00:00Satsang with Mooji
00:30It looks quite like a fairy tale here, very different to Delhi
00:49Tucked away in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh, the Kangra Valley
01:00Home to Dharamshala's cricket stadium, one of the highest in the world
01:04Thousands of acres of tea plantations and the fifth checkpoint
01:10Are you tea drinkers?
01:15Melvin loves his tea
01:16I am, mate, yeah
01:17I'm very tea demanding
01:19After 33 days on the road and almost 10,000 kilometres raced so far
01:26Oh my gosh, that's actually the nicest green tea
01:27Really?
01:28Yeah
01:28A chance to take stock
01:31Are you having the same problems that I'm having with my older brother, with your older sister?
01:38What problems?
01:38Well, yeah, I'm just trying to figure out what problems we've had
01:42It's more communication, sometimes I just want things to be clear and communicated
01:46And we're also getting to know each other again in a part for quite a long time
01:51We've had years and years apart, or we've missed 40 years of it
01:54I forgot what a sod he can be
01:56And he's forgotten what a little sod I am
02:01Yeah
02:01But now, five legs in, I'm thinking, we're okay, that's working
02:05It's great to hear how they're bonding
02:08It can be done, and I feel like we can take that inspiration moving forward
02:13And we're still working on it anyways
02:15Maybe we can't say things yet, but they're coming
02:18They're coming
02:19Hello
02:21How are you?
02:25Three teams have made it to the checkpoint
02:27With only nine and a half hours between them
02:29For the first time, Caroline and Tom have taken the lead
02:34Haven't they done well?
02:37She is going right
02:39We found it really tough, actually
02:41But it was all worth it, saying our name at the top
02:43We actually were really surprised to be first
02:46And then the instant worry of how do we stay here?
02:50I know exactly what you mean
02:52We've all felt it
02:53I mean, we don't have many legs left, you know
02:56Hopefully Finn and Sean that ain't too far behind
02:58Where do we think they are?
03:07Oh, watch up this hill
03:09Left or right?
03:11There's too many turning ends
03:1333 hours behind first place
03:15So not a lot of people are on
03:17He's helping us
03:18Okay, we'll go
03:20You're coming
03:21The final team check in
03:23I must say hello
03:29Hello
03:30Ready?
03:31Please sign in, Overleaf
03:32Oh
03:36Really far behind
03:39Nothing we can do now
03:41It is our first time being last
03:45Which is
03:45Yeah, it's not the best feeling
03:4724 hours behind third
03:49Not nice to look at, is it?
03:53First full leg and injury
03:54Didn't go very well
03:56We've
03:57Well, me especially
03:58I've struggled
03:59I can't deal with
04:01Crowds and noises
04:02And all of that stuff very well
04:04And then when things go wrong
04:05I basically just shut down
04:07Thank you
04:08I'm so gutted
04:13I can't help but be a bit disappointed in myself
04:19I don't know, I always feel like
04:22What I do isn't good enough
04:25And I feel like I need to do more
04:28And improve more
04:31I don't know
04:33I don't know why I'm that way
04:34I just want everyone to be proud of me
04:41And I struggle to be proud of myself
04:45Most of the time
04:46Don't want to just be second in the first leg
04:52And then that's it
04:53That's the highlight
04:54It was fast, you were early
05:115.13am
05:13Good morning
05:14Good morning
05:14Good morning
05:15This is for you
05:16Thank you very much
05:17You ready?
05:18Mm-hmm
05:19Sassangir
05:22All right
05:22Okay, lovely
05:23Thank you very much
05:24Thank you
05:25Thank you
05:25Sassangir
05:27Oh my god
05:29It's quite a long way
05:311,900 kilometres to the south
05:35On the southern tip of Gujarat
05:38The sixth checkpoint
05:40Sassangir
05:42The village is the gateway to the Ghir National Park
05:49Dry, dry, deciduous forest
05:51With large stretches of grassland
05:54And the last remaining habitat for the endangered Asiatic lion
05:58It's quite a long way
06:04I'm afraid all I want to do is race, race, race
06:07And increase our lead
06:09Obviously we're first
06:10We want to hold on to it
06:11But my main aim is to experience what India has to offer
06:14Because we're never going to be here again
06:17I don't want to just race, race, race
06:19Right
06:20To reach the sixth checkpoint
06:24The teams will need to navigate four of India's western states
06:28Including the country's largest, Rajasthan
06:33Coined the land of kings
06:37After the Rajput and Mughal dynasties
06:40Who left a legacy of magnificent forts and palaces
06:45Teams could choose a more rural route
06:50Which weaves through the dry expanse of the great Indian desert
06:54Or they could go via Rajasthan's brightly painted cities
07:00Well connected
07:02To assist their many visiting tourists
07:05I think this is a once in a lifetime going through a desert
07:11It's a completely different landscape
07:13I haven't seen many deserts
07:15It's very rural
07:16Now I'm happy to avoid the major cities
07:18And have a calmer way of getting there as quickly as possible
07:22I like the idea
07:23Okay
07:24I think we make a very strong team
07:27You're very determined
07:29You're very keen to push on and move forward
07:32Whereas I'm probably a bit more laid back
07:34I'll teach you to slow down a little bit and appreciate your stuff
07:37Can you call us a taxi to the bus station?
07:40As we're getting towards the end of the race
07:43The decisions are harder
07:45I'm trusting Thomas I suppose
07:47Come on, let's go
07:50Now he's experiencing more of life
07:53I just love being with him
07:55I love his enthusiasm
07:56I love his carefree attitude
07:58And want a little bit of that for myself
08:02To see life more through his eyes
08:05We're going
08:06Tom's gamble
08:08To venture into less explored territory
08:11Heading south through the Thar desert
08:14We're trying to go to Jodhpur
08:16We need a nice sleeve of us
08:18We'll take that one
08:192,800
08:20What time do we arrive?
