00:00Yes, the weather patterns are changing, just in time for the bank holiday weekend.
00:05It's going to be a messy one, with some welcomed rain, certainly welcomed by many gardeners and farmers,
00:11but there'll still be some sunny spells to be had.
00:15Let's take a look at the big picture.
00:16Low pressure is now sitting to the north, where high pressure has been sitting for much of the month.
00:21This one will slowly track across the country, but behind me, out in the Atlantic, things are brewing.
00:27The jet stream is becoming a little more energised, not especially strong, but strong enough to pick up this low and send it just to the north of the UK.
00:35And that will bring a spell of wet weather and some strong winds across the far northwest during Sunday.
00:41And further weather fronts with a reasonably active jet stream to follow on behind for Monday and through next week, which is, of course, a half term for many.
00:50OK, this is the weekend forecast, though, so let's get into the detail.
00:53This first set of weather fronts crossing the country Friday night, bringing a dull and damp start for many.
00:58But this zone of rain, which will be heavy for a time, should be clearing a way out into the North Sea.
01:04It may take a while before it clears from East Anglia and the southeast, but generally turning a bit brighter through Saturday for many,
01:10before we see showery rain returning to many western areas.
01:14There'll be some brighter spells coming through, a little bit of sunshine, most likely in parts of the east,
01:19but generally fairly cloudy conditions.
01:22And we'll see those showers, as I say, coming and going, particularly in parts of the west.
01:27Temperature-wise, still reasonably mild and feeling quite humid, certainly through the morning.
01:33Temperature-wise, we're looking at 19, 20 degrees Celsius.
01:36Generally speaking, that's a little above average still, but feeling cooler than it has done for most of May so far.
01:43And it's going to turn cooler as the weekend progresses.
01:47That next weather system moving in, bringing some rain on Saturday night across Northern Ireland.
01:50And this low, as it intensifies from the jet stream interaction,
01:54well, the exact shape and position of this low will be crucial to the strength of the wind.
01:59As the isobas pinch together there, we will see some gusty conditions during the early hours of Sunday across the northwest of Scotland.
02:06Quite a blustery morning here. Nothing exceptional, certainly, but unusual for the time of year, perhaps.
02:13And certainly it'll be noteworthy because the winds have been so light for many of late.
02:18It's not really Sunday of the day to be up into the highlands of Scotland.
02:21Make sure you check any mountain forecast before heading up the hills this weekend.
02:25So blustery in the northwest, a breezy day everywhere.
02:28There'll be showers in most places as well.
02:30But there will also be some sunshine and parts of the south and the east may not see too many showers.
02:36A good chunk of England and Wales may actually be largely dry through Sunday afternoon.
02:41And the sunny spells across the southeast, where the winds will be lightest,
02:45it'll feel reasonably pleasant if you could see highs of 20 or 21 Celsius.
02:49But the showers will be pretty frequent for Northern Ireland, northwest England, western Scotland.
02:54Heavy ones, even the chance of the odd rumble of thunder.
02:57They will tend to zip through because it will be quite breezy here,
03:01but certainly feeling cool with temperatures struggling to get into the teens
03:04and feeling cooler with that wind.
03:06Remains reasonably breezy in Two Bank Holiday Monday.
03:09And it remains another showery day as well.
03:12So the showers will tend to come and go.
03:14It's not going to rain all day.
03:15There will be some drier spells.
03:17Best of any brightness, probably parts of northeast England down to East Anglia.
03:20And perhaps a cloudier day for Wales and southwest England on Monday,
03:25with an increasing chance of some showery rain coming and going.
03:28Temperature-wise, well, we're back much closer to average, or if not a little below.
03:32Certainly when the showers come along, it'll feel on the cool side.
03:36So as I said, a fairly mixed picture.
03:38And that's how it's looking indeed for much of next week.
