00:00But we know the story with Deegan, when he wins, he puts a little extra flare on it and
00:04that flares up other riders and that includes Hymus, the fast qualifier, by a good gap in
00:11the second session today.
00:13Second career fast qualifier.
00:14He's also very good at this track.
00:15He was faster last year and so many other riders that want to beat Deegan as well.
00:21Here's what they need to do to do that.
00:23It's time for the KTM key to the moto.
00:25James?
00:26Statement day.
00:27Statement day for guys like Chance Hymus.
00:30Even Hayden Deegan, he wants to send that statement to those guys, let them know he's
00:33the best.
00:34But overall, it's a statement for get out there and do some work and you hear them in
00:37their voice.
00:38They want it.
00:39Oh, yeah.
00:40Hymus was not shy about how badly he wants to win this championship.
00:44See some of the names of just a few of the contenders in the always dynamic 250 field.
00:51Which rider is going to hit?
00:53Which rider is going to have the feeling that he wants?
00:56It's a bit of a guessing game as we get set for round one.
00:59Revs are up.
01:00Gates down.
01:01Hymus leads him into the first turn.
01:08He's got a bunch of the pro circuit Kawasaki's.
01:11Also, oh, look at that power run around the outside is that master pool.
01:17Ty master pool to the lead over Hymus.
01:20What a slingshot move right there.
01:22You knew he had that plan to hop over that double.
01:25Great start by Ty master pool.
01:26A lot different than when he came out here with a couple of days last year on that bike.
01:30Had a whole year under his belt.
01:31Great start.
01:32Julian Beaumier was third but tiptoeing through that corner on the KTM.
01:37Hymus battling master pool for the lead now.
01:41They put a little bit of water down but I don't think it's going to be too wet for these
01:43guys.
01:44I like what I see from chance Hymus.
01:46He got past in the beginning but ultra aggressive.
01:48He knows he's out front.
01:49He can get this thing, J. We have not seen Hymus since the San Diego supercross in January
01:55when he broke some fingers preparing for this.
01:58Inside line.
01:59Hymus almost had it.
02:00That almost worked out.
02:01Ty did a great job of chopping that off but still being aggressive in the beginning is
02:07something we normally don't see with the number 10.
02:12Here we go.
02:13Back uphill.
02:14Hymus has it now.
02:18Side by side to the top.
02:24Master pool is stingy.
02:26Very stingy.
02:27They cleaned up this section early in practice.
02:28There was a lot of ruts there.
02:30Nice pass by chance.
02:31See how aggressive he is.
02:32He wants to be out front.
02:33Clear vision.
02:34He knows he has to speed.
02:35Now he's at exactly where he needs to be at.
02:38Master pool right back at Hymus now.
02:43They put a gap on Beaumier, shimoda and Seth Hammacher fifth, J.T.
02:48Chance Hymus told us this was coming.
02:50We can go back all the way to February.
02:53We were asking about the eastern division and all he wanted to talk about was the pro
02:58motocross opener in the upcoming summer.
03:01So he has been thinking about this, training for this and worried about this very event
03:05for going on three months.
03:06Now is his opportunity and so far, Jason, he is making the most of it.
03:10Thanks, J.T.
03:11That has been making me wonder, James.
03:13I want your take on this.
03:14When you put all the eggs in the basket, when you race all of supercross saying just wait
03:18until we get to motocross, just wait, that pressure, are you putting pressure on yourself
03:23to do that?
03:24Sometimes, but if you really believe, and I think Chance does at this point, he knows
03:28he has the speed.
03:29You go back to last year at Unadilla, he did the same thing.
03:32He got out front and made a lot of passes on these guys.
03:35He knows he has the speed.
03:37Supercross championship was lost.
03:38So now he has an opportunity to do it.
03:40I think for me, he looks complete on the motorcycle.
03:43A lot more confident than he did last year.
03:45So, yeah, a lot of pressure, but I think he's backing up so far now.
03:49No doubt.
03:50I think bowmare challenging masterpool for second.
03:53Deegan has made a move on hamaker up to fifth, and it's Hyman's teammate, Joe Shimoda, in
03:59fourth.
04:00Here's that battle.
04:01Bowmare looking to get masterpool.
04:04Yeah, Ty had a great opening lap now.
04:06Those guys are behind him and starting to close in.
04:08Good to see Julian up here close on winning that title during the supercross.
04:12I think both these guys had a big supercross year improvement, at least for Julian Watts.
04:17So for him, yeah, that shows a little confidence.
04:20That's how you go.
04:21You know he had to probably see what chance did that lap before and know he had an opportunity.
04:26He's going to the front as well.
04:28And there's Deegan.
04:29It's now past Shimoda as well.
04:31So they got hamaker and Shimoda.
04:34Yeah, Deegan went in that first corner.
04:36I thought he was in second.