08:217,500
08:22Thomas has been really throwing himself into it today
08:25He's finding out all we need to know
08:27We're going to get Jodhpur there
08:29I know, I know
08:30It's really good
08:31Halfway to the checkpoint
08:32We would be covering the biggest distance now
08:35That's incredible
08:36That's superb
08:37Wow
08:38As Carline and Tom resume their race
08:41Look at this view
08:46It's not even real
08:48It would be nice being out here in the mountains
08:5233 hours behind them
08:54Finn and Sean Ed remain paused in McLeod Gange
08:58When I'm crying
09:00Because I definitely will cry again
09:01I know
09:02As much as I probably want to be babied
09:04And be like, oh, it's okay
09:05Tell me to just get a grip
09:08Oh, that's a bit harsh
09:09I can't really do that
09:10I do need to wise up
09:12I'm a big girl
09:13I think it would be nice
09:14If we can now both work together
09:16It's fine for her to get overwhelmed
09:18But maybe if she can kind of push through it
09:20And make decisions with me
09:21I think we'll get a lot further
09:23There's been a lot of emotions in India, I think
09:26But we are still here
09:28And I think we are getting better
09:30If you told me last year
09:32In one year you'll be every day
09:33Not knowing where we're actually going to sleep tonight
09:35That's something I would have thought I would struggle with
09:38But I actually really am enjoying that
09:40You're learning new things about yourself
09:42With this
09:43It's going to be a challenge to catch up
09:45But it's not impossible
09:47I think we can do it
09:48And I think we will do it
09:49We've learned anything can happen
09:51Oh my shit
09:53Oh?
09:55Hello
09:57Are they even real?
09:58Can I try food?
09:59Oh
10:00Oh
10:01Was that far?
10:08Manic, isn't it?
10:09Manic, yeah
10:10It's manic
10:11Hi
10:13Second to depart
10:15Brian and Melvin have made it to Amritsar in Punjab
10:19I do like the idea of going through the desert if I'm honest
10:23It's something I've always fancied
10:24I think we'll be in the middle of nowhere
10:26But as a crow flyers that's pretty straight forward
10:28Correct
10:29I think it'd be great
10:30We would like to get to Jodhpur tonight
10:33It's a better fly in the 8pm
10:35Okay
10:36Of 15 and a pop or something
10:37Okay
10:38That gets us a long way, Brian
10:40With their first connection south towards the great Indian desert booked
10:46There's time for the brothers to explore
10:49How beautiful is that?
10:50It's lovely, isn't it?
10:54Founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru Ram Dass
10:59Amritsar is the holiest city in Sikhism
11:04Its most sacred shrine
11:06The Golden Temple
11:08Got to wear a headscarf
11:12There they are
11:13Should do it
11:14Just look like a
11:15Twat
11:16Yeah
11:19I mean it's quite an impressive building, isn't it?
11:22Following the tradition of selfless service known as Seva
11:26The temple provides 100,000 free meals a day
11:30Giving Amritsar the accolade
11:32The city where no one goes hungry
11:34I'm desperately in need of the lumel
11:39I've got stomach cramps
11:41If I can find a sit-down toilet
11:43You think it might be alright?
11:44And then my stomach might go down
11:46It's in spasms at the moment
11:49Okay, let's go then
11:50Alright?
11:51Yeah
11:52There is a part of me saying
11:55I don't go on a bus today, Brian
11:57Stay in a hotel overnight
11:59If we do that
12:00We're going to be 24 hours behind everybody else
12:03We can't afford to do it
12:05We'll battle on
12:06We'll be bottom of the pile if we miss
12:09If I miss this bus
12:19We just come from the mountains
12:20Yes
12:21And here it's so flat already
12:22Yeah
12:23We're going so fast
12:24Leaving the checkpoint four hours after Brian and Melvin
12:28Elizabeth and Letitia are also arriving in Amritsar
12:31Careful, don't do that
12:33No, it's better
12:34After two back-to-back buses
12:37They're searching for their third connection
12:39To drive them south to the pilgrimage town of Pushkar
12:44Hello, we have a bus ticket
12:46Bus need
12:47Okay
12:48Okay
12:50Is this it?
12:51Must be
12:52I don't know who you need to ask
12:57We should go and say hi
12:59So, shall I make them jump?
13:00No
13:01No, no, no, wait, wait
13:02There's the girls
13:03Heyo, guys
13:04Are you all right?
13:05What's somebody else?
13:06How do you do?
13:07We've had the day here
13:08Did you go to the temple?
13:09Yeah
13:10It's a beautiful place
13:11Oh
13:12But he ain't feeling very well, sir
13:13No, I've got the jelly belly
13:14Oh, even me
13:15Oh, jelly belly
13:16They're going into the desert then, I presume
13:18Oh, no, no, no, not desert
13:19Oh, we're going to Jodhpur
13:20Oh, Jodhpur
13:21It's a competition
13:22We've just done
13:23Oh, is that it?
13:25Right, we've got to go
13:26Right
13:27Okay, good luck
13:28Good luck, guys
13:29I wasn't even expecting to see anybody
13:31We close it up
13:32Kind of
13:33It's good seeing someone ahead
13:35Rather than someone behind
13:37They're very smart the girls are
13:38They're smart cookies
13:40We're in competition mode
13:41We need to lie, cheat and steal
13:44Well, not steal, but lie and cheat
13:46Thank you
13:47Thank you
13:48I don't think we've done anything wrong on the legs so far
13:51We managed to book a bus out tonight
13:53I don't think we could have done anything else
13:55Brian and Melvin are living the luxury life
13:59The exclusively luxurious life
14:02Look at ours
14:03Look, it's got tape on the front
14:06Oh, gosh
14:07Oi
14:09All right
14:10Yeah
14:11Okay
14:12Wait till the girls, Brian
14:14Yeah, she's waving
14:16Being ill in India is not fun
14:19Right
14:20Tom and Caroline have overtaken us
14:22So we need to try and catch up
14:24And get first
14:26I would say I'm very ambitious
14:28I want to succeed
14:30I agree we've both had that ability to
14:32To push ourselves, haven't we?
14:34Yeah
14:35No
14:36I don't think I've ever given up on anything I've ever tried
14:38No, we don't give up
14:45It's probably the most important leg for us
14:48A lot of catching up to do so
14:50Yeah
14:51The last team to depart the checkpoint
14:54Finn and Seanhead
14:56Needing to close the 33 hour gap on the race leaders
15:00Shall I do what I'm thinking?
