07:17Go a little bit further back, you find starting eighth, Chris Smiley in another of the very rapid Hyundai's.
07:24And he is going to be on the full allocation of boost.
07:28He's going to be on eight laps of boost after finishing eighth in the earlier race.
07:34There is the restart racing Hyundai.
07:36Good first race for the team, in fact, with a 1-2 in the independence competition.
07:42Let's check in with Chris Smiley then before we go racing.
07:45Chris, good first race for you.
07:46Really good first race for the team as well.
07:48Yeah, it was a nice positive start to the day, you know.
07:52Yesterday we were looking good to get through to the quick six, but unfortunately we had an issue with the rear of the car in Q2.
07:59So, yeah, we qualified 12th.
08:02So, yeah, probably out of position slightly.
08:03So, yeah, we probably got ourselves closer to where we should have been yesterday.
08:07And, yeah, as you say, race one was pretty positive there.
08:12And, yeah, made a few tweaks of the car.
08:14A few cars at the front on the hard tyre should make an interesting race.
08:17So, you can push forward in this.
08:19And it's a nice long lap, lots of places to overtake.
08:22So, you must be going into this with a really positive feeling.
08:25Yeah, you know, it's a nice place to be sitting in P8 with, you know, the three cars at the very front on the unpreferred tyre, as I should say.
08:34But, yeah, looking forward to getting going and seeing what we can do.
08:39Right, get going.
08:41Talk to you later, Chris.
08:43So, Chris Miley then starting eighth on the grid.
08:47Dan Lloyd, his teammate, starts fifth.
08:49The front row, Dan Camish and Tom Ingram.
08:51By regulation, they're on that hard tyre with one and two laps of boost, respectively.
08:56Ash Sutton starts third, hard tyre, and he's got three laps of boost.
09:00Dan Robotson, four laps of boost, and he's on the soft.
09:02So is Dan Lloyd, so is Adam Morgan on row three.
09:06Everybody from here on back on the soft tyre.
09:08Tom Chilton, Chris Miley, row four.
09:10Row five, Mikey Doble and Daryl DeLeon.
09:13The sixth row, Josh Cook, still looking for a bit more pace.
09:16Charles Rainford lining up alongside, ahead of teammate, sorry, ahead of Sam Osborne.
09:20And then Aaron Taylor-Smith coming next.
09:23You've got James Dawlin starting 15th.
09:24Ryan Bensley, 16th on the grid.
09:27Then Ronan Pearson and Nicholas Hamilton on row nine.
09:31Dexter Patterson is on row 10 with Nick Halstead.
09:35The 11th row, Jake Hill and Gordon Shedden with Max Hall and Stephen Jelly on row 12.
09:42And Aidan Moffat is going to start from the back of the grid.
09:45He would have been 13th on the original grid, but Aidan Moffat has been put to the back.
09:49And so that is going to be a driver with a lot of work to do.
09:55Right, through bomb hole they come.
09:56If you're wondering what that white line is, it is a bit of speedy drive put down to soak up some oil spilled in that earlier mini challenge race.
10:03Dan Camish then.
10:04Hard tyre, one lap of boost.
10:06As mountains to climb go, this is quite a steep one.
10:10Well, in actual fact, I mean, you have to look at the performance of Mikey Doble who finished ninth and the first car on the hard tyres in race one.
10:19But of course there were a lot more cars on the hard tyres.
10:21There's only three in this race.
10:22The whole rest of them have got the advantage.
10:24So they're going to be looking in their mirrors a lot.
10:26But I'm also fascinated to see what Jake Hill does from the back.
10:30Yes, everybody in front of him, bar those front through, have got the soft tyre.
10:34But we should get a real judge of how quick that BMW is in this race.
10:38Another fascination is going to be how long can those at the front hang on.
10:42It might even be that they get jumped off the line.
10:45But if Camish or Ingram or Sutton can hang on to a place, for how many laps?
10:50Well, the thing is, they know it would be pointless them trying to win this race.
10:54I mean, I say that, but it would really be pretty pointless.
10:57You need to get the best result you can without risking being punted off.
11:01We saw the advantage on the brakes and on traction of the soft tyre in race one.
11:05So they've just got to stay out of trouble and finish as far up as they can.
11:09But trying to win the race could be the wrong move for them.
11:12Camish being very careful with his grid positioning here
11:15and certainly won't want to move before those lights change.
11:18Very true.
11:19It is round eight then of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
11:23Seven races, six different winners.
11:25Are we going to have another different winning name then at the top of the result sheet come the end of this?
11:31The drivers now making their way up into place, which includes there at the back,
11:35rebuilt cars for Gordon Shedden, Stephen Jelly.
11:38He also had contact, we understand, with Max Hall in race one.
11:42And Max Hall's car, by the look of it, is going to start out of position at the very back there.
11:49So Max Hall starting at the back.
11:51Maybe, if there was any concern over the car, it's better to be behind everybody rather than have someone behind you.
11:57Either way, it's all eyes now on the front of the grid.
12:01Green flag at the back.
12:02That means everybody has returned from the formation lap.
12:05Round eight of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
12:09Twelve laps ahead of us, lights quickly out, away they blast, and a good getaway by Sutton.
12:14Good start by Lloyd.
12:15Not a mega getaway by Adam Morgan, but on the run down towards Riches for the first time.
12:19It's Dan Kamish.
12:20Here comes Sutton, look up the inside of Ingram to try to go second.
12:23And Dan Lloyds ahead of Roadbottom on the inside with a good start by Tom Chilton.
12:27Getting up into sixth place.
12:28And Chilton's another on the soft, don't forget, as the leaders crowd one another.
12:31But Sutton has hit the front already from third on the grid.
12:35Tremendous first couple of corners.
12:36And Sutton leads out of the hairpin.
12:38And there's the rolling roadblock of three cars on the hard tyre.
12:41Well, as in race one, Sutton made a demon start around the first two corners.
12:46In fact, the first three cars on the hard tyre made the best starts for anyone.
12:49But look, the others are already piling into the back of them.
12:53Here comes Roadbottom flashing his lights and everybody get out of the way.
12:57We're in a different race to you.
12:59He's all up the inside of Kamish, look.
13:02And then he's going to try to clear Ingram.
13:03And then Sutton, he's already got himself back ahead of Dan Lloyd.
13:06He made a good start.
13:07Chilton's in the mix.
13:07Adam Morgan is in the mix as well.
13:09Roadbottom gets ahead of Kamish then.
13:11And now Kamish can hold them up, can't he?
13:13Let his teammate get through the pack.
13:14Kamish is not going to be easy to get past Morgan then to the outside line.
13:17Lloyd, then you've got Chilton, Smiley up behind him.
13:20But right now Sutton is trying to get away up front.
13:23And look, Kamish defending from Morgan.
13:25Dan Lloyd gets up the inside of Morgan, shouldn't they?
13:27And that's going to put him ahead on the run down Bentley straight.
13:30Great racing.
13:31Yeah, Lloyd will probably get both of them because he should be later on the brakes here as well.
13:35But Kamish, that was great awareness by Dan Lloyd.
13:38He read that situation perfectly.
13:40And yes, he's managed to close the door as Sutton, Kamish saw he loses another couple of places to Morgan and Chilton.
13:46Get shuffled offline, so that opens the door for Smiley, who's coming look on the inside toward Bob Hope.
13:52And that's where all the speedy drive is.
13:53A little bit less traction there.
13:54The rest of the field files through.
13:56So Sutton it is, leading the way from Ingram.
13:58A bit of leaning going on their look as Chris Smiley gets up the inside of Dan Kamish.
14:03He was dropping like a stone, having been shuffled offline.
14:05That kind of opens the floodgates.
14:06Everybody comes pouring past him.
14:08They're being rubbed up on the outside line, Charles Rainford, as the leaders come across the line at the end of lap number one.