04:37All the stuff that was starting to happen when you saw Ty get around chance, Deegan
04:41must have lost a couple of positions, but it's a long race.
04:44I'm sure Hayden's pretty confident.
04:46He's top five.
04:49That is one of the triumphs.
04:51Is that Forkner?
04:52Austin Forkner.
04:53Yeah.
04:54That is Austin Forkner on the factory triumph out already.
04:58Deegan closing a masterpool for third.
05:01Yeah, Hayden's in a good spot.
05:05As you mentioned, he made a couple more passes and stuff.
05:08As long as he can see chance and not pulling away too much, he'll be fine with this.
05:12But he's got to worry about that number 30 trying to get back around him as he's trying
05:16to get around Ty.
05:17Since Shimoda got aggressive with Deegan in a couple of supercross races, he's really
05:21sending it to get back around him.
05:24Heads up riding by Joe.
05:25He knew if he would have pushed that, he would have ran into Hayden.
05:27As you mentioned, Joe was one of the only guys really throwing it in on Deegan.
05:31Yeah, I talked to Joe in between the races.
05:33We went over there.
05:34Smooth.
05:35Nice save.
05:36But look at him.
05:38Just around the outside.
05:39No big deal.
05:40Sometimes those confidence, they wake you up a little bit.
05:43Well, Hayden Deegan, I agree with you.
05:46He's in a great spot here.
05:47You can't make mistakes like he just did.
05:49Let's be honest about that.
05:51But positioning hasn't been his strong suit.
05:53As long as he can look up and see chance time is somewhere in his periphery, that's going
05:58to give him confidence.
05:59Because remember last year, he didn't do his best work in any moto until the second half,
06:04especially the last three or four laps.
06:06He's got to manage the first half and take advantage in the second half.
06:10I think that's the game plan for Hayden Deegan.
06:13Yeah, absolutely.
06:14And when you talk about what happened last year, as we're about to watch the replay of
06:18Deegan, gets cross right here, then he hits that side of the crown molding as J.T. Would
06:23like to say.
06:24Feet comes off.
06:25Oh, well, feet was off.
06:26Let me just rail this berm on the outside.
06:28Make up some time.
06:29Do a little scrub right here.
06:30So no harm, no foul with that number one.
06:33Riding a watch right now is Boehmeyer, who is actually catching Hymus.
06:37Last time around, he was about six-tenths of a second faster than the leader.
06:41He's taken the gap from 1.9 to 1.3 seconds.
06:45Deegan resets after the battle with Shimoda and closes again on master pool.
06:51What I was saying about Hayden, because what we saw what he was able to do last year, a
06:55lot of his races came, his wins came from later in the moto.
06:58So all these guys remember that.
07:00So with Hayden, he knows he has the luxury of probably strongest guy in this field.
07:04At least he believes it.
07:05And he knows all the chances out front.
07:08He hasn't raced and he hasn't been up front for a long time.
07:11So a lot of that stuff, you start racing backwards.
07:13And I think a little bit, it's probably what you're starting to see with chance, why Julian
07:17is able to close in on him.
07:18It's like a burst of speed.
07:19You get out front and you're like, man, I'm winning this thing.
07:22You start racing behind you.
07:23And Hayden knows that as well, too.
07:26Bottom box is the leaders, Hymus and Boehmeyer.
07:30A lot of people wondering what would Boehmeyer have outdoors.
07:33The supercross skills and talent pretty obvious.
07:36Could he bring that level up in pro motocross?
07:40Looks like he is.
07:42Yeah, I expect Julian to have a great summer.
07:46He had a great supercross season.
07:48And just like chance Hymus, he's motivated to beat Hayden as well.
07:51He had some moments between him.
07:53They got into it together.
07:55So now new season, have another opportunity to start.
07:58Julian looking pretty good as well.
08:00And that's in that bottom box.
08:04He has Hymus in his sights.
08:06Up top, that's master pole and Deegan.
08:09There's master pole in the 26th second year with monster energy, pro circuit Kawasaki.
08:14But last year he got the call literally two days before the race.
08:17Joked this morning with me.
08:19He said, I got a little bit more preparation time this year than last year.
08:23He's like, I learned how to ship this motorcycle this year.
08:26But it's still a great start.
08:28And we saw what happened with Ty last year.
08:30He was a couple of those races.
08:32Hayden straight up and down.
08:34You know he's got some confidence.
08:36Bike looks pretty good.
08:38Great start to the year.
08:40Like you said, it's a lot better than last year.
08:42Looks like Hayden is going to try to go up the inside.
08:44Master pole looks over.
08:46Wants to cover it.
08:48Cannot.
08:50I thought he was going to shut down that door on Hayden.
08:52He's going to go up to the inside here.
08:54Yeah, but Hayden is going to slingshot.
08:56For Ty, you know Hayden is going to the front.
