00:00From last week. Let's go!
00:07Looks like Deegan and his teammate Nate Thrasher battling for the hole shot.
00:11Thrasher on the 41 has it. Look at the 16 up the inside.
00:14Tom Vielle and the Australian Kayden Minear.
00:17Second pro race going for it as well.
00:19Oh, I've been waiting for this to happen.
00:21Good to see Nate out front and quickly as that.
00:24Hey, Deegan moves his way up to the second position.
00:26So, great start for the star and Yamaha.
00:30These guys are out front. So many things going on.
00:33Yeah, well, one, two, three. Hard to call them all.
00:35Yes, it's now Thrasher, Deegan, and Minear.
00:37We mentioned Vielle. A good start by Drew Adams.
00:41Good to see the rookie right there.
00:43I think he just made some more passes.
00:45Yeah, Drew made his way around.
00:46Kayden Minear actually looked like Tom Vielle.
00:49Excuse me. Good start for him.
00:51Both these rookies up here trying to do something.
00:54Kayden Minear, which is a young one.
00:56Last weekend was his first race.
00:57Yeah.
00:58So, got his teammates, which he rides with every single,
01:00every day during the week.
01:01Let's see what he can do with it.
01:03Let's watch Deegan, who is right there battling.
01:07Trying to find where the pressure was.
01:09Those lines JT was talking about.
01:11That outside, inside.
01:12So wide, this racetrack.
01:15Yeah, there it is.
01:16They worked on some of this.
01:17It looks like Hayden's going to try to go around the outside.
01:19It's going to funnel back down.
01:20Let's see if Nate can close that off.
01:22A lot of ruts down here, which you can't see,
01:24but number one is up the inside already.
01:26And into the lead already.
01:28So, Deegan to the number one spot.
01:31Back section of the track about to emerge at the top of the hill.
01:36Yeah, it looks like we lost Kayden Minear.
01:38It looks like he goes down.
01:39That moves Drew Adams up to third place.
01:41So, good to see the rookie up here.
01:43Yeah, there you see the green machine, the monster pro circuit Kawasaki in third.
01:49What's the goal for Deegan now?
01:50Get away?
01:51Yeah, I mean, I think after last weekend, going 2-2, which is a great day for most,
01:56but not good enough for Hayden Deegan.
01:57This is exactly where he wants to be.
01:59When you go back to last year, he got bad starts.
02:01So, this is new to him.
02:02Normally, this is after 15 minutes, but I suspect Hayden Deegan is going to throw down the gauntlet right here,
02:07try to get a little gap and manage it from that point.
02:10Well, here's this interesting.
02:11It's the first time Deegan has led the first lap of a race this year.
02:14He's been awfully patient early in these races, and then works his way forward today out front early.
02:21Katie?
02:22Well, the team was telling me that Hayden Deegan had that kind of pressure off of his back, guys.
02:26It was like that winning streak was gone, and so he didn't have to worry about having that perfect season.
02:31But, in fact, that's something that I think is really interesting, Stu, from a rider's perspective.
02:36The fact that that streak is over for him, doesn't he maybe want to start that streak again and see when he can kind of come alive with it?
02:42Yeah, he almost came off the track with it right there.
02:45But, yeah, I think for Hayden, it's one thing losing a winning streak, you know, on your own mistake, but it's another one getting beat.
02:51And I think with him, you know, it's pretty easy for him to refocus because of the way it happened last week.
02:56He was trying to chase down chances.
02:58We were watching Levi try to get around his teammate right here for third place.
03:02But, back to Hayden Deegan, he takes a look back.
03:05I think he's just easy to just go back out there and win because that's where he belongs at.
03:09And it's a great way to start another streak up by being out front.
03:13You saw Kitchen make the move on Adams.
03:15You mentioned, James.
03:16This is at least better.
03:17This Pro Circuit team, they have been fast, but they have not been able to get good starts together.
03:22Oh, that's actually Hammaker up there.
03:24So, we've lost both Minear and Drew Adams, the two rookies who started well.
03:30First lap, not kind to them.
03:32But, anyway, this is at least some progress off the gate to see Kitchen and Hammaker third and fourth early.
03:38Yeah, I mean, this would be a great start.
03:40I mean, we saw Levi finish the motos last weekend.
03:42He was really confident.
03:44One, how he finished that moto, but his fitness, everything was coming good.
03:47And the weekend before, he was able to get third.
03:49So, I like when I see Levi Kitchen opening up the kitchen for business for free.
03:53Only problem is, he's got to chase down at number one, which is looking back, already trying to get away from him.
03:57And then there's Nate Thrasher in second.
04:00A bad weekend last weekend.
04:01A crash the weekend before that at Hangtown.
04:04It has been a very rough start to pro motocross.
04:07He's running well.
04:08And now it looks like the 16 of VL starting to come back to life in orange on the Red Bull KTM.
04:14Yeah, we heard Seth talk before the moto.
04:16He has a shoulder injury.
04:17So, with this racetrack, these downhills are probably going to be really tough for him.
04:21So, if you see him starting to struggle, these guys have been able to catch up on him as he's moving downhill.
