This is an animated story of an unusual kingdom in which everything and everybody is pointed, except for a young boy named Oblio (Mike Lookinland). Despite his round head, he has many friends. But an evil Count (Lennie Weinrib), jealous that he is more popular than his own son (Buddy Foster), says that without a pointed head, he is an outlaw. Along with his faithful dog, Arrow, he is exiled to the Pointless Forest. There, he has many fantastic experiences (including encounters with a three-headed man, giant bees, a tree in the leaf-selling business (Paul Frees), and a good-humored old rock (Bill Martin)). From his adventures, he learns that it is not at all necessary to be pointed to have a point in life.

00:00:00Are you sleeping? Can you hear me? Do you know if I am by your side?
00:00:17Does it matter if you hear me? When the morning comes I'll be there by your side.
00:00:28And in the morning when I wake up, she may be telling me goodbye, la, la, la, la.
00:00:41And in the evening if we break up, I'm wondering why, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya.
00:00:56Yeah, I will, Mom. I'll turn it off right after the program's over.
00:01:05Program? You know, I can remember when kids used to like to have stories read to them.
00:01:10They'd actually beg their parents, like their fathers, to read these stories.
00:01:15Mom, Dad, you always start talking about that when I want to watch my program.
00:01:19It was a very big deal. The fathers would read these exciting stories and sometimes adventure stories to them.
00:01:26This is my favorite program, Dad.
00:01:28And the kids would brag to their friends about how their fathers would read these great...
00:01:33Mom, Dad. The other guys get to watch their programs.
00:01:36Kids used to like their parents. Used to like them to read these marvelous...
00:01:40Dad.
00:01:43Mmm.
00:01:46Now, let's see. Now, here's a story. This is a story...
00:01:50There be monsters?
00:01:52This is a story a man could actually read to his...
00:01:55Yeah, okay, Dad.
00:01:56Monsters. Yeah, sure, monsters.
00:02:00Listen. Once upon a time, a long way from here and a long way from now, there was a tiny village where everything...
00:02:11The houses and the carts, the bridges and the barns, everything, all had points on them.
00:02:20In fact, it was so full of points that even the people had points.
00:02:26The people, right there on top of their heads.
00:02:37And it didn't seem strange at all, because that's the way life was in the village.
00:02:43That's the way it always had been.
00:02:46And for all anybody knew, that's the way it always would be.
00:02:51As you might have already guessed, the main activity of the village was making points.
00:02:58And needless to say, business was brisk and the competition was... competitive.
00:03:06This is the town and these are the people.
00:03:19This is the town where the people all stay.
00:03:23This is the town and these are the people.
00:03:28That's the way they wanted it.
00:03:30That's the way it's going to stay.
00:03:39And while the farmers kept the village's bodies nourished with pointed crops,
00:03:43The artist's colony in the community, as in all communities,
00:03:47did their part to keep minds and souls filled with new points to view.
00:03:52This is the town and these are the people.
00:03:59This is the town and these are the people.
00:04:01This is the town where the people all stay.
00:04:05And that's the way they wanted it.
00:04:07And that's the way it's going to stay.
00:04:11And that's the way it's going to stay.
00:04:22To be or not to be, that is the point.
00:04:28Everything's got them.
00:04:31Everything's got them.
00:04:34Everything needs one.
00:04:38Couldn't be without one.
00:04:42Everything has one.
00:04:47This is the town and these are the people.
00:04:51This is the town where the people all stay.
00:04:55It was a good life, a settled life, and the point was the point of it all.
00:05:03You could look high, and you could look low, but you'd never hear any complaints on that count.
00:05:12Well, almost never.
00:05:14And then one day, a very unusual thing happened in the village.
00:05:26A little baby boy was born, a boy named Oblio.
00:05:32Now, don't get the wrong idea.
00:05:34The being born part wasn't unusual.
00:05:37Little kids were being born all the time in that village.
00:05:40What was unusual was that Oblio, unlike any of the other babies born that day or any other day, had no point.
00:05:51He had no point at all.
00:05:54Hi, son.
00:05:55Hi, Oblio.
00:06:01Well, hello there.
00:06:03Hi, how you doing?
00:06:04Fine, nice to see you.
00:06:05How good, what's new?
00:06:06Same old sixes and sevens.
00:06:07Really, really, well, I have to...
00:06:08I guess you heard about them.
00:06:09Them?
00:06:10Them.
00:06:10Yeah, they had a kid.
00:06:12Well, that's nice.
00:06:12Kid's got no point.
00:06:14Oh, come on.
00:06:15No, I'm serious.
00:06:15Their kid's a kid who's got no point.
00:06:17You're putting me on.
00:06:18Would I lie to you?
00:06:19Well, I think that is why.
00:06:21So, you see, Oblio was a kind of involuntary, instant celebrity.
00:06:26His uniqueness was, well, something that was noticed around the village.
00:06:33Naturally, his parents couldn't help noticing either.
00:06:37We have a lot to be thankful for, you know.
00:06:39He's a healthy little nipper, I'll say that.
00:06:42And he's happy.
00:06:44I'll bet he'll be a great...
00:06:47Oh, he has a wonderful disposition.
00:06:49Yeah, but he doesn't have a point.
00:06:51Maybe, maybe he'll grow one.
00:06:53But he didn't.
00:06:57No, as things turned out, Oblio didn't grow any point at all.
00:07:03But it really wasn't so very noticeable.
00:07:06As a matter of fact, in time, he took to wearing a cap, a pointed cap, his mother made.
00:07:13It kept his head warm, and it did make him look a lot more like all the other ordinary kids in the village.
00:07:21Just about the same time Oblio got his new cap, he also got...
00:07:26Me and my arrow, you guessed it, the greatest dog in the world.
00:07:35Me and my arrow, you guessed it, the greatest dog in the world.
00:07:38Wherever we go, everyone knows.
00:07:41It's me and my arrow.
00:07:44Me and my arrow.
00:07:45Me and my arrow, you guessed it, the greatest dog in the world.
00:07:57Wherever we go, everyone knows.
00:08:02It's me and my arrow, me and my arrow.
00:08:10And then one day after school, a very serious thing happened.
00:08:23Hey, let's choose up sides for triangle toss.
00:08:26I got Harry.
00:08:26Okay, then I want Fred.
00:08:28Okay, Richard.
00:08:29All right, then.
00:08:30I'll take Oblio.
00:08:31Uh-uh, not him.
00:08:33He can't play.
00:08:35Ow!
00:08:35It was the Count's son, and that was the serious thing.
00:08:39You see, the village Count was a very powerful man, and frankly, not all that nice a guy.
00:08:47And the way things sometimes work out, a certain amount of that not niceness has rubbed off on his son.
00:08:55Oh, he was liked, but he was not well liked.
00:09:00How come you said I couldn't play?
00:09:02Because you can't, so beat it.
00:09:04Always have before, me and arrow.
00:09:06Hey, look, you're not playing, so just push on.
00:09:09That's not fair.
00:09:10Tough.
00:09:11Triangle toss is for people with pointed heads.
00:09:14Toss the triangle.
00:09:14We know how to play the game.
00:09:16Then run and catch it on your point.
00:09:18Aw, everybody knows that.
00:09:20Yeah, but you got no point, so you can't play.
00:09:23We can play better than you can.
00:09:25You what?
00:09:26I said we can play better than you can.
00:09:28Hey, wait a minute.
00:09:29You're looking for some real trouble.
00:09:32And I'll bet you we can beat you at triangle toss, too.
00:09:36Say that again.
00:09:37I said I bet we can beat you at...
00:09:40Oh, yeah?
00:09:41Well, what do you want to bet?
00:09:43Huh?
00:09:43Come on, no point.
00:09:45What do you want to bet?
00:09:47Bet you anything.
00:09:49Oblio and the Count's kid are going to duel.
00:09:51Come on, Oblio, fight him, fight him, fight him.
00:09:53Get him real fun, come on.
00:09:54Come on, Oblio, fight him, fight him.
00:10:24Come on, Oblio, fight him, fight him.
00:10:54Okay, here's the way we're gonna go.
00:10:59That's two out of three catches.
00:11:01Anything's fair.
00:11:03Holy cow!
00:11:04Wow!
