Trump Asked If He'll Attend G20 Summit In South Africa Right In Front Of South Africa's President

In his Oval Office meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, President Trump was asked if he'll attend the G20 Summit.

00:09How important is it for the United States to be at our G20 Summit in November,

00:16given the relationship between our two countries?

00:18You've just heard what has been said to you just now.

00:22Are you coming, and are you preparing to come?

00:25So without the United States, the G20, just like the G7, used to be the G8,

00:30but brilliantly they threw Russia out, would have been a lot better if Russia was in.

00:34You know, a lot of people would say, oh, that's not it.

00:36Because if Russia was in, you probably wouldn't have this war.

00:40And if you had a different president, you wouldn't have the war either.

00:43But we have a G7.

00:45It's important that the United States is in both of them.

00:47I think without the United States, I really believe it's not very important.

00:53It's not the same meaning.

00:55As I said to President Trump, the U.S. really originated the G20.

01:03And it's important that the United States continues to play a key role in the G20.

01:11And we are privileged to be the president of the G20.

01:16But we are even overjoyed that we are going to hand over to the United States,

01:21who are the originators.

01:22And for that reason, I expect the United States to continue playing the leadership role

01:30in the G20 together with other countries.

01:32And I've said, when I initially spoke to President Trump on the phone,

01:38I want him to come to South Africa for a state visit.

01:41And I also want him to come and participate in the G20.

01:46And I want to gladly hand over to President Trump

01:50to take the leadership of the G20 forward in November.