08:58Stick with him.
09:01Ty lost a toe to Julian as well.
09:03Probably got to switch that up a little bit.
09:05But as quickly as Hayden was there, he's gone.
09:07So a couple of things to watch now.
09:09Can Deegan bridge the gap to the lead duo.
09:11Hymus got the word.
09:13He has pulled back out.
09:15To the tune of about three and a half seconds.
09:17That's double what the lead was.
09:19A lap and a half ago.
09:21Send it back to J.T.
09:23You know what I love so much about Hayden, Deegan.
09:25Besides the fact that he's a great driver.
09:28You know what I love so much about Hayden, Deegan.
09:30Besides all the championships.
09:32And the incredible talent.
09:34It's overcoming adversity.
09:36We saw that big mistake.
09:38We saw the pressure from Joe Shimoda.
09:40It looked like he wanted to go backwards versus forwards.
09:42Fast forward two laps.
09:44He's not only disappeared from Shimoda.
09:46He's actually passed Masterpool.
09:48He's regained his confidence and pushed forward.
09:50He's closing down on the leaders.
09:52That is what Hayden Deegan has done so well over the course of his career.
09:54Nothing seems to faze him.
09:56As soon as it seems like someone has him on the ropes.
09:58He just regroups.
10:00Goes back and attacks towards the front.
10:02I couldn't agree with you, J.
10:04For sure.
10:06It definitely looks like that.
10:08I think a lot of guys.
10:10That's what makes Hayden so good.
10:12He does regroup.
10:14He does have that mentality.
10:16When things get down.
10:18It refocuses him.
10:20It's another opportunity to go out and show the world how good I am.
10:22The more people doubt.
10:25He's probably put in where it's not likely for him to win.
10:27This dude just rises up and gets it done.
10:29He's closing that gap a little bit.
10:31Earlier we saw Austin Forkner go out of this race.
10:33Let's send it to Haley with more on that.
10:35Yes.
10:37You can see his bike on the screen right now.
10:39That's Austin Forkner.
10:41He did exit the race course under his own power.
10:43He went down.
10:45He went to pick the bike back up.
10:47Another rider had collided with him.
10:49He said to me, I think I need stitches.
10:51He left the track under his own power.
10:53We actually gave him a lift over to Alpine stars.
10:55He's in there now with his wife.
10:57We wait to hear more.
10:59He's referring to his left hip area.
11:01Thank you, Haley.
11:03We'll give a look.
11:05He's got a little over an hour to be ready for moto 2.
11:07The same thing with the bike.
11:09Deegan, 6.3 seconds is the gap between he and the leader.
11:11Can he bridge it?
11:13Or is he going to make the statement that he was looking to make?
11:15It's going to be important for a chance to win.
11:17It's going to be important for a chance to win.
11:19It's going to be important for a chance to win.
11:22It's going to be important for a chance to keep this gap for these next few laps.
11:24He doesn't want it to shut down.
11:26Remember in the past, Hayden has been really strong at the end of the races.
11:28Chance hasn't been out here racing for a while.
11:30For him, we don't know how his fitness is and all that stuff.
11:32If he can keep this gap growing, at least in between him and Hayden,
11:34I think we'll have a chance to hold on to this thing.
11:48You can see the difference between riding styles to him and Hayden.
11:50Chance is very patient, just like his teammate, Jett Lawrence.
11:52Make sure he gets in the corners.
11:54Don't over-ride it.
11:56Hayden is just railing all this stuff.
11:58Battle here between the teammates.
12:00Hamaker on the left has caught master pool.
12:02Hamaker to the inside.
12:04Makes the pass on his teammate.
12:06Yeah, things are starting to happen pretty quick for Ty.
12:08He's got passed by Hayden.
12:10Now Joe.
12:12And now his teammate.
12:14And it's Seth.
12:16Seth is another rider who got a lot of confidence from that supercross season.
12:19Showed a lot for all of us.
12:21But mainly himself.
12:23His biggest thing is to stay healthy.
12:25I think he's looking pretty good.
12:27The bike looks pretty good.
12:29Let's see if he can continue to move forward.
12:31Get it rolling here.
12:33And now the first look at Tom Vielle.
12:35Who's in the battle now.
12:37On the orange number 16.
12:39This is fifth, sixth, seventh.
12:41Hamaker tips over.
12:43Come on, Seth.
12:45Easy to happen.
12:47With those braking bumps over those little rollers.
12:49They continue to get bigger and bigger.
12:51Sometimes you try to get in there.
12:53You're not able to hit the back brake.
12:55The tire is off the ground.
12:57You end up slamming into that corner and falling over.
12:59Easy mistake to happen.
13:01But definitely costly.
13:03We can look at this again with Seth.
13:05With the replay.
13:07Does a scrub.
13:09Closing that gap.
