00:00It's Keto time!
00:12Keto, Keto, Keto.
00:15I challenge you to get my Keto video to 20,000 likes,
00:18and you surpassed that goal plenty.
00:20And I'm actually really excited about this.
00:22I'm unfortunately fresh out of a breakup,
00:26so I'm more motivated than ever to change my lifestyle around,
00:29be healthier, look better.
00:31I want to take you guys along for that journey.
00:33My one month of Keto starts now.
00:51Just do it!
00:54All right, I'm gonna have my very first Keto meal.
00:59It's the middle of the day.
01:00I didn't have breakfast,
01:01so I guess you could say I'm intermittent fasting today as well.
01:04This is my meal here.
01:06Beef chili with Oaxaca cheese, Oaxaca, and cauliflower rice.
01:12To my surprise, the first few days of Keto weren't that bad.
01:16I was totally expecting that I would go with Keto flu symptoms right off the bat.
01:20It wasn't that bad.
01:21I didn't have sugar withdrawal.
01:23All right, well, I'm at the gym right now.
01:26This is my first heavy workout while on Keto.
01:29And I gotta admit, I'm incredibly tired.
01:32And I got a good night's sleep, so it's not because of that.
01:34I suspect that it's probably because I haven't had carbs in four days,
01:38or at least not enough to make me replenish my glycogen stores.
01:43The weight stayed the same.
01:44My strength was there, but I fatigued much earlier in my sets.
01:48Can't even be certain it's due to the Keto diet, but that's what was happening.
01:56Bro, you're a little worse.
01:57All right, my man just shot a shot.
01:59Made me drop my phone.
02:01This guy right here, wannabe basketball player.
02:03All right, today's my first day of cardio with Keto on board.
02:08And I gotta admit, I'm feeling pretty tired.
02:10I just beat both of these guys though.
02:12I was able to keep up with them, and my sprints were fine,
02:15and my game was fine, but I noticed that after a game or two,
02:18when I would be somewhat out of breath, I was totally burnt.
02:21I was really tired, much more than usual.
02:24Again, not certain that it's 100% due to the Keto diet,
02:27but I do suspect Keto is playing a role
02:29in my decreased stamina in my exercise.
02:34The Keto struggle is so real.
02:36I'm eating cat food.
02:38Let me at least fix my hair and make y'all look good.
02:40While Lisa's eating a healthy salad,
02:42with some croutons in there,
02:44I'm eating cat food.
02:45It's not cat food.
02:46Tell them about the cat food.
02:48It's salmon.
02:49What damn cat food?
02:50I'm eating cat food, it's right there.
02:52That's called the Keto struggle.
02:54Going into the second week of Keto,
02:57I was starting to struggle a lot with my food choices.
03:00When I go to work, and I'm gonna be working a long shift,
03:04I can't bring all of these goodies and avocado and all this stuff.
03:08So what did I do?
03:09I brought a Thrive Market can of salmon with some mayonnaise,
03:14and I basically ate cat food.
03:16Eating a diet that's so high in fat,
03:18I mean 75% of my calories were coming from fat,
03:21it's difficult to maintain that,
03:24and I don't plan well.
03:25For example, if I'm going to a big event,
03:27I should probably eat beforehand.
03:29I'm at the Sebastian Maniscalco concert.
03:33The Keto struggle is real,
03:35because this guy is eating a full hot dog,
03:38and I gotta suffer right now with this.
03:41You have to plan ahead if you want to stick to Keto,
03:44because when you go to a fast food joint or a restaurant,
03:47yes, they may have a piece of meat,
03:49but eating high protein is not Keto.
03:51You have to be eating high fat,
03:53so you have to be thinking about
03:54what it is you're gonna choose off the menu.
03:56And you can get a cheeseburger that's very fatty,
03:59has sauce on it, that hopefully is carb-free.
04:02That's not optimal Keto.
04:03That's like the dirty Keto that people talk about.
04:06You're eating high saturated fats,
04:07overcooked red meats, using processed oils,
04:10and that's not something I generally recommend,
04:12or want for myself.
04:18Two weeks in, I already had some results showing.