04:26You got to believe that's probably of that shoulder.
04:28So, it's going to be a tough day for Nate.
04:29If he can just survive these opening laps, that shoulder will loosen up.
04:32And then he'll be able to maybe catch a toe with these guys.
04:35Now, meanwhile, Muneer, who was up there early, is 15th.
04:39And Drew Adams is 23rd.
04:42Muneer, you mentioned that he turned pro last week.
04:45He still had his amateur suspension because he had not ridden the pro bike.
04:48It was such a late call up.
04:50And then they had a lot of rain at home.
04:52So, this is actually his debut racing with the real pro level stiffer suspension.
04:57Would have been interesting to see what he could do.
04:59But then the crash after running second early.
05:02Followed VL here in fifth.
05:04Yeah, well, just speaking on that, I know that's a big change for anyone to make that change.
05:09Because it is a lot different amateur bumps compared to the pro bump.
05:12If you're watching some passes being made right here, I think that's Casey Cochran, I believe.
05:16And Jalik Smoll?
05:18Yeah.
05:19Yeah, 22.
05:20Yep.
05:21Smoll, welcome back.
05:22Yeah, when I see that 22, I think I'm on board Chad Reed.
05:24So, you know, good to see Jalik out here.
05:26You know, a lot of things are probably going to happen for him fast because he's been out.
05:30But, yeah, just that suspension change, as Kate Muneer has to deal with,
05:34it's going to be a big change because the amateur bumps are a lot smaller.
05:37So, making that change here, not having a lot of time,
05:39I'm sure it's going to be a lot to get used to it for the rookie.
05:42Let's see if he can move forward as you're watching the Honda teammates here, Shimoda and Hymas.
05:47Hymas has had great starts this year, three hole shots and six motos,
05:51but saw he didn't get the jump in this one.
05:54JT.
05:55Yeah, speaking of that, Luigi, you know, talking about the jump,
05:57it seems like so many of these guys have been so start dependent,
06:01and most of the time it's been for the net positive.
06:03Shimoda had such a strong start to the series with reasonably good starts.
06:07Hymas, we saw how powerful that could be last weekend.
06:10But the one rider who really hasn't been subject to any of that has been Hayden Deegan.
06:14Then you glance up at the points and you start to understand why he has a 25-point lead.
06:18And also, James, I just wanted to throw out there the phrase,
06:21my boy Chad Reed is something I never, ever thought you would say in this lifetime.
06:25So, well done on that one.
06:27Hey, everybody's changed his Father's Day weekend, Chad.
06:29What up?
06:30But everybody's got to change.
06:31But, you know, nonetheless, I think this is what we talked about in Race Day a lot
06:34when you talk about Chance Hymas to be a title threat.
06:37I think it's important for him to move his way up through these guys
06:40because the only way you're going to be a title threat for Hayden,
06:43you might not be able to beat him this first moto because Hayden's out front,
06:46but you've got to finish behind him.
06:48And the only way you can be able to do that is to be able to pass these group of riders.
06:51And as JT said, a lot of these guys are star dependent.
06:54So, let's see if Chance that 1-1 gave him that confidence as his teammates trying to get around Casey Cochran right in front of him.
07:00Cochran on that Rockstar Gas Gas, he is not making it easy on Shimoda.
07:04No, Casey's been riding really good.
07:06I ran into him at the airport, and he said just being up front,
07:09he's starting to learn that pace, and coming off the injury, it's tough for you.
07:13If you're not out here racing all year long, which he hasn't, he's going to get confidence,
07:17and he's going to be hard to pace to beat, and Joe Shimoda's finding that right now.
07:23Bottom box is the leader, Deegan, who has opened it up to 5 1⁄2 seconds over Thrasher.
07:28Kitchen in 3rd.
07:30A little bit further back is this battle.
07:32Heimus on the 10.
07:34Got Marsh Banks.
07:35Oh, yeah.
07:36Yeah.
07:37Unfortunately for Garrett, this has been a similar story all year long,
07:40and he's been riding really good to be able to make his way up,
07:43at least a lot of times in the top 5, finishing 3rd overall last weekend.
07:46Great second motor getting 8th after going down in the first corner,
07:49but can't start in the back if you're trying to get up and win these races,
07:53and maybe some of the results doesn't show how good Garrett's been riding all year long.
07:58A little bit in defense of that Pro Circuit team with the bad starts.
08:01Adams, Kitchen, and Marsh Banks.
08:04They might be the three heaviest guys in this field.
08:07Kitchen really tall.
08:08The other two are pretty stout as Shimoda and Cochran continue to battle.
08:12Nice line by the 30 of Shimoda.
08:14Yeah, that was beautiful, and that's the one thing that I love about here at Mount Morris
08:19is that it opens up a lot of corners, especially if it's not rutted.
08:22These guys can move around.
08:24And Shimoda makes the pass.
08:25Has for Heimus right behind them.
08:27Give you a replay.
08:28Oh, Shimoda down at the bottom of the hill.
08:31Yeah, easily can happen, which you can't tell on TV how steep that corner is,
08:34and Joe was just trying to get down to that inside rut,
08:37because there's a really good inside rut that these guys can bank off.
