00:00The Pro Motocross Championship is fueled by Monster Energy, Unleash the Beast, and by Honda and the dominant line of CRF Motocrossers.
00:16Well, that's the scene at High Point. Huge crowd on hand. This place has been packed the last couple of years, and what they've seen each time is this.
00:24Monster Energy 250 Fast Qualifier powered by BFS Foods today. Hayden Deegan, he also did it in 2023 and 2024 at this track.
00:34Yeah, Hayden Deegan's got this track figured out, and one of the key to it is roll speed.
00:40These guys, as we heard down at JT talking about some of the insides and outsides, you know, you got to choose a line.
00:45Well, these guys got to make that choice, but also keep up their roll speed.
00:48So today's going to be super important for all of them. One, to get a good start, but keep that momentum up and chase that number one down.
00:54And that's the KTM keys to the moto. Fly Racing 30-second card is up. 40 riders on the gate.
01:00Each class will race twice today. The duration, 30 minutes and two laps.
01:04So stay with us for the next four-plus hours. Live action here on Peacock and the SMX Video Pass.
01:10Get the pointers on Haymus and Deegan. A rematch from last week. Let's go!
01:14Looks like Deegan and his teammate, Nate Thrasher, battling for the whole shot. Thrasher on the 41. Has it.
01:25Look at the 16 of the inside. Tom Vielle and the Australian, Caden Meneer. Second pro race going for it as well.
01:32Oh, I've been waiting for this to happen. Good to see Nate out front.
01:35And quickly as that, Hayden Deegan moves his way up to the second position.
01:39So great start for the star and Yamaha. These guys are out front. So many things going on.
01:46Yeah, well, one, two, three. Hard to call them all. Yes, it's now Thrasher, Deegan, and Meneer.
01:50We mentioned Vielle. A good start by Drew Adams. Good to see the rookie right there.
01:56I think he just made some more passes.
01:58Yeah, Drew made his way around. Caden Meneer actually looked like Tom Vielle.
02:01Oh, excuse me. And good start for him. Both these rookies up here trying to do some things.
02:06Caden Meneer, which is a young one. Last weekend was his first race.
02:10So got his teammates, which he rides with every single, every day during the week.
02:14Let's see what he can do with it.
02:16So watch Deegan, who is right there battling, trying to find what's right there.
02:21Sure was those lines JT was talking about, that outside, inside. So wide, this racetrack.
02:28Yeah, there it is.
02:29They worked on some of this. It looks like Hayden's going to try to go around the outside.
02:32It's going to funnel back down. Let's see if Nate can close that off.
02:35A lot of ruts down here, which you can't see, but number one's up the inside already.
02:39And into the lead already. So Deegan to the number one spot.
02:44Back section of the track about to emerge at the top of the hill.
02:49Yeah, it looks like we lost Caden Meneer. It looks like he goes down, and that moves Drew Adams up to third place.
02:54So good to see the rookie up here.
02:57Yeah, there you see the green machine, the monster, Pro Circuit Kawasaki in third.
03:02What's the goal for Deegan now? Get away?
03:04Yeah, I mean, I think after last weekend, going 2-2, which is a great day for most, but not good enough for Hayden Deegan.
03:10This is exactly where he wants to be.
03:11When you go back to last year, he got bad starts, so this is new to him.
03:15Normally, this is after 15 minutes, but I suspect Hayden Deegan is going to throw down the gauntlet right here, try to get a little gap and manage it from that point.
03:23Well, here's what's interesting. It's the first time Deegan has led the first lap of a race this year.
03:27He's been awfully patient early in these races, and then works his way forward today out front early.
03:34Katie?
03:34Well, the team was telling me that Hayden Deegan had that kind of pressure off of his back, guys.
03:39It was like that winning streak was gone, and so he didn't have to worry about having that perfect season.
03:44But, in fact, that's something that I think is really interesting, Stu, from a writer's perspective.
03:48The fact that that streak is over for him, doesn't he maybe want to start that streak again and see when he can kind of come alive with it?
03:55Yeah, he almost came off the track with it right there.
03:57But, yeah, I think for Hayden, it's one thing losing a winning streak, you know, on your own mistake, but it's another one getting beat.
04:04And I think with him, you know, it's pretty easy for him to refocus because, oh, the way it happened last week, he was trying to chase down chances.
04:11We were watching Levi try to get around his teammate right here for third place.
04:15But back to Hayden Deegan, he takes a look back.
04:17I think he's just easy to just go back out there and win because that's where he belongs at.
04:21And it's a great way to start another streak up by being out front.
04:24You saw Kitchen make the move on Adams.
04:27You mentioned, James, this is at least better.
04:30This Pro Circuit team, they have been fast, but they have not been able to get good starts together.
04:34Oh, that's actually Hamaker up there.
04:36So we've lost both Muneer and Drew Adams, the two rookies who started well.
04:42First lap, not kind to them.
04:44But anyway, this is at least some progress off the gate to see Kitchen and Hamaker third and fourth early.
04:50Yeah, I mean, this would be a great start.
04:52I mean, we saw Levi finish the motos last weekend.
04:55He was really confident.
04:56One, how he finished that moto, but his fitness, everything was coming good.
05:00And the weekend before, he was able to get third.
05:01So I like when I see Levi Kitchen opening up the kitchen for business for free.
05:06Only problem is he's got to chase down at number one, which is looking back already trying to get away from him.
05:10And then there's Nate Thrasher in second.
05:12A bad weekend last weekend.
05:14A crash the weekend before that at Hangtown.
05:17And it has been a very rough start to pro motocross.
05:20He's running well.
05:21And now it looks like the 16 of the Owl starting to come back to life in orange on the Red Bull KTM.
05:27Yeah, we heard Seth talk before the moto.
05:29He has a shoulder injury.
05:30So with this racetrack, these downhills are probably going to be really tough for him.
05:33So if you see him starting to struggle, these guys have been able to catch up on him as he's moving downhill.
05:38You've got to believe that's partly of that shoulder.
05:40So it's going to be a tough day for Nate if he can just survive these opening laps, that shoulder will loosen up,
05:45and then he'll be able to maybe catch a toe with these guys.
05:49Now, meanwhile, Muneer, who was up there early, is 15th, and Drew Adams is 23rd.