00:11:05The only rule is you gotta catch a triangle with your head.
00:11:08Or your mutts, in your case, Oblio.
00:11:10The first man to catch two triangles wins.
00:11:14Get the idea, Oblio?
00:11:16So long, sucker.
00:11:28That's okay, Arrow.
00:11:30It's okay.
00:11:32Heck, he's not all that tough.
00:11:33Layers to your marks!
00:12:00Pretty neat, huh, old Leo?
00:12:03Whose side are you on, anyway?
00:12:25Wow! Great catch!
00:12:27That's too much!
00:12:29Three!
00:12:31Last toss!
00:12:47Yay!
00:12:48Hooray for only all!
00:12:49OBLIO! Yay!
00:12:51Top of the game!
00:12:53Yay!
00:12:54Thanks.
00:12:55But don't forget about Arrow. Arrow was the...
00:12:57I won't forget Arrow. And I won't forget you either, roundhead.
00:13:01Now, what do you want to go say something like that for? Remember, you were the guy who...
00:13:05Oh, I'll remember, OBLIO. And so will you. My father will see to that.
00:13:11Gee!
00:13:13Oh, golly, gee, what you said!
00:13:15Hey, come on. It's just a dumb old game.
00:13:17A game, OBLIO?
00:13:19Huh. When my dad gets done with you, he'll wish this dumb old game had never been invented.
00:13:25If it's that important to you, then...
00:13:27Do you gather my meaning, OBLIO?
00:13:31Predictably enough, when the Count learned of his son's defeat, he was furious.
00:13:38As for the boy himself, as soon as he saw which way the wind was blowing, he just laid low and let his father's evil disposition lead the way.
00:13:48Would that it were not true! You idiot! You pathetic fool! I groomed you. Oh, how I groomed you. I cultivated you like a rare flower. And for this? Oh, no! By guile and foul deed, I laid the groundwork for you to rule this miserable village one day. And rule you will!
00:14:12I shall not be denied. But as long as that vile little round person, that OBLIO languishes among us, your leadership credibility is shot!
00:14:24We must rid ourselves of that contemptible little twerk once and for all. And that's exactly what I intend to do.
00:14:33Yes, you'll still rule one day, you useless nit, because OBLIO is finished.
00:14:40You can bank on that.
00:14:52Now the king was a good-natured, harmless old fellow. The kind who had weathered life in a rather middle groove. No great highs, no deep lows. He was a decent but very ordinary man.
00:15:06He was also a very ordinary ruler of other men.
00:15:10Ah, if it isn't the illustrious...
00:15:12My king! Hmm? A word in your ear.
00:15:16Oh, anything you say, my dear count. I was just relaxing with a couple of...
00:15:22Yes, I saw. King, we have a problem.
00:15:26Oh? Well, that's hard to believe. I thought all systems were go. I mean, I always like to think that...
00:15:32King, the law of the land has been violated.
00:15:36Violated? The law of the land? Oh! Why, why, why, that's impossible.
00:15:43It is done.
00:15:44Oh, but there must be some mistake. Why, the law of the land clearly states that everything and everyone must have a point.
00:15:52That purely and simply is the law of the land. Why, you can't violate a law like that in a place like this.
00:16:02Well, just look around.
00:16:03You look around, my dear king. The law is being violated at this very moment.
00:16:08For the sake of all the decent people, appropriate measures must be taken.
00:16:13Measures? Measures? Oh, my, oh, my.
00:16:17Measures on a grave charge like this would require my convening... my convening the tribunal.
00:16:24Exactly.
00:16:26Oh. Oh, my. Now, why do you want to go and create a problem like that?
00:16:33Oh, that's no problem, King. That's a solution. The problem was created when the law was violated.
00:16:40In point of fact by that little round-headed twit, Oblio.
00:16:46Oblio? Oblio? But I know him. Why, he's a nice little boy. I know his parents.
00:16:54Why, it was my understanding that this Oblio was developing into a pretty decent little triangle toss player.
00:17:01Hmm. So I gather. He's also round. Which, as you yourself know, is in direct violation of the law.
00:17:09You may as well face it, my dear king. This Oblio is literally an outlaw.
00:17:15Oh, but that's incredible. Wait a minute. He wears a nicely pointed hat. That should count for something, shouldn't it?
00:17:23No way, my king. We must convene a tribunal, a public tribunal, and so we shall.
00:17:28And then, after all the niceties are looked after, this Oblio will be neatly banished forever.
00:17:37A tribunal? Oh, no. And for Oblio? Why, isn't there any other way?
00:17:44The law is the law, king. You cannot fight that.
00:17:48The law is the law. Hmm. I never looked at it quite like that.
00:17:55Very well. A tribunal it is. But I warn you, count, I won't have the boy railroaded.
00:18:02Railroaded?
00:18:03A turn of phrase, count.
00:18:14Well, the count was having a marvelous time.
00:18:17No matter how rotten he may have been ethically and spiritually, and every other way,
00:18:23as a prosecutor, he was good. And as a stand-up performer, he was even better.
00:18:30The way it all worked out, poor little Oblio never had a chance.
00:18:34And so, noble king and good gentleman of the tribunal,
00:18:38I would only remind you that this law, so cherished a part of our tradition,
00:18:43was not enacted, nor is it being applied, for purposes of base persecution or cruel harassment.
00:18:49Oh, good gracious, no. The law was created to preserve and protect
00:18:54the sanctity, the integrity, the purity of our heretofore unsullied life mode.
00:19:01And so it is that this, this freak, this viper, Oblio,
00:19:07by his very existence here in our realm, only serves to...
00:19:12Oh, my dear, isn't the count absolutely too much?
00:19:16Well, I'm sure he's very good. But all the same, I can't help feeling sorry for little Oblio.
00:19:25After all, he is...
00:19:27Oh, I just don't see how you could say that. That's so, so sentimental.
00:19:31Well, sure, he's little. But the law's still the law. And where would we be, my dear, if...
00:19:37But to just sit here while those old men complacently let the little...
00:19:42Listen, neither one of us was born yesterday. And we both know if we let one of Oblio's kind stay,
00:19:50Oh, before long the whole village will be crawling with...
00:19:54Psst, psst, my dear count, isn't there some way or other a little Oblio could just sort of, uh, stick around?
00:20:03I mean, if he promised to keep his hat on all the time and didn't ever, uh...
00:20:07In this stead, my king, the law is most explicit. We all agree that there has been a violation of law.
00:20:13The violator is right here in our midst. We can see that. That is, as the fellow says, beyond question.
00:20:20Would it help if I promised to never, ever play triangle toss again?
00:20:24I mean, if that's what you're mad about, Count, I could...
00:20:27No, gentlemen. The only question remaining is one of penalty.
00:20:32Here again, the law is crystal clear for such a grave breach.
00:20:37Banishment. That is the order of the day.
00:20:40Yeah, the Count's really pulling the chain on that weird little Oblio.
00:20:45Oh, how can you joke about such a thing? I think a terrible thing's happening.
00:20:50And Oblio's such a lovely little boy.
00:20:52Yeah.
00:20:53You know, he's polite, and he's well-mannered, and...
00:20:55He may be, but would you want your daughter to marry...
00:20:59Oh, you're baiting me. You're deliberately baiting me. I will not be subject.
00:21:03Gentlemen, it remains beyond question that Oblio, by his mere rounded existence,
00:21:09stands in violation of the law. Here, our duty is clear.
00:21:13But we would ill be serving the law to overlook an entirely new facet of the case.
00:21:20In point of fact, Oblio was both aided and abetted by his flea-bitten canine.
00:21:27Hey, please. Don't do anything to Arrow.
00:21:31Gentlemen, I charge this dog, Arrow, with criminal conspiracy.
00:21:38Honest. Arrow's innocent. I did it all myself. I did it. Arrow wasn't even...
00:21:43He is as guilty as Oblio himself. But what's more repellent about him? He is a disgrace to everything. Point it.
00:21:52No, gentlemen. This Arrow is not only a conspirator. He is also a traitor. And he too must be banished.
00:22:01Hey.
00:22:02How they going?
00:22:03Not bad.
00:22:04Say, what's the latest?
00:22:05Oh, you know.
00:22:06Wild trial, huh?