04:21My clothes were fitting better,
04:22my abs were coming out of hibernation,
04:24like one of them legit came out and said,
04:26what up?
04:27And I was like, oh my God, look at my abs.
04:29I used to see you back in the day,
04:30and then you started hibernating.
04:31It did surprise me that after two weeks of Keto,
04:33I was already starting to see results,
04:35and now I get why this diet is so popular
04:38amongst people who are trying to lose weight quickly.
04:40And not that I'm advocating for that,
04:42but it was nice to see results so early on,
04:44and quite motivational.
04:45I will say though, the majority of the weight loss
04:48that happens in the first week or so,
04:50it's usually water weight.
04:51That's not gonna be sustainable,
04:53that speed of weight loss.
04:56I feel like on Keto, I wake up really hungry.
05:00Normally, I don't mind skipping breakfast,
05:02but on Keto, I'm starving.
05:04It's probably because I'm eating so much less calories
05:06than usual.
05:07Getting into the later weeks of Keto,
05:09I was getting hungry.
05:11That doesn't mean I wasn't satiated.
05:12I mean, eating a lot of fats, you get full quickly
05:15and you're no longer hungry.
05:16But when I say hungry, I mean more like cravings,
05:18bananas, cookies and cream milkshakes.
05:21And then I even noticed a pattern where I was hungry
05:24just because I was bored.
05:26I had a high fat meal.
05:27I had some sardines with guacamole.
05:30I'm full, but I wanna munch on something.
05:33I just wanna eat some chips.
05:34So I realized I like to bored eat.
05:36And on Keto, you really can't bored eat,
05:39unless you just eat nuts all day.
05:41But how much, I don't understand how many almonds
05:43you can eat in one day before you...
05:47I think I broke Keto.
05:49I mean, not technically.
05:50I had several drinks last night.
05:54That technically throws you out of Keto.
05:56They were not sugary drinks.
05:58I just had soda and alcohol,
06:01but that does technically take you out of ketosis,
06:04at least for a short while.
06:05So you probably think I'm a failure.
06:09Look, we all make mistakes.
06:11And two steps forward with one step back
06:14is still one step forward.
06:16That's something that I want you to remember
06:18and take away from my Keto journey.
06:20If you mess up, it's not the end of the world.
06:23It doesn't mean that you're a failure.
06:24Yes, I had a few drinks and it took me out of ketosis
06:27for a little bit because your body actually metabolizes
06:29the alcohol and uses that as energy instead of fats.
06:32But it's fine.
06:33As soon as I stopped drinking the alcohol,
06:35the next day I was probably back in ketosis
06:37and everything was back on track.
06:39So did it slow down my progress?
06:41Probably somewhat, but it wasn't the end of the world.
06:44If I treated it like it was the end of the world,
06:46that would hurt my progress
06:48because that would demotivate me
06:49and cause me to order some cookies and cream milkshakes.
06:52And we know we can't do that on Keto.
06:54I had a renewed determination
06:56to continue and finish my Keto journey.
07:02Even at the mall.
07:06One month of Keto's in the books.
07:10I made it.
07:11I ate 75% of my calories from fat,
07:1420% from protein, 5% from carbs.
07:17I stuck to this bad boy.
07:18But let's talk summary.
07:19Let's talk about what happened.
07:21First and foremost, body.
07:23I started this diet at 208 pounds.
07:26I ended, I weighed in this morning at 202 pounds.
07:30So that's a six pound weight loss in four weeks.
07:32Sounds pretty appropriate,
07:34about a pound and a half per week.
07:35My abs are showing a little bit more,
07:37which gets me really excited for summer.
07:39Now when it comes to my mind,
07:41I don't necessarily feel any big difference that jumps out.
07:46But I do notice that I don't crash as much,
07:49especially in the mid-day section.
07:51Let's talk recommendation.
07:52For the average healthy person,
08:09going on a short course of Keto will help them lose some weight,
08:13and it probably won't be detrimental to their health.
08:15If you're going to start a new diet,
08:17any diet for that matter,
08:18go see your doctor and have that conversation.
08:20Figure out what are the benefits versus harms,
08:22so you can make the most educated decision possible moving forward.