13:11He's got these braking bumps.
13:13Let's see if he gets a little deep in there.
13:16Tires wasn't on the ground.
13:18He wasn't able to slow down.
13:20Slams into that section.
13:22You can see how soft it is.
13:24Very easy mistake to happen.
13:26In the beginning part of the race.
13:28That's definitely costly.
13:30Hamaker had that heartbreaking championship loss in a battle
13:32with Vielle and RJ Hempshire two weeks ago.
13:34In Salt Lake City.
13:36Monster energy supercross.
13:38He was mad, sad, all of it.
13:40Saturday night, Sunday.
13:42Monday got back to the track.
13:44He used that energy to move forward
13:46and attack pro motocross.
13:48Right now he'll need to attack the 36 of Marchbanks.
13:50His teammate who is now ahead of him.
13:52Marchbanks has been quietly effective.
13:54Late in supercross.
13:56Good in qualifying.
13:58Riding well right now in seventh.
14:00He's been riding good all day long.
14:02Didn't get the greatest start.
14:04Garrett has been strong second year on this bike
14:06for full season.
14:08Moving into this thing.
14:10I think he'll continue to move his way up.
14:13Good to see Casey Cochran back.
14:15Battling with Hamaker.
14:17Cochran missed all of supercross with broken leg.
14:19There he is on the 40.
14:21The rock star.
14:23Hamaker around.
14:25You can see Seth in the middle part of that corner
14:27how he stood his motorcycle up.
14:29He came in there so fast.
14:31With these ruts, they're so deep.
14:33Because they're sticky.
14:35Almost like he grabs those guys.
14:37Almost stops their momentum.
14:39He had that pass made.
14:41Starting to get these little L shapes
14:43in these berms.
14:45That's what's cool.
14:47The 250 class maybe not quite the level
14:49of height.
14:51As these legends in the 450 division.
14:53Oh, no.
14:55Hymus.
14:57Hymus is down.
14:59Who has gone by him?
15:01Both of them.
15:03Before that happened, that gap started
15:05coming down between him and Hayden.
15:07Hayden closed the thing down to four points
15:09in the second.
15:11Chance probably recognized that.
15:13Now it is bowmare against Deegan
15:15in pro motocross.
15:17We saw this several times in the stadiums.
15:19Hymus is not out of it as well.
15:21This should be a fantastic second half.
15:23Joe Shimoda, his teammates right behind
15:25him as well.
15:27Chance can regroup.
15:29Maybe this is a good thing for him.
15:31Take some of that pressure off.
15:33We saw Hayden was coming.
15:35Now he can follow and hang on.
15:37See if we have the replay
15:39of the Hymus crash
15:41that cost him the lead
15:43as bowmare
15:45holds Deegan.
15:51This is an impressive ride for bowmare.
15:53I think people were sleeping on his motocross skills.
15:59We have the Hymus.
16:01Is it in this shot here?
16:03Trying to find it.
16:05Same place we saw Seth go down.
16:07Get into that corner.
16:09Now he wanted to
16:11go to that inside rub.
16:13Deegan just got the lead.
16:15We were watching Hymus
16:17mistake by bowmare.
16:19Now Deegan is in the number one spot.
16:21Listen to the crowd.
16:23They love it.
16:25We love it.
16:27Everybody loves it.
16:29Still, that's easy.
16:31Hayden is revving
16:33that motorcycle behind you.
16:35As loud as that bike is,
16:37seems like he's there.
16:39One thing they can't do
16:41is allow Hayden to get away.
16:43If they want a chance,
16:45if I'm chance Hymus,
16:47I need to get around Julian.
16:49Shimoda on the move.
16:51He has caught Hymus.
16:53Second, third, fourth.
16:55Send it to J.T.
16:57This is the type of ride
16:59we've been looking for.
17:01Don't forget, he was your 2024
17:03pro motocross rookie of the year.
17:05There were flashes of brilliance,
17:07but it was the consistency
17:09and the ability to run at the very front.
17:11The same type of form he had
17:13in supercross we had not seen
17:15in motocross until now.
17:17The question will be, is this a racetrack
17:19type thing? Don't remember.
17:21It's going to be this desert-type soil.
17:23You can see how dry it is
17:25all around.
17:27Surely he feels comfortable here.
17:29In any case,
17:31this is a huge step forward
17:33by any accountant.
17:35I agree with you, J.T.
17:37The fastest rider on the racetrack
17:39is at number 30.
17:41Joe Shimoda, actually,
17:43was Garrett Marchbank at a 2.21.2.
17:45Joe at a 2.21.6.
17:47Hayden ran a 2.23.2.
17:49Joe is getting caught up behind his teammate.
17:51He's going to slow that gap down.
17:53You can see Hayden has three seconds
17:55over Julian.
17:57It's important for both those guys
17:59to get around and not race each other
18:01and slow their pace down.