14:14So Ash Sutton is the race leader.
14:15Tom Ingram is second and Roboth of his third.
14:18In fourth place is Dan Lloyd.
14:19In fifth place, Adam Morgan.
14:21Chilton is sixth.
14:21Then he's Smiley.
14:22Kamish down to eighth from Osborne and Doble.
14:24Well, I have to say, Sutton and Ingram have done a fantastic first lap to survive in the front in the hard tyres.
14:31You can see how hard it is just by the way Kamish has gone back.
14:35And there is Dan Kamish under attack from his teammate Sam Osborne.
14:38Look, who's got Mikey Doble behind him.
14:40Then Josh Cook is next in the queue as the leaders come down towards turn three for the second time of asking.
14:46And there, Kamish on the inside line.
14:48Osborne switches sides, gets up the inside on the corner exit and will have the right line for Agostini.
14:53But also, look, Mikey Doble's very, very rapid.
14:55Vox All-Astra tries to follow the forward through.
14:58There's Josh Cook on his toes as well.
14:59He finds a gap on the inside.
15:01And there's not much Dan Kamish can do there to defend.
15:03No, he's absolutely been hung out to dry there.
15:06But there isn't anything he can do.
15:08They've got a big grip advantage.
15:10I'm just waiting to see what happens when Roboth and Lloyd catch up with Sutton and Ingram.
15:15And look, they're catching.
15:16They're not far away.
15:17Yeah, they're almost there on the against start.
15:19That's going to allow Morgan and Chilton to catch up.
15:22You've got Josh Cook there crawling all over the back of Kamish now, looking for another place as well.
15:25Dust kicked up by Max Hall, who's on the back of James Dawlin.
15:29As here are the leaders then, down Bentley straight.
15:31And Roboth makes his move against Ingram, who does defend.
15:34He's not prepared to just let him by.
15:35Ingram wants as many points out of this as it gets.
15:37So he's not just going to roll over and let Roboth through.
15:40It might not be the best advice to try to win the race, as Tim explained before.
15:43But Ingram's in no mood to just let people past.
15:46No, because the problem is right.
15:47If you do let him know how wide he is there, does he open the door enough for Robotham?
15:52Not quite.
15:53But Robotham will enjoy a massive grip advantage going around this part of the circuit, around Coram.
15:57It's all about mechanical grip there.
16:00But he's holding on, is Ingram for another lap?
16:03And there you've got Dan Lloyd next in the queue.
16:06And Ingram conscious that behind Robotham are lots of Hyundai's, two of which are from the same team.
16:11So Ash Sutton leads across the line, half a second.
16:14Dan Lloyd has just done the fastest lap of the race.
16:16Now Chris Smiley does the fastest lap of the race.
16:18Remember, if you see on that graphic, the little turbo indicator go green.
16:22Big, big slide there from Ingram, who's in the wall, coming off turn one, clashes the barrier, and he's broken the suspension.
16:28Yeah, right front suspension is damaged and broken.
16:33And that is bad, bad news.
16:35Tom Ingram limps on, but he's going to have to be a retirement.
16:38Now was there contact coming into the corner?
16:40He's all sideways.
16:41He tries to save it.
16:41He finds the barrier, and that damages the rear suspension.
16:44There was a little wiggle from Robotham's car, wasn't there, which could indicate that there was contact.
16:49Right, so that gives you Sutton in the lead.
16:53Second now is Robotham, up to third is Dan Lloyd.
16:55Look, ahead of Adam Morgan.
16:57And then behind the pair of them is Tom Chilton, and Chris Smiley is going to be up into the top six.
17:02Ingram is trying to drag the car back to the pit lane, but that's another big name.
17:06Struggling, like we saw Jake Hill in race one.
17:08Well, Jake Hill, he's up to 15th.
17:10He's in the points.
17:10Yeah, I was just going to mention, Jake, before we saw the incident with Ingram.
17:14He's making good progress, but this is, it is very difficult.
17:17When you've got cars racing with such different grip levels, you know, turning into riches,
17:22there's down one gear in on the, hard on the power, but a car that's got less grip,
17:27and look, Robotham is now going to move past Sutton.
17:30Sutton's not going to make this hard for his teammate.
17:32He'll just try and follow him, but that was smooth sailing for, uh, for Robotham.
17:37Will Sutton try and make it difficult, though, for Lloyd to get through?
17:40Because that would really help him.
17:42Would indeed, wouldn't it?
17:43And we've seen in the past Dan Robotham being the team player to help Ash Sutton win a championship.
17:47Ash is able to repay the compliment here and let Dan Robotham through,
17:51and now perhaps start to get very, very defensive against Dan Lloyd.
17:54Tom Ingram is still going, despite the fact the car is far from being 100%,
17:58as the leaders come then now up from Turn 12 towards the timing line.
18:01Robotham trying to build that lead, with the drivers behind him having more laps of boost other than Sutton,
18:07and, of course, the correct tyre other than Sutton.
18:09Lloyd gets up the inside then, and should be able to clear the Napa Racing Ford by Turn 1 up the inside line.
18:14He goes, the man from Huddersfield, Dan Lloyd, up into second place now.
18:18The other thing is that Tony Carrozza, Ash Sutton's engineer,
18:22would have been on the phone to him on the radio,
18:25telling him about Ingram's problems, which will make him even more circumspect,
18:29and that's why Ash is not fighting so hard now,
18:31because he knows he's outscoring Ingram,
18:34and that's all it's about, outscoring your rivals.
18:37And Ingram is in the pit lane, not surprisingly,
18:39presumably race down, as there, look, Chris Smiley now gets it,
18:42inside of Ash Sutton. Ingram to the pit lane.
18:45This is a move from Jake Hill,
18:48on teammate Darrell De Leon,
18:51that looked like it was into the hairpin at Wilson.
18:53That's a change for 13th place then, Jake Hill moving forward.
18:56Right, Rowbottom is the leader, Lloyd is second,
18:59Morgan is third, Chilton is fourth,
19:01and Dan Rowbottom then was half a second ahead of Dan Lloyd,
19:04in fact, close to six tenths of a second ahead of Dan Lloyd
19:07when they came across the line.
19:08Looks a little bit less than that to the eye.
19:10Sutton now's got Shuffle back into sixth place,
19:13and there you've got, again, back to the next battle,
19:17which is Osborne, Doble, Cook, Kamish now in tenth place.
19:21So Ash Sutton remains the best place of the three on the hard tyre,
19:24only two of whom are now still circulating,
19:26but down towards the end of Bentley Strait,
19:28in sector one, Rowbottom was quicker,
19:30in sector two, Rowbottom was quicker.
19:31Yeah, well, we're going to have to wait to see now
19:34whether Dan Lloyd's...
19:35Oh, we've got to read another look now at the incident.
19:40Well, it looked like...
19:41In actual fact, it looked like Rowbottom's car
19:43was quite a long way away from Ingram's there, didn't it?
19:47Maybe Ingram just got wide,
19:49went in too hard on the hard tyre and lost the rear.
19:52Possibly so.
19:53Right, Rowbottom and Lloyd then,
19:54the two Dans coming up towards the completion now
19:57of lap number four in this 12-lap race,
20:00and it is Ford versus Hyundai.
20:01Small gap back to Hyundai.
20:03It's Morgan ahead of Chiltern.
20:04Chris Smiley is in the mix as well.
20:06So all of them looking for a first win of the year,
20:09bar Tom Chiltern, of course,
20:11who was victorious at Donington,
20:12and he tries the outside line against Morgan.
20:14Same team, different liveries.
20:15He's every man for himself,
20:16and Chris Smiley right there,
20:17but look, Lloyd, he's all over the back of Rowbottom.