00:22:07Well, if you've seen one, you...
00:22:08What about this conspiracy business with Sparrow?
00:22:10Arrow.
00:22:11Right.
00:22:12It could be a toughie.
00:22:13No, you really think so?
00:22:14Conspiracy's no laughing matter.
00:22:15Hard way to go, is it?
00:22:16Could be for someone like Arrow.
00:22:17You know, he doesn't look like the conspiratorial type, though.
00:22:20He's got a record as long as his tail.
00:22:22That long, huh?
00:22:23Yeah.
00:22:24Chasing.
00:22:25Night barking.
00:22:26They'll throw the book at him.
00:22:27Adios Arrow.
00:22:28That's it.
00:22:29And so, it is my deeply unpleasant task to declare that this tribunal finds the boy Oblio guilty
00:22:39of living within our midst without a point.
00:22:43For this grave violation of law, he is from this day forward banished to the pointless forest.
00:22:53I might just parenthetically add, as our good count so aptly put it, the law is the law.
00:23:04And as all of you know, without the law, why there would be no lawyers.
00:23:10And without lawyers, well, it just goes on and on.
00:23:16Deal with the dog, my lord.
00:23:18Oh, yes.
00:23:19The dog.
00:23:20Well, Arrow, I must send you over too, boy.
00:23:27Involuntary conspiracy.
00:23:29Take them away.
00:23:31Now, dear, I know how you hate to wear undershirts.
00:23:44But we don't know what the weather will be like.
00:23:46And this is a dangerous time of year for cold, so...
00:23:49Sure, Mom.
00:23:50Great.
00:23:51I'll wear them.
00:23:52So will they out.
00:23:54Don't cry, Mom.
00:23:55Well, I just don't want you to take a chill, little Oblio.
00:23:58It's just about time, dear.
00:24:00You all set up?
00:24:05Now, son, I hope you realize.
00:24:07I mean, I hope you understand how distressing this is for your mother and me.
00:24:12I just wish there were some way, uh...
00:24:14Don't get me wrong.
00:24:15I believe in obeying the law and everything.
00:24:17Anything else would be anarchy.
00:24:19But still, I...
00:24:20I wish there were some way this particular law could be, uh...
00:24:25Sure, Dad.
00:24:26I understand.
00:24:27Well, I just wanted you to know this, Oblio.
00:24:29Good luck, Oblio.
00:24:31Good luck, Arrow.
00:24:33And, uh, don't blame the king too much, son.
00:24:36He just did what he had to be running.
00:24:38Well, after all, it's his job.
00:24:41Frankly, I...
00:24:43I wish there never was such a law in the first place.
00:24:46And now that it's been used, it seems, uh...
00:24:49Well, it really seems unfair.
00:24:51How come nobody ever did anything about it before, Dad?
00:24:54Oh, it...
00:24:55It, uh...
00:24:56Just never came up before, son.
00:24:58Oblio?
00:24:59Uh...
00:25:00Here, Oblio.
00:25:01Here's a candy bar for you.
00:25:03Uh...
00:25:04For the road.
00:25:05Gee.
00:25:06Thanks, Mr. Candyman.
00:25:07And...
00:25:08And this...
00:25:09This is for, uh...
00:25:10Arrow.
00:25:11Hang in there, Oblio.
00:25:12Say news, Ob.
00:25:13They seen you, Oblio.
00:25:14Oblio, man.
00:25:15Here's a little something for you.
00:25:16Just in case you need some change.
00:25:17You know, you can never tell when you might need a couple of bucks to, uh...
00:25:19Well, anyway, uh...
00:25:20Thanks, Dad.
00:25:21Uh...
00:25:22Take good care of yourself, dear little Oblio.
00:25:23Uh...
00:25:24And eat well.
00:25:25And write to us when you can.
00:25:26I mean, it doesn't have to be anything wrong.
00:25:28Uh...
00:25:29Just a card to say you're fine.
00:25:30Uh...
00:25:31Will you do that for your poor mommy, Oblio?
00:25:32Sure, Mom.
00:25:33Don't worry.
00:25:34We'll be okay.
00:25:35Right, Arrow?
00:25:36Come on, boy.
00:25:37Let's go.
00:25:38Let's go.
00:25:39Go get him, Oblio.
00:25:40Stay in there, Piledrior.
00:25:41Let's go.
00:25:42Let's go.
00:25:43Hey, girl.
00:25:44Let's go.
00:25:45Let's go.
00:25:46Let's go.
00:25:47Let's go.
00:25:48Go get him, Oblio.
00:25:49Stay in there, Piledrior.
00:25:50Now you're going to get him.
00:25:52I'm going to get him, Oblio.
00:25:53I'm going to get him.
00:25:55Never mind.
00:25:56Uh...
00:25:57Stay in there, pile driver.
00:26:00No straight hope you got it, Wyatt.
00:26:02Good luck, kid.
00:26:04Goodbye, Oblio.
00:26:06Goodbye, son.
00:26:09Goodbye, my little baby.
00:26:12Goodbye, everybody.
00:26:15Goodbye.
00:26:16Come on, Errol, let's go.
00:26:23Sit beside the breakfast table
00:26:27Think about your troubles
00:26:29Pour yourself a cup of tea
00:26:33And think about the bubbles
00:26:35You can take your teardrops
00:26:39And drop them in a teacup
00:26:41Take them down to the riverside
00:26:46And throw them over the east side
00:26:49To be swept up by a current
00:26:51Then take them to the ocean
00:26:55To be eaten by some fishes
00:26:57Who were eaten by some fishes
00:27:01And swallowed by a whale
00:27:04Who grew so old
00:27:07He decomposed
00:27:12He died and left his body
00:27:24To the bottom of the ocean
00:27:27Now everybody knows
00:27:30That when a body decomposes
00:27:32The basic elements
00:27:36Are given back to the ocean
00:27:39And the sea does what it oughta
00:27:41As soon as salty water
00:27:44As soon as salty water
00:27:47Not too good for drinking
00:27:50Cause it tastes just like a teardrop
00:27:53And it comes out from a faucet
00:28:01Pours into a teapot
00:28:03Which is just about to bubble
00:28:06Now
00:28:08Think about your troubles
00:28:13Now you tell me
00:28:31Is this a story
00:28:33Or is this a story
00:28:34Yeah, Dad, sure
00:28:36It's an okay story
00:28:37It's sort of...
00:28:38Okay?
00:28:39Are you kidding me?
00:28:41Just okay?
00:28:42Come on, it's more than...
00:28:44Oh, it's good
00:28:44It's...
00:28:45Now what about the count?
00:28:47Eh?
00:28:48Talk about your oppressive villains
00:28:50I like the kid Oblio
00:28:51And his dog
00:28:53I think he's a great looking dog
00:28:55He reminds me of...
00:28:56Oh, yeah
00:28:57He's a great looking
00:28:59Oh, sure
00:29:00I get it
00:29:01Youth imagination
00:29:02The view from the mind's eye
00:29:04You've got a creative little head
00:29:06On your shoulders there, son
00:29:08Huh?
00:29:10I'll bet you can just picture
00:29:12This little ogly on his dog
00:29:13Right now
00:29:14On and on they went
00:29:19After a while
00:29:21They even stopped looking back
00:29:22The village having long since
00:29:24Faded in the distance
00:29:25And the truth of the matter is
00:29:28They were really a lot more excited
00:29:30About what lay ahead of them
00:29:31Than what they had left behind
00:29:33And who wouldn't be
00:29:35No one had ever been to the pointless forest
00:29:38Yet now
00:29:40Oblio and Arrow were going
00:29:42Hey Arrow
00:29:43You think there'll be monsters?
00:29:46I'd be just as happy
00:29:47If there weren't any monsters
00:29:48But either way
00:29:50No matter what happens
00:29:51We've got to stick close together
00:29:52Because we're really a team now
00:29:54Hey, you know what I hope?
00:29:56I hope
00:29:57Oops
00:29:58Arrow
00:29:59Arrow
00:30:00Can this be the pointless forest?
00:30:03How can it be?
00:30:05It's gotta be
00:30:06But if it is
00:30:08How come everything's got a point?