05:55Muneer, you mentioned that he turned pro last week.
05:58He still had his amateur suspension because he had not ridden the pro bike.
06:01It was such a late call-up.
06:03And then it had a lot of rain at home.
06:05So this is actually his debut racing with the real pro-level stiffer suspension.
06:10Would have been interesting to see what he could do.
06:12But then the crash after running second early.
06:14Followed Villal here in fifth.
06:16Yeah, well, just speaking on that, I know that's a big change for anyone to make that change
06:22because it is a lot different amateur bumps compared to the pro bump.
06:25So we're watching some passes being made right here.
06:27I think that's Casey Cochran, I believe.
06:29And Jalik Swole.
06:31Yeah.
06:31Yeah, 22.
06:32Yep.
06:33Swole, welcome back.
06:33Yeah, when I see that 22, I think I'm aboard Chad Reed.
06:37So, you know, good to see Jalik out here.
06:39You know, a lot of things are probably going to happen for him fast because he's been out.
06:43But, yeah, just that suspension change, as Cade Muneer has to deal with,
06:47it's going to be a big change because the amateur bumps are a lot smaller.
06:49So making that change here, not having a lot of time,
06:52I'm sure it's going to be a lot to get used to for the rookie.
06:54Let's see if he can move forward as you're watching the Honda teammates here, Shimoda and Hymas.
07:00Hymas has had great starts this year, three hole shots and six motos.
07:03But, sorry, he didn't get the jump in this one.
07:06JT.
07:07Yeah, speaking of that, Weegee, you know, talking about the jump,
07:10it seems like so many of these guys have been so start dependent.
07:13And most of the time it's been for the net positive.
07:16Shimoda had such a strong start to the series with reasonably good starts.
07:20Hymas, we saw how powerful that could be last weekend.
07:22But the one rider who really hasn't been subject to any of that has been Hayden Deacon.
07:27Then you glance up at the points and you start to understand why he has a 25-point lead.
07:31And also, James, I just wanted to throw out there the phrase,
07:34my boy Chad Reed is something I never, ever thought you would say in this lifetime.
07:38So well done on that one.
07:39Hey, everybody's changed.
07:40It's Father's Day weekend, Chad.
07:42What up?
07:42But everybody's got to change.
07:44But, you know, nonetheless, I think this is what we talked about in Race Day Live
07:47when you talk about Chance Hymas, to be a title threat.
07:50I think it's important for him to move his way up through these guys
07:53because the only way you're going to be a title threat for Hayden,
07:55you might not be able to beat him this first moto because Hayden's out front,
07:59but you've got to finish behind him.
08:00And the only way you can be able to do that is to be able to pass these group of riders.
08:04And as JT said, a lot of these guys are start-dependent.
08:06So let's see if Chance, that 1-1, gave him that confidence
08:09as his teammate's trying to get around Casey Cochran right in front of him.
08:13Cochran on that Rockstar Gas Gas, he is not making it easy on Shimoda.
08:18No, Casey's been around really good.
08:19I ran into him at the airport, and he said just being up front,
08:22he's starting to learn that pace.
08:24And coming off the injury, it's tough for you if you're not out here racing all year long,
08:28which he hasn't, he's going to get confidence,
08:30and he's going to be hard to pace to beat.
08:33And Joe Shimoda's finding that right now.
08:36Bottom box is the leader, Deegan, who's opened it up to 5.5 seconds
08:40over Thrasher, Kitchen in third.
08:42A little bit further back is this battle, Hymas on the 10.
08:47Got Marks Banks.
08:48Oh, yeah.
08:48Yeah.
08:49Unfortunately for Garrett, this has been a similar story all year long,
08:52and he's been rocking really good to be able to make his way up,
08:55at least a lot of times in the top five,
08:57finishing third overall last weekend.
08:59Great second mode, again, eighth after going down to the first corner,
09:01but can't start in the back if you're trying to get up and win these races,
09:05and maybe some of the results doesn't show how good Garrett's been riding all year long.
09:10A little bit in defense of that Pro Circuit team with a bad start.
09:13Adams, Kitchen, and March Banks,
09:16they might be the three heaviest guys in this field.
09:19Kitchen really tall.
09:20The other two are pretty stout,
09:21as Shimoda and Cochran continue to battle.
09:24Nice line by the 30 of Shimoda.
09:27Yeah, that was beautiful,
09:28and that's the one thing that I love about here at Mount Morris
09:31is that it opens up a lot of corners,
09:33especially if it's not rutted.
09:35These guys can move around.
09:37And Shimoda makes the pass.
09:38Has for Hymas right behind them.
09:40Give you a replay.
09:40Oh, Shimoda down to the bottom of the hill.
09:43Yeah, easily can happen,
09:44which you can't tell on TV how steep that corner is,
09:47and Joe was just trying to get down to that inside rut
09:49because there's a really good inside rut that these guys can bank off.
09:52It's going to be costly for Joe.
09:55Now, as Boland and Masterpool battle past Shimoda,
09:58we'll show you Hymas' start here in the box.
10:01Yeah, we were watching for the overhead shot,
10:04and you could tell off the gate he didn't get the jump,
10:06and when he didn't get the jump, he got closed off,
10:08and that's all she rode.
10:09And so now he's going to be a salmon swimming upstream at this point,
10:13trying to move around.
10:14And here's Shimoda's crash.
10:15Yeah, Joe's right here.
10:17He's trying to get it.
10:17It looks like he tries to move over to the inside.
10:20You can see his front tire just pops over that rut.
10:22There's one where a chance there was an inside rut
10:24that Joe was trying to get to.
10:26Didn't happen.
10:27Easy way to lose the front end there,
10:29and that's going to be costly for him.
10:32JT.
10:33Yeah, just watching that Joe Shimoda crash.
10:34We saw a similar type of crash from Cooper Webb in qualifying practice.
10:38Same corner, different line.
10:40But it's coming down that hill.
10:42It's so steep there,
10:43and they're putting so much pressure on the front end there.
10:46If you lose traction even for a split second with that front tire,
10:49you end up on your head.
10:50So those guys have to be really mindful in those sections
10:52to really practice their technique,
10:54get their body English,
10:56and really weight that front tire
10:57to make sure that they don't slip at all.
