00:00:00The quick fit British Touring Car Championship arrives in Norfolk for three races around the challenging Snetterton circuit.
00:00:10And that's after a race day at Brands Hatch two weeks ago that changed the face of the title battle.
00:00:15We welcomed a new generation of race winners, back came the defending champion Jake Hill and back came BMW in record breaking fashion.
00:00:30Great start made by Jake Hill, Charles Rayford getting a good launch to go second.
00:00:37Jake Hill wins at Brands Hatch, the reigning champion claims glory in race one of the day.
00:00:43Great one too for BMW.
00:00:45De Leon for the lead on the inside, Daryl De Leon leads the British Touring Car Championship race for the first time.
00:00:51Daryl De Leon wins in the British Touring Car Championship for the first time.
00:00:55It's such a good feeling when you see that checkered flag.
00:00:58Rayford gets the inside line for Druids, Charles Rayford is in the lead.
00:01:02Charles Rayford a first time winner in the BTCC.
00:01:06Just unbelievable.
00:01:08All we can do for Snetterton I'm really excited to see.
00:01:14After all the frustrations of the opening day at Donington, three wins for BMW at Brands Hatch meant that West Surrey Racing arrive at Snetterton as the most successful team in touring car history.
00:01:25First time winners help them to the record.
00:01:28Charles Rayford with a beautifully judged drive in the reverse grid race.
00:01:31Daryl De Leon making his tire advantage count in race two.
00:01:35And that was after reigning champion Jake Hill had shown that BMW were back with victory from pole position in race one.
00:01:43That winner has taken him back to the right end of the championship standings.
00:01:47He sits in the top three among some quality company.
00:01:50Ash Sutton still leads the pack after notching up his 100th podium at Brands Hatch.
00:01:55And Tom Ingram is in second following an impressive start to the season, claiming five podiums across the opening six races.
00:02:02Ingram's consistency has helped team virtue to the top of the team standings ahead of Napa and West Surrey.
00:02:09And it also means that Accelerate Hyundai lead BMW and Alliance Ford in the manufacturers.
00:02:15Among the independents, Chris Smiley's good start to the season continued with two top five finishes at Brands Hatch.
00:02:22He leads Mikey Doble and Josh Cook in the drivers championship.
00:02:26And Smiley's restart racing lead power maxed in the independent teams.
00:02:31And the Jack Sears trophy, once seen as the kind of rookie championship,
00:02:35now has three out and out race winners at the top of the standings.
00:02:39Daryl De Leon and Charles Rainford with Ronan Pearson, who was a race winner last season.
00:02:44So, the third weekend of the 10-stop season takes us to Snetterton, some 20 miles south of Norwich,
00:02:51for round seven, eight and nine.
00:02:53And we're on the longest circuit on the schedule.
00:02:55The Snetterton 300 layout, just under three miles in length.
00:02:59And this is where Jake Hill had one of his best days of the season on his way to the title last year.
00:03:04Pole position and two wins. Hill and the BMWs love it round here.
00:03:09So, good morning from Snetterton and welcome to Tim Harvey.
00:03:14Yes, the BMWs do love it around Snetterton.
00:03:18They love it at Brands Hatch now as well.
00:03:20But to go from the shortest circuit on the schedule to the longest is a bit of a challenge in its own right.
00:03:25Yeah, totally different set of circumstances here at Snetterton.
00:03:28In fairness, it's favoured front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive in the past have been equal split of winners.
00:03:35Yes, BMW did really well last year here.
00:03:38Yes, they did really well at Brands Hatch.
00:03:40But we have to see whether that form will translate into this circuit this year and these weather conditions.
00:03:45To say Jake Hill did pretty well and BMW did pretty well here last year is a bit of an understatement.
00:03:50It was the most dominant Jake Hill victory or the most dominant victory we've seen in British Touring Car Championship history.
00:03:56A 10-second penalty and a 16-second win.
00:03:59Yeah, and he still won.
00:04:00But it was weather-affected, Steve, that race.
00:04:02But nevertheless, he was absolutely majestic and drove away into the distance to overcome that 10-second penalty.
00:04:08I don't think it'll be quite the same story this weekend.
00:04:10Although there is a bit of rain around, there is.
00:04:13We welcome two new race winners to West Surrey Racing.
00:04:17So he's got some competition internally, Jake.
00:04:19Charles Rainford, in particular, looks like the real deal.
00:04:22Yeah, they both did.
00:04:23Charles Rainford and Daryl De Leon.
00:04:25They seized their moment.
00:04:27They seized their opportunity.
00:04:28They looked like veterans of touring car racing, making overtakes, not making mistakes once they were in the lead and bringing the car home.
00:04:36They've still some learning to do in this championship.
00:04:39Jake and his relationship with Craig, his engineer, is a very strong one.
00:04:43And we know how important that relationship is in getting the most out of the car consistently over the year.
00:04:49But it was fantastic to welcome two new winners to the club.
00:04:53And they have big, bright futures ahead of them.
00:04:56Yeah, and Daryl De Leon, such a youthful talent.
00:04:59And we know that talent has been, the potential has been there for some time.
00:05:04I mean, he is such a quality driver.
00:05:05Yeah, he is.
00:05:06We saw that.
00:05:07You always see in, with no disrespect to Unlimited, because they're a great little team.
00:05:12But they weren't a front running team last year.
00:05:15And when a driver outperforms his car, you know he's got class and style, given then the opportunity in a front running car, which is now Godly's taken it.
00:05:23Yeah, but it's not all BMW.
00:05:25Let's just remind ourselves that Ash Sutton leads the championship.
00:05:28But you would imagine there's a pretty positive feeling over there in the West Surrey Racing Garage.
00:05:32And on the other side of the track, Paul O'Neill and Jade Edwards.
00:05:36And we can join them in the garage.
00:05:38Thanks, Steve.
00:05:39We're down here with the WSR team and John Waterman's here and Jade, obviously.
00:05:45John, was it a perfect storm at Brands Hatch?
00:05:48How well the car went with those three wins?
00:05:50Yeah, obviously you saw that on TV.
00:05:53Doddington was a very low grip circuit for us, which we struggled with, as you saw.
00:05:59And then very nicely, they resurfaced Brands just before the race.
00:06:05And yeah, we benefited massively from it.
00:06:08It was great to see, wasn't it, those wins?
00:06:10And you must have known you had a good chance of it.
00:06:13You've worked with these cars a long, long time.
00:06:15Is there anything else to come from them?
00:06:18Like you say, I have worked with these cars for a long time.
00:06:22Not really because, as you know, the pit lane, we all use common parts.
00:06:28So it's not like Formula One where you can redesign or design new things during the week
00:06:35that you can race for the weekend.
00:06:37So no, all we can really do is go back over the past years,
00:06:41look at previous setups at the same circuit and work from that.
00:06:47John, I want to ask you about the team in general.
00:06:50WSR are known for continuity, trying to keep the same drivers.
00:06:53This year you've got a lot of new faces in the team.
00:06:55Obviously Jake's back as champion, but then we've got some rookies and also some new names.
00:07:00How does the team as a whole manage that in, say, deep reefs and data?
00:07:04Is it complete open house?
00:07:05Is Jake leading in a way or is it kind of Aiden and Jake teaching the rookies along the way?
00:07:10To be quite honest, you call them rookies, but Charles is, you know, with his Porsche driving and that,
00:07:20he knows what it's about.
00:07:23Maybe Farrell is a little bit younger, but I think where Aiden helps mainly is the race craft.
00:07:30I think they know how to drive a car quickly.
00:07:32They know what they want from the car.
00:07:34The debriefs are very open.
00:07:37There's no real leader.
00:07:38I mean, it helps having Colin here this year as a driver coach, keeping me on board.
00:07:43So, yeah, there's no one person that leads it really.
00:07:46They all chip in.
00:07:47But like I said, Charles has got a lot of experience in the Porsches.
00:07:51And as you've seen already by his performance, I think, you know, for me, he's a bit of a dark horse this year.
00:07:55Absolutely.
00:07:56And one question from me is you've worked with many drivers over the years.
00:08:00How hard is it to understand Aiden in the middle of a race with his accent and his temper at times as well?
00:08:08Yes, that's a good question.
00:08:11Yeah, it is difficult.
00:08:14Unfortunately, this year we haven't got the aerial repeaters, which makes it even more difficult.
00:08:19Because I can only just about talk to him when he's out the front here.
00:08:23And quite often, Aiden, he does like to give you a bit of a running commentary in the race, which can be difficult to follow.
00:08:30Luckily, I do have his interpreter, his friend Alan Potts, comes along and does interpret it.
00:08:35But sometimes even he shrugs his shoulders when I look at him and say, what did he say?
00:08:39And he's like, I don't know.
00:08:40So, yeah, so we get there. It's all right. We get there.
00:08:43And finally, John, challenges for today. Looking forward to it. Should be difficult, but good.
00:08:48Yes, I think, like we said, when we came here, the circuit really good Friday night.
00:08:55And then we had all that rain and it's made it low grip again, a bit like Donington.
00:08:59So you can see we're not okay. In the real wet, we were good in practice.
00:09:05But I think we're going to struggle a little bit because of the low grip again.
00:09:09But I think because it's now soft tyre, that hopefully will come back into our own during the race.
00:09:14Super. Well, all the best and hope it goes well for you. Back to you guys.
00:09:18I have to say it was a bit of a reality check for West Surrey Racing in qualifying yesterday.
00:09:23We've got details coming right up. One new driver on the grid is Ryan Bensley.
00:09:29He's got experience in the TCR UK competition. Rather formal, distinctive overalls.
00:09:35He is a mortgage broker after all.
00:09:37Michael Cree steps aside at Team Virtue to give him the chance to race on his home circuit.
00:09:42Let's see how he and everyone else got on in yesterday's qualifying.
00:09:45David Addison reports on yesterday's action.
00:09:51Boost was always going to be a talking point here at Snetterson for qualifying on the longest lap of the season.
00:09:57And amidst drama aplenty, the other talking point was just how well both Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton managed to do with the limited amount of boost available to them.
00:10:08In Q1, with the field split into two groups, some big names were bound to disappear.
00:10:14Among them were Steven Jelly's One Motorsport Honda and Gordon Shedden's Toyota.
00:10:18But it was reigning champion Jake Hill on pole at Brands Hatch who went out after a lockup at the S's.
00:10:24It wasn't a perfect lap by me, by no means. Small lockup there on that last lap where I was going quite well.
00:10:29Fellow Brands winner Darrell De Leon went out as well and was mystified as to the lack of pace, leaving Charles Rainford as the sole BMW driver in Q2.