15:01Yeah
15:02Quickest route
15:03It's an in and out job
15:04We get to the places we need to go
15:06Short stops
15:07And go again
15:08All the other teams know we're so far behind
15:10But hopefully
15:11Their luck runs out now
15:13And ours kicks in
15:14Well, I think we need
15:15To go to places that are very well connected
15:18I know it's through big cities
15:19And I'm not gonna like that
15:21But it's probably better to stick on these well-travelled routes
15:26The couple's plan
15:28Back-to-back transport along the tourist trail
15:31We want to find maybe like an overnight transport that will get us as far as we can today
15:36That would be best-case scenario
15:38Bus service
15:40Woo!
15:41Do buses go from Chandigarh to Jaipur?
15:44Yes
15:45What is the furthest we can get tonight towards Jaipur?
15:50Is there a bus tonight?
15:52Every year
15:53We book?
15:54Thank you very much
15:55You're welcome
15:58We're moving
15:59Which is a very good start
16:01We have onwards transport out
16:04We are going
16:06I think we will catch her
16:07850 kilometres south
16:12Jodhpur
16:14Called the Blue City
16:16For its houses decorated by the priestly Brahmin caste
16:19To distinguish their social superiority
16:25On its outskirts
16:28Salavas village
16:30Where Carline and Tom have arrived
16:34Namaste
16:35Namaste
16:36Namaste
16:39Oh wow
16:40Oh thank you
16:41They will work and stay with the Prajapats
16:43And their co-operative of 48 families
16:46This is so cool
16:47Do you guys live here?
16:49It's a home
16:50We have 21 members in the house
16:5221 members?
16:53You will meet all of them
16:55This is my father's turban
16:5710 metres long
16:59And why do you wear a turban?
17:01My father is the boss of the house
17:11This is very much a working village
17:13I'm very nervous to try and not break one
17:15Because I can imagine they're very brittle
17:17You need to be very careful
17:19This whole village is like an arty village
17:22And all the families help to make everything
17:24This is a pottery family
17:26So they're making water jugs
17:28And then you've got other like carpenter families
17:31And it's just a really nice community
17:33Of everyone who works together and helps each other out
17:37Being a labourer on a building site
17:40That means you are actually a hard worker
17:42I prefer being outside and working
17:44Like with my hands
17:46Rather than in an office
17:47Yeah, that's true
17:48Probably similar to everyone in this village
17:51They are connected with the nature
17:52More interesting
17:53I like it
17:54And it's good for the health as well
17:55Yes, yeah, yeah
17:56These bodies are moving
17:57For me my hobby comes in my job
17:59That's what I'm looking to find
18:00Hopefully one day
18:01For generations Mr. Prajapat's family have specialised in crafting durries
18:09Traditional cotton rugs
18:11Once supplying the palaces of Maharajas
18:14Today their traditional manufacturing method prevails
18:17Oh my golly Thomas
18:20Wow
18:22Gorgeous
18:24Sit
18:25This one
18:27This one
18:28And this one
18:29There
18:30God, you can't even get one strand wrong, can you?
18:33Mill take out
18:34Mill take out
18:35Mill take out
18:37It looks so difficult
18:38Can I do left?
18:39No, I love this one
18:40Oh
18:41Oh
18:42I don't know if I can do that
18:43I don't know if I can do that
18:53I struggle with my right hand
18:54In this one
18:55Yeah
18:56You need to be both handed
18:57You must use this hand
19:00Oh, I was born with cerebral palsy
19:03That's fine
19:04I'd love to try and use the right
19:06I would just do a bad job
19:07I don't want to mess it up
19:08And it's a nice carpet
19:09That's all
19:10I mean, if you are doing well in that hand
19:12Then it's fine
19:13Am I doing what?
19:14Save an idea
19:18He thinks so-so
19:20He's a very strict teacher, eh?
19:22That's good, he has to be
19:24That's genuinely the first time that I've openly said that I've got cerebral palsy
19:28And his reaction was so anticlimactic in such a good way
19:33He was just like, oh, okay
19:36And it turned out that it didn't really matter
19:40You're getting the hang of it
19:41I think so
19:42He's a really good teacher
19:44I guess it's the start of breaking down a barrier in my own head
19:47And it's nice to see that finally happening
19:50No, I'm really enjoying it
19:52Yes, that's important
19:53It's great
19:54I'm loving it
19:55It was quite a revelation
19:58He actually came out and said to a total stranger
20:01I've got cerebral palsy
20:03I'm really proud of him
20:05How long does it take to know exactly how to do this?
20:08Three to four years
20:09Three to four years
20:11Thomas seems to have rediscovered a driving force
20:14He seems to be more mature
20:17How lovely that he is finding his feet
20:20It's just lovely to be around him at the moment
20:23You are doing a good job
20:24I might get into carpet making at home
20:26Just 19 kilometres north
20:36Feeling any better?
20:39Brian and Melvin are closing in on the blue city
20:42Still a bit of stomach ache
20:44I'm more concerned with getting on to the next part of the journey
20:50Landscapes change to green fields, trees
20:54It is flat
20:57A bit like Lincolnshire in the sun
21:03190 kilometres to the east
21:06This cow's on a mission
21:09Look at all the colours
21:10It's quite colourful here too
21:12Elizabeth and Letitia have stopped off in Pushkar
21:15One of India's oldest towns
21:17Tomorrow we want to go to Jodhpur
21:24Private taxi like Moshima
21:264,500
21:274,500
21:284,500
21:29Can we do like 3,500?
21:31No, because this is 440 kilometres
21:333,800 and we can shake hands
21:38Lovely
21:39You are bargaining more than angels
21:44OK, bye bye
21:48Securing a direct transfer tomorrow
21:51Look at that lake
21:54And you can also just even mountains over back too
21:58Provides them with an opportunity to explore Pushkar's sacred lake
22:01I think they might have to take our shoes off here
22:04Gosh, I haven't even painted my toenails
22:07It is said it was formed by Lord Brahma, the Hindu god of creation
22:12During a battle, petals from a lotus flower fell from his hand
22:16And as they touched the ground, holy water rose up
22:25Every day, religious ceremonies are held on the banks of the lake
22:29Including puja rituals
22:32A chance to honour family and loved ones
22:36By making offerings to deities and ancestors

23:04My brother
23:05It was nice to share a little spiritual moment
23:08It gave me time to reflect
23:10About my family
23:14I give
23:15I do
23:16Happiness
23:17Happiness

23:21Health
23:22My sister
23:23She tries to talk about emotions
23:25Which is not my specialty
23:27And I don't like it at all
23:29A lot of things are unsaid
23:34On my part anyway
23:35Namaste
23:38Namaste
23:39Harikishma
23:40How did you find the ceremony?