18:03Halfway through, reminder, Monster Energy
18:05available now at Stater Brothers.
18:07I don't know what direction
18:09this battle for second is going to go.
18:11Beaumair was starting to stretch it.
18:13Hymus was under pressure.
18:15Now Hymus putting it back together.
18:17Oh, hard landing
18:19for the 23.
18:21A little O.J. right there.
18:23Overjumped it.
18:25As for Hymus,
18:27just mentally, you say you got the chip
18:29on your shoulder. You show it in qualifying.
18:31You have the lead. You pull it back away from Masterpool.
18:33You got it under control.
18:35How do you keep the frustration at bay
18:37and focus back on this after the mistake?
18:39I think for him, they knew
18:41Hayden was eventually going to come.
18:43I don't think Chance felt like he was
18:45going to be able to all of a sudden
18:47beat these guys by 30 seconds, but what Chance can
18:49do, and I think it would give him even more confidence,
18:51is to be able to get around Julian
18:53and keep Hayden close, maybe even close down.
18:55Looks like he's starting to do that.
18:57He should have the pass right here down the inside.
18:59If he can somehow
19:01close that gap on Hayden, better close it
19:03off on Julian.
19:05Nice move.
19:07Juju fighting back
19:09side by side.
19:11Got caught that rut.
19:13Wheel to wheel and Hymus
19:15into second.
19:17Nice move. I thought about him pulling
19:19that tear off. He wasn't so focused on getting
19:21on the ground. Julian almost got him back.
19:23So for Chance, nice
19:25recovery. Not where he wants to be.
19:27He's just got to keep that gap for Hayden
19:29not growing anymore. It's already to five seconds,
19:31but nonetheless, a couple mistakes.
19:33He's still right there, and Joe's right behind
19:35both these guys.
19:39Oh, they're riding so hard
19:41right now in this battle.
19:43But yeah, Boehmeyer definitely
19:45proving, as J2 is saying, he belongs
19:47at the sharp end. Because last
19:49year as a rookie, he was good. He was
19:516th, 7th, 8th, a lot. But now
19:53fighting for podium real estate with
19:55Shimoda. We saw
19:57Julian overjump that tabletop, and I noticed
19:59his body language almost like maybe
20:01hurt something because I could see him
20:03being a little cautious on some of these hard
20:05landings. As you can see, he's not scrubbing his heart.
20:07He doesn't watch out the number 30.
20:09He's going to go around just like that.
20:11See his body language change
20:13a little bit, and it changed after he overjumped
20:15that tabletop. So keep an eye on that
20:17as we go. Oh, interesting. Yes, now
20:19pushed back to 4th.
20:21Gap to Deegan is
20:236.7 seconds now.
20:25Masterpool is
20:27still 5th, and VL, Marchbanks,
20:29Hamacher, Cochran, Moseman
20:31in the top 10.
20:33Where is Levi Kitchen
20:35in this moto? Expected to be one of the contenders.
20:37Can't even find
20:39him.
20:41Yeah, he's down in 14th.
20:4314th place. Yeah, 14th
20:45and
20:47not what you'd expect. No, definitely not.
20:49I don't know if he, he must have went down because I
20:51believe the way he was riding early, he's got
20:53some speed, so something
20:55must be going on with Levi. He's running
20:57223, which is close to the fastest lap
20:59of the race for him.
21:01Masterpool
21:03and VL fighting
21:05for top 5.
21:07And this is just an indicator of how
21:09deep this 250 field is.
21:11Obviously VL,
21:14one-time world champ, two-time supercross champ
21:16is a world-class rider.
21:18Right now just 5th, though.
21:24And Masterpool starting
21:26to put it back together.
21:28Yeah, it was a tough couple of laps there
21:30for Ty. He got passed by him.
21:32In this class, it just seems like
21:34unlike the 450 class, when things
21:36separate, you get a little gap.
21:38In this one, it's just another guy, another
21:40guy, so things aren't going right.
21:42Well,
21:44it's the way this battle has gone with
21:46these two.
21:48Joe's ahead
21:50both. What?
21:52Three times that's changed.
21:54We're going to check in with the fly racing athletes.
21:56The running order is Heimis
21:58third, wearing the fly gear, then Ryder,
22:00DeFrancisco, 16th, Parker, Ross,
22:02now on the Barracks, Toyota,
22:04Redlands, the Omaha team is 18th,
22:06Dylan Schwartz, his teammate, 32nd.
22:08That's just a sampling of the riders wearing the gear.
22:10So Shimoda from fourth
22:12to second.
22:14Yeah, when I saw Joe in between
22:16practice, he said he was ready.
22:18He said he felt good on there and on the
22:20motorcycle. Probably the best
22:22I've seen Joe look on the Honda
22:24since he's been on this motorcycle, so good
22:26showing for him. Made a few passes.
