00:00So Russia wants to ban Shrek. Seriously. No matter how bad things get, there's always one thing you can do to lift your spirits and that is sit down and watch the beloved animated comedy classic, Shrek. Well, not anymore. Not for the Russians.
00:14Apparently, everyone's favorite ogre has found himself in the crosshairs of the Kremlin. He was featured in a presentation by the state Duma as an example of a negative Western character with both physical and personality flaws. Come on, Russia. That's what the whole movie was about.
00:28Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it. We both have layers.
00:37You'd think with the amount of onions present in Russian cuisine, they'd have a little bit more understanding, but...
00:42According to politician Sergei Mironov, characters like Shrek, the Grinch, and Monsters Inc. employee Mike Wazowski are all part of a Western society that's very actively engaged in indoctrinating our children.
00:53Wait a minute. Shrek, Mike Wazowski, the Grinch. Is this a green guy thing?
00:57He accused the West of waging a hybrid war against Russia and warned that governments opposed to Moscow are following the adage,
01:04if you want to defeat the enemy, raise their children. Or, you know, show them Shrek, I guess.
01:09Now, the Grinch, sure, he's not a good guy, especially before his heart grew three sizes that day.
01:14But our sweet, innocent Shrek, he's just trying to live a simple life in his swamp.
01:19He's a recluse, not hurting anybody.
01:21And then, once married to Fiona, he had three children.
01:24Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia.
01:26Which would seem to align with the Kremlin's stated mission of increasing Russia's birth rate.
01:30In fairness, the movies do strongly suggest that a donkey is gonna f*** a dragon.
01:34Which, obviously, goes against traditional family values.
01:37Hey, there's no wrong way to make a family.
01:38Either way, in the grand scale of Russian persecution, the censorship of Shrek is a small development.
01:44Who knows? This might be the straw that breaks the donkey's back.
