Eight people pleaded guilty at a Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court to charges of unlawful confinement, criminal intimidation, extortion and voluntarily causing hurt to a 22-year-old man at an apartment in Masai last week.  The accused between the ages of 19 and 25 entered their pleas when charged before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab on Friday (April 25). 00:21entered their pleas when charged before Magistrate Atifa Hazima Wahab on Friday.

00:26According to the charge sheets, the group, along with two others still at large, wrongfully

00:32confined Mohamed Faris Syahmi Mohamed Rizwan in a flat in Plentong Baru between 10 p.m.

00:39on April 18 and 4 a.m. the following day. They were also charged for threatening him, extorting

00:45him of 650 ringgit and the keys to his motorcycle, as well as using physical violence and threats

00:53to force him into agreeing to pay 3,000 ringgit. The court also heard that all the accused,

00:59except for 22-year-old Nuredriana Balkisi Annabella Norazman, caused physical injuries to the victim

01:07during the incident. The charges were framed under sections 342, 506, 384 and 323 of the Penal Code.

01:19The charges carry up to 14 years' imprisonment for the most serious offence, in addition

01:24to fines or caning upon conviction. The court set bail at 16,000 ringgit for each of the men,

01:32while Nuredriana was granted bail of 14,000 ringgit.

01:37Next mention of the case has been fixed for June 3rd. Earlier, eight suspects involved

01:44in a viral video showing a man being assaulted at an apartment were arrested on Monday.