10:59Yeah, absolutely.
10:59And what makes it even more difficult,
11:01a lot of these corners are off-camber,
11:02and what that means is, like,
11:04if you're walking,
11:05all of us have walked up the side of a hill.
11:06Well, if you just try to walk up a hill
11:08and then try to walk sideways,
11:09that's what off-camber it is.
11:11So your feet are always slipping away.
11:13That's what happens to Joe.
11:14Losing that front end goes down.
11:16Easy to happen.
11:18A couple of battles to watch here.
11:19You've got the teammates,
11:20Kitchen and Hammaker,
11:21in the bottom box battling for third,
11:23trying to close on Thrasher.
11:26And in this top box,
11:27that's Bolin versus Masterpol,
11:29who's last year's winner of this race.
11:32And then Shimoda.
11:34Yeah, and earlier I was talking about Ty,
11:35if he can, excuse me, not Ty,
11:37but Seth, if he can just hold on
11:39and get that shoulder warmed up,
11:40maybe he'll be able to catch a toe,
11:42and it looks like that's what he's doing,
11:43because behind him,
11:44he's got Tom Biao right behind him.
11:48So they're kind of pushing the pace.
11:49Unfortunately, they're about almost seven seconds
11:51behind the leader, Hayden Deegan,
11:52which is just trying to run away from him.
11:53Now at the bottom,
11:55you see Kitchen has bridged the gap
11:56to second-place Thrasher.
11:59That was a nice move
12:01that was just made right there.
12:05This is going to be interesting
12:06as Kitchen moves up, Katie.
12:08That would be.
12:09He knows that he has the pace.
12:10He actually told me earlier today
12:11it was a start that he really needed to work on,
12:13but his opening lap speed,
12:16those two combined,
12:17if he could get those dialed in,
12:18he knew he had the pace to get the job done.
12:21Something to take into consideration, though,
12:22is he's had a mental coach
12:24that he said has changed the game for him.
12:26He also has put on a lot of weight,
12:28and that's actually been helpful.
12:29You guys were talking about him
12:30and Garrett earlier
12:31about the weight and the heaviness of them.
12:33He knows that's one of actually
12:34the things he's been working on
12:35and one of the important factors
12:37for him as well
12:38in hopes that he can get around here,
12:40Nate Thrasher.
12:42Definitely getting stronger, Katie,
12:43and just makes the move here, James, for second.
12:45Yeah, well, you can see that pass.
12:46Nate was trying to get back to the inside,
12:47but because these corners are so off-camera,
12:49Nate couldn't get back towards it
12:51to close that door off,
12:51but nice pass by Levi.
12:53And when these guys are talking about
12:54putting on weights,
12:55they're talking about putting on muscle,
12:56and we're not talking about
12:57going from 150 pounds to 170.
12:59It's just about putting on weight
13:01in the right position.
13:02So Levi Kitchen
13:03definitely not figured out
13:05whatever it is,
13:05the mental culture,
13:06whatever it is,
13:07he's starting to figure that part out.
13:08So maybe he can cut into
13:09Hayden Deacon's league.
13:10As for Thrasher there in third,
13:14I said it's been a slow start to the season.
13:16His best moto finish so far this year
13:18is 18th,
13:19and now he's running third.
13:22Yeah, I mean,
13:22that just showed you what a start.
13:24Things are starting to come quickly for Nate.
13:27It's weird,
13:27because if you haven't been up here,
13:29that pace really,
13:30it happens fast,
13:32and in this field,
13:33as you can see,
13:34there's a guy behind him,
13:35there's another guy behind the other guy,
13:37there's always going.
13:38So Nate,
13:39when things start coming unrattled,
13:41there's about five guys
13:41that you can instantly get past,
13:43and then it just starts to go downhill.
13:44So Nate knows how to,
13:46he's won races before,
13:47and Supercross,
13:49just needs to get used to all these guys,
13:50because I believe he has the pace.
13:52It's really about just being comfortable up front,
13:55then being able to run that pace,
13:56and he'll figure it out.
13:58Give me a check-in with that Monster Energy.
14:00Yamaha Star Racing Team,
14:01Deacon in the lead.
14:04Thrasher now third.
14:05Moseman,
14:05another quiet but very effective ride,
14:08his sixth,
14:08and Muneer,
14:09who had that great start,
14:10now back to 18th,
14:12again in his second pro race,
14:13the young Australian.
14:16Now the career best finish outdoors for,
14:18Thrasher is a fourth,
14:20which had an Ironman a couple of years ago.
14:23See if he can stay in that spot,
14:24he's third at the moment,
14:25but Seth Hamaker closing on the 56th.
14:28Yeah,
14:28I like Seth Finn out here,
14:30he said he wanted to get top five,
14:31so normally when a guy like Seth is up here,
14:33obviously the crashes and stuff have been hindering him,
14:36so for him,
14:37he's rotting,
14:38he's trying 100%,
14:39but at the same time,
14:40he's also trying to be cautious,
14:41and make sure he doesn't go down,
14:42hurt that shoulder again,
14:43and he knows top fives,
14:45he can build that confidence,
14:46and then eventually get a win.
14:48Yeah,
14:50Seth,
14:51actually he and Thrasher crashed together at Hangtown,
14:55second turn of the race,
14:58Hamaker got up,
15:00and then immediately crashed even bigger,
15:02going downhill in the very next section of the track,
15:04and that's what led to the shoulder injury,
15:07that prevented it from racing last weekend.
15:10So a nice comeback here for Seth,
15:13and that is third and fourth.
15:16Fifth is Vial next.
15:19Send it back to JT.
15:21Well,
15:22Tom Vial,
15:22he really,
15:23you know,
15:23came into this series thinking he was going to be a championship contender,
15:26and it started pretty well.
15:28His first round at Fox Raceway,
15:30he gets on the podium.
15:30I even asked him,
15:31hey,
15:31are you content with beating a podium guy?
15:33He's like,
15:33no,
15:34absolutely not.
15:34I want to win.
15:35Well,
15:35ever since then,
15:36things have not gone very well,
15:38so he's back running around near the top five,
15:40but he has got to try to find some positive momentum
15:42and get back to the form that we know he has.
15:45Yeah,
15:45speaking about some form,
15:46Michael Moselman,
15:47before he got out there on track,
15:49he was so chill on the start line.