23:47It definitely made me reflect on family, I feel
23:50And I am actually very grateful
23:52I think we were always kind of there for each other
23:56Yeah, I feel like now
23:58But I feel like that was the moment where support wasn't present really
24:03When we lost the family house
24:06I just remember being in a car driving somewhere
24:10Seeing if we can stay there
24:11We just had
24:13Either one or two bags
24:15And had to part with a lot of stuff
24:19Yeah, I remember feeling so bad
24:21How sudden
24:22The move was for you
24:28I had some kind of inkling
24:30There was something going on
24:31I didn't think it was going to be
24:33Losing the house
24:35But in 2008
24:37With the whole economic crisis
24:39My dad went out of work
24:41In construction
24:44In 2012
24:46We had to pack our things
24:48And
24:50See where we were going to go
24:51Basically
24:54I just felt ashamed about it
24:55And embarrassed
24:57Yeah, I think that's what I feel like
25:00Bad about
25:01I kind of
25:02Ran away
25:03I didn't experience the hardest times that you guys felt
25:08They went to temporary accommodation
25:11I was already over 18
25:13So they weren't going to, you know, house me
25:16So I went to Italy
25:20I was only like 14
25:22So I felt like I was just going through it by myself really
25:25I definitely needed someone to talk to
25:30For me it felt like he just suddenly left
25:33Mm
25:35It was hard for me to hear
25:36I didn't really have anybody to talk to
25:38My reaction to hearing that is guilt
25:41But I kind of just tried to do
25:44Like what I could at that time
25:47Was that your decision to leave?
25:49Well
25:52I felt like there was no space for me anymore
25:54My space in England wasn't, yeah, there anymore
25:58And yeah, I didn't really know how you felt anyway
26:01You know
26:03Feeling like you didn't have a place when you came back
26:06Mm
26:07Oh, this is probably the most I've actually
26:12I haven't seen anything
26:14Oh, my insides
26:15I'm trying
26:17I feel so good talking about this
26:20Yeah
26:21So good
26:23I've opened up emotionally today
26:25I think more than ever
26:27Some weight has been lifted off my shoulders
26:29And I do feel a lot lighter
26:31I do feel
26:33Mm
26:34You know
26:36I'm glad
26:37We are talking about it
26:38And it's
26:39It's overdue really
26:41You know
26:44We are getting past the hard bit
26:47I feel like it'll be
26:48One of many conversations we'll probably have, you know
26:51Mm
26:52Oh
27:15As three teams continue to head south through Rajasthan
27:20Let's get on our way
27:23Oh
27:24Caroline and Tom are the first to cross into Gujarat
27:27I think I've worked out my single favourite thing to do in India
27:30What's that?
27:31And it's just a wave at people
27:33Making a connection in Ahmedabad
27:36We've seen an experience
27:39Possibly with some work as well
27:41At a desert lodge
27:43Neither of us have ever been to a proper desert
27:46Oh, that's that New York
27:49What?
27:50Ooh
27:53Ooh
28:02Ooh
28:03Ooh
28:04Don't worry
28:05He just got out and had a little prayer and then
28:06Got back into them and are back on our way
28:08I mean, we've got a respect
28:09Respected. Yeah, I do, but I've never seen it.
28:11Yeah, yeah, it's amazing.
28:13I like that.
28:19And 650 kilometres behind...
28:22I think today's aim is to get to Udaipur by bus or train,
28:29but that was faster.
28:31Finn and Sean Ed have reached Rajasthan's capital,
28:34the pink city of Jaipur.
28:37We need to go to Udaipur.
28:3910.30.
28:40And are on the hunt for another long-distance bus
28:43to propel them forward.
28:45Double sleeper?
28:45Erm, cheapest one.
28:47When does it arrive?
28:485.30pm.
28:49Two tickets, yeah?
28:501,800 to double sleeper.
28:521,800, perfect.
28:53We've literally arrived and we're leaving.
29:01That one, if you'd like.
29:03I hope she'll like it.
29:05Little pre-bus cake date.
29:08Oh, my gosh, cake.
29:12Thanks.
29:15I've been cake-deprived.
29:19I love cake for breakfast.
29:21I've nearly scuffed it all down already.
29:27You good?
29:29Wow, this cake's work.
29:30This is a magic cake, honestly.
29:32It is, isn't it?
29:34Oh, Scott, are you okay?
29:36There's been many points where I've thought I could not handle India.
29:44It is already a big thing for me to just even still be here.
29:48But I think if we were able to catch up with three more teams now, it'd be surprising for a lot of people.
29:55Whilst the young couple refuel...
29:57Whilst the young couple refuel...
30:00Yum.
30:02..two teams have made it to the largest desert in India.
30:07The Thar.
30:08Crikey, some of them are big, aren't they?
30:15Absolutely ideal.
30:18I mean, the view now is absolutely beautiful.
30:22It's just beautiful.
30:26Whoa!
30:27Stretching for 200,000 square kilometres across the subcontinent...
30:37Look.
30:38Thomas, this is amazing.
30:40..it's a haven for biodiversity, including 141 species of bird
30:47and human settlements dating back tens of thousands of years.
30:53Today, with over 16 million inhabitants,
30:57it's the most densely populated desert in the world.
31:01Oh, I can see one, yeah.
31:03Yeah, I got them, there.
31:04Oh, I got them, yeah, I got them.
31:06Amazing place.
31:09They're gorgeous animals.
31:10Oh, Thomas, that is lovely, actually, to see that in that setting.
31:14So silent.
31:17Within the desert, a salt marsh,
31:19known as the Little Ran of Kutch,
31:23home to the critically endangered Indian wild ass.
31:27How many do they think are left?
31:31About 3,000 animals.
31:33Is that true?
31:34Yeah.
31:34But you will not see this animal anywhere in the world.
31:40They can go over 70 kilometres an hour.
31:44Oh, my God!
31:45They're extremely fast, much faster than a horse.
31:48Yes!
31:49A special moment.
31:55Magical.
