00:07Canada's main stock index made modest gains on Monday, supported by strength in commodity-related
00:12stocks, even as concerns over tariffs continued to weigh on investor sentiment.
00:16On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced plans to double tariffs on imported steel and
00:21aluminum, from 25% to 50% starting Wednesday. These new measures build on the initial tariffs
00:28he introduced after taking office in January, intensifying the ongoing global trade conflict.
00:33The TSX finished up over 200 points, while the venture rose 13. On Wall Street, the Dow
00:39added over 30 points, and the Nasdaq gained almost 130.
00:48The highest-gaining TSX stocks of the day included Copernico Metals, up 37%, followed by Vertical
00:54Studios and Appley Therapeutics, both up 33%, trading at $0.02.
01:04The stocks seeing the steepest drop were Algoma Steel Group, down 29% thanks to Donald's
01:09tariff tirade, followed by both Exro Technologies and Else Nutrition, who each lost 25%, trading
01:16at a penny. The latter reported today a 14% drop in revenue.