15:51He was doing some yoga,
15:52actually some stretching.
15:53It was pretty cool to see him in that position.
15:56Of course,
15:56he's had three podiums,
15:58but this season,
15:59right,
15:59so far,
16:00it's only been an eighth,
16:01a tenth,
16:01and a 14th,
16:02and he's a guy that knows how to get the job done.
16:04In fact,
16:04here at High Point,
16:05last time he was out here racing,
16:07which was,
16:07by the way,
16:08in 2022,
16:09he ran a fourth,
16:10so it's a place he's been comfortable at,
16:12but he really needs to dial it in a little bit more.
16:14Yeah,
16:15if your chance,
16:16Hymas right here,
16:16you've got to be somewhat bummed,
16:18because coming off last weekend,
16:19going that one-one,
16:20being fast in practice as well,
16:22you knew you wanted to come out here
16:23and try to get another win,
16:25and it's going to be hard for you,
16:26because you don't really see the guy in front of you,
16:28so you've got to continue to race forward.
16:30Look at the pit board,
16:31and a mechanic there,
16:32chase the guy in front of you,
16:33chase that pit board,
16:34try to bring those lap times down
16:36to see if you can close the gap,
16:37because right now you're by the second off
16:38of what the pace you need to be running
16:39to catch the guys in front of you.
16:42And dealing with a little pressure
16:43from Marchbanks,
16:45who's behind him in eighth.
16:47Marchbanks,
16:48only man left out in California
16:49for that monster pro circuit Kawasaki team.
16:52His teammates have all headed east,
16:54but the factory 450 riders like Jason Anderson
16:58are still out in California,
17:00so he's been riding with Anderson now.
17:02That is, 250 teammates are gone.
17:04Also gone is half the moto here.
17:07Hold up.
17:08Shout out to Monster Energy for backing us here,
17:11and a reminder that you can purchase Monster Energy.
17:13It's available at BFS Foods.
17:16What are you seeing here, James?
17:17Yeah, I was looking at Seth Handmaker
17:19got around Nate Thrasher,
17:20so he moves his way up to third
17:23and see if he can keep on with his teammate.
17:25Levi has a pretty good pace.
17:26He's losing.
17:27He was able to catch Hayden a lot before,
17:29but then Hayden dropped the hammer
17:30and went back to 209,
17:32Levi in the 211,
17:33and I think a lot of that comes from
17:34is that Levi eventually is going to start
17:37riding behind him
17:38because he can't see Hayden,
17:39and it's just hard to chase a rabbit
17:41that you can't see,
17:42and it's easy to start looking back
17:43at your teammate coming up,
17:44and you always want to beat your teammate,
17:46so this race is going to go all the way down
17:48to the finish if these two stay up.
17:51What surprised me,
17:51some of these back sections here,
17:53it looks like he is not charging at all.
17:55That must be how technical,
17:56how difficult the track is
17:57because obviously he's still going fast.
17:59Yeah, I think a lot in these back sections
18:01where we had some rain,
18:02some of those, the gnarly G outs,
18:04what you can't see is the holes
18:06at the bottom of it
18:07because the rain water had to come off somewhere,
18:09so some of these sections you can see
18:11these guys, if we come back to it,
18:13they'll slow down
18:14because actually the rain is sitting down there,
18:16it's just getting a deeper, deeper hole,
18:17so Levi, I think he's doing a good job.
18:19He's pushing it,
18:20but it's a difficult racetrack,
18:22and it's hard when you see him as number one
18:24just pulling it away from you
18:26no matter how hard you try.
18:28JT.
18:29Well, speaking of doing a good job,
18:30Hayden, he's certainly doing that,
18:32and I wanted to ask you guys,
18:33did you guys notice him?
18:34He was our fastest qualifier,
18:36and I got a chance to speak to him right afterwards.
18:37There was not a lot of joking around.
18:40You know, typically he's got to take a jab to people,
18:42having some fun with the interview.
18:44He was all business this morning.
18:46James, I'm just wondering,
18:47do you think that is coming off of last weekend
18:50and just his overall mindset entering this round?
18:52Oh, 100%, 100%,
18:54and you would think that because of his points lead,
18:56he'd be really relaxed,
18:57and I heard him,
18:59we spoke to his dad, you know, Brian,
19:01and he said, you know,
19:02what's the message being sent,
19:03and he didn't really throw us out there.
19:06You know, he said he won.
19:06Hayden wanted to win,
19:07but he also said that
19:08as he gets close to jumping off the racetrack,
19:10he also said Hayden woke up.
19:12He can tell by his son's attitude
19:13that it was going to be a good day,
19:14and when you were talking to him, JT,
19:16it seemed like that.
19:17No playing around.
19:18He knew he wanted to stop that number 10
19:20from getting any confidence,
19:21and what better way to do it
19:22than what you're doing right now
19:23with an 11-second lead.
19:25And as he pulls away,
19:27you can focus on that bottom box.
19:28Good battle now between the teammates,
19:30Moseman and Thrasher,
19:31fifth and sixth.
19:32Katie.
19:33Going back up to Hayden Deacon,
19:34guys, there's so much
19:35you could talk about with this guy,
19:36but Brent Duffy,
19:37his mechanic was telling me
19:38after practice today,
19:39he came off the track,
19:40and he said, man,
19:41I left some speed out there.
19:42So, of course,
19:43that shows the team
19:44that he is confident,
19:46and guys,
19:46confidence brings confidence, right?
19:48Stu, you know that one well.
19:50Yeah, and if you're looking
19:51at dictionary confidence,
19:54you've got to see a picture
19:54of Hayden Deacon
19:55because he has the confidence,
19:56and why wouldn't you?
19:58Now, he has the luxury right now,
20:00like he's pulling away
20:01from these guys,
20:01but honestly,
20:02he's probably rotting
20:03in his heart,
20:04probably 80%,
20:04so he's saving energy.
20:06He's been able to move around,
20:08and on this racetrack
20:09that is easy to make mistakes,
20:10he's been able to choose
20:12his own lines
20:12and not rush certain sections,
20:14so compared to a guy like Levi,
20:16has to make up time,
20:17so he has to push it down.