08:40It's going to be costly for Joe.
08:42Now as Boland and Masterpool battle pass, Shimoda will show you Heimus' start here in the box.
08:49Yeah, we were watching for the overhead shot, and you can tell off the gate he didn't get the jump,
08:54and when he didn't get the jump, he got closed off, and that's all he rode.
08:57So now he's going to be a salmon swimming upstream at this point trying to move around.
09:01And here's Shimoda's crash.
09:03Yeah, Joe's right here.
09:04He's trying to get, it looks like he tries to move over to the inside.
09:07You can see his front tire just pops over that rut.
09:10There's one where a chance there was an inside rut that Joe was trying to get to.
09:14Didn't happen.
09:15Easy way to lose the front end there, and that's going to be costly for him.
09:19JT.
09:20Yeah, just watching that Joe's a motor crash, we saw a similar type of crash from Cooper
09:2511, multi practice.
09:26Same corner, different line, but it's coming down that hill.
09:29It's so steep there, and they're putting so much pressure on the front end there.
09:33If you lose traction even for a split second with that front tire, you end up on your head.
09:37So those guys have to be really mindful in those sections to really practice their technique,
09:42get their body English, and really weight that front tire to make sure that they don't slip at all.
09:46Yeah, absolutely.
09:47And what makes it even more difficult, a lot of these corners are off camber.
09:50And what that means is like, if you're walking, all of us have walked up the side of a hill.
09:54Well, if you just try to walk up a hill and then try to walk sideways, that's what off camber it is.
09:58So your feet are always slipping away.
10:00That's what happens to Joe, losing that front end, goes down, easy to happen.
10:05A couple of battles to watch here.
10:06You've got the teammates, Kitchen and Handmaker in the bottom box battling for third, trying to close on Thrasher.
10:13And in this top box, that's Bolin versus Masterpol, who's last year's winner of this race, and then Shimoda.
10:21Yeah, and early I was talking about Ty, if he can, excuse me not Ty, but Seth, if he can just hold on and get that shoulder warmed up,
10:28maybe he'll be able to catch a toe, and it looks like that's what he's doing.
10:31Because behind him, he's got Tom Biao right behind him.
10:35So they're kind of pushing the pace.
10:37Unfortunately, they're about almost seven seconds behind the leader, Hayden Deegan, which is just trying to run away from him.
10:41Now at the bottom, you see Kitchen has bridged the gap to second place Thrasher.
10:46That was a nice move that was just made right there.
10:52This is going to be interesting as Kitchen moves up, Katie.
10:55That would be.
10:56He knows that he has the pace.
10:58He actually told me earlier today it was a start that he really needed to work on.
11:01But his opening lap speed, those two combined, if he could get those dialed in, he knew he had the pace to get the job done.
11:08Something to take into consideration, though, is he's had a mental coach that he said has changed the game for him.
11:13He also has put on a lot of weight, and that's actually been helpful.
11:16You guys were talking about him and Garrett earlier about the weight and the heaviness of them.
11:20He knows that's one of actually the things he's been working on and one of the important factors for him as well, and hopes that he can get around here, Nate Thrasher.
11:29Definitely getting stronger, Katie.
11:30He just makes the move here, James, for a second.
11:32Yeah, well, you can see that pass.
11:33Nate was trying to get back to the inside, but because of these corners are so off camera, Nate couldn't get back towards it to close that door off.
11:39But nice pass by Levi.
11:40And when these guys are talking about putting on weights, they're talking about putting on muscle.
11:43And we're not talking about going from 150 pounds to 170.
11:46It's just about putting on weight in the right position.
11:49So Levi Kitchen definitely not figured out whatever it is, the mental coach or whatever it is, he's starting to figure that part out.
11:55So maybe he can cut into Hayden Deegan's league.
11:58As for Thrasher there in third, I said it's been a slow start to the season.
12:03His best moto finish so far this year is 18th, and now he's running third.
12:09Yeah, I mean, that just showed you where to start.
12:11Things are starting to come quickly for Nate.
12:13It's weird, because if you haven't been up here, that pace really, it happens fast.
12:19And in this field, as you can see, there's a guy behind him.
12:22There's another guy behind the other guy.
12:24There's always going.
12:25So Nate, when things start coming on rattled, there's about five guys that you can instantly get past,
12:30and then it just starts to go downhill.
12:32So Nate knows how he's won races before in Supercross.
12:36He just needs to get used to all these guys, because I believe he has the pace.
12:40It's really about just being comfortable up front, then being able to run that pace, and he'll figure it out.
12:45Give me a check in with that monster energy.
12:48Yamaha Star Racing Team Deegan in the lead.
12:51Thrasher now third.
12:53Moseman, another quiet but very effective ride, is sixth.
12:56And Minear, who had that great start, now back to 18th.
13:00Again, in his second pro race, the young Australian.
13:03Now, the career best finish outdoors for Thrasher is a fourth.
13:07He had an Ironman a couple of years ago.
13:10See if he can stay in that spot.
13:11He's third at the moment, but Seth Hamaker closing on the 56.
