A 51-year-old former director of the Melaka Youth and Sports Department has claimed trial to five charges of receiving bribes and submitting false claims amounting to RM126,100.

Khairol Adri Rosli entered a plea of not guilty after all the charges were read out to him before Sessions judge Elesabet Paya Wan in Ayer Keroh on Tuesday (June 17).

00:00A 51-year-old former director of the Malacca Youth and Sports Department has claimed trial
00:07to five charges of receiving bribes and submitting false claims nearly two years ago.
00:13Cairo Adri Rosli entered a plea of not guilty after all the charges were read out to him
00:19before Sessions Judge Elizabeth Paya Wan on Tuesday.
00:23On the first charge, the accused is alleged to have submitted false particulars of upgrading
00:28works for the tennis and petanque courts at the Malacca State Youth and Sports Complex,
00:33amounting to 126,100 ringgit.
00:37The offence was allegedly committed at the Youth and Sports Department office on December 8, 2023.
00:45The charge was framed under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
00:52The accused faces up to 20 years jail and a fine no less than five times the value of the
00:57false claim or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
01:03For the second to fifth charges, Cairo Adri is alleged to have received 8,000 ringgit from
01:08one Shari So'od, who had a vested interest in the upgrading works of the tennis and petanque
01:13courts at the complex.
01:15The offences were allegedly committed at four different locations around the Malacca International
01:20Trade Center and Bukit Baru between September 25, 2023 and June 25, last year.
01:29For these offences, Cairo Adri was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries
01:36a sentence of up to two years in prison, or a fine, or both if found guilty.
01:41The court set bail at 20,000 ringgit for all charges and fixed August 15 for next mention.