20:19Hayden's in the perfect position,
20:20and I'm sure he's saving energy
20:22at this point,
20:23and it's going to be hard
20:24for these guys
20:24to beat him in the second moto
20:25because he's not riding
20:26that hard at the moment.
20:29We saw the work he could do
20:30without good starts
20:32and how strong he could be
20:33late in the motos a year ago.
20:35Yeah,
20:35now it's making life
20:36much easier on himself.
20:38Yeah,
20:39I like this inside line.
20:40We saw it a lot
20:41before Garrett Marchbank.
20:42He went on the outside,
20:43then he cut all the way
20:44back to the right,
20:44so being patient,
20:46and Hayden has that luxury
20:47to be able to just slow down
20:48and get to that inside.
20:50It sets you up better
20:50for that tunnel jump,
20:52and if you just watch him,
20:53all his lines,
20:54he's not rushing in any corner.
20:55He's going exactly
20:56where he wants to go.
20:57If he wants to miss a bump,
20:58he'll slow down
20:59and move his way
21:00around the racetrack,
21:01and the reason he's able
21:02to do that is because
21:02he's out front,
21:03nobody's pressuring him.
21:06And the Super Motocross
21:07playoffs return with racing
21:09September 6th
21:10in Charlotte, North Carolina,
21:11September 13th,
21:12St. Louis, Missouri,
21:13and then in September,
21:15join us for the
21:15SMX World Championship Final
21:17in Las Vegas, Nevada.
21:19Champions are crowned
21:20like Hayden Deegan
21:21has been the last two years.
21:23For tickets and information,
21:24go to supermotocross.com.
21:27Love the hybrid tracks,
21:28the two-day format,
21:29and much, much more.
21:31And Deegan will be aiming
21:32for the three-peat
21:33in the 250 division,
21:34as will Jet Lawrence
21:35trying to do the same
21:37in the 450 class.
21:39Look,
21:40a bunch of Jets men
21:41over there.
21:41Like this outside line.
21:46Slow down right here.
21:47Pop over this.
21:48JT.
21:49Yeah, just watching
21:50Deegan's line choice here.
21:52James, this is the position
21:53you found yourself in.
21:54I would say 12 seconds
21:55might be on the lower side
21:56of the position
21:57you found yourself in
21:58at this racetrack.
21:59But you notice,
22:00he's taking the smoothest lines
22:01all the way around
22:02the racetrack,
22:03and I just wanted to follow
22:03what you were talking about.
22:05This is the advantage
22:06you get when you have
22:07a lead like this.
22:08He doesn't have to take
22:09necessarily the fastest line.
22:11He can take the smoothest line.
22:12That's going to set him up
22:13so nicely for the second moto
22:15because he's not hitting
22:16any bumps.
22:16He's saving so much energy.
22:18Those guys in the battle,
22:20they are forced to take
22:21the absolute fastest
22:22and most often roughest line
22:24around the racetrack.
22:24So there's so many benefits
22:26to getting out
22:26and getting a lead like this.
22:28No, absolutely.
22:29You saw him jump
22:30all the way down that hill,
22:31and if he had somebody
22:32behind him,
22:33he would have to try
22:33to make it to that inside
22:34because he'd have to worry
22:35about somebody coming to him.
22:36But because he's out front,
22:38as you can see him,
22:39you know,
22:40cut back across that corner,
22:41it just works out
22:41beautiful for him.
22:42Now we're watching the battle.
22:44It's Master Pole.
22:46Moving up,
22:47battling Shimoda.
22:49That's Joe got back up.
22:50Okay, good.
22:52And here's that downhill
22:53from a different view.
22:54So yeah,
22:54Shimoda's got to go
22:55inside here, right?
22:56Yeah, so Hayden
22:57jumped all the way down
22:58and if somebody like Joe
22:59was behind him,
23:00he would have to get back over.
23:01But Joe didn't get
23:02that corner properly,
23:03and now he's getting passed
23:05and he's going to be frustrated
23:05because, again,
23:06he just lost that time.
23:07Now he's got to go back to work
23:08and try to get back through him.
23:10Katie?
23:11One thing to note
23:11about Ty Master Pole
23:12is he went back to Texas
23:14this week,
23:14and why is that important?
23:16Well, last year,
23:17at high point
23:18when he got the 300th win
23:19for Pro Circuit
23:20and he won this race,
23:21he also went back to Texas.
23:23And it was a bit of a reset.
23:25That's exactly what he needed
23:26after the last few rounds
23:27where he's felt sick,
23:28he's had issues
23:28even throwing up
23:30and different things.
23:31He's hoping that Texas
23:32homage would have paid
23:34a little bit of
23:35just relaxation and rest for him.
23:37Another thing to note about Ty
23:38is he changed
23:38to a nutritionist recently,
23:40and he's hoping
23:40that also helps
23:41his health
23:42both on and off track.
23:44Yeah, thanks, Katie.
23:44He said he actually
23:45hooked up with a nutritionist
23:46through Levi Kitchen
23:48because Ty has had some problems.
23:50Kitchen said
23:50when he was battling him
23:51last weekend
23:52in that second moto,
23:53he's like,
23:53well, I knew the guy
23:54was going to fade.
23:54I literally saw him
23:55throwing up
23:56before the second moto.
23:58And we've been talking
23:58about that all year
23:59as you were saying
24:00the teammates
24:00can't quite hide
24:01the ailments
24:02from each other.
24:03No, they can't.
24:04And especially like,
24:05you know,
24:05in Ty's situation
24:07and Levi,
24:07he's like,
24:08look, you know,
24:08I fed him.
24:09He's working
24:09with my nutrition.
24:10I know he's throwing up
24:11over there.
24:12So come to my kitchen,
24:13I'll help you out.
24:14But yeah,
24:15when your teammate,
24:15you're battling
24:16for your teammate
24:16for a championship,
24:18you know all the secrets.
24:19And you've got to think
24:20about in the 450 class,
24:21the Lawrence brothers,
24:22you know,
24:22Jen Lawrence,
24:23he knows everything
24:24about his brother.
24:25So there's no secrets.
24:26Just got to go out there.
24:28Let's see if Joe
24:28can go back to work on Ty.
24:30There'll be some opportunities
24:31to make some passes
24:32and here might be
24:33one of them right here.