00:10:38He too went out, as did other big names like Josh Cook, while the restart racing Hyundai's Quick All Day were dumped out as well.
00:10:45So that left Dan Kamish, Ash Sutton and Dan Rowbottom for Napa Racing UK, squaring up against Team Virtue's Tom Ingram and Adam Morgan in the final six,
00:10:54joined by Mikey Dogel's Motor Parts Direct with Power Max Racing Vauxhall.
00:10:58And Sutton was in trouble, his Ford grinding to a halt with an alternator problem.
00:11:03That triggered a red flag with less than two minutes to go, so the drivers were given just one more flying lap.
00:11:09It didn't affect the order, meaning that a fully boosted up Dan Kamish took a second pole of the season.
00:11:15After last week, you know, there's not a better way to bounce back, is there, really, than show the team that, you know, we make mistakes.
00:11:23But under us, we've got a fantastic car, I've got an amazing team, a group of people around me.
00:11:27And, you know, proud of myself for putting last week behind me and coming out swinging today when it matters.
00:11:33Second quickest was an inspired Tom Ingram with just three seconds of boost, a mighty effort in the car, well hooked up.
00:11:40I think we're in a really, really good place, you know, with the car all weekend, to be honest.
00:11:45But it's felt amazing, it's felt really, really nice.
00:11:48And third was Dan Rowbottom's Ford, the Napa Racing UK driver taking his best qualifying effort of the season.
00:11:54We've had a good day, came in with a completely different philosophy in the car, it's working so far, so yeah, it's good.
00:12:01So, a second pole position of the season for the man who leads the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, Dan Kamish.
00:12:07Outside the top three, it was Mikey Doble fourth from Adam Morgan's Hyundai, while Ash Satter never got a time and will start sixth.
00:12:14And Paul O'Neill and Jade Edwards have now joined us in the studio to reflect on qualifying.
00:12:21Great qualifying performance once again from Dan Kamish because he's had a lot to reflect on over the course of the last two weeks after what happened to Brands Hatch.
00:12:30Yeah, absolutely, that would have been a tough situation for him, he's held his hands up, he would have been thinking about it for the last two weeks.
00:12:37But I want to make a point that that's something that's so easily done in that scenario, it's not easy.
00:12:42But he bounced back, he's shown what he can do, he's very, very fast, and I think he'll be one to watch today.
00:12:47He was very happy with his performance yesterday.
00:12:49And right alongside is Tom Ingram once again, an astonishing qualifying performance, virtually no boost and there he is up on the front row.
00:12:56Yeah, all I ever seem to be saying about Tom and that team is that was probably his best lap of his life.
00:13:02To do that with such limited boost is, like Tim said in commentary, it's actually scary for any other team.
00:13:09And I mean like really, really scary, to do that is phenomenal and everyone will be tongue wagging and going, what is going on?
00:13:16Yeah. But the other question, what is going on that everyone is asking, what is going on at West Surrey?
00:13:21What went wrong yesterday?
00:13:23Well, I've had a long chat with Craig Pauley, Jake Hill's engineer this morning, and he feels they could have been up there.
00:13:30But the circuit evaluation or development with rain and this track more than any other track can change even on the day, never mind day to day.
00:13:39And he just felt the track wasn't with them. It's not a grip problem, he says. It's not even a balance problem.
00:13:44So it's not like they had at Donington. He said they just didn't tie everything together, but they're very confident of their race pace.
00:13:51There we see Jake Hill going off. To me, it looked like cold front tyres. Craig says he was pushing a bit too hard too soon, but he feels that their overall race pace is still really good.
00:14:01Well, we'll wait to see if he's proved right, but they certainly don't have the dominant pace they had at Brands Hatch.
00:14:06And everything in terms of setup seems so marginal. It wasn't there at Donington. It was there at Brands Hatch. It disappeared again here at Snedderton.
00:14:12But that's the brilliant thing about the British touring cars is that it is such a small window to have a competitive car in that sense.
00:14:18And so as we saw at Brands, they absolutely dominated. But they said in, you know, the comment earlier was that the tarmac was different and that played into their advantage.
00:14:27But here we've come back and then now back to sort of where they were at Donington in a sense.
00:14:32But they have so much more knowledge and data from the previous two rounds. I think they'll use it to their advantage.
00:14:37And I spoke to Jake this morning. He's positive. He's ready to go. He knows he's got some work to do.
00:14:42But yeah, he's he's ready to fight throughout the day and end on a high at race three, hopefully.
00:14:47We'll talk a bit more about Dan Rowbottom in a few minutes time.
00:14:50He's on row two, along with Mikey Doble, another great qualifying performance.
00:14:54He's virtually a one man team. Yeah, it's always it's a difficult thing when you haven't got someone who is as quick as you as a teammate to bounce data off.
00:15:02But great stuff from Mikey. And I've got to say, any time I'm watching on board of that car, it just looks not easy to drive, but easier to drive than some of the other cars.
00:15:11And he's a talent and he goes under the radar because he is kind of a different personality than a lot of drivers on the grid.
00:15:17So fair play. And he's pretty good at golf. Apparently, you were telling me this morning.
00:15:21Plus three handicap. Yeah, I hate him. Hate him.
00:15:24Louise caught up with him earlier. Thankfully, they didn't talk about golf.
00:15:29So, Mikey, good, good qualifying yesterday inside the top six again. That's the second time this season.
00:15:34Yeah, no, it's a great result for everyone.
00:15:38I think now, you know, the top six is aren't coming as a surprise to us, which is a good thing.
00:15:43It's always our aim every Saturday in qualifying to get into the top six and try and get ourselves up the grid as far as we can.
00:15:50You know, that's three top ten qualifiers now so far this year out of three.
00:15:55And yeah, no, with everything's going in the right direction.
00:15:59Well, and the key is going to be making it count, obviously, in terms of results.
00:16:04I mean, your race one results have been great.
00:16:05But the consistency just, well, I say the consistency, you seem to have had bad luck.
00:16:10It's you're either brilliant or it's all going wrong.
00:16:13Yeah, it's been a bit all or nothing this year.
00:16:15I mean, we've had three independent wins, three top tens.
00:16:17But the other three races have been not very good.
00:16:20So, yeah, it happens.
00:16:22You know, it's touring cars is supposed to be a bit unpredictable.
00:16:25So hopefully today we can string three good races together and bump ourselves up in the championship a little bit.
00:16:31How much can you do to actually manage that situation?
00:16:33Because when you're in the pack, as we all know, that tends to be where it kicks off a bit.
00:16:37Yeah, I mean, you know, when you fall down to sort of 10th position in the touring car, then you are in a bit of a hornet's nest there.
00:16:47But it's just how you manage that situation.
00:16:49And sometimes you'll have things that happen beyond your control.
00:16:52There'll be contact that damage your car.
00:16:54But the idea is to stay out of the trouble by staying at the front.
00:16:58So that's what we're going to be trying to do all day today.
00:17:02You know, top tens.
00:17:03We can have three top tens and maybe a podium.
00:17:05Yeah, that'd be amazing.
00:17:06That'd be amazing.
00:17:07That'd be good as well.
00:17:09Mikey Doble, who's on row two, but Dan Kamish is on pole position for our opening race.
00:17:14This is the timetable for today's action.
00:17:16Round seven of the British Touring Car Championship begins at 11.30.
00:17:20And they're back on track at 2.20 and 4.55.
00:17:23We also have support races coming from the Virtue Mini Challenge, the Porsche Carrera Cup and the F4 British Championship.
00:17:31But we'll continue our build up to the opening race after the break and we'll focus on Dan Rowbottom as he opens up on his aspirations this year and on a life changing experience pre-season.
00:17:44We'll be right back in a few minutes.
00:17:45We'll be right back in a few minutes.
00:17:51We'll be right back in a few minutes.
00:17:53Sunshine at Snetterton.
00:17:54Some angry clouds in the distance, though.
00:17:57The touring car action getting underway very shortly here.
00:18:00Dan Kamish on pole position.
00:18:02But on row two is Dan Rowbottom, who signed a two-year deal to continue with Napa Racing earlier this year.
00:18:08And that news followed on from the two-time race winner having open heart surgery at the end of 2024.
00:18:14It's an extraordinary story.
00:18:15He's been talking to Louise about an eventful time both on and off the track.
00:18:23I'm actually having open heart surgery on Thursday.
00:18:27I've had a heart condition since birth.
00:18:31Pulmonary disease.
00:18:32There was a lot of complicated operations when I was younger.
00:18:37I'd had three open heart surgeries by the time I was 18 months old.
00:18:42My interest in winter started at the end of last season.
00:18:46Brands Hatch GP.
00:18:47I was scheduled for open heart surgery two weeks after.
00:18:51It eventually got done on 19th November.
00:18:54And that was the start of a very, very, very long winter.
00:18:57So I massively under-egged it, as I do with everything in my life.
00:18:59I thought it would be a walk in the park.
00:19:01And, yeah, it wasn't.
00:19:02But we're back on the grid for 2025.
00:19:07It's a difficult procedure.
00:19:08They had some complications through.
00:19:10I think it was scheduled for eight, nine hours, and it ran well over ten in the end.
00:19:15What you can't see under there is, like, a metal rod.
00:19:18And that's how they get the drugs into the bottom of your heart.
00:19:21And then the recovery process is, they're very, very strict.
00:19:24You can't do anything for 12 weeks.
00:19:26Well, they say 16, but I adapted that to 12.
00:19:29And then you have to be very, very slow in the recovery process.
00:19:34Amongst all of this, you hadn't actually factored in the fact that your wife was having your second baby.
00:19:38No, that was, yeah, that was an error.
00:19:41So our second child, Amaya, she came three days after I came out of the operation.
00:19:46So that was a problem, because I couldn't drive, couldn't really walk, couldn't move, couldn't lift the baby, couldn't lift the kettle of water.
00:19:52So it was, yeah, it was a tough few weeks, but we got there in the end.
00:19:56Since the op, I've tried to publicise as much as I can, to try and give a little bit of awareness.
00:20:01Working with the British Heart Foundation now, we're in our very early stages of that as well.
00:20:04And that's a fantastic charity that's helped me all the way through my life and my parents.
00:20:08And I had a lovely pair of sisters come up to me at Brands.
00:20:12God, my voice is going, it's terrible, isn't it?
00:20:14Alexia and Alana.
00:20:16Alana's got a heart condition, pulmonary condition like I had.
00:20:19So yeah, to see her and to say that I'm inspiring and blah, blah, blah, it was a really touching moment.
00:20:25And I think probably for me, it maybe changed my mindset as to why I'm continuing to do what I do.
