00:00welcome to the overreact podcast in a society that tries to put women in a box let's overreact
00:10it's your girl momo hoya it's your girl angela wamboy and it's your girl lash angela yes we are
00:15back uh with yet a new voice a new beautiful powerhouse uh she's going to be sharing herself
00:22with us if you're new here if you're an og um you're going to learn something from this powerhouse
00:29she's in the business of bringing women together building communities and basically just bringing
00:36the platform where women voices are heard and empowerment is amplified she's uh here and she's
00:44going to tell us who she is but before i do she does that lush i just want to remind you guys that
00:50today is ladies night and um we're really excited to be back and as you said mo it's a with a different
00:57voice and a different force um so in case you missed last week wednesday you missed an our first
01:03time on the fuse overreact hour where we um had conversations where women's stories were taking
01:10center stage and we also got to listen to global music by female artists and so overreact yes is back
01:18bigger bolder better and we are so excited to bring more energy bring more voices and as mo said we have
01:27a special guest who's not just a guest is actually our friend so this is gonna be very much girlfriends
01:32coming back together and getting together um this is christine mudoni who is the founder of um alpha
01:40cars car giant and also co-founder of autumn of it and founder of elite women but mic check first
01:50how are you feeling today how's your day been on a scale of one to ten a solid eight i am so grateful
01:58to be here oh we're so happy to have you and we're so happy to sit here with you and have a conversation
02:04but before we do that um who is christine madoni beyond the titles um wow that always gets me all the
02:13time so christine is um a woman and i don't know a woman is a woman a title
02:20it is yes oh my goodness so christine is someone who's very passionate about curating spaces for
02:28women and um very passionate about empowering women and also just um gosh very authentic babe who's
02:37always striving to do more and much better oh i love it by the way did you guys have a discussion
02:42about what to wear and angela why are you always peeping in my window seeing that i'm wearing
02:48orange but orange you are like yes i'm gonna do the same we're bringing the old money aesthetic
02:53exactly yes um so christine one thing that is really interesting about christine is not only is
03:00she the founder of elite women ke bringing women together but she's also in a very male dominated
03:05industry as you heard um you know she's a managing director at alpha car giants and the co-founder of
03:11automotive in a male dominated industry how how did you find yourself there like that that question
03:19is is let me say deep because every time i get it i wonder why am i in this space but then again i
03:26remember this is a space where i feel most excited and happy to be in because the automotive industry
03:33is as you said very very male dominated however i love cars and what best way to
03:41be in this car industry other than just make sure that i implement my ikigai of my love for cars
03:49and making money through cars so yeah that's why and uh for international women's day the theme was
03:56accelerating action you know and as a woman that is in the automotive industry how are you accelerating
04:03action in that space especially when it comes to gender you know has your gender impacted your
04:08experience in that industry whether it be positive or negative it has it has and um i always begin
04:15with the negative because most men will walk into the dealership and wonder why are you here what are you
04:21supposed to do are you running the show so i'm like yes i run the show and i am in this space not only
04:27by accident but i'm in this space because i've worked so hard to be in it and i know a bit about
04:33all cars if not all but at least 90 percent of the cars on the road i know more about them that
04:39than a typical man would so yeah i own it wow amazing mo should tell you a fun fact about herself
04:46in terms of cars and what she'd love to do in her next life maybe she might achieve it in this life
04:51wow uh maybe this is the reason why we met oh yes maybe we can tell them how we met how you make
04:58connections uh for anyone who doesn't um know maybe you can feel how you put yourself out there how um
05:06you know i create a space and vice versa uh to bloom what we have bloomed and how that has also morphed
05:14into what we do as elite women and sister speaks beyond the personal you know you are just in my crown
05:21so weirdly um maybe just to touch a bit on how we met um i'm in the space of creating and curating
05:30spaces rather creating events where women come in and feel empowered and i cannot fill their cups
05:37without filling mine so i went for a heels connect event and that's how i met more in the bathroom
05:46by the way and it was more of like this energy of like sis um i was trying to fix her crown and she
05:52let me do it so as i actively network and put myself out there in these spaces i try as much as possible
06:00but to also create the space and make it very intentional so that i help women grow and connect
06:06and network as well oh my god yeah absolutely if you're looking for genuine friendships and people
06:12who are just your crown look no further even in the bathroom yes now now men know what happens in
06:19um so we were talking about elite women and just to say the comment i wanted to make is that mo would
06:33love to be a rally driver at one point in her life and that's why you have father connections beyond
06:39just how you look today so yeah watch out
06:43so she might achieve it in this life you never know might oh coming soon on the lookout yes i love
06:53it africa giant will be the sponsor there yes um so yeah so as you mentioned you talked about elite
07:01women um so you have an event coming up in april called graceful transitions yes before we go into
07:09one of the key topics will be about menopause but before you tell us about the event
07:13i want to ask you all who taught you about menopause have you ever had a discussion about
07:20menopause or did you go and google and checked and did you know men get their version
07:26i did not know that about men getting their version called andropause really oh andropause
07:34or something learn something new every day um menopause i feel like it was just always a word in
07:39the background growing up but i didn't really know what it was you know you hear your auntie's like oh
