00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about tourism tax.
00:07Now that might sound like a bit of a foreign concept to some of you.
00:10Basically it means when you go on holiday to a place or when you book a hotel in a place overnight,
00:14you'll be paying a little bit extra on top which will be reinvested into the local area.
00:19But we want to know, are people happy to pay that little bit extra to go towards the local area?
00:23And what would they like to see it spent on?
00:25Exactly, the things that tourists, so public transport, like things that tourists use, public transport, street cleaning.
00:33Yeah, I agree with that sort of thing.
00:35I think it's important that tourists don't just come and, I don't know, run a riot.
00:41Yeah, it's nice to know that you're actually contributing something.
00:44I mean, you pay it when you go abroad, so if it's only like quite a few quid, I don't think people would really notice it too much anyway.
00:50If they're going to put the money towards something, maybe like keeping the trams cheap.