13:15Yeah, like Seth been out here.
13:17He said he wanted to get top five.
13:18So normally when a guy like Seth is up here, obviously the crashes and stuff have been hindering him.
13:23So for him, he's riding.
13:25He's trying 100%.
13:26But at the same time, he's also trying to be cautious and make sure he doesn't go down, hurt that shoulder again.
13:31And he knows top fives, he can build that confidence and then eventually get a win.
13:37Yeah, Seth, actually he and Thrasher crashed together at Hangtown.
13:43Second turn of the race.
13:46Hamaker got up and then immediately crashed even bigger going downhill in the very next section of the track.
13:52And that's what led to the shoulder injury that prevented it from racing last weekend.
13:58So a nice comeback here for Seth.
14:01And that is third and fourth.
14:04Fifth is Vial next.
14:07Send it back to JT.
14:09Well, Tom Vial, he really, you know, came into this series thinking he was going to be a championship contender.
14:14And it started pretty well.
14:15His first round at Fox Raceway gets on the podium.
14:18I even asked him, hey, are you content with being a podium guy?
14:21No, absolutely not.
14:22I want to win.
14:23Well, ever since then, things have not gone very well.
14:25So he's back running around near the top five.
14:27But he has got to try to find the positive momentum and get back to the form that we know he has.
14:32Yeah, speaking about some form, Michael Moselman, before he got out there on track, he was so chill on the start line.
14:39He was doing some yoga, actually some stretching.
14:41It was pretty cool to see him in that position.
14:44Of course, he's had three podiums.
14:46But this season, right, so far, it's only been an eighth, a tenth, and a fourteenth.
14:50But he's a guy that knows how to get the job done.
14:52In fact, here at High Point, last time he was out here racing, which was, by the way, in 2022, he ran a fourth.
14:58So it's a place he's been comfortable at, but he really needs to dial it in a little bit more.
15:02Yeah, if your chance time is right here, you've got to be somewhat bummed.
15:05Because coming off last weekend, going that one-one, being fast in practice as well, you knew you wanted to come out here and try to get another win.
15:12And it's going to be hard for you because you don't really see the guy in front of you.
15:16So you've got to continue to race forward.
15:18Look at that pit board.
15:19Now, McCannister, chase the guy in front of you.
15:21Chase that pit board.
15:22Try to bring those lap times down to see if you can close the gap.
15:24Because right now you're by the second off with the pace you need to be running to catch the guys in front of you.
15:29And dealing with a little pressure from Marchbanks, who's behind him in eighth.
15:34Marchbanks, only man left out in California for that monster pro circuit Kawasaki team.
15:39His teammates have all headed east, but the factory 450 riders like Jason Anderson are still out in California.
15:47So he's been riding with Anderson now.
15:49That is, 250 teammates are gone.
15:52Also gone is half the moto here.
15:54Hold up.
15:55Shout out to Monster Energy for backing us here.
15:58And a reminder that you can purchase Monster Energy.
16:00It's available at BFS Foods.
16:03What are you seeing here, James?
16:05Yeah, I was looking at Seth Handmaker got around Nate Thrasher.
16:08So he moves his way up to third and see if he can keep on with his teammate.
16:13Levi has a pretty good pace.
16:14He's losing.
16:15He was able to catch Hayden the lap before, but then Hayden dropped the hammer and went back to 209.
16:19Levi in the 211.
16:20And I think a lot of that comes from is that Levi eventually is going to start riding behind him because he can't see Hayden.
16:26And it's just hard to chase a rabbit that you can't see.
16:29And it's easy to start looking back at your teammate coming up.
16:32And you always want to beat your teammate.
16:33So this race is going to go all the way down to the finish if these two stay up.
16:38What surprised me, some of these back sections here, it looks like he is not charging at all.
16:42That must be how technical, how difficult the track is because obviously he is still going fast.
16:46Yeah, I think a lot in these back sections where we had some rain, some of it was the gnarly G outs.
16:52What you can't see is the holes in the bottom of it because the rain water had to come off somewhere.
16:57So some of these sections you can see these guys, if we come back to it, they will slow down because actually the rain is sitting down there just getting a deeper, deeper hole.
17:04So Levi, I think he's doing a good job.
17:06He's pushing it, but it's a difficult racetrack.
17:09And it's hard when you see this number one just pulling it away from you no matter how hard you try.
17:14JT.
17:15Well, speaking of doing a good job, Hayden Gagan certainly doing that.
17:19And I wanted to ask you guys, did you guys notice him?
17:21He was our fastest qualifier and I got a chance to speak to him right afterwards.
17:25There was not a lot of joking around, you know, typically he's got to take a jab to people having some fun with the interview.
17:31He was all business this morning.
17:34James, I'm just wondering, like, do you think that is coming off of last weekend and just his overall mindset entering this round?
17:40Oh, 100%, 100%.
17:42And you would think that because of his points lead, he'd be really relaxed.
17:45And I heard him, we spoke to his dad, you know, Brian, and he said, you know, what's the message being sent?
17:51And he didn't really throw us out there.
17:53You know, he said he won, Hayden wanted to win.