24:34Joe's getting close,
24:35but Ty's going to be back
24:36alongside of him.
24:37Got this gnarly
24:38breaking bump.
24:38Let's see if Ty can get
24:39close to him on inside
24:40or Joe's going to cut him off.
24:41There you go.
24:42He did.
24:43That's a great battle.
24:44They passed each other
24:45a couple of times
24:45and look,
24:46Masterpool fighting back again.
24:48Yeah,
24:48but Ty's going to try
24:49to set him up
24:49and see if he can square him up.
24:51But Joe did a pretty good line
24:52right there being defensive.
24:54But there you go.
24:55A lot of opportunities.
24:57I expect Joe's going to go
24:58around the outside.
24:59Good job, Ty.
25:01Wow.
25:01And they've caught Thrasher now
25:04who's right in front of them.
25:05Top box is Hymas
25:06who is catching Moseman
25:08for fifth.
25:09Three-rider fight now.
25:12Thrasher,
25:13Masterpool Shimoda.
25:14Yeah,
25:15that's one thing here
25:16at Mount Morris.
25:17All these different lines.
25:18Once you get into it,
25:19some of these corners,
25:20you've got to stay in that rut.
25:21But it gives you an opportunity
25:22to make some passes
25:24if you're Joe Shimoda.
25:25And this will be
25:25another opportunity.
25:27See what Ty does.
25:28Now he's going to run it
25:29up the inside.
25:29Ty probably hit the brakes
25:30and try to square
25:31underneath him like that.
25:33It's unbelievable.
25:35It's good.
25:35And all that being said,
25:36they're closing in
25:37on Nate Thrasher
25:39right in front of him.
25:40So,
25:41great stuff.
25:42And then Hymas
25:43continuing to close.
25:45Moseman for fifth.
25:46They all up to fourth.
25:49Masterpool Shimoda.
25:50More passes
25:51en route.
25:53Yeah,
25:53one of them is trying
25:54to get a twofer.
25:55Bogo special.
25:57And Ty's in a difficult spot
25:58because he wants
25:59to try to pass Michael,
26:00but then he's got Joe.
26:02And sometimes you've got
26:02to leave that door open.
26:03Now Michael's starting
26:04to slow him down.
26:06And Joe's going to go around
26:07outside of both of them.
26:09Here's the Bogo.
26:10Yeah,
26:10Bogo special.
26:11Got it.
26:12Got the lightning deal
26:13right there.
26:14I like it, man.
26:16Look for those labels
26:17on the clearance rack.
26:18You know.
26:18You see the bright colors.
26:20It's a good deal.
26:21And Masterpool able
26:22to pass Moseman.
26:24Thrasher as well.
26:25They're going.
26:26Yeah,
26:26we were looking at Michael,
26:27but yeah,
26:27that is Nate Thrasher
26:28right there.
26:29Yep.
26:30Yeah,
26:30Moseman is battling
26:31with the other Honda.
26:32Yeah.
26:32Hymas in the other box.
26:33He was in that battle box
26:34earlier.
26:35Uh-huh.
26:36Hey,
26:36lots of teammates out here.
26:37Okay,
26:38so now,
26:39will Shimoda be able
26:40to end this
26:41with Masterpool?
26:43Will Ty come
26:43back on him?
26:45Yeah,
26:45normally,
26:46most riders
26:47that Joe,
26:47if he has somebody
26:48to chase,
26:49then I think
26:49he'll be able
26:49to end it
26:50because clearly,
26:51I think he's faster
26:51than,
26:52you know,
26:54Ty at this point.
26:55But if he doesn't have
26:55a rabbit to chase,
26:57as I mentioned
26:58with Levi,
26:58it's easy to start
26:59riding behind you.
27:00So,
27:00we'll see what happens.
27:01But somewhat
27:02a good ride
27:02by chance.
27:04This is what
27:04I wanted to see.
27:05Could he be able
27:05to come up
27:06through the pack?
27:06He's got to spread
27:07it out for him,
27:08so now he's got
27:09to close the gap.
27:10But still,
27:10if he can get
27:11within the top five,
27:12maybe even,
27:12you know,
27:13close to Tom Bial,
27:14it'd be somewhat
27:15of a good ride
27:16for him mentally,
27:17that is,
27:18compared to what
27:18we saw a couple
27:19weeks ago
27:19with him having
27:20food poisoning
27:21pulling off
27:21the racetrack
27:22and stuff.
27:22You've got to
27:23at least back up
27:23another 1-1
27:24with at least
27:25the top five
27:25because that's
27:25the best you can
27:26do today.
27:27Yeah,
27:28just looking for
27:28fifth with Moseman
27:29here on the 93
27:30right in front of him.
27:32Told you Moseman's
27:33story several times.
27:34Broken neck
27:35and several concussions
27:36led him to think
27:38that his racing days
27:39were over.
27:40Neck healed up.
27:41The doctor said,
27:41you're not any more
27:42likely to have a problem
27:43than anyone who had not
27:44broken their neck.
27:45No long-term complications,
27:46so he decided
27:47to give this one more shot.
27:48And,
27:49because he's always
27:50been fast,
27:51he got a shot
27:52with this Yamaha team,
27:54so he's got the good
27:55equipment,
27:55the good squad,
27:56trying to make
27:57the most of it.
27:58Yeah,
27:59and you saw that line
27:59where we got the
28:01sky shot,
28:02the double.
28:03Let's see if Chance
28:04can bully himself
28:05up the inside.
28:06There you go.
28:07Move out my way.
28:07Move or be hit.
28:09Love it.
28:11So,
28:11fifth for Hymas,
28:12despite the bad start.
28:15Send it to Katie,
28:17see what the strategy
28:17is for the Honda crew.
28:19It's one of those
28:20strategies that is
28:21pretty funny.
28:22It says,
28:23stay loose and dig.
28:24And that is all
28:25the pit boards are saying,
28:26right now for Chance
28:27High Misses.
28:27Stay loose and dig.
28:28Well, Katie,
28:29I'll tell you who's
28:29staying loose,
28:30maybe a little too much.
28:31We saw Michael Moseman.
28:32I don't know if he saved
28:33that or not.
28:34That bike was full swap
28:36left to right.
28:36He's still there.
28:37He's still there.
28:38Man,
28:38that was a close one.
