People and businesses in Leeds are being asked to have their say on the future of development and land use in the district as Leeds City Council launches a consultation to update its Local Plan.

00:00What should Leeds be like in the future?
00:03That's the question a consultation is asking running until the 15th of September
00:08when searching for Leeds Local Plan Commonplace.
00:12If you're a Leeds resident or business owner,
00:14you can share your views on the future of development and land use in the city.
00:19The Leeds Local Plan is a legal framework that will set out Leeds City Council's vision and strategy
00:25for sustainable growth through to the year 2042.
00:28The aim of the long-term plan is to help the council better manage where new homes,
00:33businesses and services are built and ensure the right development happens in the right places.
00:39The plan guides how land is used and developed across the district
00:43and influences planning decisions to ensure any developments meet the needs of the community and the environment.
00:50Opinions are being sought on key issues including homes, schools, workplaces, green spaces,
00:56waste management, carbon reduction and infrastructure.
01:00The Deputy Leader of Leeds City Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Sustainable Development,
01:06Councillor Jonathan Pryor, said that as one of the fastest-growing cities in Europe,
01:11the council must ensure that the right developments and services happen in the right places,
01:16whilst also giving everyone across the entire Leeds district a voice in the planning of our city's future.
01:21adding that the feedback is vital to making Leeds the best city possible.
01:27The draft local plan can be found online and there will be numerous in-person events held across the city
01:32through to the middle of August.
01:34Pudsey, Morley, Otley, Rothwell, Weatherby, Guiseley, Garforth, Armley, Harehills, Bramley,
01:40Morallerton, Headingley and Holbeck will all be hosting the in-person events.