00:30:10The leaves are pointed
00:30:12The branches and twigs are too
00:30:13Everything
00:30:14Well, this is it Arrow
00:30:20This is the beginning of the place
00:30:22We were banished to
00:30:23There's just one thing
00:30:25I don't understand
00:30:26How are we supposed to get through this stuff
00:30:29To get in there?
00:30:30It's so thick
00:30:31It's like a jungle
00:30:32Good boy Arrow
00:30:38Good boy
00:30:39Now just follow me
00:30:40No, I'll follow you
00:30:42No, we'll go together
00:30:43That's a plan
00:30:45We'll go together
00:30:45And whatever you do
00:30:47Don't leave me Arrow
00:30:48Oblio and Arrow
00:30:52Had just barely set out
00:30:54On the road
00:30:55Into the pointless forest
00:30:56When all of a sudden
00:30:58Arrow, look
00:31:02A man
00:31:03A pointed man
00:31:04Excuse me sir
00:31:06We thought this was
00:31:08The pointless forest
00:31:09Quite right my boy
00:31:11Well noted
00:31:12This is the place indeed
00:31:13By name
00:31:14The pointless forest
00:31:16But what is a pointed man
00:31:18Doing in the pointless forest
00:31:19Listen to the lad
00:31:20Me pointed?
00:31:21That's too funny
00:31:22You know, he's funny
00:31:24Me, a pointed man
00:31:25This youth amuses me
00:31:26But sir
00:31:27You're pointing right now
00:31:28More than any
00:31:29My boy
00:31:30I'm not the pointed man
00:31:31You think I am
00:31:32I can point in every direction
00:31:33Sure
00:31:33Any fool can do the same
00:31:35I'll point in every direction
00:31:36Is the same as no point at all
00:31:38Would you argue the point?
00:31:39I would
00:31:40Not on a bet
00:31:40It never answered my mind
00:31:43Suddenly Oblio and Arrow
00:31:51Were all alone
00:31:52In the pointless forest
00:31:54At first
00:31:55Everything seemed
00:31:56Quiet peaceful
00:31:57Oblio thought about
00:32:00The pointed man
00:32:01And wondered what his friends
00:32:03In the village
00:32:03Would have said
00:32:04If only they knew
00:32:06That he had seen
00:32:07And talked to
00:32:08Such a rare person
00:32:09Then Oblio noticed
00:32:11How quiet it was
00:32:12Arrow noticed too
00:32:15It was very quiet
00:32:18Then little by little
00:32:20Oblio began to feel lonely
00:32:23You know, Arrow
00:32:24I was just thinking
00:32:26I mean about that pointed man
00:32:28I don't know
00:32:30I think there's something
00:32:31A little funny about that man
00:32:33I mean he's pointed
00:32:36Heck, he's always pointing
00:32:38Then he says he isn't
00:32:40A Arrow
00:32:41Hey Arrow
00:32:42I think I'm scared
00:32:44Hey
00:32:47Now what do you want
00:32:48To go and growl
00:32:49Like that for?
00:32:50Especially when
00:32:51I told you I
00:32:52What is it, boy?
00:32:54Huh?
00:32:56Mm-hmm
00:32:56Wow
00:32:59Giant bees
00:33:01Run, Arrow
00:33:03Run for your life
00:33:04Meow
00:33:22Arrow
00:33:22What do we do?
00:33:23Meow
00:33:25Meow
00:33:26Meow
00:33:27Meow
00:33:29Meow
00:33:30Meow
00:33:31Meow
00:33:32Meow
00:33:34Meow
00:33:34Meow
00:33:35Meow
00:33:35Ow
00:33:36Ow
00:33:36Meow
00:33:37Ow
00:33:37Meow
00:33:38Meow
00:33:38Help
00:33:38Saaafe
00:33:40What was that?
00:33:41I believe it was E-flat
00:33:43Double style
00:33:44Extra fortissimo
00:33:45Don't you know it?
00:33:46Huh?
00:33:46He he he he
00:33:48Say, what's happening with you boys?
00:33:50Don't you know it?
00:33:51Huh?
00:33:53Say, what's happening with you boys?
00:33:56You been goofing with the bees?
00:33:58Gosh, who are you?
00:34:00It's me, the rock man.
00:34:03I never saw a rock man before.
00:34:05Well, us stone folks are everywhere.
00:34:08Just open your eyes and look around you.
00:34:10You mean there are more of you?
00:34:12Naturally, baby.
00:34:13There's a whole family of us rock folk.
00:34:17Will, I was wondering if this is still the pointless forest.
00:34:20Listen, Jack, there ain't nothing pointless about this gig.
00:34:24Just look around yourself.
00:34:26The birds singing sweet love songs to the trees
00:34:30and squirrel doing crazy takes all over the place.
00:34:34Mother Nature, she's watching over the whole scene
00:34:37and dig me, taking it all in.
00:34:41Yeah, but...
00:34:42It's the here and now that I'm talking about.
00:34:45The smell of sweet life in the air.
00:34:47It's the warm feel of the sun
00:34:50and the beat of the music.
00:34:53Just digging yourself.
00:34:55But I can't see the...
00:34:56Well, you see what you want to see.
00:34:58Tell me, did you ever see, uh, dinosaur?
00:35:01No.
00:35:02Well, uh, did you ever see a pterodactyl?
00:35:05No.
00:35:05Well, did you ever want to see a pterodactyl?
00:35:08I guess not.
00:35:09Well, that's it.
00:35:10You see what you want to see.
00:35:12And you hear what you want to hear.
00:35:14Gosh, Mr. Stone Man.
00:35:15It's, uh, Rock Man, Jim.
00:35:17You gotta keep yourself in a historical perspective.
00:35:20I mean Mr. Rock Man.
00:35:22Well, you see, you're so round and everything.
00:35:25Heh, heh, heh.
00:35:26Come on, boy.
00:35:27Out with it.
00:35:28Don't get yourself all racked up and jammed.
00:35:31You got a question?
00:35:33Lay it on me.
00:35:34But let it out easy.
00:35:36It's just that everything's been happening so fast.
00:35:38We were banished, and then those bees.
00:35:41I can dig it.
00:35:42I can dig it.
00:35:43Look, let me hip you through reality.
00:35:45I'd really rather know if this is still the pointless forest.
00:35:49Heh, heh, heh.
00:35:50Now there you go again.
00:35:52Pointless.
00:35:53That's the central issue of what I'm putting down for you cats.
00:35:56Huh?
00:35:57You gotta open your mind as well as your eyes.
00:36:00But first you gotta get it together.
00:36:02You know, be cool.
00:36:03Dig yourself.
00:36:04Get the message.
00:36:05Now, here's the lick.
00:36:06You don't have to have a point to have a point, dig?
00:36:11Now, I fear you've been getting some negative vibration from someplace.
00:36:16You gotta collect yourself.
00:36:18Be cool.
00:36:19Be steady as a rock.
00:36:21Heh, heh, heh.
00:36:22Steady as a rock?
00:36:24That's right.
00:36:25Being a rock is a very heavy life.
00:36:29Us rock folks are imprevious to heat.
00:36:32We stay cool.
00:36:33We're insusceptible to water.
00:36:35And that's cool, too.
00:36:37But when it rains, isn't it true that even stones...
00:36:40Now, there you go again, you tensing up.
00:36:43Rain?
00:36:43Oh, yeah, sure.
00:36:44Maybe rain turned a tree to a water log.
00:36:47Sometimes rain makes a river lose its flood control.
00:36:51But a rock in the rain is just cool.
00:36:54Very cool.
00:36:55Boy, I never realized that rocks and stones were so...
00:36:58All you gotta do is open your mind along with your eyes.
00:37:03Now, you got a long road, son, so you remember what I say, okay?
00:37:07Oh, I will, Mr. Rockman.
00:37:08I will.
00:37:09Play it easy.
00:37:11And remember, as you make it through this forest, ain't necessary to possess a point to have yourself a point.
00:37:18I'll remember that.
00:37:19Yeah, well, I think I'm gonna take myself a short nod.
00:37:24You all by this way again, just fall in.
00:37:28I'm only a stone's throw.
00:37:31It was awfully nice of Rockman to explain that to us.
00:37:42And I'll tell you something else.
00:37:43I'll bet it's not everybody who gets to talk to Rock, folks.