17:55But he also said that as he gets close to jumping off the racetrack, he also said, Hayden woke up.
17:59He could tell by his son's attitude that it was going to be a good day.
18:02And when you were talking to him, JT, it seemed like that.
18:05No playing around.
18:06He knew he wanted to stop that number 10 from getting any confidence.
18:09And what better way to do it than what you're doing right now with an 11-second lead?
18:13And as he pulls away, you can focus on that bottom box.
18:16Good battle now between the teammates, Moseman and Thrasher, 5th and 6th.
18:20Katie?
18:21Well, coming back up to Hayden Deegan, guys, there's so much you could talk about with this guy.
18:25But Brent Duffy, his mechanic, was telling me after practice today, he came off the track and he said, man, I left some speed out there.
18:30So, of course, that shows the team that he is confident.
18:33And, guys, confidence brings confidence, right?
18:35Stu, you know that one well.
18:37Yeah.
18:38Yeah.
18:39And if you're looking at dictionary confidence, you've got to see a picture of Hayden Deegan because he has the confidence.
18:44And why would you?
18:45Now, he has the luxury right now.
18:47Like, he's pulling away from these guys.
18:49But, honestly, he's probably rotting in his heart probably 80%.
18:52So, he's saving energy.
18:53He's been able to move around.
18:55And on this racetrack that is easy to make mistakes, he's been able to choose his own lines and not rush certain sections.
19:01So, compared to a guy like Levi, has to make up time.
19:05So, he has to push it down.
19:06Hayden's in the perfect position.
19:07And I'm sure he's saving energy at this point.
19:10And it's going to be hard for these guys to beat him in the second moto because he's not riding that hard at the moment.
19:17We saw the work he could do without good starts and how strong he could be late in the motos a year ago.
19:22Yeah.
19:23It's making life much easier on himself.
19:25Yeah.
19:26I like this inside line.
19:27We saw it a lot before Garrett Marchbank.
19:29He went on the outside.
19:30Then he cut all the way back to the right.
19:32So, being patient.
19:33And Hayden has that luxury to be able to just slow down and get to that inside.
19:37It sets you up better for that tunnel jump.
19:39And if you just watch him, all his lines, he's not rushing in any corner.
19:43He's going exactly where he wants to go.
19:45If he wants to miss a bump, he'll slow down and move his way around the racetrack.
19:48And the reason he's able to do that is because he's out front.
19:51Nobody's pressuring him.
19:52Sitting back there waiting for a mistake.
19:54And the Super Motocross playoffs return with racing September 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
19:59September 13th, St. Louis, Missouri.
20:01And then in September, join us for the SMX World Championship Final in Las Vegas, Nevada.
20:06Champions are crowned like Hayden Deegan has been the last two years.
20:10For tickets and information, go to SuperMotocross.com.
20:14Love the hybrid tracks, the two-day format, and much, much more.
20:18And Deegan will be aiming for the three-peat in the 250 division, as will Jet Lawrence.
20:23Trying to do the same in the 450 class.
20:25A little clutch of Jets men over there.
20:30Like this outside line.
20:33Slow down right here.
20:34Pop over this.
20:35JT.
20:36Yeah, just watching Deegan's line choice here.
20:39James, this is the position you found yourself in.
20:41I would say 12 seconds might be on the lower side of the position you found yourself in at this racetrack.
20:46But you notice, he's taking the smoothest lines all the way around the racetrack.
20:50And I just wanted to follow what you were talking about.
20:52This is the advantage you get when you have a lead like this.
20:56He doesn't have to take necessarily the fastest line.
20:58He can take the smoothest line.
21:00That's going to set him up so nicely for the second moto, because he's not hitting any bumps.
21:04He's saving so much energy.
21:06Those guys in the battle, they are forced to take the absolute fastest and most often roughest line around the racetrack.
21:12So there's so many benefits to getting out and getting a lead like this.
21:15No, absolutely.
21:16You saw him jump all the way down that hill.
21:18And if he had somebody behind him, he would have to try to make it to that inside,
21:22because he'd have to worry about somebody to come to him.
21:24But because he's out front, as you can see him, you know, cut back across that corner.
21:28It just works out beautiful for him.
21:30Now we're watching the battle.
21:31It's Masterpool.
21:33Moving up, battling Shimoda.
21:36Oh, that's Joe got back up.
21:38Okay, good.
21:39And here's that downhill from a different view.
21:41So, yeah, Shimoda's got to go inside here, right?
21:43Yeah, so Hayden jumped all the way down.
21:45And if somebody like Joe was behind him, he would have to get back over.
21:48But Joe didn't get that corner properly.
21:51Now he's getting past, and he's going to be frustrated because, again, he just lost that time.
21:55Now he's got to go back to work and try to get back through him, Katie.
21:58I think a note about Ty Masterpool is he went back to Texas this week.
22:02And why is that important?
22:03Well, last year, at high point, when he got the 300th win for Pro Circuit, and he won this race, he also went back to Texas saying it was a bit of a reset.
22:12That's exactly what he needed after the last few rounds where he's felt sick.