28:40So,
28:40that's definitely
28:40a loosey-goosey
28:41at that point.
28:42Yeah,
28:43but I can tell you
28:43one thing,
28:44he won't remember
28:45that happened
28:45until somebody brings it up.
28:47He's like,
28:47oh, yeah,
28:47almost died out there,
28:48but he's going to
28:49continue racing forward.
28:50That's what I love
28:51about all these
28:51athletes, man,
28:52things.
28:52They almost just
28:53died a corner before,
28:54but they forget about
28:56a corner later
28:57until somebody brings it up.
28:59Yeah,
29:00let's see this again.
29:02Oh,
29:02Julian Bomer
29:03having his problems
29:04in this moto.
29:05We caught it.
29:06Give it the replay
29:07at the top of the screen.
29:09Julian going down.
29:10He starts,
29:11so there's Rutz right there,
29:12and he starts losing
29:13the front end
29:13going off that little hump
29:14and, yeah,
29:15just lost it
29:16and just slid
29:17all the way down the hill.
29:17And that's what I'm saying
29:18on camera.
29:19You can't tell
29:19how steep these hills are,
29:20but once you start
29:21losing the front end,
29:22it's easy to just
29:23fall over
29:23as we watch Joe
29:24do the same thing
29:25early in the day.
29:25So, yeah,
29:28Shimoda fell
29:28at the bottom
29:29of that hill
29:29where you just saw
29:30Hymas in qualifying.
29:33So, Hymas,
29:34fifth,
29:36three-second gap
29:37to be out.
29:37Let's see if he can
29:38make one more run.
29:40Yeah,
29:40I think he's
29:41a little closer to Tom
29:42than that.
29:44Let's see if he can
29:44get around these lappers
29:45that you saw
29:46with Tom
29:46just popped out
29:47of that screen.
29:47So,
29:48Chance has some
29:48pretty good lines.
29:49You can see how
29:50patient he is
29:50and the lap before
29:51I was saying
29:52with Michael
29:53how he was so far
29:54on the outside
29:55and he had to cut back
29:56where I like the line
29:57that Chance is doing.
29:58He's just taking
29:58his time being slow,
29:59but it sets him up
30:00better for this next corner,
30:01which sets him up
30:02better for this whole
30:03out,
30:03this whole section.
30:04So,
30:05he's got a toe in
30:06on Tom Pial.
30:09Yeah,
30:09that's pretty close now.
30:10Yeah.
30:10Yep.
30:12Man,
30:13you talked so much,
30:14especially this year,
30:14about the difference
30:15having that toe,
30:16seeing the guy,
30:17and what a difference
30:17that makes.
30:18No,
30:18I mean,
30:18it really is.
30:19It's like a person
30:20training.
30:21You know,
30:22your goal,
30:23I want to lose weight.
30:23Well,
30:24you've got to have
30:24some kind of goal
30:25to do it
30:25or any kind of goal
30:26in life,
30:26and I think
30:27with these riders,
30:28you know,
30:28of course,
30:28they're all fast,
30:29but you've got to
30:30have a toe,
30:31and especially when
30:31you get close to
30:32somebody,
30:32you know when
30:33they're braking,
30:34so you can just
30:34stay on that
30:35little bit of,
30:35you know,
30:36stay on the throttle
30:37a little bit harder.
30:37That's why it's a lot
30:38easier to catch a guy
30:39compared to passing him.
30:41I think if he stays
30:42a little bit closer,
30:42he might have a shot
30:43against Tom.
30:45And that could put
30:46him in perhaps
30:48overall territory
30:49depending on how
30:50the second moto breaks.
30:51A five would make
30:53it tough.
30:54This would be huge
30:56potentially by the end
30:57of the day.
30:57The difference between
30:57this fourth and fifth.
30:58Who's going to get it?
30:59Vial versus Himes.
31:01Yeah,
31:01I mean,
31:02I think for overall,
31:03it's, you know,
31:04Hayden,
31:04the way how strong
31:05he's been all year long,
31:07you're probably going
31:07to have to be closer
31:08to Levi,
31:09that second,
31:09third place,
31:10fourth place,
31:11in case something happens,
31:12yeah,
31:12it puts you in
31:12overall situation.
31:13But I think what it does
31:15is just lets everybody
31:17know Chance is here,
31:18like his fitness is there.
31:20He's able to not
31:20get the best star.
31:22He's going to climb
31:22his way back up
31:23to, you know,
31:24the top five.
31:25And I think that just
31:26more sends a message
31:27to him,
31:28but also even Hayden Deegan.
31:30You know,
31:30you're not going to have
31:30a situation where Chance
31:31doesn't get a start.
31:33Okay,
31:33he doesn't get a start.
31:33He's out.
31:34No big deal.
31:35Kid's starting to find
31:36his confidence.
31:37And the only way he does
31:38that by that one-one
31:39last weekend allows him
31:40to be able to move
31:40his way up front.
31:42I think this is going to
31:42continue to help him
31:43throughout the rest of this year.
31:45Yeah,
31:46no doubt.
31:46I didn't want to say it,
31:47but yes,
31:47to turn a fourth or fifth
31:49in the overall with Deegan,
31:49they're going to need
31:50some help,
31:50some luck,
31:51in the second moto.
31:53Oh,
31:54Seth Hamaker,
31:55hang on to that thing.
31:56This would be big
31:57if he can,
31:57he almost crashed there,
31:58if he can keep it
31:59on two wheels
31:59and bring it to the end,
32:01this will actually
32:01be the first ever
32:02moto podium
32:04for Seth Hamaker
32:05in pro motocross.
32:06His career best
32:07is a fourth
32:08right here at High Point
32:10about two years ago.
32:11Yeah,
32:12that's crazy
32:13to think how good
32:14Seth has been,
32:15but that's really
32:15what injuries are.
32:17And, you know,
32:17if his shoulder's
32:18starting to bottom,
32:18I can tell you one thing,
32:19those rollers
32:20that he came down
32:21hitting at,
32:21that is going to bother
32:22him quite a bit.
32:24Not only with that,
32:24but these downhills.
32:26A lot of these corners,
32:27there's like you're
32:27slamming down
32:28and then you have
32:29an instant stop.
32:30So, Seth is doing
32:32a good job.