22:28Only problem is he's almost nine seconds
22:30behind Hayden, but
22:32keep that gap. Joe looks good.
22:34And Joe's starting to become
22:36an early season guy after winning the
22:38Adelheim one super cross-opener.
22:40Now aiming for second in this moto.
22:42It's all tightening up now. You've got Heimis
22:44versus Beaumare, and then
22:46the Vial and Masterpool battle.
22:48It's a four-rider
22:50fight.
22:52I don't know what's going on with this racetrack. It seems like
22:54these guys can lose a lot of time
22:56really quick, because we just saw Joe get around
22:58a chance. He was right in front of him,
23:00and now, you know, they're about two seconds behind him,
23:02almost three seconds in a few corners, so
23:04it must be something when they get stuck or
23:06maybe hit these berms
23:08and lose a lot of time, because it didn't seem like
23:10Hayden was ten seconds faster in the last
23:12two laps, but he's almost ten seconds
23:14faster since he made that pass.
23:16See what Joe can do. Well, just
23:18think of this battle with Beaumare and Heimis.
23:20Every time you think one rider is
23:22faster than the other, it flips.
23:24And then Shimoda passes to both
23:26Vial and Masterpool weren't
23:28even in the picture, and now they certainly are.
23:30Yeah, I think that comes down to
23:32is when they get close, they get aggressive,
23:34and then they slam into the corners. I mean, we saw
23:36that's how Chance went down, that's how Seth went down.
23:38Just running hard,
23:40coming into these corners, you slam into it
23:42as we're watching Julian, about to get passed by
23:44his teammate almost, so
23:46it's got to be something, being very patient
23:48in these long runs.
23:50Yes, battle of the Red Bull K-10s.
23:52Nice line there by Vial.
23:54A little sneaky line, love that.
23:56And as the day goes on, that line's going to
23:58come into form, at least. It'd be a lot
24:00smoother, a lot less energy for him.
24:02Look at those hooks
24:04coming out.
24:06What makes those ruts shape like that, that hook shape,
24:08instead of a smooth arc?
24:10Well, I think a lot of it comes like
24:12these little rollers going into the corners,
24:14so it almost throws the bike into it,
24:16and he's got to slam into it,
24:18and they dug these corners deep, so now
24:20the track's starting to dry out, so I think these ruts
24:22are formed from earlier, but those little bumps,
24:24those little humps going onto
24:26those insides throws the bike off, and
24:28they create these ruts.
24:30Creating speed
24:32is Vial.
24:34As you watch the leader, Deegan, in the bottom
24:36box, Vial has taken fourth
24:38from Beaumere.
24:40Yeah, Hayden's, he's found his
24:42rhythm now. You can see him opening up all these
24:44corners, and what you will see with Hayden
24:46is that those, all the
24:48opportunities where we saw Seth go down
24:50and his mistakes, he'll go a little bit slower
24:52in that, so he doesn't lose that time and take
24:54some of that risk away, because he has a clean
24:56racetrack, because he has ten seconds.
24:58Now he can play with the game and
25:00be a little bit smoother on his racetrack. He looks great.
25:05Going inside right here. I like that inside
25:07line.
25:09To see someone like Vial,
25:11he really wasn't a contender at the beginning
25:13of this race. Now he's putting it together in fourth.
25:15First moto of the year
25:17for some riders. Is there a bit of a
25:19acclimation process?
25:21Feeling things out more
25:23than you would at mid-season?
25:25Well, I mean, I think for a guy like
25:27Tom Vial, I mean, if he could get up on the podium,
25:29that's almost as good as a win.
25:31At this point, he wasn't even close
25:33to Hayden as far as Hayden's out front.
25:35I would say the same thing with Joe.
25:37You know, even though Hayden was right there, Joe
25:39second place, good. Where you start
25:41to see it, it's guys like Julian,
25:43like, you know, hey, supercross season,
25:45look at Garrett coming up on these guys.
25:47Tom Masterpool, these are the guys that
25:49maybe are starting to feel that thing out,
25:51and as the season goes on, they'll be a little bit stronger, but
25:53things here at the racetrack
25:55are starting to happen
25:57fast for him. As quickly as that is,
25:59he's back up on
26:01Tom Vial right there.
26:03It could go any number of ways.
26:05Beaumere, Masterpool, Marchbanks,
26:075th, 6th, 7th.
26:11Marchbanks has improved massively this year,
26:13now working with Brock Tickle,
26:15former racer, works in
26:17test riding for Kawasaki, but is now
26:19the coach for Marchbanks, and they've made
26:21gains.
26:23I thought I saw a shot.
26:25Something happened to Hayden.
26:27Another guy,
26:29maybe another Yamaha. I thought somebody stole the motorcycle.
26:31Kind of cheating on the screen
26:33right here.