00:20:31You know, obviously we all want to win, but maybe my message is a little bit different now.
00:20:36The thing that's most important, I think probably would have helped my parents, was that actually you can go on to have a normal life.
00:20:42So I think for me, the message I like to portray is yes, you can, you can go on to do great things,
00:20:47whether you've got serious conditions or minor conditions, but you've got to want to do it.
00:20:50You know, it's been a hard road for me. It's been a really, really long road.
00:20:54It's really important that I can show that actually with a serious condition such as mine, you can go on to have a great life.
00:21:00What are your thoughts on this year and looking ahead for the rest of the season?
00:21:03Yeah, this season's so far so good. We struggled at Brands, if I'm honest.
00:21:07We didn't really turn up at Brands, but Donington was a great first round, great opening round.
00:21:10We've got some good points on the board, which saved our skin at Brands a little bit.
00:21:14So we arrived here at Snetterson in P6. The plan is ultimately to challenge for the title.
00:21:19So I hope that can be this year. I don't really care how that is put together.
00:21:23I'm not proud, you know, if I won this championship having won no more races than two, I'd be happy.
00:21:28We're going to try and challenge for the title if we can. And if we can't, we'll support the team in any way that we can.
00:21:32It's an amazing story. He's an amazing chap as well. The message is you can get back to a normal life after all that.
00:21:42But being a touring car driver is not a normal life, is it?
00:21:46No, he plays it down a lot. You know, that was a huge, huge operation, a lot of recovery and a touring car season is no mean feat.
00:21:53It's high pressure. It's intense. And he's doing a good job, you know, and he's very competitive, very serious with himself and very hard on himself.
00:22:00And he wants to fight for the championship. And that's why he's here every single year.
00:22:04But now he's got a slightly side mission in inspiring anyone that does have an issue similar to his to show them what they can do with that issue in hand as well.
00:22:14Yeah, we must send our good wishes as well to little Alana, who featured in that in all her battles that lie ahead.
00:22:21She's got an amazing role model in Dan Rowbottom.
00:22:24Absolutely. You know, Dan is the joker of the touring car field. He's always got a quip. He's always got a laugh.
00:22:30He's always light hearted. He likes to be the comedian. And you see a real serious side there to him.
00:22:36Obviously, he's been through a lot, but it's great that he can be that inspiration to to the little girls.
00:22:42And and he really is. And he's actually driving really well this year.
00:22:45I think he's he's got speed, as we've seen in qualifying, had consistency, certainly at Donington.
00:22:50He's on for a good year. Yeah. So he's on road two.
00:22:53We got Dan Camish on pole position. The sun is out. It's getting warm. What lies ahead, Paul?
00:22:58Lots of good racing and I reckon in about half an hour it might rain.
00:23:02I know it doesn't look like it, but my radar is saying you're a weather god as well.
00:23:06I am like Michael Fish. Just be careful. Yeah, it could be a bit of rain on the way.
00:23:10A lot of cars on hard. So let's see what happens.
00:23:13Yeah, the talk so far this season has been the tire regulations and the very positive effect that that's had on the show.
00:23:19We've got a big delta once again, soft and hard.
00:23:23Yeah, I can't believe we got this far into the show without talking about tires, Steve.
00:23:26But the rest of the show is about tires.
00:23:28Yeah, last year and previously, we've we've had the cars guys running all three compounds, one in each race.
00:23:35But here we've gone to the same as brands.
00:23:37We have the soft tire for two races and the hard tire for one race.
00:23:40That's a second at least difference in lap time. So big differential in lap times.
00:23:45Be interesting to see how they choose to use it.
00:23:47I think the soft tire guys be at the front and a lot of others will be using the hard to get rid of it.
00:23:52What are you expecting from Jake Hill from 20 years on that grid?
00:23:55From what I can see, he's starting on the hard tire.
00:23:58So he's going to get that out of the way, as they say in race one.
00:24:01So he says that race pace on the hard tire even is not bad.
00:24:05So I think he'll move forward a bit, but I don't think he's going to set the world alight in race one.
00:24:09He's basically getting the hard tire out of the way and then he's going to utilize race two and three.
00:24:13And that's where he'll try and score his points and get his biggest successes.
00:24:16And Tom Ingram on the front row with Dan Kamish, just firing up behind us.
00:24:22Yeah. Race win or just more points?
00:24:25He likes a pointy time, doesn't he? But, you know, listen, he's a racer.
00:24:29He's going to try and be winning this, but there's a lot of boost to go up against with Kamish.
00:24:33Kamish has got a lot of power with that toker boost button.
00:24:37OK, they're all set to go and we will be taking a short break and then joining Louise out on the grid.
00:24:43Tom Ingram is the first to leave the pit lane behind us.
00:24:47We will send them on their way. We will return in just a few minutes time.
00:24:50And Louise will be out on the grid getting all the drivers opinions ahead of round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:24:58So the scene is set here at Snetterton ahead of round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:25:20Let's go straight on to the grid and join Louise.
00:25:24Well, it's a bit of an empty grid at the moment, so no cars here.
00:25:28So let's have a wander around and see who else I can find to have a word with.
00:25:33I saw Dick Bennett a moment ago, where has he gone?
00:25:36Oh, let's go and have a word with Alan Gow.
00:25:39Always good for a word when we've got a bit of spare time.
00:25:42Alan, hello.
00:25:43So, here we are at Snetterton.
00:25:47And sun is out again, thankfully, because it was looking a little, a bit for a while, like the guys might be having a wet race for their first one.
00:25:54Yeah, I mean, if you remember last year, we had those wet, dry conditions and we thought we were going to be in for the same thing.
00:26:00But the sun only shines on the righteous.
00:26:02So, there we go.
00:26:03Good stuff.
00:26:04That's a very incisive question and very incisive answer.
00:26:06I can hear somebody's pulled up behind.
00:26:07So, I will now go and talk to Tom Ingram, starting on the front row.
00:26:14He, I'd have to say, it was some fantastic watching him out on track yesterday.
00:26:19He absolutely had the car up on.
00:26:22Oh, sorry.
00:26:23I'm just getting in the way of him getting the tape going on the wall, which we see quite a lot, so that he can make sure that he's lined up in the right position.
00:26:32So, we did have a little bit of rain earlier on.
00:26:35The Formula 4 cars went out and within half a lap, quite a few of them had kind of binned it.
00:26:39But I think, I'm hoping, is it dry out there now, Tom?
00:26:44It's beautiful.
00:26:46Is it? How good?
00:26:47It's like a lovely summer's day.
00:26:49Which is music to your ears, because I was out at the back of the garages earlier on.
00:26:55The BMW guys were doing a rain dance out there.
00:26:58I think they just went a little bit early with the rain dance, because we did have that rain coming down.
00:27:02But that would have really worked in their favour.
00:27:04You guys really needed it to be dry, didn't you?
00:27:07I don't think we necessarily needed it to be dry.
00:27:09I think we just like, I think like everyone really, you just kind of want something consistent.
00:27:14And when it was doing that little bit of nothingness, it's a bit of a pain in the backside to be honest with you.
00:27:20Because you can't really prep for it.
00:27:22So I think we're all, more than anything else, either going, just rain, or just don't.
00:27:27Just do something.
00:27:28Incidentally, it's stayed a nice day.
00:27:31So, yeah, although the wind has picked up and you can feel the wind whilst you're out there starting to buffer the car quite a bit.
00:27:37So we're going to be a little bit wind-dependent, not that I've had any baked beans or anything, but I think it's going to be fairly windy out there.
00:27:43So we're going to be slightly feeling that, but if it can stay dry, we should be in good shape.
00:27:48The balance of the car has felt fantastic.
00:27:50In the wet, in free practice one yesterday, we were trying a lot of things to get over what was our problem last year.
00:27:57And I think, in fairness, we probably, you know, we're probably a long way down the line from there.
00:28:01So if it was to be wet, we're going to be all right, I think.
00:28:04You know, it's a nice place to be.
00:28:05But the car's feeling good.
00:28:06We've had a great qualifying.
00:28:08We're where we kind of want to be.
00:28:10We'll focus on those big shiny things up in the sky and make sure we get a good start and see how the race pans out from that.
00:28:15Good stuff. Thanks, Tom.
00:28:16As Tom says, a great qualifying for them front row.
00:28:18Always a nice place to be.
00:28:20Let's go further down the grid now.
00:28:22And Paul is with a driver who won two races here last year, but didn't have such a good time yesterday.
00:28:26Over to you, Paul.
00:28:28Yes, so P20 for Jake Hill.
00:28:30I always get in the way and everyone's trying to do tyre crosses.
00:28:33Jake Hill, you're on the hard.
00:28:35Have you heard about any rain coming from your WSR radar?
00:28:38I wish there was, Owe, because I think we'd probably get to the front pretty quickly.
00:28:42But I think we've had it now, mate, to be honest with you.
00:28:46So a bit gutting because I'd have loved it to have been wet for this race one especially.
00:28:50But it's all right, mate.
00:28:52I'm actually feeling relatively calm and actually quite looking forward to it.
00:28:57You're trying to get up there and get a reverse grid and finish this weekend off fantastically.
00:29:01Or do you think I can actually move up with these hards on?
00:29:04I think a bit of both.
00:29:06I think actually, you know, we've proved at Brands.
00:29:10Yeah, all right.
00:29:11The safety car sort of screwed us up a bit in that race two at Brands.
00:29:14But we were very, very quick on the hards.
00:29:16And I'm actually, you know, car felt great on the way to the grid there.
00:29:19So I'm feeling positive about being on the hards.
00:29:22We're surrounded by everyone else that's on hards as well.
00:29:25So, yeah, it shouldn't be too much of a deficit this first one.
00:29:28We've just got to try and move forward a bit, mate.
00:29:30Top man.
00:29:31I'll leave you to it, mate.
00:29:32Well done.
00:29:33Right.
00:29:34Let's go and see Ryan Bensley.
00:29:35Sorry for the back of my head.
00:29:37Follow me.
00:29:38Sorry, we're going to have to hot foot this one because I want to throw back to Lou in a bit.
00:29:41So let's get down to Ryan Bensley.
00:29:43This is his first race.
00:29:44Ryan is somebody I know quite well and he's a top man.
00:29:48Hello, boys.
00:29:49I tell you, it's so busy on the grid, even down here at the back.
00:29:52Ryan will be so nervous about this first race start.
00:29:56He's probably got the strategy all sorted.
00:29:58He's getting a little bit of a chat from Michael Kreese, actually.
00:30:01Kreesey, can I just jump out of the way, mate?
00:30:03Ryan, quick word, mate.
00:30:05You must be so happy to be on the grid and just get on with this and get rid of people like me.