31:56I think they're just truly, truly wild.
31:59And here we are in their life.
32:02It's just beautiful.
32:03Hello.
32:12I'm here.
32:12Are you beautiful?
32:14It's an amazing sight, isn't it?
32:17Hello.
32:17Well, you don't get it any fresher than that, mate, do you?
32:30Brian and Melvin are on hand at a camel dairy farm.
32:33Oh, that's lovely.
32:42Pull, squeeze, pull, squeeze, yeah?
32:44Pull, squeeze.
32:46Squeeze, pull.
32:47No, pull, squeeze, I think.
32:50I think you're getting me, Mel.
32:52I'm not.
32:53I'm getting some in the pond.
32:54I'm not doing it as well as the other gentlemen,
32:56but we're getting some.
32:57The region is home to a community of rikas,
33:01nomadic herders who have been shepherding camels for centuries,
33:05a duty believed to have been assigned to them
33:07by the Hindu god Lord Shiva.
33:10I'll show you how to do it properly.
33:11Go on, then.
33:12Not as easy as it looks, isn't it?
33:14Ah, it's easy.
33:15Look at this.
33:16Come on, come on.
33:19There you go.
33:20Look, this is technique.
33:21I got twice as much as you did.
33:23Well, I don't think you did.
33:27That's a big term.
33:30Thank you, my friend.
33:33That's good.
33:34I'm going to make it up.
33:35That's good.
33:38These camel herders,
33:39they are hard to keep up with.
33:41Some of them are probably older than us.
33:43They do look well-weathered.
33:44They're very fit.
33:46It's a very simplistic life, isn't it?
33:49However, they all have mobile phones.
33:51I noticed that.
33:53We need to catch him up, Mel.
33:55I know.
33:56We're coming, coming.
33:58With a flock of 150 camels,
34:01each with unique footprints,
34:04the Rikers can recognise their own animals
34:06from just the marks left in the sand.
34:09Yeah, brother.
34:10Come on.
34:11Do you find me they listen to you, brother?
34:13Well, they're moving, aren't they?
34:15Come on, then.
34:17I've been poorly,
34:19and doing the race when you're ill
34:21is even tougher.
34:23You have to keep on going.
34:25Come on.
34:25This adventure,
34:28it's been the most uncomfortable adventure
34:31of my life.
34:33But it has been
34:34the most rewarding
34:37in that I'm still here
34:39and I'm still talking about it.
34:41Because many a times,
34:42I want to give up and go home,
34:44but I haven't.
34:45All right, guys,
34:48we're moving.
34:50Come on.
34:51Come on.
34:54Come on, girls.
34:55When we were kids,
34:59we did promise ourselves an invention,
35:01and it's probably happened
35:02a little bit later
35:03than we anticipated.
35:05But just because you're
35:06a little bit older,
35:07it doesn't mean you can't
35:08do these sort of things.
35:10I'm on statins.
35:12I take something
35:13from a prostate.
35:14But it's what it is, isn't it?
35:17I'm still here.
35:17Look what I've got to enjoy.
35:20Yo.
35:21Click, click, click, click, click.
35:24Go for it, guys.
35:26It'll be a lot easier
35:27to sit on one.
35:29Growing old,
35:30it does worry me.
35:32When I look in the mirror
35:33and I look at myself,
35:34I don't actually recognise me.
35:37I still think I'm 14, 15, 16.
35:40I still think I've got
35:42a full head of hair.
35:45There you go.
35:46Right, that's how you do it.
35:48Don't leave none behind.
35:50Good job.
35:59I think there might be
36:02the odd one or two adventures
36:03that Merv and I will do again.
36:06You know,
36:07I'm actually thinking
36:09that I'd want to share
36:10a nursing home
36:11with my brother.
36:13It'd probably cause
36:14a bit of mayhem.
36:16Yeah, we'd probably
36:18do silly things
36:19because we could get away
36:20with it.
36:32We're going that way.
36:34That way.
36:35OK, right.
36:36So long.
36:37Thank you very much.
36:37So long.
36:38See you long.
36:39Thank you all.
36:40Thank you all.
36:41Bye, camels.
36:44Journey starts all over again.
36:45It does.
36:47We know that other teams
36:49are pretty close to us.
36:51Melvin and I aren't runners,
36:52so we need to try
36:54and maintain
36:55touching distance
36:56of everyone.
36:56as Brian and Melvin
36:58resume their journey.
37:01Wraithing across the world.
37:03150 kilometres from the brothers,
37:06Elizabeth and Leticia
37:07are continuing
37:08their march south.
37:10Started in China.
37:12I definitely feel like
37:14there's a change,
37:15there's like a shift
37:16and I feel like
37:16we're very much
37:18more open
37:19and it's just easier
37:21just travelling
37:21actually together.
37:22We've come a long way.
37:24I'm loving it.
37:26It is.
37:27It's nothing good.
37:29On a bus.
37:34Having left Jaipur.
37:36I want a shower
37:37to brush my teeth.
37:39Finn and Sean Ed
37:40are making swift progress
37:41by taking the third
37:43long distance bus
37:44in two days.
37:45Aiming for Udaipur,
37:47the white city.
37:48I'm feeling
37:51absolutely disgusting.
37:53I feel so salty.
37:55I changed my underwear.
37:58Be honest.
38:00Yesterday,
38:01before the bus.
38:02Three days ago.
38:03The whole outfit,
38:04I'm wearing it
38:05for three days.
38:05Yeah.
38:06Not my underwear.
38:08Not that gross.
38:13I don't think
38:14we could have done it
38:15any quicker.
38:16Two 10-hour buses
38:17in 24 hours.
38:19We've just been
38:19go, go, go.
38:21I think we're very tired.
38:23We've seen a homestay
38:24on the way.
38:26We've got work
38:26for a reduced rate
38:27at the ranch.
38:29Ready then
38:30to restart tomorrow
38:32and do
38:34the final push
38:35towards checkpoint.
38:40Still in the
38:41little run of Kutch.
38:44I'm going to take
38:44my feet off.
38:46Nice.
38:47Caroline and Tom.
38:50It's absolutely
38:50just like another planet.
38:53Once part of the
38:55Arabian Sea,
38:56until it became
38:57isolated following
38:58a series of earthquakes,
38:59lakes, it is now
39:01one of the largest
39:02salt deserts
39:03in the world.