26:35The lap times will tell us in a moment
26:37as Marchbanks attacks Masterpool.
26:41I know it was a lap, Ryder.
26:43Hayden still laying the wood to these guys.
26:45Long way around
26:47for the 36 of Marchbanks.
26:49Ryder out of Utah.
26:51Right there
26:53with Masterpool.
26:55Even if Garrett just stays
26:57in that same spot, they came back to the
26:59next lap, he's going to end up passing Ty
27:01because of that line right there.
27:03A lot of these ruts on the inside,
27:05they get stuck in it, so if you can slingshot
27:07around the outside and get next to the guy,
27:09you'll make that pass.
27:17Oh, here it is.
27:19Almost got to the inside.
27:21Not quite enough.
27:23Is that Hymus just ahead?
27:25Yeah, chances right ahead.
27:27Maybe this is going to help Chance.
27:29He doesn't have that pressure.
27:31He can try to focus back in on Joe,
27:33which is about five seconds up in front of him.
27:35Back to the
27:37Kawasaki's.
27:43Haven't seen many people go around this outside.
27:45There he goes.
27:47On the inside
27:49now is March Banks.
27:51Yeah, he's got to get in that corner pretty good.
27:53As you can see, just a chance
27:55that slingshot Ty was able to have.
27:57Garrett looks good right there.
27:59They still got Tom right in front of him.
28:03I think he's going to make the pass here.
28:05Here it is in these rollers.
28:07And Ryder,
28:09they call the man-child, big man out of Utah
28:11makes the move.
28:13Masterpool, not enough on the inside.
28:15Yeah, this is what I like about this racetrack.
28:17Once these guys do have an inside
28:19and outside, a lot of times the inside
28:21is the shorter way, but if you don't get that run out
28:23or you make one mistake, the guy on the outside
28:25is going to slingshot around you.
28:27We saw Garrett running these outsides
28:29in a lot of these corners.
28:31It's a long way around, but it's also smoother
28:33as well.
28:35How far can March Banks go
28:37as Boehmeyer right in front of him?
28:39This is great how close
28:41this field is.
28:43He's ten seconds up the road,
28:45but Shimoda has a gap,
28:47and then behind him,
28:49it's still tight.
28:51Yeah, so Tom must have got around
28:53Julian as well.
28:55Maybe they were going back and forth.
28:57Both of them look kind of the same.
28:59They're all within a few seconds
29:01of each other.
29:03So as quickly as Julian was there,
29:05he's not in that picture.
29:07Yeah, that's what this 250 class
29:09is known for.
29:11Much smaller margins,
29:13and it is proving it right now.
29:17Still a good showing for a tie.
29:19First moto, a lot of things are starting to happen.
29:21I know he was leading
29:23at one point, but still
29:2530 minutes, almost 30 minutes into it,
29:27the first moto of the season.
29:29You've got to be happy that he's looking
29:31still as aggressive as he is,
29:33and if I'm Garrett, March Banks, I feel like
29:35if I just get a better start,
29:37I can run with these guys.
29:39The problem is, that has been
29:41a big if for Garrett for a long time.
29:43One of the biggest riders in this class
29:45physically.
29:47There's Deegan.
29:49Well, there weren't many questions coming
29:51into the year, but then Hymus raised one
29:53with the great qualifying time and
29:55that early lead, but no problems for Deegan now.
29:57Hymus crashed while leading,
29:59and Hayden has been in control since.
30:01Take an inside look
30:03at Yamaha Racing's factory supported
30:05team after every race.
30:07It's on the Yamaha Motor USA
30:09YouTube channel.
30:11That's beyond the gate. Deegan and his
30:13teammates.
30:15And the story will remain much the same.
30:17You see Hayden hop over that little
30:19bump right there. That's the cool stuff.
30:21When you're out front, you can do those little things, and that's
30:23saving a lot of energy, but that's what I love
30:25about all these kids out here, especially
30:27Hayden. Making a jump
30:29into another jump, missing his bumps,
30:31especially if you get it right. You can just
30:33glide around this racetrack.
30:35Got to give Joe credit.
30:37Joe's kept that gap
30:39to the same, actually closed it down a little bit,
30:41so confidence booster for
30:43him.
30:48Deegan looking to put the finishing touches
30:50on it.
30:53And the Super Motocross playoffs
30:55return September 6th.
30:57So get your tickets to history
30:59at supermotocross.com.
31:03We've been talking so much about the
31:05anticipation for this pro motocross opener,
31:07but you'll get to
31:09see that atmosphere again
31:11when the playoffs begin in September.
31:15Deegan has fans everywhere we go, but
31:17we can't stress enough that this is a
31:19true Southern Californian.
31:22I would think most of the people on the fence
31:24are watching him ride when he was younger.
31:26It's a public track.
31:29Two to go
31:31for Deegs.