22:15He's had issues even throwing up and different things.
22:18He's hoping that Texas homage would have paid a little bit of just relaxation and rest for him.
22:24Another thing to note about Ty is he changed to a nutritionist recently, and he's hoping that also helps his health both on and off track.
22:31Yeah, thanks, Katie.
22:32He said he actually hooked up with a nutritionist through Levi Kitchen because Ty has had some problems.
22:37Kitchen said when he was battling him last weekend in that second moto, he's like, well, I knew the guy was going to fade.
22:41I literally saw him throwing up before the second moto, and we've been talking about that all year.
22:46As you were saying, the teammates can't quite hide the ailments from each other.
22:50No, no, they can't.
22:51And especially, like, you know, in Ty's situation and Levi, he's like, look, you know, I fed him.
22:56He's working with my nutrition.
22:57I know he's throwing up over there.
22:58So, you know, come to my kitchen, I'll help you out.
23:01But, yeah, when your teammate, you're battling for your teammate for a championship, you know all the secrets.
23:07And you've got to think about in the 450 class, the Lawrence brothers, you know, Jim Lawrence, he knows everything about his brothers.
23:13So, there's no secrets.
23:14Just got to go out there.
23:15Let's see if Joe can go back to work on Ty.
23:17There will be some opportunities to make some passes, and here might be one of them right here.
23:21Joe, get close, but Ty's going to be back alongside of him.
23:24Got this gnarly breaking bump.
23:26Let's see if Ty can get close to him on the inside, or Joe's going to cut him off.
23:29There you go.
23:30Man, it's a great battle.
23:31They passed each other a couple of times, and look, Masterpool fighting back again.
23:35Yeah, but Ty's going to try to set him up and see if he can square him up.
23:38But Joe did a pretty good line right there being defensive, but there you go.
23:43A lot of opportunities.
23:44I expect Joe's going to go around the outside.
23:47Good job, Ty.
23:48Wow.
23:49And they've caught Thrasher now, who's right in front of them.
23:53Top box is Hymas, who is catching Moseman for fifth.
23:57Three-rider fight now.
23:59Nate Thrasher, Masterpool Shimoda.
24:02Yeah, that's one thing here at Mount Morris.
24:05All these different lines.
24:06Once you get into it, some of these corners, you've got to stay in that rut.
24:09But it gives you an opportunity to make some passes if you're Joe Shimoda.
24:12And this would be another opportunity to see what Ty does.
24:15Now he's going to run it up the inside.
24:17Ty will probably hit the brakes and try to square underneath them like that.
24:20It's unbelievable.
24:21It's good.
24:22And all that being said, they're closing in on Nate Thrasher right in front of them.
24:27So great stuff.
24:29And then Hymas continuing to close.
24:32Moseman for fifth.
24:33They all up to fourth.
24:35And Masterpool Shimoda.
24:37More passes en route.
24:39Yeah, one of them is trying to get in two for Bogo Special.
24:44And it ties in a difficult spot because he wants to try to pass Michael.
24:48But then he's got Joe.
24:49And sometimes you've got to leave that door open.
24:51Now Michael's starting to slow him down.
24:53And Joe's going to go around the outside of both of them.
24:56Here's the Bogo.
24:57Yeah, Bogo Special.
24:58Got it.
24:59Got the lightning deal right there.
25:01Oh, I like it, man.
25:03For those labels on the clearance rack, you know.
25:06You see the bright colors.
25:07It's a good deal.
25:08And Masterpool able to pass Moseman, Thrasher as well.
25:13They're going.
25:14Yeah, we were looking at Michael.
25:15But, yeah, that is Nate Thrasher right there.
25:17So, yep.
25:18Yeah, Moseman is battling with the other Honda.
25:19Yeah.
25:20Hymas in the other box.
25:21He was in that battle box earlier.
25:22Uh-huh.
25:23Hey, lots of teammates out here.
25:25Okay, so now, will Shimoda be able to take it?
25:27Will Shimoda be able to end this with Masterpool?
25:30Will Ty come back on him?
25:32Yeah, normally, most riders that Joe, if he has somebody to chase,
25:36then I think he'll be able to end it.
25:38Because, clearly, I think he's faster to, you know, Ty at this point.
25:42But if he doesn't have a rabbit to chase, as I mentioned with Levi,
25:46it's easy to start riding behind you.
25:47So, we'll see what happens.
25:49But somewhat a good ride by chance.
25:51This is what I wanted to see.
25:52Could he be able to come up through the pack?
25:54These guys spread it out for him.
25:56So, now he's got to close the gap.
25:57But still, if he can get within the top five, maybe even, you know, close to Tom Vial,
26:02it'd be somewhat of a good ride for him mentally, that is,
26:05compared to what we saw a couple weeks ago with him having food poison,
26:08pulling off the racetrack and stuff.
26:10You've got to at least back up another 1-1 with at least the top five,
26:13because that's the best you can do today.
26:15Yeah, just looking for fifth with Moseman here on the 93 right in front of him.
26:19Told you Moseman's story several times.
26:22A broken neck and several concussions led him to think that his racing days were over.