20:19The restart racing at Hyundai,
20:21looking not just for an independent win,
20:23but an outright win.
20:24Yeah, four Hyundais against one Ford,
20:27focus, isn't it?
20:27But Dan Rowbottom is going to fight
20:30for all he's worth to keep this
20:31and win his first race of the year, isn't he?
20:34Absolutely, but so too is Dan Lloyd,
20:36who would love to give restart racing
20:38its first outright win.
20:40He did the same for its predecessor,
20:42BTC Racing.
20:43Rowbottom goes very defensive down towards Turn 4.
20:46Smiley up the inside in the background of Chiltern.
20:48Lloyd up the inside of Rowbottom,
20:49coming out of the corner,
20:50and look, he's like a rolling start
20:52because the black Hyundais are on the inside in most cases.
20:54Lloyd can't clear Rowbottom in the background.
20:56Smiley on the inside looking to try to go fourth
20:59on the run up through the infield.
21:01And there you go for that place then.
21:03On the outside line is Smiley,
21:04but Chilton is able to fend him off.
21:06So Chris Smiley on the wrong line
21:07has to think about it again.
21:09He's still there in fifth.
21:10And Sutton on the lights now,
21:11trying to monster Smiley out of the way.
21:13Sutton's staying with them on the hard tyre.
21:14Yeah, Sutton's staying there,
21:16but he hasn't really got the pace on those hard tyres to fight them,
21:20but he's probably just trying to put Smiley off
21:23and put him on notice, if you like.
21:25But of course, both these leading cars said on the grid
21:28that their team had made changes to the setup for this race.
21:32And it's just as easy to get that change wrong
21:34as it is to get it right.
21:35So close and so small
21:37is the window of ultimate performance on these cars.
21:41Very true as you ride on board then with Chris Smiley.
21:43That was Tom Chilton ahead,
21:44going a little bit wide,
21:45coming out of a ball hole.
21:46Through Corham Curve,
21:47Dan Lloyd with this elasticated gap
21:49that stretched and closed over the course of the lap
21:51has closed again,
21:52coming through turn 12.
21:53but Adam Morgan, I would suggest,
21:55is looking closer.
21:56Chris Smiley has still got the fastest lap of the race,
21:59to his credit,
21:59as he comes up now towards the timing line.
22:02Jake Hill in the background,
22:03he's in the next queue of cars.
22:05Rowbottom to Lloyd,
22:060.397 of a second this time around.
22:09Well, they were both on the boost on the last lap
22:11and in terms of laps available to them,
22:14Rowbottom has two laps,
22:16Lloyd has three,
22:18but Morgan has five.
22:19So Morgan definitely has more advantage boost-wise.
22:23Yeah, Morgan's only used one of his allocated laps,
22:25therefore,
22:26Lloyd is trying to get Rowbottom out of the way
22:28and get the race lead,
22:30but Dan Rowbottom is defending.
22:31He's not pulling away,
22:32but he is putting the car in the right place
22:34to defend all the while.
22:35From the Hyundai,
22:36behind is Adam Morgan.
22:37In fourth place,
22:38it's Tom Chilton.
22:39Fifth is Smiley,
22:40then a bit of a gap back to
22:41Ash Sutton,
22:42still sixth ahead of Mikey Doble,
22:44up into seventh.
22:45Eighth is Sam Osborne,
22:46ninth is Josh Cook,
22:47and tenth is Aaron Taylor-Smith.
22:49Yeah, big fight going on behind,
22:51isn't there?
22:51But look,
22:53Ash Sutton,
22:54you see his pull,
22:54he's dropped away,
22:55that pace he had,
22:57he's dropped away from the others,
22:58that flashing of his lights at Smiley,
23:00he hasn't done any good at all.
23:02He's fallen into the clutches of Mikey Doble now.
23:04Has indeed,
23:05as the lead has come on to Bentley Straight,
23:07and again,
23:07because of the length of the lap,
23:09some parts of it,
23:09you think,
23:10the gaps have come down,
23:11other parts of the circuit,
23:12you see them stretch up again.
23:13Josh Cook on the tail of Sam Osborne,
23:15eighth and ninth,
23:16they are.
23:17Dan Lloyd in the wheel tracks,
23:18heading in towards the S's again,
23:21this lap number six,
23:22Morgan still third.
23:23Now,
23:24important to say,
23:24at some point,
23:25Dan Rowbottom is going to have to do a lap
23:29without the boost,
23:31when Dan Lloyd has got the boost,
23:33because he's got one less.
23:34That'll be the test lap,
23:35to see whether he can stay in front.
23:37Well indeed,
23:38getting a replay,
23:38Mikey Doble getting all caught up,
23:40coming down to the S's,
23:42and Spears across the grass,
23:44who was he battling with?
23:45It was Sam Osborne at the start of the lap,
23:47so I think the box all of the four
23:48have got themselves together,
23:49and after a big scare,
23:51Mikey Doble rejoins,
23:53after a colossal Kobe Brown moment
23:54at the end of Bentley Straight.
23:56Well,
23:56he rejoined,
23:56and he's actually still in front of them.
23:59He rejoined just in front of Sam Osborne,
24:01who,
24:02in all of that,
24:03Josh Cook got passed,
24:04but in fact,
24:05they're actually as they were.
24:06So,
24:09Mikey Doble having a big,
24:10big moment,
24:11and there the race leaders
24:12coming up towards Wilson.
24:15Dan Kamish,
24:16incidentally,
24:16who led from the start
24:18of the bridge,
24:1816th now,
24:20and so Ash Sutton
24:21doing a good job
24:22hanging on in there in the top six,
24:23but we saw Dan Kamish
24:24get shuffled back in the pack
24:25early on in the race.
24:26There are the race leaders,
24:27they were split by 0.368 of a second
24:29going on to this lap,
24:31and Adam Morgan,
24:31I want to offer you,
24:32is looking a little bit nearer
24:33this time around,
24:34which is bad news for Dan Lloyd.
24:35He wants to concentrate
24:36on attacking,
24:37not defending.
24:38He is,
24:38but of course,
24:40although they're both in Hyundai's,
24:41they're in different teams,
24:42so they're racing for themselves,
24:44and there'll be no love lost
24:46in terms of trying to gain that position.
24:48Morgan has the most amount of boost
24:49available to him.
24:50Hill,
24:51as we have mentioned,
24:52he's up to 12th.
24:53chipping his way up the order,
24:54that's Stephen Jelly as well,
24:56up from the back of the grid,
24:57taking Dexter Patterson with him,
24:59getting past Max Hall,
25:00both of whom have had a rally with Max this season,
25:03Stephen Jelly earlier today,
25:04Dexter Patterson at Brandt Hatch,
25:06but the race leaders,
25:07currently on lap number seven out of the 12,
25:09and Dan Rowbottom has now got
25:12two more laps of boost that he can use,
25:16Dan Lloyd has got three more laps of boost
25:18that he can use,
25:19the graphic showing you how many they have used,
25:21not how many they have to go,
25:22Adam Morgan's only used one,
25:24and Chris Hiley's on-board view
25:26is at the back of Tom Chilton's car,
25:27there are the race leaders,
25:28Rowbottom not shaking off,
25:30Louie.
25:30No, same sort of positions,
25:33that was a really impressive save
25:35from Mikey Dobble
25:36as he went across the grass there,
25:38and he also managed to stay on the pace
25:40very quickly,
25:41cleaned his tyres up very quickly
25:42and stayed on pace,
25:44he's a remarkable driver,
25:45isn't he Mikey Dobble,
25:46I think he really does punch above his weight.
