People on the Street: Are Britain’s roads up to standard with the rest of Europe?

A recent survey has found that the majority of motorists believe that the condition of roads in Europe is better than here in the UK.  We wanted to know if people on the streets of Manchester felt the same way.

00:00I'm just about to go down to the streets of Manchester to talk to people about roadworks

00:03and that's because there's been a survey done that find that the majority of Brits think

00:06that roads are better in Europe. So I'm going to ask people their opinions on whether they've

00:10had any positive or negative experience on England's roads.

00:13The state of our roads is just like, it's atrocious, truly. Yeah, I'd use different

00:18words but yeah.

00:19We came in last night, we passed loads of roadworks here as well, so obviously people

00:22are trying to maintain them.

00:23Yeah, potholes are awful, yeah. I feel like in other countries, their governments care

00:29more about their road safety, whereas here it's just, I don't know, it takes time, it

00:34takes a long time for things to get fixed.

00:36I'd say in the Netherlands or in Europe it's much more reliable and it's more like methods

00:40of transport as opposed to England.

00:43My instinct is UK and Ireland are probably quite similar to roads, mainland Europe probably

00:49is better.

00:50Years ago, when they put like graffiti around it, like, I don't know, phallic graffiti,

00:55to like get people to sort it out quicker, so.

00:57Oh see, yeah, no, we should explore that, yeah.