26:27The neck healed up.
26:28The doctor said, you're not any more likely to have a problem than anyone who had not broken their neck.
26:32No long-term complications.
26:33So, he decided to give this one more shot.
26:36And, because he's always been fast, he got a shot with this Yamaha team.
26:42So, he's got the good equipment, the good squad, trying to make the most of it.
26:45Yeah, and you saw that line where we got the sky shot, the double.
26:50Let's see if Chance can bully himself up the inside.
26:53There you go.
26:54Move out my way.
26:55Move or be hit.
26:56Love it.
26:57So, fifth for Hymas despite the bad start.
27:01Send it to Katie.
27:04See what the strategy is for the Honda crew.
27:06It's one of those strategies that is pretty funny.
27:10It says, stay loose and dig.
27:12And that is all the pit boards are saying right now for Chance Hymas.
27:15Stay loose and dig.
27:16Well, Katie, I'll tell you who's staying loose.
27:17Maybe a little too much.
27:18We saw Michael Moseman.
27:19I don't know if he saved that or not.
27:21That bike was full swap left to right.
27:23He's still there.
27:24No, he's still there.
27:25Man, that was a close one.
27:27So, that's definitely a loosey-goosey at that point.
27:29And, yeah, but I can tell you one thing.
27:31Like, he won't remember that happened until somebody brings it up.
27:34Be like, oh, yeah, almost died out there.
27:36But he's going to continue racing forward.
27:38That's what I love about all these athletes, man, things.
27:40They almost just died a corner before.
27:42But they forget about it a corner later until somebody brings it up.
27:47Yeah, let's see this again.
27:50Oh, Julian Volmer having his problems in this moto.
27:52We caught it.
27:53Give it the replay at the top of the screen.
27:56Julian going down.
27:58He starts.
27:59So, there's ruts right there.
28:00And he starts losing the front end going off that little hump.
28:02And, yeah, just lost it and just slid all the way down the hill.
28:05And that's what I'm saying on camera.
28:06You can't tell how steep these hills are.
28:08But once you start losing the front end, it's easy to just fall over.
28:11As we watched Joe do the same thing early in the day.
28:13So, yeah, Shimoda fell at the bottom of that hill where you just saw Jimas in qualifying.
28:20So, Jimas, fifth, three-second gap to be out.
28:25Let's see if he can make one more run.
28:27Yeah, I think he's a little closer to Tom than that.
28:31Let's see if he can get around these lappers.
28:33As you saw, Tom just popped out of that screen.
28:35So, Chance has some pretty good lines.
28:37You can see how patient he is in the lap before.
28:39I was saying with Michael how he was so far on the outside and he had to cut back.
28:43Well, I like the line that Chance is doing.
28:45He's just taking his time being slow.
28:47But it sets him up better for this next corner, which sets him up better for this whole section.
28:52So, he's got a toe in on Tom Bial.
28:56Yeah, you can see him.
28:57That's pretty close now.
28:58Yeah.
28:59Man, you talked so much, especially this year, about the difference, having that toe, seeing the guy.
29:04And what a difference that makes.
29:05No, I mean, it really is.
29:07It's like a person training.
29:08You know, your goal, I want to lose weight.
29:11Well, you've got to have some kind of goal to do it or any kind of goal in life.
29:14And I think with these riders, you know, of course, they're all fast.
29:17But you've got to have a toe.
29:18And especially when you get close to somebody, you know when they're braking.
29:21So, you can just stay on that little bit, you know, stay on the throttle a little bit harder.
29:25That's why it's a lot easier to catch a guy compared to passing him.
29:28You know, I think if he stays a little bit closer, he might have a shot again, Tom.
29:33And that could put him in perhaps overall territory, depending on how the second moto breaks.
29:39A five would make it tough.
29:42This would be huge, potentially, by the end of the day.
29:44The difference between this fourth and fifth.
29:46Who's going to get it?
29:47The L versus Honest.
29:48Yeah, I mean, I think for overall, it's, you know, Hayden away.
29:52How strong he's been all year long.
29:54You're probably going to have to be closer to Levi.
29:56That's second, third place.
29:57Fourth is in case something happens.
29:59Yeah, it puts you in overall situation.
30:01But I think what it does is just lets everybody know chances here.
30:06Like his fitness is there.
30:07He's able to not get the best start.
30:09He's going to climb his way back up to, you know, the top five.
30:13And I think that just more sends a message to him, but also even Hayden Deegan.
30:17You know, you're not going to have the situation where chance doesn't get a start.
30:20Okay, he doesn't get a start.
30:21He's out.
30:22No big deal.
30:23Kid starting to find his confidence.
30:24And the only way he does that by that one one last weekend allows him to build a move his way up front.
30:29I think this is going to continue to help him throughout the rest of this year.
30:32Yeah, no doubt.
30:33I didn't want to say, but yes, to turn a fourth or fifth in the overall with Deegan,
30:37they're going to need some help, some luck in the second moto.
30:40Oh, Seth Hamaker, hang on to that thing.
30:43This would be big if he can, he almost crashed there.