25:50Very unassuming,
25:51gets on with life,
25:52almost difficultly to tour to him,
25:53into the back of Aaron Taylor-Smith there,
25:55Jake, he'll just a little tap in the tail,
25:57the race leaders though,
25:58it is game on as they went across the line,
26:00so Dan Lloyd is through,
26:02at the end of the straight,
26:03he's taken the race lead,
26:04Dan Lloyd goes by,
26:05so the restart racing Hyundai,
26:07up into the lead of the race,
26:08Rowbottom won't like that,
26:09comes up to fight on the outside line,
26:11which of the two Dans
26:12is going to come out of the corner ahead,
26:14it is Dan Lloyd then,
26:15lap eight out of twelve,
26:16Lloyd leads,
26:17Rowbottom down to second,
26:19and Dan Lloyd with a good move,
26:20has gone charging by,
26:21Rowbottom fights back then,
26:23so he's got the pace to fight,
26:25Dan Lloyd trying to defend,
26:26all the way through turn three,
26:28and now the run towards Agnistini,
26:29and Lloyd covers off the inside line,
26:31Rowbottom to the outside line,
26:32feels that's worth a chance,
26:34well it was the lap,
26:35that Lloyd had the extra lap of boost,
26:37they're both on the same now,
26:39so Lloyd used that boost very well,
26:41to catch Rowbottom unawares,
26:43and get past,
26:44Rowbottom back up the inside,
26:45he's going to retake the lead,
26:46look at coming up towards turn five,
26:47he's done it,
26:48so Dan Rowbottom may have lost the lead,
26:50but he fights back very nicely,
26:52Adam Morgan is right with them as well now,
26:54so one up,
26:55one back for Dan Lloyd,
26:56Rowbottom leads the way,
26:57so can Lloyd do it all over again,
26:59Rowbottom lost out,
27:00but certainly has the pace of the racecraft,
27:02and go darting back ahead,
27:03and actually on Bentley straight,
27:04has gapped him by a couple of lengths,
27:06oh great stuff Dan Rowbottom,
27:08that's what we like to see,
27:09real fight shown there,
27:11by Dan Rowbottom,
27:12to get back,
27:13he wants this win,
27:14it's great to see,
27:15Dan Lloyd still winning,
27:16Adam Morgan that little bit closer,
27:18so he's Chilton,
27:19so is Smiley,
27:20get back to Doble,
27:21and there you've got Josh Cook,
27:22at the inside of Ash Sasson,
27:23that's a place game there,
27:25by Cookie coming into the Esses,
27:26on this the eighth lap,
27:27Toyota's replay,
27:28a little bit further back,
27:29and Dan Camish continues to tumble,
27:31on his harder tyre,
27:32down into 17th place,
27:34as you watch the field,
27:34filed through the Esses,
27:37race leaders,
27:37coming through Corham,
27:38and still Lloyd is on the attack,
27:40and remember the top 12,
27:42anything from 6 to 12,
27:44could be reversed,
27:45for the final race,
27:46so being in that top 12,
27:47is absolutely crucial,
27:48the man in 12th moment,
27:50is Hill,
27:51so could he end up,
27:52with a reverse grip,
27:53oh that would change,
27:54his day around wouldn't it,
27:55would it ever,
27:56especially with Tom Ingram,
27:57having to start at the very back,
27:58as he's a retirement from the race,
27:59leaders go by once again,
28:01starting now,
28:02lap number nine,
28:03out of the 12,
28:04on board with Smiley,
28:06with Chilton,
28:07defending the inside,
28:09heavily as they go,
28:10into the Wilson hairpin,
28:12just short run out of here,
28:13towards Palmer's,
28:15the left-hander,
28:15so defending there's,
28:17fairly easy to do,
28:18if you're just a single car,
28:19on a single car,
28:22and because Smiley,
28:23is attacking Chilton,
28:24it means they're both,
28:24dropping off the back,
28:25of Adam Morgan now,
28:26there's a driving standards flag,
28:28for track limit offences,
28:30for Dan Robux,
28:30from the race leader,
28:31so he's got to be careful,
28:32any more of these,
28:33and he might be up for a penalty,
28:35so Paul Ridgway,
28:36his engineer will be on the radio,
28:37telling Dan just to be mindful,
28:38of how wide he's running,
28:40at corners,
28:40but that's easier said than done,
28:42when you've got somebody,
28:42bearing down on you,
28:44well we don't want another,
28:45Napa Racing victory,
28:46sort of under,
28:47under question afterwards,
28:48do we,
28:49we already had that,
28:49in the first race,
28:50with Dan Camish,
28:51we don't want another one,
28:52so Robux,
28:54a little bit further ahead,
28:55coming towards Bentley Straight,
28:56over Dan Lloyd,
28:58a big, big battle,
28:59it's even harder to,
29:00be an inch perfect,
29:01to the track limit,
29:02you can see the top three,
29:03they have just entered away,
29:04a bit from this Chilton smiley fight,
29:05right,
29:06really important to note,
29:08both the front two,
29:09Robux and Lloyd,
29:10only have one lap of boost each,
29:12the man on the charge,
29:13is that man Morgan,
29:14who's managed to shake off,
29:16the intentions of Chilton,
29:17and Morgan has four laps,
29:19of boost left,
29:20so he can go,
29:22to the end of the race,
29:23using boost every lap,
29:24that's a huge advantage,
29:26but he needs to get past Lloyd's,
29:27quickly,
29:28if he's to mount a charge,
29:29on Robux,
29:30who is getting away,
29:31because now that Lloyd,
29:31is going defensive,
29:33that's the get out of jail,
29:34free card,
29:34for Robux,
29:35isn't it,
29:35so the,
29:36Napa Racing UK,
29:37Cataclyne Ford,
29:38comes then up,
29:39towards the timing line,
29:40touch of the curve there,
29:41look from Morgan,
29:42but now he could be,
29:43on the boost again,
29:44potentially,
29:44yes it goes green,
29:45so does Chilton behind him,
29:46so does Smiley on that graphic,
29:47that means they're using the power,
29:48here comes Morgan,
29:49up the inside,
29:50and he should be able,
29:51to get past Dan Lloyd,
29:52by the end,
29:53of the straight,
29:55and he's cleared,
29:55the black Hyundai,
29:56so Morgan goes through,
29:57and he's looking,
29:58very strong indeed,
29:59Robux leads,
30:00but can he get,
30:01to the end ahead,
30:02yeah that was,
30:03very good use,
30:03of the,
30:04Toka turbo boost,
30:06there Morgan,
30:06saved it up,
30:07used it up,
30:08the long uphill section,
30:10out of Murray's,
30:10the final corner,
30:12and,
30:13he's,
30:13he's,
30:14used it perfectly,
30:15if he can,
30:15use it for the next few laps,
30:17which he's got it for,
30:18and get behind Robotham,
30:19another pass,
30:20could be just as easy,
30:21so with,
30:22just under three laps to go,
30:24the leading quintet,
30:24comes now,
30:25down towards,
30:26Agostini,
30:27the left hander,
30:28at turn four,
30:29the gap between,
30:30Robotham and Morgan,
30:31at the start of the lap,
30:32was eight tenths,
30:33of a second,
30:34more driving standards flags,
30:35are being flushed,
30:35one is to Jake Hill,
30:37and another one also now,
30:38is to,
30:39newcomer,
30:40Ryan Bensley,
30:40who,
30:41in his second ever,
30:42BTCC race,
30:43is in 18th place,
30:44there is the,
30:44patch streaming down,
30:46towards Agostini,
30:46one or two,
30:47looking offline,
30:47to see,
30:48what might be ahead of them,
30:49like Dexter Patterson,
30:50as there are the race leaders,
30:51so,
30:52at the end of sector one,