00:30:10Yeah, I need to get the race done because I've got a mortgage appointment afterwards.
00:30:14Yeah, it's great.
00:30:15It's great to be here.
00:30:16It's not the qualifying result we wanted, but hopefully maybe we can progress forwards.
00:30:20I've had 10 laps in the car around here in the drive.
00:30:23So, you know, just need to get some more laps in and get used to the car.
00:30:27Top man, you keep your head down.
00:30:28We're all looking forward to seeing how you get on, mate.
00:30:30Back to you, Lou.
00:30:31Thank you, Paul.
00:30:32I'm now up at the front of the grid with our pole sitter, Dan Camish.
00:30:35Second pole of the season.
00:30:37Dan, this car was so quick in qualifying trim.
00:30:40I presume it's going to be quick in race trim as well.
00:30:43And more than a handful of boost in your pocket as well.
00:30:45So it's boding well, isn't it?
00:30:47No, it does bode well, of course.
00:30:49I mean, yesterday's lap was really great.
00:30:51Proud of that one.
00:30:52But today's a different ball game.
00:30:53You know, I don't have to do one.
00:30:54I've got to do 12.
00:30:55So, yeah, let's see what we can do.
00:30:57Fairly confident that I've got a good package, you know.
00:31:00But then again, there's a few cars around me that will tell you the same.
00:31:03So, you know, it's quite clear how fast that Hyundai is.
00:31:06You know, he nearly did what I did without any boost,
00:31:10which kind of shows you the performance they've got.
00:31:12You know, that's difficult.
00:31:15But equally, you know, I've got a little bit more boost to compensate.
00:31:20So hopefully we can have a good race.
00:31:23You know, the important thing for me is points and hopefully a trophy at the end of this.
00:31:29I'd like you to be the first one.
00:31:31And that's why I'm aiming at.
00:31:33Cheers, Dan.
00:31:34Have a good race.
00:31:35We are going to head off for a break now.
00:31:37When we come back, it's going to be race one getting underway here at Snetterton.
00:31:47The day's touring car action all set to go here at Snetterton.
00:31:50Dan Kamish is on pole position for round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:31:55And in the commentary box, Tim Harvey and Davey Thatts.
00:31:58Steve, thanks.
00:31:59We are ready to go then for our first of three races in the sunshine at a fairly blustery Snetterton.
00:32:05The grid all lined up.
00:32:06One or two drivers inevitably, given the qualifying format we have these days, out of position.
00:32:10One or two drivers looking to try to improve from yesterday, like Jake Hill, who you heard from on the grid.
00:32:15Like Chris Smiley, who had a drama in the rear suspension yesterday.
00:32:19And the car was certainly not a nice handling one in Q2.
00:32:23And he felt he could have done better. The Hyundai's have been rapid all weekend.
00:32:26And there's a very rapid Hyundai.
00:32:27Tom Ingram's car then that lines up on the outside of the front of the grid.
00:32:30He's only got two laps of the turbo boost against the seven of Dan Kamish.
00:32:34But under normal circumstances that Hyundai may prove to be the quicker car.
00:32:39We'll see how the race pans out.
00:32:41We'll get Tim to talk about this in a moment as well as the cars then are released onto the formation lap.
00:32:46Heading down towards that first right-hander of Rich's.
00:32:50And it is Dan Kamish, Tom Ingram at the front of the grid, Dan Rowbottom second, Mikey Doble behind.
00:32:57And that's Charles Rainford, Browns Hatch race winner.
00:33:00Here he starts 11th on the grid.
00:33:03And has been on cloud nine of late, given the result of Browns Hatch.
00:33:09There he is, working his way down towards Rich's.
00:33:13And before we go racing, let's try and check in with Charles Rainford.
00:33:18Touring car race winner, Charles Rainford, now we can say.
00:33:21He's got a nice ring to it, Charles.
00:33:22Hello, sir. Good to speak to you.
00:33:24Yeah, I mean, that's got a nice ring to it, hasn't it?
00:33:26We've got some work to do in this race.
00:33:28Obviously the tyres are very mixed, so looking forward to this one.
00:33:31I've not raced around Snet for a long time.
00:33:33So, yeah, we'll see how it goes.
00:33:35You're near the front of the group on the harder tyre.
00:33:37What's the game plan then off the start?
00:33:39Keep out of trouble or go on attack mode?
00:33:43I mean, yeah, it's race one, so it's always got to be keep out of trouble.
00:33:46So we'll see how the first couple of laps go and get taken from there, really.
00:33:50Yesterday was a tough day for BMW generally.
00:33:52Much work overnight to try and find a bit more pace?
00:33:56Yeah, we think we've got a good race car underneath us.
00:33:59To be fair, the time that I could have achieved was a lot better than what I actually did.
00:34:03So I locked myself out of boost on my best lap.
00:34:06So we'll see how we go in this one.
00:34:08We'll leave you to it. Good luck, Charles.
00:34:10Cheers. Thank you very much.
00:34:11Cheers. Thank you very much.
00:34:12So Charles Rainford, certainly a man to watch Tim in this race, but so too will Tom Ingram be.
00:34:17Yeah, I think we're going to have two races, aren't we?
00:34:19We're going to have those on the hard tyres and those on the soft because there's such a big delta.
00:34:24Here's the grid.
00:34:25Dan Camish on pole position. Tom Ingram with him at the front.
00:34:28Dan Rowbottom lining up third ahead of Mikey Doble.
00:34:31Then Adam Morgan and Ash Sutton.
00:34:33Dan Lloyd starting seventh ahead of Josh Cook.
00:34:36Then Tom Chilton and James Dorlin to round out the top ten.
00:34:39Eleventh is where you find Charles Rainford.
00:34:41Then Chris Smiley alongside him ahead of Daryl De Leon and Aidan Moffat.
00:34:45Next you've got Gordon Shedden starting 15th.
00:34:48Sam Osborne for company. Aaron Taylor Smith is 17th ahead of Dexter Patterson.
00:34:53Max Hall 19th and Jake Hill only 20th.
00:34:55He's a man to watch, but he's only got three laps of boost.
00:34:58Stephen Jelley versus Ronan Pearson from row 11.
00:35:01Nick Halstead and Nick Hamilton on the penultimate row.
00:35:04And newcomer Ryan Bensley, mortgage advisor to the stars, is at the back having his first British Touring Car Championship race at his local circuit.
00:35:12He's a Norfolk lad and looking forward hugely to this.
00:35:15He said he was a bit polite in qualifying, but he's going to get his elbows out in the race.
00:35:19Right, Kamish or Ingram for the win? It's fascinating this front run.
00:35:22Yeah, I mean, you know, the popular choice would be Kamish because he's got more boost.
00:35:26He's got seven laps of boost to Ingram's two, which means that he's only got more boost on five laps.
00:35:33A 12 lap race, that means on seven laps as a process of elimination.
00:35:39I think the Hyundai is a quicker car when they're both not using the boost.
00:35:44So I think Ingram has a good chance.
00:35:46Let's not forget Ingram has not won a race yet.
00:35:48And whilst he likes to be pointsy, I think he fancies a win.
00:35:53Yeah, a winsy day is better than a pointsy day.
00:35:55Exactly.
00:35:56But this lap is a long lap. A lot can happen on it.
00:35:59And there are plenty of overtaking places. There really are.
00:36:02He may be keen to just get away at the start, see who's in the lead at the start,
00:36:07but then try and make a gap before he does anything.
00:36:10We'll have to see. But we also know Ingram likes to go hard from the off.
00:36:14He does indeed. You've got Dan Rowbottom in the mix.
00:36:17Mikey Doble fourth on the hard tyre. That's a bit of a surprise.
00:36:20Yeah, I'm surprised, you know, in effect, Mikey Doble's giving up that fourth place
00:36:24because there'll be softer run cars behind that'll be quicker.
00:36:28I'm surprised he's giving up a good points finish in the first race.
00:36:31And Ash sat in six. I mean, that could have been a whole lot worse with that alternator problem of yesterday.
00:36:35You can't rule him out.
00:36:36Absolutely not, no. I mean, he has only, of course, got the one lap of boost to use,
00:36:41but he's been mighty fast round here. He'll be looking for a podium out of this first race.
00:36:46He will indeed. There is Jake Hill, who is also going to be a man to watch.
00:36:51Brands Hatch winner. I mean, how quickly things change at the BTCC.
00:36:55Brands Hatch, three races, three wins for BMW. Yesterday, a lot of head scratching from BMW.
00:36:59Yeah, but they keep saying they've got a good race car. We'll wait and see.
00:37:03Jake is reverse strategising his weekend, isn't he, by going hard on the first one and then two races on soft.
00:37:10We'll see who has the most points at the end of the day.
00:37:12We will indeed. Round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
00:37:15Then it's going to be fascinating. The grid is formed. It is Dan Camish starting on pole position then.
00:37:20Second pole position of the season. Tom Ingram is with him. And we are ready to go racing.
00:37:24It's 12 laps on the Snetterton. 300 in his go. Good start by Camish. Good start by Rowbottom as well.
00:37:30Not a great start by Josh Cook in comparison. And as they blast down towards Riches for the first time,
00:37:35a very good start made by Dan Camish to take the race lead. Ingram goes second.
00:37:40And Ash Sutton's already up to fourth and he might be third, in fact, round the outside of Robo.
00:37:44As they come off turn one, Camish covers off the inside line up towards the Wilson hairpin.
00:37:48That's Ingram on the outside. The first real pinch point of the lap.
00:37:51And Ingram is not going to be able to make it stick. But look at Sutton. He's already up to third.
00:37:55And he's on his toes for second. Well Sutton went round the outside at Riches.
00:37:59He carried the speed all the way down to the hairpin of Wilson and cut across the front to Rowbottom.
00:38:05Great stuff from Sutton. He's on a charge. Is he ever. Ingram is having to go defensive.
00:38:10And that might play into Dan Camish's hands. In fourth it's Adam Morgan.
00:38:13Rowbottom is fifth. In sixth place is Dan Lloyd. Mikey Doble is hanging on to seventh.
00:38:17Whoops. The Toyotas are getting themselves together. And Jake Hill gets turned around.
00:38:20He was at the innocent party in all of that. He had two Toyotas side by side. Jake Hill got tagged.
00:38:24And the reigning champions weekend goes from bad to worse. Three for the lead. It's Camish up front.
00:38:30Camish Ingram under intense pressure from Sutton. His first. He does like to get off to a quick start.
00:38:38But wow is he flying. Don't forget they're all on the same tyre. There's no tyre advantage there at all.
