We went out into Manchester to ask people about electric bikes and scooters to try and establish whether people viewed them as a convenience or a menace.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts and today I'm out on the
00:03streets of Manchester asking people about e-bikes and e-scooters. We want to know if people think
00:08they should be banned, whether there should be tighter restrictions on them, or whether they
00:11view them as a convenient way to move around that avoids people having to use cars. You know,
00:16things like, especially Uber drivers who have to get from point A to point B and are only paid for
00:20that time, we can kind of see why they're trying to do that at such kind of dangerous speed. So I
00:26think for me, it's less of a thing that the bikes themselves should be banned from being modified
00:30and more one that we need to challenge these broader corporations. I'm in a glass house here
00:35as a kind of cyclist with not a very good kind of control of the road, let's say. I think I'm the
00:41last person to be judging anyone else's use of them. But I really like the electric scooters that
00:47you can rent, like in Brussels and stuff. I've never thought it'd be good here, but then again,
00:52after what's happened with our bikes, maybe actually they just end up in canals, you know,
00:58because apparently we can't have nice things.