00:37:46You know, he really wasn't...
00:37:48Ah, my good lad.
00:37:51I've been rolling right along, I see.
00:37:54Arrow, it's the pointed man again.
00:37:56Hello, sir.
00:37:57What's this?
00:37:58Still talking of points, my boy?
00:38:00The youth's obsessed.
00:38:01I'll make a point of noting that.
00:38:02Ah, your point, nicer.
00:38:04I love game.
00:38:05We've just met a man who's made of stone.
00:38:07Ah, yes.
00:38:08Excellent fellow.
00:38:09Splendid, chap.
00:38:10All you gotta do is relax.
00:38:12You gotta open your mind.
00:38:13That's cool.
00:38:16He's a nice man.
00:38:17He knows a lot.
00:38:18And he's generous.
00:38:19He gave you gifts?
00:38:20A little remembrance, maybe?
00:38:21Perhaps a small memento?
00:38:23No, he told me things.
00:38:25He's interesting to talk to.
00:38:26Ah, completely pointless, my boy.
00:38:28In a word, abstract.
00:38:30To put it bluntly, Sonny Bob, pointless.
00:38:32All pointless.
00:38:33That is to say, no point.
00:38:34The big zero, as they say.
00:38:36Yeah.
00:38:39Hey, wait for us, please.
00:38:41Oh, wow.
00:38:42Oh, wow.
00:38:43Oh, wow.
00:38:44Sometimes you never know how really happy you are to see a person
00:38:48until after he's gone.
00:38:50That's pretty much the way Oblio felt
00:38:52when he realized the man who was always pointing
00:38:56had just up and disappeared.
00:38:58Woo!
00:39:04Jim and Errol, that was a close call.
00:39:07You gotta watch your step.
00:39:09That hole could be...
00:39:12Holy cow!
00:39:14There's no bottom to the thing.
00:39:17Errol, you could have been...
00:39:18Oh, Errol.
00:39:21Gosh, Errol.
00:39:24Hello?
00:39:26Hello?
00:39:27Hello?
00:39:30Hello?
00:39:31Hello?
00:39:31No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:39:46Down...
00:39:46To the bottom...
00:39:49Hello?
00:39:51Hello?
00:39:53Hello?
00:39:55Hello?
00:39:55Hello?
00:39:57Hello?
00:39:57Hello?
00:39:58Hello?
00:39:58Is there anybody else here, it's cold and I'm so lonely, alone, is there anybody else
00:40:28here, alone, won't you throw me down the lifeline, I'm so afraid of darkness, and down here
00:40:56it's just like night time, news are all around me,
00:41:26I'm so lonely, alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here, alone,
00:41:33is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here,
00:41:40alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else,
00:41:47alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here, alone, is there anybody else here,
00:41:54the lad persists, a dogged trooper that boy, to say nothing of that boy's dog, they pursue in
00:42:03pointless pursuit, their pursuit is pointless, good boy arrow, you found him, hi sir, we've been
00:42:12looking all over for you, what a pleasure, what a splendid surprise, thought you might be holed up
00:42:19somewhere, we were trying to catch up with you, and then we found this gigantic hole, it was big and dark
00:42:26and scary, and frankly, quite pointless, no, we learned a lot, I know arrow did, and so did I, old arrow
00:42:35found out that he's really got a, careful sonny, don't get in over your head, it wouldn't do to bury
00:42:40yourself, intellectually, part of fact, it never pays to submerge too deeply, what is it arrow,
00:42:49he must hear something, why of course he hears something, obvious, come on boy, what's wrong,
00:42:57huh, what is it arrow, it seems like he's trying to, gone again, hey arrow, hey wait a minute boy,
00:43:09arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow, arrow
00:43:39Arrow, why did you have to go on?
00:43:44Hey, Arrow, that sounds like singing.
00:43:52That is singing.
00:44:09That is singing.
00:44:12That is singing.
00:44:14I am singing.
00:44:19I am singing.
00:44:23I am singing.
00:44:29Well, look at them.
00:44:31Boy, they're really nice.
00:44:33I have to look at them.
00:44:55Wow!
00:44:56Look at them.
00:44:57Boy, they're really having fun.
00:45:02Arrow! Come back, Arrow!
00:45:14Hey, come on, Arrow. Don't do that. Don't scare the ladies.
00:45:17Sorry if we frightened you.
00:45:19He didn't mean anything by it, really.
00:45:22We were just watching you dance.
00:45:24It looked great.
00:45:27Excuse me, but who are you, ladies?
00:45:37Ah!
00:45:39Hey, ladies!
00:45:41Wait! Wait a minute!
00:45:50I really don't understand this.
00:45:57Oh, you. I'm sorry. I didn't know...
00:46:07Oh, you. I'm sorry. I didn't...
00:46:17Huh?
00:46:18Oh, you.
00:46:20I'm sorry, I didn't understand.
00:46:21How's that?
00:46:22Out with it, boy.
00:46:23Get it off your chest.
00:46:24The ladies.
00:46:26Those three fat ladies.
00:46:28The way they danced and played and...
00:46:29Ah, yes. Quite pointless.
00:46:31Well, wouldn't you say?
00:46:33Fat.
00:46:33Round.
00:46:33Pointless.
00:46:34Get it?
00:46:35Oh, no.
00:46:36They do have a point.
00:46:38It's laughter and merriment and making each other happy.
00:46:43Oh, really?
00:46:44That's an interesting misconception.
00:46:46But then I'm sure you'll agree.
00:46:59Hey, you.
00:47:00Are you kidding?
00:47:01For crying out loud, will you get out of there?
00:47:04Not there either.
00:47:05For the love of Morris, what are you trying to do?
00:47:07You're trying to destroy me?
00:47:09Will you back off?
00:47:11What is this?
00:47:12Will you stop fooling with that mutt and get away from those leaves?
00:47:15You pathetic nincombeep.
00:47:17I'm terribly sorry, sir.
00:47:19I didn't see you, and I didn't realize...
00:47:21All right, all right.
00:47:22All right already.
00:47:23As it happens, those are Sunday in the sunset leaves.
00:47:27A golden veneer and very rare.
00:47:29And you look like you were just gonna plow right...
00:47:31Gosh, I'm sorry.
00:47:33I never...
00:47:33You know, leaves like that don't just grow on trees or something.
00:47:37I really am sorry.
00:47:38We thought we were just in the regular pointless forest.
00:47:41This is still the pointless forest, isn't it?
00:47:44Pointless?
00:47:45Pointless?
00:47:46Just look at those leaves.
00:47:47Each one more pointed than the last.
00:47:49I tell you, this is the most pointed collection of...
00:47:51Then you're a collector.
00:47:53Golly, a leaf collector.
00:47:55A collector?
00:47:56What, are you joking or something?
00:47:58Whoever heard of a grown man going around collecting leaves?
00:48:01Oh, that's weird.
00:48:02What am I supposed to do?
00:48:03Put him in a scrapbook?
00:48:04Well, I just thought...
00:48:05No, you didn't think.
00:48:07We're in business here.
00:48:08Business!
00:48:09This isn't some game we're playing, young man.
00:48:12This is the real thing, and we gotta move...
00:48:14Jiminy, the leaf business.
00:48:16I didn't know people sold leaves.
00:48:18Well, I always thought...
00:48:19You thought.
00:48:20You thought.
00:48:21Ha-ha.
00:48:22Yeah.
00:48:22And while you're thinking, I'm losing time.
00:48:24Besides, I will do all the thinking around here.
00:48:27Gosh, sir.
00:48:28I...
00:48:29Listen, I can't talk now, young man.
00:48:30It's go for broke time from here on in.
00:48:32This is the time of year we put together our whole fall line.
00:48:36I'm afraid I don't know what a fall line is.
00:48:38It's the magic of the sorcerer...
00:48:40...and the excitement of the artist at the moment of creation.
00:48:43It's when we turn green leaves into greenbacks.
00:48:46When the gold on those trees becomes gold in our pockets.
00:48:50You mean you're gathering all of these leaves for...
00:48:53Gathering?
00:48:53Gathering?
00:48:54Ha-ha.
00:48:55I'm not a gatherer, Sonny.
00:48:56I'm a manufacturer.