00:38:43No. Mikey Doble on the harder tyre. He's starting to drop back in the pack. The softer tyre is the faster.
00:38:48But it doesn't last as long. So if you are on the soft it's quick. But you've got to manage it.
00:38:51Ingram on the attack. Camish then defends as they come down towards the Esses.
00:38:55Dan Lloyd's had a good first lap up into the top six. Tom Chilton is also on that soft tyre like Lloyd.
00:39:00He's making progress. Doble getting shuttled back. And Charles Rainford in ninth place.
00:39:05Yeah a little move by Chilton there just to put Doble down another place as they came in. Here we see a replay. Look at the two Toyotas behind. They're fighting each other.
00:39:15They're so busy looking at each other that they tag the back of Jake Hill's car and force him into a spin.
00:39:21I think it may have been Aaron Taylor Smith on the inside getting crowded. That's Charles Rainford on the grass in the background.
00:39:27There is a drive-through penalty coming for Roland Pearson. Drive-through penalty for Roland Pearson as the leaders come across the timing line.
00:39:34So Camish two tenths up at the end of lap one. Ingram is second. Sutton is third. Fourth is Morgan. Fifth is Rowbottom.
00:39:39Lloyd is sixth. Chilton is seventh. And then eighth and ninth. Doble from Cook on the hard tyre. Tenth is Smiley.
00:39:46And a replay here of a bit of hip and shoulder going on that forces Nick Halstead rally crossing coming out of Corham.
00:39:53Scrabbling his way back towards tarmac.
00:39:56Well he'd be pleased that grass was nice and dry wasn't he? Because had it been wet grass he'd have been heading in one direction.
00:40:02That was straight to the barriers. But he gets away with it and rejoins.
00:40:07So here are the three race leaders. Adam Morgan in fourth. Keeping Rowbottom at bay. Former team mates.
00:40:12But Sutton on the back of Ingram. How often have we said that in the history of the championship?
00:40:15Camish then leading the way but not getting away.
00:40:18Not getting away but also trying to make sure he looks after the soft tyres.
00:40:23Remember they do need to make these tyres last. It's a long lap here. Lot of corners.
00:40:28So there's a lot of stress on the tyres. And the soft tyre likes if you can to bring it in nice and gently.
00:40:34But when you've got two champions behind you. How gentle can you actually be?
00:40:39But there's an element of just massaging the race and the tyres early on to start with.
00:40:44We understand that Dan Camish's start is under investigation.
00:40:48Ronan Pearson's drive-through was for personnel on the grid after the allotted time.
00:40:52So that's why Ronan Pearson's getting the drive-through penalty. It wasn't for any incident on track.
00:40:57As right now you've got a good fight with Chilton and Lloyd then. The Hyundai's out of different teams.
00:41:01Here you've got the team Virtue car now up ahead of the restart entry.
00:41:05So that's a change for sixth. And both of them on that softer tyre of course pushing forward.
00:41:10But Tom Chilton having gone ahead of Dan Lloyd on this lap going nicely.
00:41:14Yeah, he's going nice. He's been making good progress as Tom Chilton.
00:41:18And not surprisingly we've now got the soft tyres in the front seven positions.
00:41:23Mikey Doble still heading up for the hard-tyred cars in eight.
00:41:27Now are we expecting the hard tyres, hard-tyred cars to fall further and further back?
00:41:32Or is there a tipping point where they then start to come forward again?
00:41:34No, I don't expect them to be faster at any point in the race.
00:41:38Assuming the levels of drop-off that we've seen previously here on the soft,
00:41:42the soft will still be quicker even at the end of the race.
00:41:45As there for the lead of that hard-tyred class you've got the battle going on.
00:41:48Josh Cook fighting against Mikey Doble but then losing out to Chris Smiley.
00:41:53Smiley on soft then getting himself up into ninth.
00:41:56We've had a change for fourth place as well now with Rowbottom ahead of Adam Morgan.
00:41:59And the race leaders come down towards turn four.
00:42:02It is still Kamish ahead of Ingram, ahead of Sutton who fades slightly to the inside line.
00:42:07There's the new fourth place man down Rowbottom. Behind him is Morgan.
00:42:10Then Chilton who is becoming more of a factor again on the soft tyre.
00:42:14That was a graphic description as Smiley went past Cook there on the brakes with more grip from the soft tyres.
00:42:21It's just quicker everywhere.
00:42:23Ryan Bensley at the rear of the train as you saw them go through but he's in 19th place.
00:42:28Jake Hill by the way pitted at the end of lap one with damage.
00:42:31So it's not even that he's out there circulating and being able to salvage points from the top 15.
00:42:35He's already two laps down and the damage there you can see is enough to effectively put him out of this race.
00:42:40And at the back for race two.
00:42:42The only small glimmer of good news though is at least he's got the hard tyre out the way.
00:42:46True.
00:42:47Had he started on the soft he'd still have a race to come on the hard.
00:42:50So at least he's got that out the way.
00:42:52And Stephen Jelly has picked up damage somewhere as well.
00:42:54His one motorsport Honda is also in the pits at the end of the opening lap.
00:42:57The sister car Josh Cook here fighting with Daryl De Leon.
00:43:00De Leon is on the soft so he moves ahead.
00:43:03Yeah again it's like taking candy from a baby to use an old cliche isn't it.
00:43:08Not that I would ever steal sweets from a young child obviously.
00:43:11No.
00:43:12And nor would you relinquish your own I've noticed.
00:43:14Daryl De Leon comes out of Corham in 10th place.
00:43:16Leaders up towards the line.
00:43:17And on that lap Dan Kamish is getting away slightly.
00:43:20He done the fastest lap last time around a 54.9.
00:43:23And here look Chris Miley is still on the attack as they come up towards the line through they go.
00:43:27So Kamish in from Sutton.
00:43:29Those three covered by 1.3 seconds.
00:43:31Dan Lloyd getting himself back up the order as well.
00:43:34Retaking the place away from Chilton.
00:43:36So as we have a replay here of Max Hall getting a little bit crossed up.
00:43:40Coming down towards turn 12.
00:43:42Bang!
00:43:43Straight into the side of Gordon Shedden.
00:43:44Breaks the suspension.
00:43:45Nothing Shedden could do about that.
00:43:47He was totally the innocent victim.
00:43:49Yeah I mean I feel for Max Hall because as well.
00:43:52I mean not as much as Shedden.
00:43:53But I know what happens.
00:43:54You're trying to break whilst you're going round the corner.
00:43:57He got out wide onto the grass.
00:43:59And then he could not do anything about the trajectory he is on.
00:44:03Obviously desperately unlucky for Gordon Shedden.
00:44:05But there was nothing.
00:44:07There was nothing malicious about the error that Max Hall made.
00:44:11As Dan Kamish then continues to lead.
00:44:13By one second from Tom Ingram.
00:44:15Who has still got his two laps of boost to use.
00:44:18Sutton's got his one lap to use.
00:44:20They'll save it to late in the race.
00:44:22Dan Kamish started with seven.
00:44:24He's still got five laps of use.
00:44:26Now don't forget Kamish has been the race leader since the start.
00:44:29So he's got the lap leader point at the moment to go with the point for pole.
00:44:33He's got the fastest lap.
00:44:34There's a point for that if he survives with it.
00:44:36And he's the race leader.
00:44:37And there is a very very frustrated to say the least.
00:44:40Gordon Shedden out of the car and out of the race.
00:44:42And he's another big name that's going to be in the back of the grid for race two.
00:44:45Yeah it's going to be interesting to watch that.
00:44:47But I think Kamish knowing he's got a bit more boost.
00:44:50Has used a couple of laps of boost to try and give himself a gap.
00:44:54And to give himself that fastest lap.
00:44:56With the point that goes with it early on when the tires are nice and fresh.
00:45:00Now he'll have to manage it and then use the boost to defend.
00:45:04Later in the race.
00:45:06Going through Muddy Doble.
00:45:07Still at the head of the battle if you like for those on the harder tire.
00:45:11Now Sutton on the back of Ingram.
00:45:12That gap is coming down again.
00:45:14As we look at the cars now pouring their way out of turn 12.
00:45:17Up towards the timing line.
00:45:18Kamish eight tenth to the second up the road over Ingram.
00:45:21Sutton third.
00:45:22Robot and Morgan and Dan Lloyd round out the top six.
00:45:24Tom Chilton is seventh.
00:45:25Mikey Doble eighth.
00:45:26And it's Chris Smiley and Darrell De Leon in tenth place.
00:45:29We heard on the green flag that from Charles Rainford.
00:45:31He is in twelfth spot at the moment.
00:45:33That puts him third in the half tire class.
00:45:36Yeah looking out the back of Dan Kamish's car.
00:45:39That gap looks bigger on the camera than I can assure you it looks in his rear view mirror.
00:45:44Kamish has not had a touring car win at Snetterton.
00:45:47Leeds at the moment.
00:45:48And it's going to be a very interesting grid for race two isn't it.
00:45:51What with the likes of Sheddon and Hill and Jelly towards the very back.
00:45:54Dan Kamish then leads the way.
00:45:56Sutton sitting on the tail of Ingram.
00:45:58He's not really yet been darting about in the mirrors looking to make that move.
00:46:01That'll come late in the race when he wants to make sure he's got the boost available to do it.
00:46:05Yeah Robottom's holding on to this in a gap to fourth place.
00:46:10If they do start scrapping he could close up and he has more boost than those in front.
00:46:15He's got four laps but whether he'd want to challenge his teammate Sutton I'm not exactly sure.
00:46:20Dan Lloyd incidentally who you are looking at there just going through shot in the vacuum.
00:46:24He's leading the independent class at the moment for restart racing ahead of Mikey Doble and then Chris Smiley running in third spot.
00:46:32So because Smiley's on the soft you could be looking at a restart one two in the class.
00:46:37There is Ryan Bensley new to the championship at 17th after all the dramas that have gone on in the opening few laps.
00:46:43He might yet get into the points on his debut because 15th is where you need to be in the 17th.
00:46:48And there's still plenty more drama that could shake out of this race.
00:46:51Dan Kamish though who always seems to get the bad luck leads at the moment but it's not a massive margin over Ingram.
00:46:57No but this is about controlling the race isn't it.
00:47:00Just looking back now that's Robottom going through.
00:47:04Smiley on Doble for second in the independent.
00:47:07Soft shot versus hard, no question.
00:47:09No question, yeah.
00:47:10Better exit from the corner before onto the Bentley straight and he can easily come past.
00:47:16Probably with some boost as well.
00:47:18Indeed so.
00:47:19Hyundai is then looking very rapid.
00:47:21Team that's really taken a massive stride forward this year with Peter Jones in charge.