30:46If he can keep it on two wheels and bring it to the end,
30:48this will actually be the first ever moto podium for Seth Hamaker in pro motocross.
30:53His career best is a fourth right here at High Point about two years ago.
30:58Yeah, that's crazy to think how good Seth has been, but that's really what injuries are.
31:03And, you know, if his shoulder is starting to bottom, I can tell you one thing,
31:07those rollers that he came down hitting at, that is going to bother him quite a bit.
31:11Not only with that, with these downhills, a lot of these corners,
31:14there's like you're slamming down and then you have an instant stop.
31:17So Seth is doing a good job.
31:19If he can finish with his podium with his teammate, it'd be a great ride.
31:24And the work he has put in with the Lawrences there at their compound, the Dog Pound,
31:30has really paid off.
31:32A lot of work on riding technique.
31:33And they tell me that Seth will land on Sundays after Supercross from the airport,
31:38go to the track, get on a pit bike.
31:40Not a full practice day on the real bike, but just work on drills, work on figure eights,
31:44work on turns to really get that riding technique to set in on a Sunday
31:48before going back to the regular Monday through Thursday schedule.
31:52So he's doing everything he can to accelerate the learning curve.
31:55But we've seen big advancements this year.
31:58Yeah, no, I agree.
31:59And Seth looks like that type of guy.
32:01Like, when you see certain riders, you just know they have that work ethic.
32:05And then I think the way he rides, he looks like a guy that's never going to give up.
32:09Kind of like Tom Masterpool, I like to say.
32:11Certain guys are just dogs out there.
32:13When you look at Seth, all the injuries to bounce back, he's got the heart.
32:18He's got to find that health and that belief, and he'll be fine.
32:21But the one guy who doesn't have any problems with any of that is Hayden Deegan, man.
32:25I'm telling you right now, he's going to be just as fresh for that second moto as he was this first one
32:30because he's been saving some energy all race long.
32:33Love it.
32:34Check in again with the 2-2.
32:37Jalik Swole coming back from the Achilles injury.
32:40That's pretty darn fast.
32:42I think that happened in November, if I remember right.
32:46So here we are, just a little over six months, and back on the racetrack on the Triumph.
32:52And he admitted to me yesterday, yeah, maybe the cardio fitness is not quite there.
32:56It's only been about two and a half weeks on the bike.
32:58But, hey, racing is training in its own way.
33:01No, absolutely.
33:02I think Jalik's doing a great job out here.
33:04I mean, this is going to be a good job just finishing these motos.
33:08He said he maybe shouldn't be dancing on that thing, but he put his dance shoes on today.
33:12So if he can finish top 15 in the first ride, I'm sure everybody had the Triumph to be happy.
33:16And his speed is there.
33:18To come back, he was, you know, top six in qualifying.
33:21So he has the speed.
33:22This is expected with the race fitness.
33:25Back to the leader, Hayden Deegan.
33:27Final lap now.
33:29And looking to make it six moto wins.
33:33Sorry, five moto wins in, do my math right here, seven starts.
33:38Yes, that would be correct.
33:40Seventh moto of the year.
33:41And this one, probably the easiest so far this season.
33:45Yeah, you got my math skills going on.
33:47Five out of four?
33:48Five out of four people struggling with math there.
33:50No points.
33:51I'm one of the five.
33:52Yeah, no, it's all good.
33:53Just bad influences off you.
33:55You get it from me.
33:56Contagious here.
33:58Well, hey, look, math is easy.
34:00Just look at the gap he has.
34:02He's on cruise control on this final lap.
34:04No, he's on cruise control.
34:06And then still say a great route for him, but also a great route for Levi.
34:10I think this is going to help Levi.
34:12But again, Hayden Deegan is resting up.
34:15He'll be ready for that second moto.
34:16It's been a fun moto for him, I can tell you that much.
34:19Just able to tuck it into that run at the bottom of the hill.
34:22Now headed for daylight.
34:24One turn remains.
34:27And the fans salute him at the top.
34:30Hayden Deegan wins moto one at high point.
34:35Battle's still going.
34:36Shimoda and Marchbanks.
34:38Sixth place.
34:39Been seeing this all year long for Joe.
34:41Good job to be able to catch Garrett because he wasn't even close to him.
34:45Now let's see what happens.
34:46Garrett's probably going to try to block this inside.
34:49Joe might have an opportunity.
34:50If he gets a run on the outside, he should be able to get around him.
34:53Here it is, James.
34:54Yeah, Joe has this because he's got to put him on the inside of the next one.
34:57Nice move by Joe.
34:58Wow, what a charge.
35:00And Shimoda as Marchbanks rushes that last corner to get him.
35:04Back can't do it.
35:05And Shimoda is going to rip sixth place away with two turns to go.
35:09Yeah, Garrett was trying to rip them goggles off.
35:11I don't think he was too happy.
35:13But he was stuck in a weird spot.
35:14He didn't have no choice.
35:15If he went outside, he was going to get passed.
35:17But yeah, did his best.
35:19And so did this guy Hayden Deegan.
35:22Another win.
35:23Rhea Stout.
35:24Rhea Stout.
35:25Rhea Stout.
