Former Twins GM Thad Levine joined Shan, RJ, and Bobby to evaluate the Texas Rangers’ offensive struggles. He broke down how their elite pitching staff hasn’t been matched by their offensive production, as well as the potential trade value of Jacob deGrom. Levine also provided insight into how MLB front offices decide whether to buy or sell at the trade deadline and shared thoughts on what Chris Young might be considering as it approaches.

00:20take it from our strength so two-parter here which pitcher would have the most return value

00:26for the rangers at the trade deadline and i know they're not going to trade to grom but

00:30considering age and contract and injury history second dummy john what is his value on the trade

00:36market well i think i think so on on the surface i think he is still regarded qualitatively as

00:43if not the best pitcher in the game one of the best pitchers so qualitatively every one of us

00:51who is using you know advanced analytics scouting systems scouts eyes all of those things

00:58triangulate to suggest jacob de grom is one of if not the best qualitative pitcher in the game

01:05now he comes with a few other factors that have to be considered um you know certainly the age

01:11is is a factor certainly as his history recently of injuries is of concern and then so too is the

01:18salary you know that that is that is going to be a factor as teams view him moving forward but i

01:24would say that teams that can weather the contract have to look at him and say he's not only somebody

01:31who can help us get to the playoffs but when in the playoffs he has the ability to not only neutralize

01:36but dominate the best lineups in the game and he would do it pitching game one of a playoff series

01:41that is worth incredible value to teams they're going to have to weigh that against the contract they're

01:47going to have to weigh that against injury risk but they're probably teams out there that would view

01:51that as a very positive game because it will meaningfully enhance their championship odds not

01:59only their ability to get there but their their ability to win a championship and that's what we're