30:53Robotham was quicker,
30:54and Morgan,
30:56a little fractionally,
30:57yeah,
30:58Morgan back on the boost,
30:59down the,
30:59back straight,
31:00he'll be gaining,
31:01all the time he's using,
31:02that this is a,
31:03this race a great demonstration,
31:05of how effective that is,
31:07Charles Rainford's view,
31:08then now coming on,
31:09to Bentley Straits,
31:10ahead of Rainford,
31:11is Ash Sutton,
31:12so,
31:13another place may well be lost,
31:14by the champ,
31:16of the seasons past,
31:17before long,
31:17because Sutton is,
31:18certainly being caught,
31:19by the flying BMW,
31:20right,
31:21Morgan,
31:21hasn't necessarily,
31:23necessarily,
31:23capitalised on this lap,
31:25he's chipped away,
31:25a little bit more,
31:26as I say,
31:27the gap was 0.869 of a second,
31:28and then it was first to third,
31:30when they came across the line,
31:31you can see what it is,
31:32at the end of the lap,
31:33as down they drop,
31:33towards turn 12,
31:34once again,
31:35Robotham trying to hang on in there,
31:37and there are other battles,
31:38to be resolved,
31:39lower down the order as well,
31:40there,
31:40look,
31:41Sutton versus Rainford,
31:42and Jake Hill,
31:43charging along behind them,
31:45yeah,
31:45Hill in 11th place,
31:46possibility,
31:47of another place,
31:48or two for him,
31:49if it all works out,
31:50for the end of this race,
31:52Morgan is close,
31:53he used a boost,
31:54again up that long start,
31:55straight,
31:56that gap is down,
31:58a little bit,
31:58I think,
31:59visually it looks down,
32:01Robotham has still got,
32:02one lap left,
32:03keeping it in reserve,
32:04but Morgan can throw,
32:05a bit more at this,
32:06we have got,
32:07two laps to go,
32:08Morgan has got,
32:09still a bonus lap,
32:10if you like,
32:10he's got one more lap,
32:11boost over Robotham,
32:12who is soaking up,
32:13all of this pressure,
32:14he may have lost the lead,
32:15for about four corners,
32:17against Dan Lloyd,
32:17but he has,
32:18been able to defend,
32:19really well,
32:20other than that,
32:21he's not put a wheel,
32:21out of line,
32:22but Morgan is closing,
32:23all the while,
32:23as they drop now,
32:24down to turn four,
32:25well Morgan's,
32:26got to do it,
32:26on this lap,
32:27because Robotham has,
32:28saved his,
32:29until the last lap,
32:30he'll have it to defend,
32:31so I suggest,
32:33Morgan has probably,
32:33got the back straight,
32:35the Bentley straight,
32:36if he's got enough,
32:37of his 15 seconds,
32:38of boost left,
32:40that's the place,
32:40to use it,
32:42so let's see then,
32:43as they turn,
32:44now,
32:44through,
32:45turn six,
32:46onto seven,
32:47onto the Bentley straight,
32:48behind them,
32:48it's still Boyd,
32:49and Chilton's smiling,
32:50Morgan doesn't look,
32:51close enough,
32:51to attempt us again,
32:53but let's see,
32:53as they come now,
32:54onto the straight,
32:55Robotham uses the boost,
32:56Morgan uses the boost,
32:58so Dan Robotham,
32:59interestingly,
32:59doing it now,
33:00and Morgan is still,
33:01using the boost,
33:02to get a little bit closer,
33:03as they come now,
33:04down to the Essie's,
33:04once again,
33:05but he's not near enough,
33:06to attack,
33:07no but it does mean,
33:07then that,
33:08that Robotham,
33:11won't have it,
33:12for the last lap,
33:13Dan Lloyd,
33:14has used all of his,
33:14as well as he tries,
33:15to hang on to third place,
33:16replay here,
33:17Charles Rainford,
33:18on Ash Sutton,
33:19Rainford gets up the inside,
33:20charges through,
33:22Sutton looks for the inside line,
33:23on the way out of the corner,
33:24can't do it,
33:24Robotham still looks,
33:26far enough ahead,
33:26doesn't he?
33:27He does,
33:28he's doing a magnificent job,
33:29we saw,
33:30the fight in him,
33:31when Dan Lloyd passed him,
33:33and have we had a change,
33:34we have for third place,
33:35Tom Chilton,
33:36up into third,
33:37ahead of Dan Lloyd,
33:39who's trying to fight back,
33:40so Lloyd,
33:40who briefly led,
33:42has now been shuffled back,
33:43in the queue,
33:43and he's got no more boost,
33:44nor is Robotham,
33:45so,
33:46Morgan,
33:47half a second back,
33:48it's now or never Adam,
33:49last lap of the race,
33:50he's got boost on this lap,
33:51Robotham has none,
33:53yeah,
33:53well that's a difference,
33:54to the policy,
33:55most of the drivers,
33:57use it on the very last lap,
33:59to defend,
33:59but Robotham's rolled the dice,
34:02and used it on the penultimate lap,
34:03may be great thinking,
34:04but look,
34:05he's going to have to defend,
34:06as if his life depends on it,
34:08from Morgan on this lap,
34:09with Morgan using the boost,
34:10half a second was the gap,
34:12in the start of the lap,
34:12and Adam Morgan is just,
34:14not quite close enough,
34:15is he,
34:15Chilton is there,
34:16third,
34:17it's still Lloyd,
34:18fourth,
34:18it's Smiley fifth,
34:19and as they come towards turn four,
34:21Adam Morgan is running out of corners,
34:23running out of options,
34:24that Napa Ford,
34:25has never been able,
34:26to build anything of a gap,
34:27but Dan Robotham,
34:28has been able to fight,
34:29back into the race lead,
34:30and defend,
34:31superbly,
34:32to make sure,
34:33that there is no way by,
34:34for Adam Morgan,
34:36and again,
34:36we've almost done,
34:37half the lap,
34:38because when you come onto Bentley straight,
34:39you'll have done,
34:40about two and a half kilometres,
34:41of a lap,
34:42that is not quite,
34:43five kilometres,
34:44in terms of length,
34:45in other words,
34:46half of the last lap,
34:47is now done,
34:48and,
34:48I mean,
34:49Dan Robotham,
34:50not surprisingly,
34:51is absolutely,
34:53toying with the limits,
34:54of track limits,
34:55he's all over the road,
34:57trying to stay in front,
34:58here comes,
35:00here comes Morgan,
35:00has he got enough,
35:01no he hasn't,
35:02maybe he has enough,
35:03for the run up,
35:04to the line though,
35:05maybe,
35:06he's gonna have to stay,
35:06really close,
35:07to the ball,
35:07all the way through,
35:08these last few corners,
35:09that still looks,
35:10to be about two lengths,
35:11too far back,
35:12and Adam will be,
35:12as frustrated,
35:13as anybody,
35:14because he's just,
35:14not quite near enough,
35:15they sweep,
35:16through Bobhole,
35:17Chilton there,
35:17still ahead,
35:18of the Lloyd's,
35:18Smiley twins,
35:19for restarts,
35:19another one too,
35:20in the independence,
35:21competition for them,
35:22as the,
35:23field that comes out,
35:24of Corham for the last time,
35:25but Robotham looks like,
35:26he has done enough,
35:27the gap is still there,
35:28between him and Morgan,
35:32in the gaming line,
35:33it is to go to be,
35:34in round eight,
35:34of the quick fit,
35:35British touring car championship,
35:37a win for Dan Robotham,
35:38the third of his career,
35:39Robotham wins,
35:40Morgan is second,
35:41third top Chilton,
35:42and then fourth and fifth,
35:44across the line together,
35:45Dan Lloyd,
35:45just ahead of Chris Smiley,
35:46who got the best lap,
35:47of the race,
35:48Mikey Doval takes sixth,
35:50and that must have been,
35:50the hardest race,