39:06Every year,
39:08it floods
39:08with the monsoon
39:09before drying out
39:11to leave an expanse
39:12of salty,
39:13cracked earth.
39:15There is
39:15families
39:16who are producing
39:18saltier.
39:19OK.
39:20In return
39:21for discounted
39:21accommodation,
39:23Caroline and Tom
39:24are kept busy.
39:25Whole pan needs
39:27to be done.
39:27What?
39:28Yes.
39:32So could you not
39:34have a machine
39:35that does it?
39:36Machinery kills
39:37labour.
39:37People need jobs.
39:39The local Agaria
39:41people use a process
39:43of compressing the ground
39:44to minimise water
39:46and release the salt.
39:47They say you do
39:50it very well.
39:51Can he give
39:52a hundred kilos
39:53of salt to your son
39:54and keep you, please?
39:59That's the second
40:00marriage proposal
40:00I've had since
40:01I've been out here.
40:04It has a therapeutic
40:05quality about it.
40:06I'm just in my own
40:07little world here,
40:08yet in the most
40:09enormous expanse,
40:11and it just brings you
40:12back to how unimportant
40:13we really are.
40:14Nature will win
40:14every time.
40:17I'm feeling
40:19conflicted
40:20because on one
40:21hand, I'm worried
40:23that we're taking
40:23a long time
40:24to get to the
40:24checkpoints,
40:25and on the other
40:26hand, I'm really
40:26enjoying what rural
40:29India is showing
40:30us.
40:31I'm slowly falling
40:32in love with it.
40:34It's just as
40:35important that you
40:36enjoy the journey
40:37as much as you
40:38enjoy the destination.
40:41I'm enjoying
40:43the experiences
40:44enormously,
40:45and I'm allowing
40:45myself to enjoy
40:46them more than
40:47I thought I
40:47would.
40:48I think I'm
40:49being quite
40:50different from
40:51the person I
40:51am at home,
40:52more emotional,
40:54generally a lot
40:54happier, easygoing,
40:56which isn't like
40:57me at all.
40:59Does it make you
41:00question your
41:01competitive side?
41:02In an answer,
41:03no.
41:03I'm afraid my
41:04competitive side is
41:05still at the
41:05fore, so I
41:07actually want to
41:07combine the two.
41:08I would have
41:09thought by this
41:09point you were
41:09probably pulling
41:10your own hair up.
41:11Wanting to race.
41:12I would be a
41:14really selfish
41:15person to not
41:16want to do this
41:17with you.
41:17Yes, yeah, of
41:18course.
41:18Because these are
41:19just the most
41:20special memories
41:21we're making.
41:22But then equally,
41:22I'd be selfish to
41:23try and take away
41:25your competitive side
41:26because that's what
41:26makes you tick.
41:27Hey, we're finding
41:28a balance.
41:29Thomas, don't
41:30fall over.
41:31I'll start slow
41:32first.
41:32Five kilometres
41:57outside of
41:58Udaipur.
42:00It's hard work.
42:02Finn and Seanud
42:03are working at
42:04Krishna Ranch as
42:05Mike wait towards
42:06last night's
42:07accommodation.
42:08Steal some,
42:09quick.
42:10Take some.
42:11Quick.
42:12Oh, shit.
42:13Woo.
42:14These are the
42:15times where I'm
42:15like, wow, I'm
42:16really, really
42:17grateful for being
42:17in India, really.
42:18Woo.
42:21Although we have
42:21just prioritised
42:22speed, I'm finding
42:23this leg very,
42:24very enjoyable.
42:25I'm absolutely
42:26loving it.
42:26Just an
42:27absolutely beautiful
42:28place.
42:29I genuinely would
42:30not want to be
42:30anywhere else right
42:30now.
42:31There's chipmunks.
42:32There's horses.
42:33There's cows.
42:34There's chickens
42:35just running around.
42:36There's birds.
42:37There's the food.
42:39Come on then.
42:40Heading.
42:40Good girl.
42:42Please be good.
42:43Oh, shit.
42:44You're strong.
42:45Oh, shit.
42:48It's been
42:49very important for
42:51me to have
42:52Finn with me
42:52in India because
42:53he manages to
42:55keep things a bit
42:56more positive and
42:56keep the boat
42:57floating, really.
42:58he's the most
43:00resilient person I
43:00know.
43:01I don't think he
43:02understands, like,
43:03how much he has
43:06actually gone
43:06through.
43:07Hello.
43:11Look.
43:11There are bits in India
43:15where I do find it
43:15hard, but I think
43:16Kishorena finds it
43:17hard.
43:18I just try and stay
43:19positive, and I do
43:21definitely think I'm a
43:22little bit more
43:22resilient.
43:23I think just growing up
43:25for me, I've realised,
43:26like, I mean, life isn't
43:28perfect when things
43:29happen.
43:31When I was 11, I would
43:34think I was on the sofa.
43:35I just wasn't really
43:36moving.
43:37My mum was like,
43:38oh, OK, something's
43:39wrong.
43:40She just thought,
43:40right, I'm taking
43:41you to the doctors.
43:44And it's good that
43:44she did.
43:45Very good that she
43:46did.
43:48It was top one
43:49diabetes.
43:51It was a week in
43:52intensive care, then it
43:54was a week in just
43:56children's ward.
43:59Quite a lot for 11,
44:00I think.
44:01Being diabetic, there's
44:02a lot of complications
44:04that can come with it,
44:05you know, with your
44:05eyes.
44:06And I think my eyes
44:06are already going a
44:08little bit.
44:10And obviously, I only
44:11being 18, it's not
44:14something you really
44:15want to think about,
44:17I don't think.
44:19But it's something you've
44:20got to think about.
44:23About two years after, I
44:25had a tumour in my
44:27head.
44:28I had surgery then in my
44:29head because they found
44:30out what it was.
44:31But that was horrific.
44:33Being rushed up to a
44:34bigger hospital, this is not
44:36good.
44:37Obviously, you think you're
44:37going to die.
44:40I'm fine now.
44:43I'm...
44:43look.
44:56This is the cutest little
44:58horse ever.
45:02Now, I don't take anything
45:03for granted on this race.
45:05It's hard, but I'm just
45:07trying to enjoy it, really.