00:48:58And when you're in the manufacturing game, timing is everything.
00:49:01You make it or break it on timing.
00:49:03Sure, design counts.
00:49:05Quality counts.
00:49:06Maximizing total production potential, that counts.
00:49:08They all count.
00:49:10But without good old timing, it's so long, Charlie.
00:49:13But with leaves, how do you know if...
00:49:15Take the fall season.
00:49:16If I brought it out in July, it's forget it.
00:49:19It's a disaster.
00:49:20Timing!
00:49:21It's all timing!
00:49:22Ha-ha.
00:49:22All right, let me ask you something.
00:49:24Anything you want.
00:49:25Ah, you're interested.
00:49:27I like that.
00:49:28And you're sharp.
00:49:29I need people who are sharp.
00:49:30Sure, I can get help.
00:49:31But good help, that's something else again.
00:49:33Question.
00:49:34Is the world ready for a tweed leaf?
00:49:36Stop and think.
00:49:37To tell you the truth, I just don't know.
00:49:40I like that you're honest.
00:49:42Yes, timing and honesty, that's the name of the game.
00:49:44All right, let's face it.
00:49:45This is a business, just like any other business.
00:49:47Anyone can learn a business, right?
00:49:49But honesty, ah-ah-ah, you either got it, ha-ha, or you ain't got it.
00:49:54Why are you frowning?
00:49:55What's bothering you?
00:49:56Excuse me, sir, but don't leaves just make themselves naturally without any...
00:50:01Oh, my boy, you got a lot to learn.
00:50:04Tell me, what nationality are you?
00:50:05Well, sir, I'm from the pointed village.
00:50:08That's funny, you don't look pointed.
00:50:10As it works out, I'm not.
00:50:12But my parents are.
00:50:13It's all right, don't give it a second thought, my boy.
00:50:15I don't care what a man's faith, creed, or color is.
00:50:18The only thing that matters to me is whether or not he can produce.
00:50:20Well, what do you say?
00:50:21About what?
00:50:22Are you in or not?
00:50:24I'm offering you a chance to get into the leaf game.
00:50:26But what can I do?
00:50:27Naturally, you'll have to start on the forest floor and work your way up.
00:50:31And I'll tell you one thing, I don't ever want to see you or that clown of a dog of yours standing around on the product.
00:50:37Oh, we wouldn't.
00:50:38You can be sure of that.
00:50:39Great opportunity for you, my boy.
00:50:41Can open doors for you, big doors.
00:50:43Seasonal?
00:50:44Yes, we're seasonal.
00:50:45Summer, winter, spring, fall.
00:50:47You and your dog will work like dogs.
00:50:49Rest?
00:50:50Ha-ha!
00:50:51You'll rest during the fifth season.
00:50:53And there isn't any fifth season.
00:50:55But there are rewards.
00:50:56It's exciting, challenging work manufacturing leaves.
00:50:59But that's just it, sir.
00:51:01I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I don't see how Arrow and I could...
00:51:05It's the simplest thing in the world, my boy.
00:51:07You just plant your roots right here with me, and by next season, you'll...
00:51:11But we don't have any roots to plant.
00:51:13We aren't...
00:51:14No roots?
00:51:15No roots!
00:51:16Oh, well, that just about tears it, doesn't it?
00:51:19Oh, it's too bad, too.
00:51:20You could have been up there with the best of them, kid.
00:51:24Sunday in the sunset, leaf of gold, you name it, you could have had everything.
00:51:29And together we would have been unstoppable.
00:51:31We could have given them those tweed leaves.
00:51:33Oh, it would have been beautiful, beautiful.
00:51:36Boy, it sure sounds like it could have been, but something's kind of confusing me.
00:51:41Well, you just name it, son.
00:51:42You can't get answers in this world if you don't ask questions.
00:51:46It's just that.
00:51:47I know there's a point to every leaf, but what's the point to all the leaves, your leaves?
00:51:53That confuses you, doesn't it?
00:51:55Well, all of mankind is confused.
00:51:58You work, you struggle, you fight to survive.
00:52:02Little by little, you make something, you get ahead,
00:52:04and then one day you look, you see you've got something.
00:52:07And I mean really something.
00:52:09But what's the...
00:52:10Can't talk now, young man.
00:52:11Got a time problem that won't quit.
00:52:14Yes, timing.
00:52:15Ha, ha.
00:52:16Timing, that's the name of the game.
00:52:24No, Errol, let's go around.
00:52:26Who knows?
00:52:27This could belong to the leaf man, too.
00:52:29And you know how he is about stepping on his product.
00:52:33That's quite right, my boy.
00:52:34Watch your step.
00:52:35Whatever you do, don't bring a leaf to grief.
00:52:37It's branch, my blanch.
00:52:39Worse yet, it's trunk, my goker, plonk.
00:52:41Oh, Mr. Planted Man, you should have been with us.
00:52:44We met a very important businessman.
00:52:46Was he out raking leaves, perhaps?
00:52:48This brilliant industrialist.
00:52:50This extraordinary tycoon.
00:52:52Ho, ho, ho.
00:52:53Hee, hee, hee.
00:52:53My good lad, your manufacturer is a bust.
00:52:57His product is so ununique.
00:52:59Has to be completely pointless.
00:53:01Oh, no.
00:53:02He's a very industrious industrialist.
00:53:05And he never rests.
00:53:06And he always...
00:53:07My boy, he's spinning his wheels.
00:53:09To put it concisely, his work is futile.
00:53:12In a matter of speaking, it's pointless.
00:53:15That can't be.
00:53:16He told me that...
00:53:17Sunday into sunset.
00:53:19Today tweed.
00:53:20Tomorrow herringbone.
00:53:21The man's a lunatic.
00:53:22He's mad.
00:53:23Clearly a case of dementia.
00:53:25But he was nice.
00:53:27He offered me a chance to...
00:53:28He's a king among men.
00:53:30He's a prince of a fellow.
00:53:31I pass.
00:53:32Parajax.
00:53:32Ace high.
00:53:33In sum, my good lad.
00:53:35Pointless.
00:53:35Pointless.
00:53:36I don't see how you can keep saying that about everybody.
00:53:40I mean, just because you don't...
00:53:41Careful, boy.
00:53:42Don't jump to any rash conclusions.
00:53:45You could land on thin ice.
00:53:46And come up all wet.
00:53:47If you follow the image I've drawn.
00:53:49That could be a chilling experience.
00:53:51Yeah.
00:53:57Little by little, Oblio was learning a good deal about the Pointless Forest and its unusual
00:54:03residents.
00:54:04But unfortunately for him, and Arrow too, his knowledge couldn't possibly help him anticipate
00:54:10what was hovering directly above.
00:54:14No.
00:54:15Oblio had absolutely no way of knowing what was in the wind.
00:54:19What?
00:54:22Huh?
00:54:24Hank!
00:54:26Hank!
00:54:31Gee, Earl.
00:54:33I always thought of a horse as a bunch of tree trumps.
00:54:36But it's a lot more.
00:54:38It's treetops and horizons and hills and meadows.
00:54:42And everything.
00:54:44Man, this is great.
00:54:48You know something?
00:54:50This bird could mean real trouble now.
00:54:53Aw, Dad, they'll be okay.
00:54:55Ah, sure, that's easy for you to say.
00:54:58What can an old bird do?
00:54:59Well, you're not up there hanging on for dear life.
00:55:02Aw, come on, Dad.
00:55:04You know he's not going to let them drop.
00:55:05Well, I don't know that.
00:55:07I don't know that, and you don't either.
00:55:09You don't know how dependable he is.
00:55:11Well, you could very easily.
00:55:13Nah, Dad, not a bird that size.
00:55:16A bird what size?
00:55:17Well, didn't you mention something about a huge bird?
00:55:22I thought you said...
00:55:23You know, when I was a kid, my dad read to me,
00:55:26and I listened, and I listened closely.
00:55:29I didn't go around interpreting things.
00:55:31Yeah, okay, Dad.
00:55:32I didn't jump to conclusions.
00:55:34That's good, Dad.
00:55:35I don't know what's happening to kids nowadays.
00:55:38You give them everything, you offer to read to them.
00:55:40I don't know.
00:55:41I just don't know.