35:51of Dan Robotham's life,
35:53because for all of the 12 laps,
35:54he was under fire,
35:55well he drove,
35:56absolutely brilliantly,
35:58he showed tremendous fight,
36:00got to the front,
36:01lost the lead to Lloyd,
36:03but retook it,
36:04and managed his boost,
36:05and defensive driving,
36:07perfectly,
36:08to the end,
36:09and we just had,
36:10Patterson and Hall,
36:11the two teammates,
36:12side by side,
36:12at the flag,
36:13and Patterson was ahead,
36:14of Hall,
36:15by seven thousandths,
36:16of a second,
36:17the lead gap,
36:180.355,
36:20so Adam Morgan,
36:21so so close,
36:23but Dan Robotham,
36:25just had the ultimate edge,
36:27yeah,
36:27just the edge,
36:28but a fine race,
36:29between the two of them,
36:29former teammates,
36:32in the days of Sicily Motorsport,
36:33and Mercedes A-Class,
36:34and a great reception,
36:36for Dan Robotham,
36:36and for Adam Morgan,
36:37look at the teams,
36:38hanging out the wires,
36:39to cheer them both home,
36:40but that win,
36:40has been a long time coming,
36:42it's been a pretty,
36:43tough last couple of seasons,
36:44for Dan Robotham,
36:46Dave Kelly,
36:46in the black cap,
36:47his long time,
36:48number one mechanic,
36:50joining in the celebrations,
36:51and he'll feel that,
36:52as much as Dan Robotham himself,
36:53there's been a lot of success,
36:58already for Napa Racing,
36:59this weekend,
37:00with minis as well,
37:01as touring cars,
37:02but here's the result,
37:03of round eight,
37:04Dan Robotham,
37:05takes a race win,
37:06the third of his career,
37:07ahead of Adam Morgan,
37:08and Tom Chilton,
37:09and then,
37:10the leading independents,
37:11Dan Lloyd,
37:11wins for the second time today,
37:13ahead of Chris Smiley,
37:14and Mikey Doble,
37:15and then Josh Cook,
37:15seventh,
37:16Sam Osborne,
37:17eighth,
37:17ahead of Charles Rainford,
37:18and Ash Sutton,
37:19rounded out the top ten,
37:20on the hard tyre,
37:21remember,
37:2211th,
37:22Jake Hill,
37:23from near the back of the grid,
37:24from Aaron Taylor-Smith,
37:25then Ronan Pearson,
37:26and James Dawlin,
37:27Daryl De Leon,
37:28took the last point,
37:29ahead of Aidan Moffat,
37:30Gordon Shedden,
37:31with a rebuilt car,
37:3217th,
37:32ahead of Stephen Jelly,
37:33then Ryan Bensley,
37:34and also on the hard tyre,
37:35Dan Kamish,
37:36in 20th,
37:3721st,
37:39Dexter Patterson,
37:40Max Hall,
37:40came next,
37:41ahead of Nick Hamilton,
37:42and Nick Halstead,
37:43only one retirement,
37:44and a very significant one,
37:46Tom Ingram,
37:47with the damage done,
37:48after it got all sideways,
37:49and he clanged the armco,
37:50coming out,
37:51of the right hander,
37:52at Rich's.
37:56So take that,
37:57into consideration,
37:58and as far as,
37:59the championship is concerned,
38:00Ash Sutton leads,
38:0210 points ahead,
38:02of Tom Ingram,
38:03Jake Hill's third,
38:04Dan Rowbottom though,
38:05charges up to third equal,
38:07with Jake Hill,
38:07Tom Chilton,
38:08is tied on points,
38:09with Adam Morgan,
38:10Dan Kamish,
38:11only three ahead,
38:12of Chris Smiley,
38:13and then it's,
38:13Charles Rainford,
38:14and Josh Cook,
38:15eight races in,
38:16this is shaping up nicely,
38:17so Dan Rowbottom,
38:21then,
38:21lights are flashing,
38:22to the marshals,
38:23makes his way around,
38:24on his in lap,
38:25and that will be,
38:26a very happy,
38:27very relieved driver,
38:28as well,
38:29tough winter,
38:29with his heart surgery,
38:31really difficult season,
38:32last year,
38:33where,
38:33lots of things,
38:35including his health,
38:36of course,
38:36were on his mind,
38:37and the results,
38:38didn't come,
38:38and he's been able,
38:39to put that behind him,
38:40he's come out,
38:40like a new driver,
38:42this year,
38:42and that will,
38:43remind the doubters,
38:44that Dan Rowbottom,
38:46can win in the BTCC,
38:47he's not just here,
38:48because he's got a,
38:49very active sponsor,
38:50he can deliver,
38:50he can race,
38:51and boy,
38:52can he defend.
38:52Yeah,
38:53that was a great race,
38:54we featured Dan,
38:56and his journey,
38:56with his heart surgery,
38:58in the top of the show,
38:59if you didn't see it,
39:00have a look at that,
39:01it's quite a moving,
39:02piece,
39:03and you can imagine,
39:04for him,
39:05to come back from that,
39:06this is,
39:07and revisit,
39:08the winner's rostrum,
39:09it must be a,
39:10a huge emotional,
39:12journey for him.
39:13Absolutely right,
39:14and the final,
39:16piece of the jigsaw,
39:17is the technical checks,
39:18from which the car,
39:19will then be released,
39:20up to,
39:21Park Fairmay,
39:22a winning margin,
39:22of just three tenths,
39:23of a second,
39:24we talk about,
39:25Dan Rowbottom,
39:26coming out like a,
39:27a new man this year,
39:28so is Adam Morgan,
39:29who just looks so much happier,
39:30in a front wheel drive car,
39:31once again,
39:32he's been on the pace,
39:33at every event this year,
39:34he's been a regular,
39:35podium finisher,
39:36he's been a regular,
39:37front runner,
39:38and that second place,
39:39perhaps illustrating,
39:40that it was the right move,
39:41to go to,
39:43a front wheel drive car,
39:44once again,
39:44and Tom Chilton,
39:45also having a good season,
39:46he's been a race winner,
39:47there's another podium,
39:48for him,
39:49and what about those,
39:49restart racing Hyundai's,
39:50as well,
39:51I know Dan Lloyd led,
39:52and then dropped back to fourth,
39:53but even so,
39:54great to see,
39:54how far that team has come,
39:56yeah very much so,
39:57there's some good drivers,
39:58in good cars,
39:59and been some good work,
40:00over the winter,
40:01the one disappointment,
40:02really for me,
40:03and I don't,
40:04sort of,
40:05say this lightly,
40:06but,
40:06Josh Cook,
40:07and the one motorsport team,
40:08although Josh Cook,
40:09has got a seventh place there,
40:12the speed,
40:12just isn't in the car,
40:13is it,
40:14that we would have expected,
40:15more of Josh Cook,
40:16that car,
40:18is a great car,
40:18the Honda,
40:19lovely to have it,
40:20back in the championship,
40:21maybe the team,
40:22are finding their feet,
40:23a little bit here,
40:24but with the M Sport engine,
40:26same engine,
40:26that's in,
40:27Mikey Domen's car,
40:29you'd expect them,
40:30to be a little bit higher,
40:31so they're the ones,
40:31I think,
40:32that have got a little bit,
40:32improvement to come,
40:33and of course,
40:34Thruxton coming up,
40:35will,
40:36is Cookies home circuit,
40:37isn't it?
40:38And it's where he always,
40:38goes so well,
40:39especially in Honda Civic,
40:41so Dan Rowbottom arrives,
40:43to the,
40:43winners,
40:45space within,
40:46Park Fairway,
40:47and there'll be a big,
40:49big cheer for him,
40:50no doubt,
40:51Dan Rowbottom,
40:52goes through the,
40:53routine of undoing his belt,
40:55out of the car,
40:55a very,
40:56very happy man,
40:57indeed,
40:57and understandably so,
40:59he walks across,
41:00to the,
41:00Napa Racing,
41:02UK team,
41:04and Dan Rowbottom,
41:05takes a third,
41:06British Touring Car,
41:07Championship career win,
41:08and he can reflect on that,
41:10right after the break.