45:08And so far, I am, because it
45:09is something I look back to
45:11and think I'm so proud that I
45:14did that.
45:16Which I am.
45:19And someone else agrees.
45:20Goodbye.
45:22Bye-bye.
45:23Bye-bye.
45:30This is your ticket.
45:31Oh, wow.
45:32To Rajkot.
45:33I've had such a good time.
45:35And not only that, but we've
45:36also sorted our onwards travel.
45:383,500.
45:39You can count it as well.
45:40Our bus is booked for 10 o'clock.
45:42One day.
45:43Bye-bye.
45:43Bye.
45:44We've got to sleep.
45:45Hopefully we'll just sleep all
45:46night, wake up and be in Rajkot.
45:50That's the plan.
45:53As Finn and Seanhead get back
45:55on the road, two teams are
45:58gaining ground.
46:01It's really important that we
46:02try and get there today, because
46:03I picked the third.
46:05Looking on the map, it is
46:06another 300 kilometres.
46:10Making a beeline for the
46:11checkpoint.
46:12I'm going to find you on the
46:14way to checkpoint, because I
46:15feel like it was a long time
46:17coming.
46:17Mm-hmm.
46:18This is where, you know, we
46:19need to be.
46:20Go, go, go.
46:22This is our longest journey.
46:25How long is it?
46:2615 to 16 hours.
46:27Oh!
46:30At their homestay in the
46:32rural village of Zainabad.
46:33How far away is Sassangir from
46:35here?
46:35300 kilometres.
46:3618.
46:37Caroline and Tom weigh up
46:39their next move.
46:40Where's the closest place that
46:42we could get to tonight?
46:43Junagad.
46:45Let's just get a taxi there
46:46now.
46:46If you can help us, that would
46:47be great.
46:48Yeah, this is India.
46:49Anything can happen.
46:50Absolutely anything.
46:52I am a little bit concerned that
46:53our position might have dropped.
46:55We've idled for quite a few hours
46:56and just thinking at the back of
46:58my mind, we're standing still
47:00and I think the other teams might
47:02be moving on and overtaking us.
47:04I do actually still need to race.
47:06Vehicle arrives in 10, 15 minutes
47:09and it is about 7,200 rupees.
47:13Obviously a bit expensive for us,
47:15but is there a bus available?
47:17There is one directly to Junagad.
47:18Do you know what time it gets in?
47:20Six, seven hours.
47:22You don't know roughly how much
47:24the bus is?
47:24Maximum 150 rupees.
47:26Oh, we're such a dilemma.
47:28It's up to you.
47:29What do you want to do?
47:29We have both options available.
47:30Back at you.
47:35I've told you I'd rather get a taxi,
47:37I think, but I need your opinion.
47:38So I don't mind?
47:39That's not good enough.
47:40I'm sorry.
47:40You need to be able to make a decision.
47:42We do have the budget.
47:43Well, go with it then.
47:44If that's what you want,
47:45just go with that.
47:45Okay.
47:47It's all just about saving time,
47:49but when I ask mum,
47:50she puts all the pressure on me.
47:52Mum's saying she's feeling all liberated.
47:54She needs to be able to make a decision
47:56because that's part of racing.
47:59It's a lot of money to spend.
48:00But it might well be worth it.
48:02But I really don't want to take responsibility
48:05and I will try my hardest
48:06not to say I told you so
48:08if it all goes wrong.
48:12It's here.
48:13Thank you so much.
48:15One day we'll go to Weatherspoons together.
48:17Oh, I love it.
48:30All four teams have made it to Gujarat.
48:43Platform 10.
48:45That's a gift.
48:45As Brian and Melvin take a 5am bus
48:48for the final 40 kilometres to checkpoint...
48:51There's nobody else on the bus from the race,
48:54so it could be good news.
48:57The adrenaline's building, isn't it?
48:59How much?
49:01How much?
49:022,500.
49:03We need to...
49:04We're in a race.
49:06We need to...
49:07Vamos.
49:08Caroline and Tom opt for another private taxi.
49:11This car.
49:12Lovely.
49:13Having arrived overnight from Jodhpur...
49:15One way.
49:17From here, Sassangir and stop.
49:194,500.
49:21Yeah, yeah.
49:21Elizabeth and Leticia secure their final transfer.
49:25How much would it be to get a Sassangir?
49:27Thank you very much.
49:30Whilst Finn and Seanet continue to keep their pace.
49:33Very expensive.
49:34Very expensive.
49:36But we need to save as much time as we can.
49:38My hand's on the roof.
49:41After Sassangir.
49:43I'd be pretty gutted to find out
49:45that we haven't gained any time.
49:46If we haven't,
49:47it's probably game over.
49:49My heart's going like,
49:50buh-buh, buh-buh, buh-buh.
49:52This is when the nerve starts kicking.
49:55I still can't help feeling
49:57we've dropped a couple of places.
50:00We go fast, fast, fast.
50:03Yeah.
50:04I'm lying.
50:04I'm telling you the one lying.
50:05Lying?
50:06I am hoping
50:09we're not going to be running alongside a lion.
50:12That will make us run to the table.
50:13Right on the door.
50:15Sitting on the boundary
50:23to Geyer National Park,
50:26the village is home
50:27to the Muldari and Sidi communities,
50:30who live side by side
50:31with free-roaming lions,
50:33crocodiles,
50:35and hyenas.
50:37Oh, wow.
50:39This could be actually pretty bloody cool.
50:50All done.
50:52My friend,
50:53thank you so much.
50:59Here we go.
51:01Find the main road
51:02and travel one kilometre by foot.
51:05Or by Chakadu.
51:09Chakadu.
51:11Chikadu.
51:11To the
51:12higher-end river bridge.
51:14We have to find the main road.
51:21It's either that way
51:21or that way.
51:23We can either go left,
51:24main road,
51:25left, left.
51:27Left or right?
51:28Keep looking, Thomas.
51:30It's a mental.
51:32Oh, gosh.
51:33Oh, there's the main road.
51:34The main road there.
51:34Lovely.
51:35What's it called?
51:36A Chakadu.
51:38Chakadu?
51:39Chakadu?
51:40Chakadu?
51:40Chakadu?
51:41Oh, this might be a Chakadu.
51:43Chakadu.