31:33As I was saying earlier, because he's out front,
31:35you notice how patient he was getting into
31:37the section where we saw those guys making mistakes,
31:39not slamming into him because he doesn't have anybody
31:41behind him. It takes out the risk
31:43and maybe it's not as quick,
31:45but it's more likely he can continue
31:47to do that and keep that gap the same.
31:53He's still ripping the corners.
31:55There's no doubt about that.
31:57It's not over.
32:03Yeah, it's the game of that
32:05cat and mouse a little bit.
32:07One mistake here, Julian makes a mistake.
32:09I like that line from Garrett because it opens
32:11his next corner up, so he keeps
32:13his momentum going. He's going to go down
32:15the inside, just show him that you're here.
32:20And that's how tough this field is.
32:22Bomer has ridden a great race,
32:24but he might not even be top five
32:26when it's over.
32:28Marchbanks loves this outside.
32:30Yeah.
32:36Just listening to these motorcycles
32:38just grabbing it.
32:44Can Marchbanks get there?
32:46It's like certain parts of the racetrack
32:48he closes in on them, but
32:50Julian's doing a great job at just keeping it going.
32:52I think each one of these guys,
32:54they have their section, and it really just comes down
32:56to whether they get greased that corner or not.
32:58And we see
33:00corners like this, if you don't get it right,
33:02you drop down in this, you get stuffed in this corner,
33:04now you lose all that time going
33:06up the hill as we just saw what happened with Garrett.
33:08So as quickly as he makes it up,
33:10he just loses it right there.
33:12You know what's going to happen?
33:14He said, watch, this could happen, and that's exactly
33:16what happened.
33:18I know how I would feel at this time in a moto,
33:20and I'm a little tired, so it's likely
33:22I'm going to make a few mistakes.
33:24Okay.
33:26That might be it for this battle.
33:28Lap and a half to go. Can Marchbanks get to Beaumair?
33:30It has been hot and heavy toward the front.
33:32It's settled down now
33:34as Deegan looks to bring it home.
33:38So will it be the
33:40Brat summer where we see not only the
33:42riding, but also some of the talk
33:44on the podium from Deegan
33:46or not?
33:48Especially with Hynes leading and Deegan
33:50it appears
33:52to get super aggressive,
33:54super aggro, just taking the
33:56white flag there.
33:58A lot of times you would think he's just out there
34:00whipping it, and he is, but
34:02I remember being in those spots,
34:04doing the whips and stuff, it actually keeps you loose.
34:06You know, really, like, just having a little bit
34:08of fun. Now he's able to
34:10switch up some lines, and he's in recovery
34:12mode right now. Yeah, he's throwing the whips,
34:14he's out there still running at pace, but he's getting
34:16his body ready for that second moto.
34:18He's got about six and a half seconds over Joe.
34:20Feels like he's got this thing if he just stays up.
34:24And looking for his third consecutive
34:26win at this track, his home track.
34:28Third consecutive moto win it would be.
34:32Yeah, you're winning. Yeah, we get it.
34:34Just letting them know he's winning,
34:36that's all.
34:38That could be the Brat summer here
34:40for Danger Boy, and
34:42this was
34:44the danger for everyone else
34:46that had the chance to make the statement,
34:49but he's got a big lead now.
34:51Yeah, like I said in the beginning part,
34:53it's statement day, and yeah, he's
34:55making one, too. It's a statement.
34:57Hayden wanted to make it, too,
34:59and he did, but still, chance high miss
35:01Joe Shimoda. I'd say this is a good ride
35:03for both those guys, especially Joe
35:05coming up through the pack, closing that gap
35:07down a little bit. One of the guys,
35:09we talked about a lot of guys, we know
35:11a lot of guys. We didn't talk about Joe,
35:13so good to see that.
35:15What can you say about this kid?
35:17All the pressure coming into this, hometown race,
35:19everybody knew they're after him.
35:21Chance goes in. He was the fastest.
35:23Hayden said, I need a clean lap.
35:25Well, he's got a clean lap now. He's clean
35:27out front. You mentioned pressure.
35:29Deegan is so self-confident,
35:31it would appear. You wouldn't think he feels
35:33that, but everybody does
35:35to a degree. Pressure is pressure.
35:37Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if these guys don't
35:39feel pressured, then these guys aren't out here
35:41trying to win. That's just a fact.
35:43Hayden believes he can beat all these guys,
35:45but there's a pressure that he puts on himself.
35:47So, yeah, he
35:49might not come out and say
35:51it's pressure, but all this cockiness,
35:53and I wouldn't say cockiness, confidence,
35:55excuse me, it's because that pressure,
35:57he knows he wants to go out here and do it,
35:59and every time he has it, he shows up
36:01and he gets it done. He certainly does.
36:05So the number one, looking to be
36:07just as strong
36:09this year as last year.