00:47:27Darrell De Leon goes through.
00:47:28Josh Cook goes through.
00:47:29Charles Rainford goes through.
00:47:30Aidan Moffat who always races better than he qualifies now.
00:47:33He's up in the 13th place.
00:47:34We've had a change for 14th as well.
00:47:36Sam Osborne and Aaron Taylor-Smith now both ahead of James Dawlin.
00:47:40Yeah, I expect Darrell De Leon will probably be the next one to make a move on Mikey Doble.
00:47:46And a replay here of the Toyotas at play coming out of Corham.
00:47:52James Dawlin losing out to a committed Aaron Taylor-Smith.
00:47:55James hasn't raced here for a little while.
00:47:57It was last in a GT Cup car.
00:47:59And also in strife is Mick Hamilton getting it wrong coming through the S's.
00:48:03But he's able to get back onto the circuit, carry on in the battle.
00:48:07James Dawlin was really pleased with how the car had gone yesterday.
00:48:10Tenth on the grid.
00:48:11But the harder tyre is really what sent him backwards.
00:48:13Yeah, absolutely.
00:48:14But that hard tyre race is still being held out well.
00:48:18Mikey Doble's still leading that.
00:48:20Now, Jake Hill has just left the pit lane.
00:48:22He's four laps down.
00:48:23So you might think, well, what's he got to achieve?
00:48:25Well, he could get a point for Fastest Lap if he really does try.
00:48:28But, really, they want to make sure the car is right for race two.
00:48:31This is a test session now.
00:48:32Yeah, he won't get a point on the hard tyres though.
00:48:34No.
00:48:35Even, he's just checking the car is okay.
00:48:37That's what they're doing.
00:48:39But, yeah, at least they've got the car repaired.
00:48:42And he can check it out before they start race two.
00:48:45Which is where he'll really be meeting business on the soft tyre.
00:48:48That'll be a charge to watch, won't it?
00:48:50So how many laps he does to make sure the car is all well.
00:48:52We'll wait and see.
00:48:53But they've sent him out for the damage assessment.
00:48:55As the leaders come out of Turn 12 on this lap number six.
00:48:58Heading up towards the timing line.
00:49:00Dan Rowbottom not catching.
00:49:02He's fending off Adam Morgan.
00:49:04And Sam Osborne now being given the driving standards flag for track limit abuses.
00:49:09Yeah, Rowbottom falling into the clutches of Adam Morgan and Dan Lloyd.
00:49:14Now, here's De Leon coming up to have a go at Mikey Doble.
00:49:18Soft tyre against hard tyre.
00:49:20I think Mikey Doble's driven a fantastic race.
00:49:22He's let the faster cars through without losing too much time or having contact.
00:49:27But he's still at the front of all of those on the hard tyre.
00:49:31Don't forget the first three after in race two who finish in first three will have to start on the hard tyre in race two.
00:49:38So it's going to be interesting to see isn't it late race whether Ash Saturn wants to be third for points or fourth for a better tyre.
00:49:45Replay here of Dan Lloyd getting at the inside of Adam Morgan.
00:49:49Dan Lloyd is absolutely flying.
00:49:50He's second quickest at FP2 yesterday.
00:49:52A bit disappointed with qualifying but he's going great guns here.
00:49:55Yeah, in actual fact you say he was disappointed.
00:49:57He actually said he was really pleased that the car felt great in qualifying and he was looking forward to today and he's backing up that promise.
00:50:04Yeah.
00:50:05As we say also that he thought there was a bit more time in the car but you know race day different day and all that.
00:50:10So he is going well and of course it's helped by being on the quicker tyre but even so he's not finished yet is he?
00:50:15Dan Lloyd has gone away from Morgan pretty rapidly and he's setting off in pursuit of Rowbottom now on lap 7 of 12.
00:50:21Yeah and the cars he's racing against are on the same tyre the the top eight cars in this race all on the soft tyre at the moment.
00:50:28Right put yourself in Napa Racing's pit box for a moment.
00:50:30You've got Ash Sutton running third and another Napa car fourth.
00:50:33There's a big gap between them.
00:50:34Yeah.
00:50:35Is it worth trying to do a switch late race to keep Ash off the hard tyre?
00:50:40That is a that's a good question.
00:50:42That is a good question.
00:50:43Does it?
00:50:44It depends what they do think they and they've looked at who's used the tyre in this race and they'll probably have a strategy for race two and
00:50:51three.
00:50:52I'm not clever enough to work that out on the spur of the moment.
00:50:54OK.
00:50:55But it would be if they felt that was going to advantage them but I don't see it happening.
00:51:00A bit earlier in the year.
00:51:01Not quite a challenge per positioning.
00:51:04We understand a mechanical warning flag meatball flag is going out to Dexter Patterson and that's why because there is trim hanging off the side of the car.
00:51:12We know that the officials do not like flapping trim.
00:51:15So Dexter Patterson will be brought in.
00:51:17Tank tape will be applied and he'll be sent out.
00:51:19Here are the race leaders.
00:51:20To the eye it almost looks like a stalemate but you can imagine it is very very busy inside those cars because Ingram is working overtime to stay in touch with Cannish and Sutton is working overtime to stay on the back of Ingram.
00:51:31And he's all going to kick off on the last couple of laps where they can use the boost.
00:51:34Yeah but they'll all be using the boost on the same laps.
00:51:36This is what they always leave it till the end and then they're actually they're really negating any advantage.
00:51:42I mean at the moment Cannish has got four laps left.
00:51:45Ingram two and Sutton one.
00:51:47They'll use them on the last few laps together.
00:51:50As Cannish is six tenths of a second up on Ingram.
00:51:53So the gap has come down.
00:51:55Cannish even though he's used three laps of his available boost has never been able to storm away and build up a big gap.
00:52:02No.
00:52:03But he's managing his tyres and he's managing his race.
00:52:06Remember I mean Dan Sutton, Dan Sutton.
00:52:09Dan Sutton.
00:52:10Cannish more than anyone has had problems on the soft tyre in the park.
00:52:13And he will be trying to win this race in the slowest possible time.
00:52:17With the least amount of effort put into his tyres.
00:52:20So there are the three leaders.
00:52:22Now in the background Dan Rowbottom hanging on to fourth place.
00:52:25But he's got a charging Dan Lloyd behind him.
00:52:27Dexter Patterson has just rejoined after his pit stop.
00:52:29Jake Hill is circulating.
00:52:31And now we'll start to see what lap times he can do.
00:52:34As the leaders come from Bonhall towards Corham.
00:52:37Ash Sutton carrying that 100th anniversary livery at Napa that he debuted at Brands Hatch.
00:52:42Back by popular demand.
00:52:43The fans like it.
00:52:44It won't be adorning the car for the entire season.
00:52:46But for another couple of rounds.
00:52:48Then there'll be the special one-off livery for Knock Hill for example.
00:52:51And then a different colour scheme a little bit later on in the year as well.
00:52:54As there is the fight for fourth.
00:52:55Rowbottom versus Lloyd.
00:52:56Adam Morgan Six dropping back a little.
00:52:58Tom Chilton is seventh.
00:52:59Chris Smiley is eighth.
00:53:01And then behind them in nine from ten.
00:53:03Because he's going from De Leon.
00:53:04The gap though between Rowbottom and Lloyd.
00:53:06He's still hovering around the four tenths of a second mark.
00:53:08Dan Lloyd now not finding it all that easy to find a way through.
00:53:12But he has got one more lap of boost available than does Rowbottom.
00:53:16Yeah, now we're on to lap nine.
00:53:19So Kamish can use boost now on each of the remaining laps.
00:53:23So I expect him to possibly eat that gap out a little bit.
00:53:27Charles Rainford's view.
00:53:29And he is currently in 12th place.
00:53:33And that means he's the third of those on the harder tyre.
00:53:36Driving standards flag now.
00:53:38Tom Ingram for track limits.
00:53:39Yeah, and look Kamish is already pulling away on this lap.
00:53:42He's got it now for each of them.
00:53:44So that, I mean he's in a lovely position now.
00:53:46Because he knows the others haven't got it for each lap.
00:53:48But he can make hay for a couple of laps at least and put a gap in.
00:53:53So for second place Tom Ingram versus Ash Sutton.
00:53:57Our only double winner of the season.
00:54:00Five different winners we've had in the six races.
00:54:02We could get a six different winner out of the seven.
00:54:04Dan Kamish then up front.
00:54:06And he probably feels he should have had a win at Brandtap.
00:54:09But the drivers behind the safety car.
00:54:11And at the moment the gap is building.
00:54:14As he's using the boost to his advantage once again.
00:54:16He's got the fastest lap of the race.
00:54:18And soft tyre cars in the top eight.
00:54:21The fact that Mikey Doble is keeping Daryl De Leon soft-shot BMW at bay.
00:54:25Is a mighty effort.
00:54:26It's a miracle actually isn't it?
00:54:27He's doing a fantastic job.
00:54:28He's driven really well.
00:54:30Coming into shot now.
00:54:31Michael Doble in the PowerMax car.
00:54:35Charles Rainford goes through shot as well in the BMW on the hard tyre.
00:54:40There's Aidan Moffat.
00:54:41He's getting the hard tyre out of the way early on.
00:54:43Ryan Bentley in the background.
00:54:44Still trying to get himself into the points.
00:54:47And he's not far away is he?
00:54:48He's on the back of James Dorlin.
00:54:49Who's on the back of Aaron Taylor-Smith.
00:54:50And here's Sam Osborne and Aidan Moffat.
00:54:53Battle their way out of the S's.
00:54:55With the BMW really having to go defensive here.
00:54:58Yeah a fine performance by Ryan Bensley.
00:55:00You know bearing in mind how little time he's had in the car.
00:55:03The first session of free practice yesterday was wet.
00:55:06And he's right with the group at the back of this.
00:55:08And very much in the mix.
00:55:11Does not look out of place at all.
00:55:12A fine debut.
00:55:13Absolutely.
00:55:14James Dorlin in his first season in the championship.
00:55:16Aaron Taylor-Smith ahead of him.
00:55:18Who's to call him a veteran might be a little bit unfair.
00:55:21But one of the more experienced drivers on the grid.
00:55:23So Ryan Bensley in good company.
00:55:25Dan Kamish then now leading by 1.4 seconds.
00:55:27And the gap is building all the time as he uses the boost.
00:55:29Sutton has one lap available.
00:55:31He's not used it yet.
00:55:32There is Taylor-Smith ahead of Osborne.
00:55:34Now going down through riches.
00:55:36So that's a change for 14th place.
00:55:38And James Dorlin is next up.
