00:00as the Panthers finished off the Oilers earlier this week in six games back-to-back cups for the
00:06Florida Panthers they have not slept in the last 72 hours as they continue to drag the cup all
00:12around the Fort Lauderdale sunrise area elbow room clubs anywhere you can imagine the Panthers
00:21they've got about six dents in the thing as well by now but when you win to the victor go the
00:26spoil so we'll do a little recap today start getting you set because the offseason is already
00:31in motion there's no doubt about that Tom Vecchio is with us today George Kurtz later on as well as
00:38I'm going to start getting him riled up about the Islanders having the first pick in the draft next
00:41Friday but we start things off with Tom Vecchio here of course who's been on with us a lot this
00:46year Tom good to see you as always my man an end to another NHL season for guys like us
00:53you know it's tough because we love hockey it's a very long grind from October all the way to June
01:00and we could probably use a little bit of a break but it is always sad when the hockey season ends
01:05Tom of course thanks for having me yeah it's uh it's a bit of a mixed emotions really like we know
01:10how long the season is day in and day out but it is good to see the season end on I want to say a bit
01:15of a high note it was a great series uh we roll into the draft free agency right after that uh it's good
01:21to see that the cap is jumping up this year which is obviously very important for a lot of teams and
01:26it's a massive jump uh and then we move into the off season get some trades underway get the free
01:31agency and then training camp in September roll into the season in October and uh you know just
01:37finishing on Florida Tom your your thoughts because I thought you know when you start to really look at
01:42the series as a whole and it started back and forth you know the split in Edmonton the split in
01:48Florida 2-2 going back for game five it seemed like it was a very even series but in reality Tom
01:55when you actually step back and look at the six games and in all it really wasn't uh with how much
02:01time Florida spent with a lead in the series they scored two or more goals in every first period
02:06in all six games I mean it really really wasn't that close to Spike going six games it wasn't overall
02:15with how especially their time difference of like how much Florida was leading and I remember
02:19we I was here on the trade deadline day and I remember talking about Florida saying like you
02:23know I don't like them this year and I didn't like them when it comes when it came to their odds like
02:27I always believed that they had the capability to do it as a team coaching they'd experience but I
02:30never was in favor of their odds so that's what always held me back on them because we were never
02:34getting a great number but what they did in the series proved to me at least like I think that they are
02:39a dynasty and we can have a debate about the definitions of what we're gonna be defining as a
02:44dynasty wherever it might be but they took care of business from top to bottom and I love the fact
02:48that they have essentially interchangeable pieces players moving up down the line I'm on the power
02:52play on the penalty kill first line third line doesn't matter who they have the biggest point of
02:57disparity in the series is the goaltending if you have a team that has any amount of questions in goal
03:02that is not a Stanley Cup caliber team in my opinion so let's just say Bob Roski got lit up for six goals
03:08one game it's like listen it happens he's going to be out there the next game we know that that's not
03:12what we had with the Oilers that's not what they've had for seasons going back with Mike Smith and
03:16Niko Koskina they've never had an elite goalie that is the biggest point that they need to fix