00:55:43And suddenly, the strangest things are happening.
00:55:58I hope it's not the last time, the last time.
00:56:02I had a drink or two an hour or so ago.
00:56:07It made me think of you, and now I know it's not the last time.
00:56:12Last time.
00:56:15Flying high up in the sky, I wonder why I think I'm gonna fall.
00:56:20I think I'm gonna fall.
00:56:21But there I go again, I'm up again, there I go again.
00:56:29I hope this isn't all.
00:56:31Hey, but as long as we're up here, we might as well stay in sweet harmony.
00:56:52La, la, la, la, la, la, la.
00:57:11Flying high up in the sky
00:57:20I wonder why I have to have
00:57:22Another point of view
00:57:25To see me through
00:57:28But now I think I'm gonna fall
00:57:34I hope this isn't all
00:57:40And on top of that
00:57:44I hope it's not the last time
00:57:46La, la, la, la, la, la
00:57:57Back to Earth again, Errol
00:57:59We made it safe and sound
00:58:01As Oblio circled the mammoth egg
00:58:05He was overcome with a strange sensation
00:58:07He looked at the egg very closely
00:58:10Examining it again and again
00:58:13But each time his conclusions
00:58:15Were exactly the same
00:58:17Hey, this is weird
00:58:19Just when I was sort of starting to think
00:58:21That maybe this pointless forest
00:58:22Isn't pointless at all
00:58:24We'd come across something
00:58:25That really is pointless
00:58:26At least it sure looks like it is
00:58:28You see, after each one of his adventures in the forest
00:58:32Oblio always found himself left with a sort of free-floating feeling
00:58:37That there was some sort of point to what he had experienced
00:58:41Even though it had happened in a pointless forest
00:58:44A point
00:58:47Arrow, I was right in the first place
00:58:50Even a thing like this
00:58:52A thing that looks like it's all around
00:58:54Has some sort of point
00:58:56Hi, little fella
00:59:04I mean, big fella
00:59:06Are you all right?
00:59:11Oh, well, I'm Oblio
00:59:12And this guy right here's my dog
00:59:15His name's Arrow
00:59:16What?
00:59:19Are you saying what?
00:59:22Well, what happened is
00:59:23You just got hatched
00:59:25You're born now
00:59:27But don't worry
00:59:28It happens to everybody
00:59:29You'll be okay
00:59:30Where?
00:59:34Is he saying where, Arrow?
00:59:36That's a little harder
00:59:37You see
00:59:38The name of this place is the Pointless Forest
00:59:41That's where we are, all right
00:59:42But I'll tell you something
00:59:44I'm starting to think that instead of being pointless
00:59:47This forest is full of points
00:59:49Take you, for instance
00:59:51Sure, you've got a pointed beak
00:59:53But that's just a point
00:59:55Anyone can see that
00:59:57Your real point
00:59:58Well, that's something else again
01:00:01Why?
01:00:04That's the hardest one to answer
01:00:06That's what I always want to know
01:00:08Why?
01:00:10And that's the question everyone always asks
01:00:13Splendid idea, my boy
01:00:22I'd like mine over easy
01:00:23With a side order of bacon, if you please
01:00:25Very crisp and coffee
01:00:27The old mocha java
01:00:29I had a hunch you'd be serving brunch
01:00:31And perhaps an apricot danish
01:00:34Oh, Mr. Pointed Man
01:00:36I'm glad you're here
01:00:37But how come that nice new bird's mother took him away like that?
01:00:41We were just talking about the why of everything
01:00:43Why this?
01:00:44Why that?
01:00:45And then, just when I was thinking that
01:00:47Now, there you go again
01:00:48You're thinking
01:00:49That's very destructive, my lad
01:00:50Most destructive indeed
01:00:52If a person does enough thinking
01:00:53A certain amount of knowledge is sure to follow
01:00:55The result, Sunnybob
01:00:57Could be a life of misery
01:00:58But I can't help it
01:01:00I haven't been trying to think
01:01:02Things just sort of start popping up in my mind
01:01:05They occur to me out of
01:01:07Thoughts just start popping up into your mind
01:01:09Ideas form without any effort on your part
01:01:11You find that concepts simply conceptualize?
01:01:14Well, yes
01:01:15That's grim
01:01:16It started way back when I met the rock man
01:01:19It's a disaster
01:01:20And it just kept on happening
01:01:22Mayday
01:01:23It's a complete mayday
01:01:25I was hoping maybe you could help me figure out just exactly
01:01:28There's really nothing more that I can do
01:01:30You're out of my hands
01:01:31I tried to help you, boy
01:01:33I tried to show you the pointlessness of it all
01:01:34But you wouldn't listen
01:01:35Sir, I hope you don't think I'm ungrateful
01:01:38You had to go digging around, didn't you?
01:01:41You had to let thoughts slip into your head
01:01:42You're lost, lad, lost
01:01:44The kid blew it
01:01:45Had everything going for him and he blew it
01:01:47The fact is, my boy
01:01:48That is, under the circumstances
01:01:50There's no place in the pointless forest for you
01:01:52But where'll I go?
01:01:54What'll I do?
01:01:55I can't go home again
01:01:56The Count had me banished
01:01:58Ta-ta
01:01:59Jolly bye
01:02:00Ciao, Bucky
01:02:01Ciao
01:02:02Golly, gone again
01:02:04I wonder where he goes when he does that
01:02:07Vanishing point, old man
01:02:09Correct, the vanishing point
01:02:11Just another one of the facilities
01:02:13Well, adieu
01:02:14Fairly well
01:02:15You take care of yourself, you hear?
01:02:17Come home, sir
01:02:18Oblio watched as the pointed man disappeared
01:02:21But unlike all the other times
01:02:24He was not especially overwhelmed by what he saw
01:02:27I think he's really gone this time, Errol
01:02:30Errol?
01:02:32Errol?
01:02:34Here, boy
01:02:34Errol?
01:02:37I hear you, boy
01:02:39Where are you?
01:02:41He's gone
01:02:42Stay where you are, Errol
01:02:46Don't move
01:02:47I'll find you
01:02:48I know I will
01:02:50Good boy, Errol
01:02:52Come on, boy
01:02:53You're all right now
01:02:54Come on, Errol
01:02:56It had been a full day for the two travelers
01:03:04A very full day
01:03:05For Oblio, it had been one adventure after another
01:03:10Of course, it had been pretty adventurous for Errol, too
01:03:14That vanishing point
01:03:17It only made it so I couldn't see
01:03:20It didn't make it so you weren't really there
01:03:22I'm starting to think that the pointed man, nice as he was
01:03:26Was really about the only pointless person we've met in this whole pointless forest
01:03:31Sure, he did an awful lot of talking
01:03:34And it all sounded very fine
01:03:37Almost like the count in a way
01:03:39And after all, what's such a big deal about having a point on your head?
01:03:44Nothing against you, Errol
01:03:45You're great
01:03:46But I sort of think what's in your head is a lot more important
01:03:50Hmm, sure gets dark fast, doesn't it?
01:03:55Ah
01:03:57Are you sleeping?
01:04:07Can you hear me?
01:04:10Do you know if I am by your side?
01:04:14Does it matter if you hear me?
01:04:21When the morning comes, I'll be there by your side
01:04:26And in the morning when I wake up
01:04:32She may be telling me goodbye, la, la, la, la
01:04:39And in the evening if we pray, girl
01:04:43I'm wondering why, yeah, yeah
01:04:46I'm wondering why, yeah, yeah
01:04:49There was a time, we had a time
01:04:56There was a time, we had a time
01:04:58There was a time, there was a time
01:05:02When you were mine
01:05:03We had a time, we had a time
01:05:08We had a time, oh, what a time
01:05:10There was a time, there was a time
01:05:13When you were mine
01:05:15And in the evening if we go out
01:05:21Nighttime will find us at the show
01:05:26La, la, la, la
01:05:27Oh, we may decide to stay inside
01:05:32You never know
01:05:34You never know
01:05:35You never know
01:05:36You never know
01:05:37You never know
01:05:38Are you sleeping?
01:05:50Or can you hear me?
01:05:53Do you know if I am by your side?