00:55:40Just ahead of Bensley as there is Kamish.
00:55:42Then a gap.
00:55:43Then Ingram.
00:55:44Then Sutton.
00:55:45And this is the replay of coming towards us.
00:55:48Moffat ahead of Osborne.
00:55:49Taylor-Smith's car with the window peeling out.
00:55:51I'm surprised that's not a black and orange flag actually.
00:55:53He goes through on the inside.
00:55:55Yeah.
00:55:56It seems it's more, they're more worried about bodywork aren't they?
00:55:58Wheel arches than perhaps a window leaning out.
00:56:02But yeah, I think he's got away with that one.
00:56:05Nearly the end of the race anyway.
00:56:07Three laps to go.
00:56:08As Dan Lloyd's on the boost, Adam Morgan's on the boost coming down the straight.
00:56:12And there, with the door open, is a troubled Nick Halstead.
00:56:17He'll be heading to the pit lane.
00:56:18Yeah, remember he had that, that moment, didn't he, earlier on around the grass at Corham.
00:56:24Not sure if there's a problem as a result of that.
00:56:27Usually when the driver has the door open it's something to do with fumes in the car.
00:56:32So maybe the exhaust got knocked or something and has been burning the paint.
00:56:36Or possible, possible, lots of possible reasons for that.
00:56:40Dan Kamish then, accelerating his way up towards the line.
00:56:43And now Sutton thinks maybe a move against Ingram could be on.
00:56:46No it isn't.
00:56:47Up towards the line, the Hyundai just able to keep the focus behind.
00:56:51Three in they go, Ingram versus Sutton.
00:56:53And that plays right into the hands of Kamish because they can hold one another up by squabbling.
00:56:56Down they turn through the fast right of britches.
00:56:59And Sutton now looking ever more committed.
00:57:02Two laps to go and he's all over the back of Ingram.
00:57:05Yeah, and to my knowledge they're not using the boost.
00:57:08So this is on sheer pace, isn't it?
00:57:10Yeah.
00:57:11The Ford looks better through the real tight corners and hairpins.
00:57:14And Hyundai looks a little bit better through the fast corners.
00:57:18But it matches itself out, evens itself out.
00:57:21Tiny, tiny error by Sutton there.
00:57:22So the car offline through turn three drops back from Ingram therefore.
00:57:27And Sutton set to make his GT racing debut next week at Monza.
00:57:31In the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in a BMW M4.
00:57:35That's going to be fascinating to see how he gets on in a totally different environment.
00:57:38With lots of aero, rear wheel drive, two co-drivers over the course of a three hour race.
00:57:43Now Aaron Taylor-Smith in replay getting it wrong, diving into riches.
00:57:46So that gives Sam Osborne the chance to get up the inside and retake the place.
00:57:50And James Dorman likewise.
00:57:51And Ryan Bensley says, wait for me!
00:57:52Yeah, he can't go through.
00:57:53Yeah, but they'll have enjoyed watching this, won't they? Yeah, that's for sure.
00:57:56Yeah, Sutton, just that little mistake, just dropped him off the back, didn't it?
00:58:00Of Ingram.
00:58:02Indeed.
00:58:03He's got one more lap to go at the end of this.
00:58:06And you can, of course, work out with only one lap available.
00:58:10It's the last lap on which Ashton is going to use it.
00:58:12But he wants to try and make sure he gets points.
00:58:15Now they come then through the S's then, the left and the right.
00:58:19Accelerating on now to all bomb hold.
00:58:21Dan Kamish getting away all the time.
00:58:23The gap is up to 2.2 seconds.
00:58:24There'll be one lap to go at the end of this.
00:58:26So Sutton perhaps now wants to start the attack.
00:58:28Get as close as he can do to the Hyundai
00:58:30and then use the boost when he's on that last lap.
00:58:33Coming up towards the timing line.
00:58:35Puff of tail smoke from Ingram to Hyundai.
00:58:37Sutton is right where he wants to be now to attack.
00:58:39Yeah, here we go.
00:58:44So Ingram using the boost over the line.
00:58:46And Sutton goes through behind him.
00:58:48I don't think he's used it yet.
00:58:49So Sutton is doing this on pure natural pace.
00:58:52The gap widens by length also.
00:58:56Well, I mean Sutton must use it on this lap.
00:58:58It's the only lap he's got to use it, isn't it?
00:59:01I haven't seen our graphic flash up,
00:59:03but I have seen Ingram's flash up.
00:59:05So he's definitely using it.
00:59:07So where on the lap does Sutton choose to use it?
00:59:10He wants to be close and perhaps try and make it for the pass.
00:59:13We're on the last lap though.
00:59:14Dan Kamish leads the way.
00:59:15As through goes Sutton out of turn three.
00:59:17Then a long, that short straight down towards Agostini.
00:59:20Dan Kamish looking for a 14th win in the British Touring Car Championship.
00:59:24Sutton again thinks about the inside.
00:59:26Throws it at the inside.
00:59:27Is there going to be contact?
00:59:28There is.
00:59:29I'm coming through, says Agost Sutton.
00:59:30No you're not, says Tom Ingram,
00:59:31who gets forced out a little bit wide.
00:59:33But Hyundai hangs on to the position.
00:59:35But that was Sutton's only really serious move he's made of the race.
00:59:39He didn't quite pay off, but he's not done yet.
00:59:41Yeah, I'm not sure if Sutton just backed out of that
00:59:44because it was a little bit forceful.
00:59:46And he may have been asked to give the position back, but it was as certain that he was having a go, wasn't he?
00:59:52Was he ever?
00:59:53And Tom Ingram may not have expected that, but Ash Sutton knew that was the place he wanted to try.
00:59:58It could have been his only option, really, because he's now got the S's and then Corham turned 12.
01:00:03Difficult to overtake at Corham, but let's see what Sutton can do.
01:00:06He's up against another master of touring car racing in Tom Ingram.
01:00:09Down they come, left and right through the S's.
01:00:11Sutton is on the attack once again.
01:00:13Almost unnoticed, remember, Dan Kamish is heading for the race win up the road.
01:00:17Sutton thinks about the inside, going into Bob Holt,
01:00:19but again there's just not quite enough width for a fourth.
01:00:22But boy, Sutton is not giving up, is he?
01:00:24On this, the last lap of the race for second place.
01:00:26Never mind banking points, Sutton is attack, attack, attack all the time.
01:00:30Dan Kamish comes towards turn 12, then the run up towards the line.
01:00:33Checkered flag awaits, but who is going to be second?
01:00:36Dan Kamish will win round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
01:00:40Kamish wins at Snetterton, second up to the line.
01:00:43It is going to be Tom Ingram, just ahead of Ash Sutton after a brilliant last lap battle between them.
01:00:48Dan Robotson is going to be fourth, Dan Lloyd is fifth, the winning independent.
01:00:51Sixth out of Morgan, seventh Tom Chilton.
01:00:54For eighth place, Chris Smiley.
01:00:56Mikey Doble will be ninth and tenth should be down onto Lyon.
01:00:59Well, Dan Kamish did it, 4.3 seconds for margin, but Dan Kamish's race start still under investigation post-race.
01:01:11The story is not done yet, because normally people investigate things for a good reason.
01:01:16Yeah, and I hate to say, but it wouldn't be the first time Dan Kamish has lost a win.
01:01:22I think it was at Thruston, and he was, he jumped the start, I was just out of position in the box, but I hope it will be okay.
01:01:30But it was a fine drive by Kamish, and the perfect way to bounce back from the disappointment of Brands.
01:01:36So there is Dan Kamish, your provisional race winner.
01:01:41Tom Ingram, second, Ash Sutton, third, and Dan Robotson, fourth, the top six rounded out by Dan Lloyd and Adam Morgan.
01:01:49So, Dan Kamish.
01:01:51Well, here's the start, look at, oh, there was a, there was the tiniest bit of movement there, but we didn't see when the lights went out.
01:01:58That might have been coinciding with the lights going out.
01:02:01So, difficult to tell, but it was a good start.
01:02:06This was the move from, from Sutton on Ingram.
01:02:09Now, did, did Sutton back out of it at this point, because he thought he was too aggressive?
01:02:14I'm not sure, but certainly Ingram very easily then drove around the outside.
01:02:20Yeah, certainly Ash, he's aware, but it's better to back out than get a penalty.
01:02:24Yeah.
01:02:25So, he may well be right.
01:02:26Dan Kamish, certainly doesn't feel he's done anything wrong.
01:02:29Very happy race winner on his in lap, but, er, the officials will have a look and use the timing data as to when the lights went out relative to when Dan Kamish moved.
01:02:41So, the story will continue.
01:02:43But, on the timing screen, it says,
01:02:46R27 race start still under investigation post-race.
01:02:50So, Ian Watson and Dave White, the clerk and deputy clerk of the course, will study the evidence and the story will continue.
01:02:58Round seven of the championship won by Dan Kamish.
01:03:00Tom Ingram second.
01:03:01Ash Sutton on the podium for third.
01:03:03Fourth, Dan Rowbottom.
01:03:04The winning independent fifth, that's Dan Lloyd, ahead of Adam Morgan, with Tom Chilton, Chris Smiley, Mikey Doble and Daryl De Leon rounding out that top ten.
01:03:12Eleventh, Josh Cook from Charles Rainford and Aidan Moffat.
01:03:16Sam Osborne in 14th, ahead of Aaron Taylor Smith.
01:03:18James Dawlin next.
01:03:19Ryan Bensley in his debut 17th.
01:03:21Ronan Pearson got a drive through.
01:03:23Nick Hamilton was off the road.
01:03:24Dexter Patterson came home in 20th after a pit stop.
01:03:2821st was Nick Halstead, but in the pit lane.
01:03:31Jake Hill circulated.
01:03:33We'll find out if he did enough distance to be classified, but we lost with lots of damage.
01:03:37Gordon Shedden and Max Hall.
01:03:39Stephen Jelley done on the opening lap of the race as well.
01:03:43So, what does all that do to the championship order?
01:03:46Well, the answer is that Ash Sutton is now three points up on Tom Ingram, but Jake Hill is 27 further back in third.
01:03:54Dan Kamish up to fourth, ahead of Tom Chilton.
01:03:56Dan Rowbottom sixth, ahead of Adam Morgan.
01:03:58It's Chris Smiley eighth, Charles Rainford is ninth, and the top ten rounded out by Daryl De Leon.
01:04:04So, the first task for Dan Kamish is to successfully get through the technical checks.
01:04:10The roller goes underneath to make sure that the ride height is correct.
01:04:14And the other cars required the top three and the winning independent.
01:04:17That's why Dan Lloyd swinged in in the background.
