00:07Sessions Court to 17 charges of criminal breach of trust involving more than 800,000 ringgit.

00:14The 76-year-old made the plea before Judge Zulhazmi Abdullah on Wednesday. The former

00:21DAP deputy chairman allegedly committed the offences between 2019 and 2023 while leading

00:28the Penang Hindu Endowments Board. He was accused of misusing funds, including nearly 780,000

00:35ringgit for the purchase of a gold chariot without board approval, as well as additional payments

00:41for medical expenses and educational aid, also allegedly made without proper authorization.

00:48All charges were framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison

00:54sentence of 20 years, whipping and a fine if convicted. The prosecution requested bail at

01:0190,000 ringgit for all charges with additional conditions. However, Ramasamy's lawyer Dr.

01:08Shamsar Singh Thind requested for lower bail on the grounds that his client is currently unemployed

01:14and dependent on his pension money. The court granted bail at 78,000 ringgit with one sureties for all 17

01:22charges. Ramasamy was also ordered to surrender his passport and report to the M.A.C.C. once a month.

01:29The case was set for mention on July 15.