01:05:57Does it matter
01:06:01If you hear me
01:06:04When the morning comes
01:06:06I'll be there by your side
01:06:09La, la, la, la, la, la
01:06:13La, la, la, la, la
01:06:15La, la, la, la, la, la
01:06:19La, la, la, la, la
01:06:24Hey, Errol
01:06:26Look
01:06:27La, la, la, la, la
01:06:29La, la, la, la, la
01:06:32La, la, la, la, la
01:06:33La, la, la, la, la
01:06:34Are you sleeping?
01:06:38Or can you hear me?
01:06:41Do you know if I am by your side?
01:06:48But I miss him
01:06:50I miss my Oblio
01:06:52Yeah, he was a great little guy
01:06:55I'm worried about him
01:06:57That little guy
01:06:58Nah, he'll do great out there
01:07:01But he's so young
01:07:02Yeah, but he's sharp
01:07:03He's sharp
01:07:04He's young, but he's sharp
01:07:05Oh, we should have never let them send him away
01:07:07Yeah
01:07:08Well, go tell the count that
01:07:11I mean, it was the law, dear
01:07:12Oh, it's a bad law
01:07:13Well, good law, bad law
01:07:15What difference does it make?
01:07:16It's the law
01:07:17It makes all the difference
01:07:18A good law would have never sent my Oblio away
01:07:21Never
01:07:22Dear, the law is the law
01:07:23Oh, you should have challenged it
01:07:25What?
01:07:26I should have challenged it?
01:07:27We all should have
01:07:28Law?
01:07:29I mean, but the count came right out and said
01:07:32Oh, the count, the count
01:07:33What about my Oblio?
01:07:35Well, look
01:07:36I mean, I'm just one man
01:07:38I, I
01:07:39Oh, we should have all stood up
01:07:40Even the king seemed like he was against the law
01:07:43Well, maybe you're right
01:07:44Maybe you're right
01:07:44Maybe we should have tried
01:07:46Oh, he's so young
01:07:48What, the king?
01:07:49My little Oblio
01:07:50Oblio!
01:07:51Oblio!
01:07:52It's Oblio!
01:07:53Hey, it's Oblio!
01:07:54Come back and come to our town
01:07:55Now, hold our hands with him
01:07:56Hold our town
01:07:56Oblio, Oblio, Oblio
01:07:57Let's come back
01:07:58Welcome home, Oblio
01:08:02Where did you have your back, Oblio?
01:08:05You tell him, oh, break it down for him
01:08:07Come by the shop, Oblio
01:08:08I have some, uh, butterballs for you
01:08:11Rounds, completely round
01:08:13Hello, Oblio
01:08:15Here he is
01:08:17There is Oblio
01:08:18My baby
01:08:20My Oblio
01:08:21Well, hi, son
01:08:23Hi, Oblio
01:08:24On to the palace
01:08:27To the king!
01:08:31Your majesty
01:08:32Your majesty
01:08:33There's a mob at the palace gate
01:08:35Mob?
01:08:36Well, why, that's pretty hard to believe
01:08:38Well, it's true
01:08:39You know what a mob is
01:08:41Shall I call out the palace guard?
01:08:42Well, that does seem a bit excessive, doesn't it?
01:08:45Well, what do you suggest?
01:08:47Send out a pastry tray and let the meat take?
01:08:50Well, that's never worked before
01:08:52Uh, tell me
01:08:54What does your intelligence agency make of it?
01:08:57Nothing yet, nothing
01:08:58They're still trying to infiltrate the crowd
01:09:00But I'll tell you one thing
01:09:02According to my son
01:09:04It's all for that kid
01:09:06That twerpy, round-headed Oblio
01:09:08Oblio?
01:09:10You mean little Oblio, who we, uh...
01:09:12Yes, my son claims he's come back
01:09:15Really?
01:09:17Oblio?
01:09:18Little Oblio is back?
01:09:19This is gravely serious, my dear king
01:09:23Yes, it is
01:09:25You know something, Count?
01:09:27You may have misread the will of the people in that Oblio case
01:09:30An unruly mob, eh?
01:09:33Well, isn't that just the limit?
01:09:36Silence!
01:09:44I demand silence!
01:09:48Can't a man get a little peace and quiet in his own?
01:09:52Say, what are you doing back?
01:09:59This little runt is an outlaw
01:10:01You're an outlaw, child
01:10:03You are banished to the Pointless Forest
01:10:06And I went to the Pointless Forest
01:10:08In fact, I...
01:10:09Nonsense!
01:10:10Sheer, irrevocable nonsense
01:10:13I'll have you in chains for this
01:10:16Arrest this little...
01:10:18Hold it, hold it, Count
01:10:19The boy was saying something
01:10:21Yeah, right on
01:10:24Break it down for him, Obie
01:10:25Yes, uh, uh, right on, Obie
01:10:29Well, sir
01:10:30We did go to the Pointless Forest
01:10:32Arrow and I
01:10:33All through it, in fact
01:10:35All through it, in fact
01:10:35And you know something?
01:10:37It isn't pointless at all
01:10:38It's not?
01:10:40What?
01:10:42What?
01:10:43Not pointless?
01:10:45Madness!
01:10:46That's madness!
01:10:47Sheer madness!
01:10:51Will you be quiet, Count?
01:10:55I want to hear Oblio
01:10:56Now, Oblio
01:10:58Now, Oblio, you were saying
01:11:00Well, the fact is, sir
01:11:01That just about everything we ran into
01:11:04Had a point to it
01:11:05The leaves, the trees, everything
01:11:08Oh, I see, Obie
01:11:12Well, I can't really argue that one with you
01:11:16But, uh, what about yourself, son?
01:11:19Well, sir
01:11:20I figure if everything has a point
01:11:23Then I must have one, too
01:11:25He has a point there!
01:11:27Ha, ha, ha!
01:11:28Villain!
01:11:30Treason!
01:11:31Public naughtiness!
01:11:33I will not stand by
01:11:35While this pointless person
01:11:37Tries to undo
01:11:39The law of the land
01:11:40My dear and loyal friends
01:11:43If he had a point
01:11:46He'd have one!
01:11:50Impossible!
01:11:53And so it was
01:11:54That Oblio and Arrow
01:11:56Returned safely from their travels
01:11:58Only a little older
01:12:00But certainly a good deal wiser
01:12:02As for the pointed village
01:12:05Well, the way things worked out
01:12:07It was a much better place to live
01:12:09After Oblio's return
01:12:11True
01:12:12The people didn't have
01:12:14Their once cherished points
01:12:15Right there on top of their heads
01:12:17But that didn't matter
01:12:19So much anymore
01:12:20People just started assuming
01:12:22That every man
01:12:23Had some kind of a point
01:12:25Whether it shows
01:12:26Or not
01:12:28The end
01:12:32Now that's a story, huh, son?
01:12:35I mean, is that a story, or?
01:12:37Yeah, Dad
01:12:37It was a good story, really
01:12:39Good, good
01:12:40It was great
01:12:42Great story
01:12:43Sure, Dad, it was
01:12:44I mean, it had everything
01:12:45Right there
01:12:46Adventure
01:12:47A little comedy
01:12:48Funny scene or two
01:12:49There was a lesson
01:12:50You caught the lesson, didn't you?
01:12:52Right, Dad, I caught it
01:12:53Well, what do you think it was?
01:12:56Well, just because somebody
01:12:58Doesn't have what other people have
01:12:59Doesn't mean that
01:13:00You know, they have to be
01:13:02Turned out of the kingdom or something
01:13:03Yes
01:13:04Dad?
01:13:06What is it, son?
01:13:08Thanks for reading me the story
01:13:10You're welcome, son
01:13:11Are you sleeping?
01:13:18Can you hear me?
01:13:20Do you know if I am by your side?
01:13:26Does it matter if you hear me?
01:13:32When the morning comes
01:13:34I'll be there by your side
01:13:37And in the morning
01:13:41When I wake up
01:13:43She may be telling me goodbye
01:13:48La, la, la, la
01:13:50And in the evening
01:13:52If we break up
01:13:55I'm wondering why
01:13:57I'm wondering why
01:14:00There was a time
01:14:06We had a time
01:14:07There was a time
01:14:08We had a time
01:14:09There was a time
01:14:12There was a time
01:14:13When you were
01:14:14When you were