41:13Second race of the Touring Car,
41:17day,
41:18hard tyres versus soft,
41:19at Snetterton,
41:20how long could the hards last?
41:21First big casualty,
41:22was Tom Ingram,
41:23the first setback,
41:24in his consistent season,
41:26Dan Rowbottom,
41:27the leader,
41:28Lloyd and Rowbottom,
41:29traded the lead,
41:29they were running out of boost,
41:31Morgan in third,
41:32had a lot more,
41:33but couldn't make it count,
41:34a famous,
41:35and popular win,
41:36for Dan Rowbottom,
41:37ahead of Adam Morgan,
41:38and Tom Chilton,
41:39let's go to Louise.
41:40Yeah,
41:41a fantastic race,
41:42and a fantastic win,
41:43Dan,
41:43I mean that was amazing to watch,
41:44what was it like from inside the car,
41:46slightly nerve wracking at times,
41:47I would imagine.
41:48It was hard work,
41:49I've got to be honest,
41:50we were a bit lacking on hybrid,
41:51compared to Adam and Dan,
41:52and Dan put up a real tough fight,
41:54with about three laps to go,
41:55thought I'm going to have to use some hybrid,
41:57we don't have a lot,
41:58but managed to get back past him,
41:59and take the win,
42:00but Adam was coming,
42:01I didn't celebrate it all across the line,
42:02so I was looking in the mirror,
42:03I was like it's going to come,
42:04but it didn't,
42:05so it was great,
42:06the car's fantastic today,
42:07it's been great all weekend actually,
42:08so we just keep tweaking,
42:09and keep tweaking,
42:09and hopefully some more wins.
42:11What does this win mean though,
42:12because you've wanted this very hard,
42:14haven't you,
42:15what's it going to do for you?
42:16Excuse the pun,
42:17but it's been a bit of a dry spell,
42:19yeah I mean yeah of course,
42:20we do want to win races,
42:21my target is a challenge for the title,
42:24at the end of the day,
42:25and if I'm quite honest,
42:26I'm not that proud,
42:26if I got to brands and won it,
42:28and never won another race again,
42:29I'd be quite happy,
42:30so to pick up wins along the way,
42:31is obviously fantastic,
42:32and it's just testament,
42:34to how hard everybody works,
42:35and it was a really dark weekend at brands,
42:36we really struggled with our car,
42:38and they worked hard in the last two weeks,
42:39and got it back on top,
42:40so all credit to Nappa Race in the UK.
42:42Great to see,
42:42well done you,
42:43I'll let you go and have a word with Steve,
42:45get ready to make the reverse grid,
42:47to see where everybody else,
42:48is going to be lining up,
42:49but also I mean what a great race for you as well,
42:51you had more boost,
42:52but boy you used it well.
42:53It was tricky,
42:55you know,
42:56the early laps,
42:56trying to manage the hard tyre runners,
42:58get through there,
42:59and get past them safely,
43:01was tricky,
43:02once again I fluffed the start,
43:04I've raced too,
43:04but it's one of them,
43:06we came back through,
43:08I think I managed it relatively well,
43:10up until the last lap,
43:11when I nearly threw it off at turn five,
43:13which gave Dan the gap he needed,
43:17but amazing,
43:19you know,
43:19we're back on the podium,
43:20second weekend in a row now,
43:22good haul of points,
43:24and we all look forward to the hard tyres.
43:26Looking very comfortable in the car,
43:28as it does have to be said,
43:29and alongside you standing on the podium,
43:31will be your team mate,
43:32another great race for you as well,
43:34back on the podium again.
43:36Lots of fun,
43:37lots of fun,
43:38I'm happy for the team,
43:39that we've obviously got a double podium,
43:41it's great for the points,
43:42for the championship,
43:42obviously,
43:43for me and Adam,
43:45to have finished so high up,
43:46and the fact that obviously Jake's struggled a bit,
43:50this weekend at the BMW,
43:52so obviously in front of both of me and Adam,
43:54is Jake,
43:54so we're closing down the gap,
43:56we're hunting them down,
43:57we can smell the blood.
44:00That's all the good news,
44:01on the not so good news,
44:02you've got the hard tyre to come next race,
44:03haven't you?
44:04Sorry to bring you down.
44:05Yeah,
44:05that's not great,
44:06is it?
44:06I've seen everyone else on it,
44:07it doesn't look great,
44:08does it?
44:09But,
44:10you know,
44:10it is what it is,
44:11I've got one race left,
44:13and I'm happy,
44:13so,
44:14you know,
44:15I want to end happy,
44:16but we're on the hard,
44:17so we'll do our best.
44:18I have no doubt whatsoever that you will,
44:20we will see you out there for the final race,
44:22let's go over to Steve now,
44:23to see where everybody's going to be started.
44:26Yeah,
44:26I've got Dan Rowbottom down here,
44:28we're about to make the reverse grid draw,
44:31and,
44:31there are wins and there are wins,
44:34that was an emotional one.
44:35It was tough actually,
44:36it was a hard last couple of laps,
44:37we were under a lot of pressure,
44:39obviously there's been a lot of hype around,
44:40what's happened to me over the winter this weekend,
44:42so,
44:42I was trying not to let that get in the back of my head,
44:44but yeah,
44:45we took the win and it's a great way to,
44:47great way to sort of bow out the weekend,
44:49we've got the hard tyre now,
44:50so,
44:51we're not going to win another one.
44:53Tense last few laps with Adam,
44:55and the boost ticking away,
44:58and all the decisions to make in the car.
45:00I mean,
45:00Dan had a really good run with about four laps to go,
45:02he had more boost than us,
45:04and he put up a really good fight,
45:05luckily I managed to sneak past him,
45:07but I had to use another lap of boost,
45:08so,
45:09honestly,
45:09I didn't celebrate over the line,
45:10I was just looking in the mirror waiting for Adam,
45:12but we just about held him off,
45:13so it was a great race.
45:14Well,
45:14you were familiar with the old reverse grid draw,
45:16this is a bit different,
45:17we've got things to unscrew here,
45:19but we've also got some big names in that draw,
45:22in the bowl here are the drivers,
45:24who finished six through 12,
45:26and they include number six,
45:27Mikey Doble,
45:28number seven,
45:28Josh Cook,
45:29number eight,
45:30Sam Osborne,
45:31number nine,
45:31Charles Rainford,
45:32number 10,
45:33Ash Sutton,
45:34number 11,
45:35Jake Hill,
45:36and number 12,
45:37Aaron Taylor-Smith.
45:38Make the draw,
45:38and put one of those on pole position.
45:42This is the hard part,
45:44getting them unscrewed.
45:45Oh,
45:45well done.
45:46And I think,
45:48yeah,
45:48number six,
45:49Mikey Doble goes on pole position,
45:51minimum reshuffle,
45:53well done,
45:53you've still got a chance of big points in the last race,
45:55what do you think?
45:56Well,
45:56we've got a hard tyre,
45:57so we'll have to,
45:58I'll analyse what it was like with Ash and Dan,
45:59obviously,
46:00but I'm not holding up too many hopes,
46:02we'll just do the best we can.
46:03Okay,
46:03whatever happens,
46:04today is a day to remember,
46:05well done,
46:05Dan.
46:06Dan Rowbottom,
46:07our second race winner,
46:08here at Snetterton,
46:09we will take a break,
46:10and then we'll be back with the Porsche Carrera Cup,
46:12might have time for a bit more reaction,
46:14to what we've just seen.
46:15Back in a few minutes.