51:44Must be another name
51:45for a rickshaw.
51:46Is this a Chakadu?
51:48Is this a Chakadu?
51:50Are you a Chakadu?
51:52Oogie, yes.
51:53Is this this?
51:54What, this is?
51:54Yes.
51:54Do you want to give it a go?
51:56All right.
51:56It's going to be quicker than walking.
51:58Oh, I thought Chipchook's
51:59weren't very secure,
52:00but this is something else.
52:01Around River Bridge.
52:02How much?
52:0350-doodle.
52:04Ah, good.
52:0540?
52:05We're in a race.
52:06Get on.
52:07Thank you, 40.
52:08I guess so.
52:08Just climbing.
52:09Take the bag off first.
52:10I can't.
52:13Now we know what a Chakadu is,
52:14then, don't we?
52:15It's a cross between
52:16a Harley-Davidson
52:17and a track.
52:20Woo!
52:21Chakadu, chakadu,
52:22chakadu, go, go,
52:23chakadu, chakadu,
52:24chakadu, go, go, go.
52:25This is awesome.
52:27You're in a Chakadu.
52:28In the island country.
52:31This is so much fun.
52:32Heed and Bridge.
52:34Watch out for wildlife.
52:35To the bridge, please, yeah.
52:41Look for crocodiles
52:42as you go over the river.
52:51Continue on foot
52:52across the bridge
52:53and find the Chakadu Hotel,
52:55the Ferngeir Forest Resort.
52:57Okay.
52:57Ready?
53:01Go.
53:02Let's go.
53:05Oh, Kevin Lyons crossing.
53:07So cool.
53:08I wonder if there's crocodiles
53:10in the lake.
53:13I don't know where the bum
53:13is sitting in that
53:14Chakadu, chakabang.
53:15Mine's a bit damp.
53:16Oh, beautiful.
53:17Oh, look at this,
53:18your honour.
53:18It won't be far, Mel.
53:23Thomas, walk.
53:24Okay, okay, go.
53:26Oh, gosh.
53:28I can see it on the left, Mel.
53:31Ferngeir Forest Resort.
53:32Oh, Mum, we're nearly there.
53:34I've got a funny feeling
53:34we're going to be bloody last, you know.
53:37Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi.
53:38Good morning.
53:44Good morning.
53:45Morning.
53:47Can I tell you
53:47if you've successfully
53:48reached your 60 checkpoint,
53:49please sign in over leave?
53:54I don't believe that.
53:56Have we done that?
53:57I don't know.
53:58I think...
53:59I don't know how we've done that.
54:02Hold on, mate.
54:02We don't.
54:03I don't.
54:04So, first place,
54:05didn't expect it.
54:06Delighted that we've come in
54:07in first.
54:08That's the third time
54:09I think we've been first.
54:10We figured we wanted to
54:11keep pace with Tom and Caroline.
54:14And we've actually leaped from them,
54:16which is great.
54:17Oh, oh, oh, oh.
54:18Oh, brilliant.
54:19Hello.
54:20Okay.
54:20Ready?
54:21Oh, my God, I'm shaking.
54:24Oh, my God, that's better.
54:26Oh, my God.
54:27That's so much better than I thought.
54:29We've only dropped two hours,
54:30and that is a big relief to us
54:32because we had a fantastic leg
54:33with wonderful experiences.
54:36That's a good sign of relief.
54:37It's nice to know
54:38that we had amazing experiences
54:40without sacrificing too much,
54:42and it's all paid off.
54:44Hello.
54:45Namaskar.
54:46Welcome to the Pagiphoras Resort.
54:48Ready?
54:51Oh.
54:54Good?
54:55Oh, that's good.
54:57That's good.
54:57That's good.
54:58Oh, wow.
54:59Oh, wow.
55:02Feeling great.
55:04Got two legs to go so we can catch up.
55:07Yeah.
55:07Because we're actually closer.
55:09Five hours from Ryan and Melvin.
55:11Wow.
55:12That's crazy.
55:15Let's go.
55:17She's running.
55:21There it is.
55:22Oh, no.
55:23Oh, no.
55:24Very nervous
55:25to open this pack.
55:28Oh, wow.
55:30Oh, hello.
55:31Namaste.
55:31Namaskar.
55:33Are you ready?
55:34Yeah.
55:35Oh, please.
55:36Congratulations.
55:38You've successfully reached
55:39your sixth checkpoint.
55:40Please sign in overleaf.
55:45Oh, my gosh.
55:47Oh, wow.
55:48We're an hour behind.
55:49Oh, my God.
55:52Well done.
55:54Well done.
55:55How have we done that?
55:57Don't think I've ever been
55:57that excited to be last
55:58because we've caught up the time.
56:00Oh, that's amazing.
56:01That's absolutely amazing.
56:02We've caught up with Tom and Caroline
56:04who were first by 26 hours.
56:06We've caught up 26 hours.
56:08Only six hours from first.
56:10That's, like, easily doable now
56:11for the next leg to come first or second.
56:13That one leg has saved us.
56:16It's going to be a closer now, definitely.
56:17For the first time
56:19since leaving the Great Wall of China,
56:22all teams are within seven hours of each other
56:24as they head into the penultimate leg.
56:27But whilst the time gap tightens,
56:30the budget divide grows
56:31as Finn and Sean Ed trail behind
56:34with only 21% of their funds remaining.
56:38Wow.
56:39So if we can do what we just did then, next leg.
56:40Do it again.
56:41And again.
56:41And then we win.
56:42Winners.
56:43So I can't scrabble with your slots.
56:48Oh, well, fuck it.
56:49Let's go.
56:50This is a totally different side to Ingrid.
56:53So different.
56:54The closer to the finale,
56:56the more competitive I'm getting.
56:58Like, there's no room for error.
56:59No.
57:01This race has pulled something out of it.
57:03Oh!
57:04I do just want to see more of the world.
57:08It's a bit like any minute
57:09I'm going to get run out of my motorbike.
57:11Come in, come in, come in, come in, come in.
57:13God, it's massive.
57:14The race is all to play for.
57:18It's a bit risky.
57:18It's a bit spicy.
57:20It's Brian and Melvin.
57:21It's a bit spicy.
57:52It's a bit spicy.
57:52You won't help me.
57:54It's a bit spicy.