32:32If he can finish
32:33with his podium
32:33with his teammate,
32:34it'd be a great ride.
32:37And the work he has
32:38put in with the
32:39Lawrences there
32:40at their compound,
32:41the Dog Pound,
32:42has really paid off.
32:44A lot of work
32:45on riding technique
32:46and they tell me
32:47that Seth will
32:48land on Sundays
32:49after Supercross
32:50from the airport,
32:51go to the track,
32:52get on a pit bike.
32:53Not a full practice
32:54day on the real bike,
32:55but just work on drills,
32:56work on figure eights,
32:57work on turns
32:58to really get
32:59that riding technique
33:00to set in on a Sunday
33:01before going back
33:02to the regular
33:03Monday through Thursday
33:04schedule.
33:05So, he's doing
33:05everything he can
33:06to accelerate
33:07the learning curve.
33:08But we've seen
33:09big advancements
33:10this year.
33:11Yeah, no, I agree.
33:12And Seth looks like
33:13that type of guy.
33:14Like, when you see
33:14certain riders,
33:15you just know
33:16they have that work ethic.
33:18And then I think
33:18the way he rides,
33:20he looks like a goddess.
33:21He's never going to give up.
33:22Kind of like Tom Masterpool,
33:23I like to say.
33:24Certain guys are just
33:25dogs out there.
33:26When you look at Seth,
33:27all the injuries
33:27to bounce back,
33:29he's got the heart.
33:30He's got to find
33:31that health
33:32and that belief
33:33and he'll be fine.
33:33But the one guy
33:34who doesn't have
33:34any problems
33:35with any of that
33:36is Hayden Deegan, man.
33:37I'm telling you right now,
33:38he's going to be
33:39just as fresh
33:39for that second moto
33:40as he was this first one
33:42because he's been
33:43saving some energy
33:44all race long.
33:45Love it.
33:46Check in again
33:47with the 2-2.
33:49Jalik Swole
33:50coming back
33:50from the Achilles injury.
33:53That's pretty darn fast.
33:54I think that happened
33:55in November
33:56if I remember right.
33:58So here we are,
34:00just a little over
34:00six months
34:01and back on the racetrack
34:03on the Triumph.
34:04And he admitted
34:06to me yesterday,
34:07yeah, maybe the cardio
34:07fitness is not quite there.
34:08It's only been about
34:09two and a half weeks
34:10on the bike,
34:10but hey,
34:11racing is trading
34:12in its own way.
34:13No, absolutely.
34:14I think Jalik's doing
34:14a great job out here.
34:15I mean,
34:16this is going to be
34:16a good job
34:18just finishing these motos.
34:20And like he said,
34:20he wanted,
34:21maybe shouldn't be
34:22dancing on that thing,
34:23but he put his
34:23dance shoes on today.
34:24So if he can finish
34:25top 15,
34:26the first ride,
34:27I'm sure everybody
34:27had the Triumph
34:28to be happy.
34:29And his speed is there.
34:31To come back,
34:31he was, you know,
34:32top six in qualifying.
34:34So he has the speed.
34:35This is expected
34:36with the race fitness.
34:38Back to the leader,
34:39Hayden Deegan.
34:40Final lap now.
34:42And looking to make it
34:43six moto wins.
34:46Sorry,
34:47five moto wins
34:47in,
34:49do my math right here.
34:50Seven starts.
34:51Yes,
34:52that would be correct.
34:53Seventh moto of the year.
34:54And this one,
34:56probably the easiest
34:57so far this season.
34:58Yeah,
34:58you got my math skills
34:59going on.
35:00Five out of four?
35:01Five out of four people
35:02struggling with math.
35:03All right,
35:03I'm going to the five.
35:04Yeah,
35:05no,
35:05it's all good.
35:06Just bad influences
35:07off you.
35:08You get that from me.
35:10Contagious here.
35:11Well,
35:11hey,
35:11math is easy.
35:13Just look at the gap
35:14he has.
35:15He is on cruise control
35:16on this final lap.
35:18No,
35:18he's on cruise control
35:19and still,
35:19say,
35:20great route for him
35:21but also a great route
35:22for Levi.
35:23I think this is going
35:24to help Levi.
35:25Again,
35:26Hayden Deegan's
35:26resting up.
35:27He'll be ready
35:28for that second moto.
35:29It's been a fun moto
35:29for him,
35:30I can tell you that much.
35:30Just able to tuck it
35:33into that run
35:33at the bottom of the hill.
35:35Now headed for daylight.
35:36One turn remains.
35:39And the fans salute him
35:40at the top.
35:43Hayden Deegan wins moto one
35:45at high point.
35:47Battle still going.
35:48Shimoda and Marchbanks.
35:51Sixth place.
35:52I've been seeing this
35:52all year long for Joe.
35:54Good job to be able to catch Garrett
35:56because he wasn't even
35:56close to him.
35:58Now let's see what happens.
35:59Garrett's probably going
36:00to try to block this inside
36:01and Joe might have
36:02an opportunity.
36:03If he gets a run
36:03on the outside,
36:04he should be able
36:05to get around him.
36:06Here it is,
36:06James.
36:07Yeah,
36:08Joe has this
36:08because he's got to put him
36:09on the inside
36:09in the next one.
36:10Nice move by Joe.
36:11Wow,
36:12what a charge.
36:14And Shimoda
36:14as Marchbanks
36:16rushes that last corner
36:17to get him back.
36:17Can't do it
36:18and Shimoda's going to
36:19rip sixth place away
36:21with two turns to go.
36:23And Garrett's trying
36:23to rip them goggles off.
36:24I don't think he was
36:25too happy,
36:26but he was stuck
36:27in a weird spot.
36:28He didn't have no choice.
36:29If he went outside,
36:30he was going to get passed,
36:30but yeah,
36:32did his best.
36:33And so did this guy,
36:34Hayden Deegan,
36:35another win,
36:37reestablishing himself
36:38after the second
36:39last weekend.
36:41Some bike problems,
36:42some tip overs,
36:43Hyman's got the better
36:43of him,
36:44and he quickly resets
36:46the order right here.
36:48And you know
36:48there's plenty of Deegan
36:49fans pumped up on that,
36:51and they're going to
36:51head to the podium.