46:20We're standing by,
46:21for the Porsche Carrera Cup,
46:22to take to the track here,
46:23in just a few minutes,
46:24but we're also reflecting,
46:25on a very popular win,
46:27here in the second touring car championship race,
46:29for Dan Rowbottom,
46:30the most disappointed man,
46:32though,
46:32will be Tom Ingram,
46:33shunted off,
46:33and the first real setback,
46:36in what has been,
46:36a very consistent season so far.
46:38Let's get the thoughts of Tom,
46:39with Louise.
46:41Yeah,
46:42a frustrating race,
46:43I think it's fair to say,
46:44Thomas,
46:45just tell us what happened.
46:47It's fairly relaxing from my side,
46:48I spent it,
46:49sat in the garage.
46:51Ah,
46:52okay,
46:53I Tingram'd myself.
46:55Yeah.
46:55Yeah.
46:56Yeah.
46:57Yeah.
46:58You just ran riding.
47:00Suboptimal,
47:01I think that's known as.
47:01Yeah,
47:03just,
47:03as racing drivers,
47:06we could always find a good excuse.
47:07We could blame the wind,
47:08we could blame the hard tyre,
47:10we could blame picking up a little bit of debris.
47:12On this occasion,
47:14blame the driver.
47:15You're looking at the problem here.
47:16So,
47:17not ideal,
47:18but,
47:18I managed to get it in the barrier,
47:21if there is a saving grace,
47:23I managed to get it in the barrier fairly square,
47:24so actually the damage isn't too bad.
47:25So we should be fine for race three,
47:29with a soft tyre and loads of high,
47:31boost,
47:33TTB,
47:33I've got to try and remember what it's called,
47:35every time I forget that.
47:36So,
47:36yes,
47:37not ideal,
47:38and frustrating,
47:40obviously,
47:40but,
47:41yeah,
47:41hands up on this one.
47:42I guess these things happen,
47:44pretty much every driver is going to have a race to forget
47:45during the course of the season.
47:48On the plus side,
47:48it was a great race for a couple of your teammates,
47:50and I love the fact that you've made your way down here,
47:52specifically,
47:52so you could find out where you're starting in the next race,
47:55but also so you could see the guys on the podium.
47:57Yeah,
47:57as Team Virtue,
47:58we've had an amazing result.
47:59You know,
47:59so far,
47:59we've had a car on the podium every single round this season,
48:03so it's been an amazing start that we want to really,
48:05really keep going.
48:06So,
48:06yeah,
48:06I just thought I'd try and,
48:07I was trying to hide around the corner here,
48:08so I can just kind of get a glimpse of the podium to see,
48:11to see Adam and Tom jump up there.
48:13So,
48:14yeah,
48:14it'll be nice to see.
48:15So,
48:15yeah,
48:15it's going to be an interesting final race,
48:17with a soft tyre,
48:21plenty of TTB,
48:22and a short,
48:25only six cars reversed.
48:27So,
48:27that's going to be quite an interesting one to see how that pans out.
48:29How high up the grid do you think you are going to be able to get?
48:32I know that's how long is a piece of string question,
48:34but what's your aim?
48:34I don't know,
48:35is a simple answer.
48:36We'll try our best to obviously get as far up as we can,
48:38that goes without saying.
48:38So,
48:39if we can,
48:39if we can,
48:40if we can,
48:40if we can scramble some,
48:41some decent points out of it,
48:42that'll obviously be a good result.
48:43The nice thing is,
48:44is obviously with a lot of,
48:45with a lot of boost in the car,
48:46it's going to feel alive,
48:47and not something I've been,
48:48I've been used to obviously this year.
48:49So,
48:50it's going to be,
48:50it's going to be nice,
48:51and especially going onto a soft tyre with plenty of boost.
48:53So,
48:53yeah,
48:54we'll be trying our best to get as high up as we can.
48:56Enjoy it.
48:57Steve,
48:57back to you.
48:58Thanks,
48:59Louise.
48:59Thanks,
48:59Tom.
49:00He's optimistic,
49:01but he's always optimistic.
49:03All the ingredients are there for a real Tom Ingram flyer in race three.
49:07I've never seen someone look so happy to throw themselves off a racetrack during a race,
49:10to be honest.
49:11Seems pretty pleased with himself.
49:13Yeah,
49:14I mean,
49:14we can see it there.
49:15He just made an error.
49:16I thought exactly the same as him.
49:18He managed to actually do really well to keep it out the wall.
49:21Paul and I would say that we've seen so many cars just absolutely muller themselves into that armcoast.
49:25So,
49:25he did well,
49:26but that is a DNF for Ingram and a loss of points.
49:29But,
49:29yeah,
49:29race three is going to be interesting.
49:30These homeowners are quick at the best of times,
49:32let alone when he's got full boost.
49:34So,
49:34yeah,
49:35he's going to be churning up some tarmac,
49:36I think.
49:37Yeah,
49:37full boost,
49:38soft tyres,
49:38and as he said,
49:40minimum disruption in the reverse grid draw.
49:42Yeah,
49:42exactly,
49:43and that's a great thing for him.
49:44I've got to say,
49:46there's one thing I took from that interview,
49:47and that is,
49:49he was quite happy,
49:50as in,
49:51like,
49:51he didn't damage the car badly,
49:53but the other thing was,
49:54as well,
49:54he just knows how fast his car is,
49:57I think,
49:57and that,
49:57if you've got not a fast car,
49:59you'd be really gutted about that.
50:01I can't remember ever seeing Tom Ingram having that problem before,
50:04so,
50:05just shows you how difficult the hard tyre is.
50:07Yeah,
50:07thoughts about Darren Rowbottom,
50:08we started the programme with quite a moving analysis of the heart problems that he'd had in the close season,
50:15the battle to get back,
50:17and that victory is so important,
50:18isn't it?
50:18Absolutely,
50:19I've just seen him there and said,
50:20that would have put your ticker through its paces initially,
50:22and he seems pretty happy with it.
50:24He had to fight for it,
50:25you know,
50:25there was times where he lost the lead,
50:27and he gained it back,
50:28he drove really,
50:29really well,
50:29I mean,
50:29I'm not going to spend too much time being really nice to him,
50:31because that's not how we do things with Dan Rowbottom,
50:33but,
50:34yeah,
50:34happy for him,
50:35he definitely needed it for his own mentality,
50:37and for his championship fight as well.
50:39With the boost advantage that Adam Morgan had,
50:41were you surprised he didn't get closer?
50:44Not really,
50:45I thought,
50:45well,
50:46did you see all of the track,
50:47like,
50:47that Dan was using to keep in front?
50:50Do you know what I've got to say?
50:51That's the best I've seen the boost perform,
50:53I thought it was excellent,
50:54it was a real strategic move by all the drivers in the top five,
50:57and how they used it,
50:59it was great,
50:59but,
51:00yeah,
51:00I wasn't surprised,
51:01Dan's a quality peddler,
51:03and he did everything right,
51:05just to get it over the line then.
51:06Yeah,
51:06the boost and the tyre regulations are really working well,
51:09aren't they?
51:10They're mixing up the grids,
51:11they're mixing up the action as well.
51:13Yeah,
51:13I really enjoyed the front pack of that race there,
51:16we had,
51:17obviously,
51:17the championship contenders initially start the race,
51:20and hold on as best they can,
51:21and then we had the slight underdogs coming through,
51:24and they were really digging into each other,
51:25but in a proper touring car way,
51:27and I love the fact that the positions were changing constantly,
51:30but there was no taking each other off,
51:32it was genuine,
51:33really good racing,
51:34and I stood in the garage and watched it,
51:36and I really enjoyed it.
51:37Well,
51:37the ultimate mixed up grid is coming up next,
51:39we've got Mikey Doble on pole positioning,
51:42he's no slouch,
51:42he's a great story as well,
51:44but before that,
51:44we've got,