01:04:20Once the signal is given, then Dan Kamish will be allowed away from that technical area.
01:04:26First up, they need to check the weight of the car.
01:04:30The Toca technical team going through the process.
01:04:34And then, Scruton here with his back to you, Phil Danbury has the board in his hand that says go to Park Fairmay.
01:04:40Which is a reminder to Dan Kamish Park Fairmay up at the top end of the pit lane.
01:04:44And once he gets there, we'll be able to hear from him in due course.
01:04:48But it looks, certainly on that score, that all is good for Dan Kamish.
01:04:52He makes his way up the pit lane.
01:04:54Checks that there's a gap in the traffic to blend back into.
01:04:58So, a Leicester flag win, a second pole position of the season and the fastest lap.
01:05:04But there's this little question mark then hanging over the start of the race.
01:05:09And that's going to be looked at and looked at and looked at to make sure that the outcome of the race is as it should be.
01:05:15But Dan Kamish makes his way up the pit lane.
01:05:18There was a bit of a sigh there, his head dropped as he drove up the pit lane.
01:05:22And I have a feeling he's been told on the radio.
01:05:26Yeah, and there was a bit of shrugging, wasn't there?
01:05:28You can see the hand saying, why? What am I being investigated for? I did nothing wrong.
01:05:32But the message has gone through now, so we'll check his demeanour when he gets out of the car.
01:05:37Because Dan is somebody that wears his heart on his sleeve.
01:05:40Well, there's nothing worse than knowing there's an investigation hanging over you.
01:05:43You can't celebrate until you know the outcome.
01:05:46He won't feel, as you say, he's done anything wrong.
01:05:48But he can't really enjoy this moment at all.
01:05:50No, exactly.
01:05:51So, the story, as I say, will continue for now.
01:05:54The provisional race winner is Dan Kamish.
01:05:57He won on the road by 4.3 seconds.
01:05:59And as you can see, now he's hardly leaping out of the car to celebrate.
01:06:04This might be a rather glum driver that gets out until he knows the outcome.
01:06:09And indeed, should there be a penalty, how far down that dropped him.
01:06:13He's happy with the race win, though, on track.
01:06:15He did everything right and he goes to the team to celebrate that part of it.
01:06:19But as I say, the race officials are going to have a look at the start.
01:06:23So, we'll hear from Dan Kamish and get his take on the start when we come back to Snetterton.
01:06:29And that's right after the break.
01:06:39Round seven of the Quick Fit British Touring Car Championship.
01:06:43Dan Kamish from pole keeping a narrow advantage over Tom Ingram.
01:06:46But back in the pack, Jake Hill, starting from 20th, gets tagged by the Toyotas and turned around.
01:06:51He was out of the race.
01:06:52Max Hall also heading out of the race, but taking the unfortunate Gordon Shedden with him.
01:06:57Up front, Kamish was in charge, but his start was being investigated.
01:07:01Sutton mounted a challenge on Ingram in the final laps.
01:07:04But Kamish took the chequered flag, but there he was receiving the news that his start is under investigation.
01:07:10Let's get the current situation with Louise.
01:07:13Dan, let's talk about the good news first of all.
01:07:15Big tick in the box for that first win.
01:07:17And then fastest lap as well is just the icing on the cake, isn't it?
01:07:20Yeah, absolutely.
01:07:21You know, good start.
01:07:23Got away clean.
01:07:24And then it was always important to manage that first lap again.
01:07:27I knew it was going to be strong.
01:07:28I knew it was going to be the first lap.
01:07:29And we managed to fend him off.
01:07:31And then, yeah, a bit of a boost deficit, obviously, to the other two.
01:07:34So I think they had the work cut out.
01:07:36I did the right things at the right time.
01:07:38Used the advantage when I needed it.
01:07:39And then in the end, actually, it was quite a comfortable margin.
01:07:42We, you know, I don't know if their cars kind of went away or if Ash started attacking.
01:07:46Obviously, I don't know, but it was a fairly sensible win in the end, which is quite nice.
01:07:52A well-controlled win as well.
01:07:54Not just sensible, but a really well-controlled win.
01:07:56Yeah, no, it felt like it.
01:07:57Yeah, I think we did everything right there in terms of, you know, the on-track bit.
01:08:01Yeah, I'm fairly happy with what the car was, what setup we had.
01:08:05You know, to win on the road like that.
01:08:07Yeah, it's a good starting point.
01:08:09You know, yesterday was a good starting point.
01:08:11Today, we've started the day off well.
01:08:12Well, listen, fingers crossed it stays that way.
01:08:14But as you are aware, your start is under investigation.
01:08:17Do you know what that might be for?
01:08:18I'm only aware since you told me, actually.
01:08:20Sorry to be the bear of bad news.
01:08:21I thought the team had told you.
01:08:22I really didn't know that.
01:08:23No, I actually only found out when you told me here.
01:08:25So, at the moment, I don't know what that's for or why.
01:08:27But, you know, let's go find out.
01:08:29Ultimately, the hard thing for me is that I wasn't aware of it.
01:08:32So, I don't get a chance to readdress it on track, obviously, which is a bit of a shame.
01:08:37I think we could have won by more if I had to.
01:08:39So, it's one of those, isn't it?
01:08:41You just don't know.
01:08:42But, hey, look, whatever comes, we've done the job on track.
01:08:46I'm sure it'll still be a handful of points no matter what.
01:08:48And, you know, it picks us up with confidence to move forward.
01:08:51Yeah, well done for that.
01:08:52It's a good race.
01:08:53Well done.
01:08:54Well done.
01:08:55Well, that was under a little bit, a few nervous moments for you in that one in the final couple of laps.
01:09:01Yeah, definitely.
01:09:02Yeah, it was definitely getting fairly close.
01:09:04So, I had to be mindful.
01:09:07I think we lost some brake cooling quite early on into the race.
01:09:10So, I was so vulnerable on the brakes just because they felt like they were a billion degrees.
01:09:14So, yeah, whether we lost a bit of brake cooling early on, I don't know.
01:09:18But, yeah, that's certainly where we were struggling.
01:09:21And then, obviously, once you've got ash in your mirrors as well, you know that if there's two millimeters left to the mark, ash will fill it.
01:09:29So, yeah, it was good.
01:09:31You know, from that side, I knew ash was obviously fairly keen to try and make an attack.
01:09:35And from my side, I knew I couldn't really afford to make a mistake.
01:09:39So, you're always kind of this side of the mark with it as well.
01:09:41But, no, credit to actually stuck a nose in, managed to sort of get a nose coming down into the second hairpin.
01:09:48And then, again, into the bomb hole and that sort of stuff.
01:09:51It's a good touring car racing.
01:09:52You know, that's what we do it for.
01:09:53Like, it's that sort of good hard racing that we really, really enjoy.
01:09:56So, from our side, a good first result.
01:09:58As Team Virtue, we've done very, very well.
01:10:00Kicked the day off strong.
01:10:02We were always going to be slightly behind the mark with where we were with TTB.
01:10:07So, we had to sort of be aware of that.
01:10:10And I didn't know if Dan had had a bit of a jump start at the start of the race.
01:10:14So, I was kind of mindful to not get stuck in in case there was a penalty incoming and leave the door open for this man to sneak in.
01:10:21So, whilst there was a hint of something going on, I thought, I'll just hang back and just be safe.
01:10:25So, yeah, good first result.
01:10:27Let's see how the rest of the day goes.
01:10:28It was a great race to watch, that's for sure.
01:10:30And thanks to...
01:10:31I love the fact you two like racing together.
01:10:33I mean, you were going to lick it and send it at some point, weren't you?
01:10:36Yeah, 100%.
01:10:37It's in the DNA.
01:10:38And no doubt Tom would have done exactly the same thing to me.
01:10:41So, yeah, mega race for us.
01:10:43Obviously, we'd done all the damage on lap one.
01:10:45Well, pretty much before turn one.
01:10:46So, hung it around the outside, took a brave pill and it paid off.
01:10:49So, pleased with that.
01:10:50The amount of deployment we had, it was always going to be tough to progress.
01:10:53But we had good pace in the car.
01:10:55We've come here this weekend with a completely different philosophy on how we sort of engineered a car.
01:11:00And are we in the optimal? Probably not.
01:11:02We've got a bit more to come from it.
01:11:04But, yeah, I had to have a dig on the last lap.
01:11:07I weren't going to let him sit there and think I wasn't.
01:11:09So, it was a little bit maybe over the mark.
01:11:11I just missed the apex.
01:11:12I yielded and gave that one back and then showed my nose again at Baumol.
01:11:15But, no, it was a mega race, mega for Nappa race in the UK with a 1.3.
01:11:19Lovely stuff.
01:11:20Great stuff.
01:11:21We'll see you out there for the next one.
01:11:22We are going to head off for a break now when we come back.
01:11:24The Formula 4 cars are going to be restarting the race that got stopped earlier.
01:11:27So, stay with us for that.
01:11:29I want to reflect on our big first talking point of the day from the Touring Car Championship.
01:11:41And, Dan Kamish, Paul, has he got reason to be concerned about his start line procedure and the investigation?
01:11:46It depends.
01:11:47It depends, obviously.
01:11:48Somebody's seen something.
01:11:49I've only seen the replay once and it looked like his car may have been out of position.
01:11:54Is it left of the box?
01:11:55You have to be square in the box.
01:11:57Oh, he does a little...
01:11:58He goes and then stops.
01:11:59Right, okay.
01:12:00So, it could be a jump, it could be out of position.
01:12:04There's reason to, you know, believe.
01:12:07Let's have a look at it again.
01:12:09If you watch, he goes and then he breaks and goes again.
01:12:12If it is, it's by the finest of margins.
01:12:15He goes and then he goes again.
01:12:16So, I had that in 2003 on pole and I got a drive-through penalty and it was exactly the same.
01:12:24Like you say, if you move, did he stop when the Reds were on?
01:12:28But it doesn't really matter.
01:12:29If you move, you move.
01:12:30I don't think it counts because even a creep, even if you've not passed your line, is a jump start.
01:12:34Even if you move and you're not past your line, it's a jump start.
01:12:37You know, it's any movement that's before the lights go out will be classed as a penalty.
01:12:41So, they'll argue it.
01:12:43They'll take the footage up.
01:12:44They'll argue it.
01:12:45But yeah, from that view, it looks like it's going to be a tough argument in some ways.
01:12:50It was a good drive.
01:12:51He gets his hands on the trophy, but we must remember it's Dan Kamish.
01:12:54He gets absolutely no luck whatsoever.
01:12:56We wish him well and we'll bring you up to date with what happens.