07:43chat is too hot in here and you're like huh um but otherwise surprisingly i feel like i did learn
07:49about menopause in depth from one of our guest speakers one of our former guest speakers amina
07:54farah which is a friend to uh lush but i feel like that's when i intentionally began to understand
08:00what it is the different varieties that exist and that it doesn't only affect old women sometimes
08:07there is something called perimenopause that does affect younger women yeah um so i learned about it
08:13as an adult when you did when we did the show did you go and ask your mom did you did yeah any of you
08:18um not really have you ever had a had a conversation with your mom about no but my sister was my sister
08:24has naomi naomi's always like mom is that when you have an attitude are you on menopause
08:29anyone that knows my sister knows that naomi's really spicy so wow yes shout out to naomi
08:36um i think for me i'm i'm very invested in women's health uh just because of my lived experience as a
08:45woman and even with um some certain disorders um that made me kind of go deeper into research
08:54what would what what would happen to me at a certain age um so we do menstrual hygiene and health
09:01uh for girls and women in low-income communities uh we most of the time we do sensitization around
09:08menstrual health but sometimes we'd share with them like it's not normal to have like two periods in a
09:14year so in that journey i think i made it my mission to understand as much as we are talking
09:20to the girls uh you know what that does journey look like all the way to you know menopause but my
09:28first rub and attitude was my mom's uh it has i think it was perimenopause but kind of late-ish
09:37um because she started like bleeding for months and months and she never told anyone so she became
09:44anemic and before you know it we took her to hospital and the next thing they're saying she
09:49has to go through his rectum but unfortunately they that there were doctors that understood her
09:56condition they're like you don't have to go through that and they gave her like an injection
10:01for like three cycles and it stopped so i didn't know there was like an induced menopause
10:08hmm i didn't know yeah kind of like relieved her symptoms because mom i love you but we were
10:17dealing with you you deal with like angry you know very fragile um like always almost nappy like almost
10:29like anything can can can fly on your head yeah interesting i didn't know about that like getting
10:35induced yeah it's either an injection that stops the the the the flow the cycle yeah or you have to
10:44surgically just remove the uterus yeah because she was bleeding and it would have been dangerous for
10:49her yes and i think that's an intervention that we are seeing more women go for because
10:54um in kenya you cannot afford hormonal therapy which is more accessible in the west um so i think
11:03it's an important conversation even us in our 30s we need to understand what's happening in our bodies
11:08how do we prepare ourselves um yesterday i was reading um an article on the importance of building
11:16your muscles when you're young eating enough protein it will help you as as a woman when you grow older
11:24because um another statistic was more women are when they are older because of um less dense density of
11:33mass density they are susceptible to injuries so you find like a show show says oh i dislocated my hip
11:42yes that's something that has been pestering on for a long time so i think uh what you're trying to
11:47do is very important and such information uh it needs to come out and be told that's why they encourage
11:54women especially because women are less gym fanatics to do a lot more weight lifting exactly and you and
12:01it's i encourage you actually start that from 40 if you're not doing it before to start it more
12:08frequently so that by the time that you're you know that season of your life uh spicy m is what we're
12:15gonna call her uh spicy m um so when you're in that season then you have a lot more um understanding
12:25where did you learn your uh it's so weird because um my first encounter was uh late last year no mid last
12:35year 20 that's 2024 i went for a wellness event and i met this amazing lady who told me oh wait sorry
12:42last year yeah okay well i've heard about menopause yeah in the background actually i only knew about
12:49menopause i did not know there's post this pre and now perry yes so with that interaction with this
12:56amazing lady she told me oh i experienced it and i had to do something about it because i didn't know
13:01what was happening and i thought it was m it was menopause i wanted to say the big m so yeah um that
13:07was the first interaction and then now my mom last year things got really bad for her health wise her bp
13:14was way over the roof so trying to understand what is happening and what is going on and imagine
13:21trying to tell your mom mom you need to see a gynecologist you need to do this and her she's thinking
13:26oh my god this this is this is not this is not normal why is my daughter asking me to and i kept telling
13:32her you need to start seeing a gynecologist more often than not now yeah so yeah that was like the
13:38first-hand experience and you know when uh an empathetic person you feel everything yeah
13:44it's like i'm really feeling like oh my god every time i would feel hot i'll be like
13:50your mom and your mom probably doesn't know what's happening
13:54no one talks teaches you especially from an african context so there's also unique things that
13:58we experience that maybe in the west you know they're not experiencing yeah it's true
14:03all feelers like firstborn daughters we always carry the pain yeah it's crazy oh are we oh yeah
14:10you are yeah so even just seeing her go through it and thinking oh my god i need to find a doctor
14:16i need to at some point i almost brought her to can i mention her name dr sula yeah yes so i thought
14:23of even seeking dr sula's um assistant assistance but then again we managed to find a solution she's now
14:29on supplements okay she's and accepting that spicy m is is here to stay well this is what is happening
14:36even at some point my husband was like you know you need to tell your mom that this is what is
14:39happening just like how do you even know i love that i love that your husband knows that because then
14:44even when it's your season he'll know what to expect so the first time the first time i had the
14:50conversation about spicy m is properly properly like understanding it's as mo said you know of course you
14:57know that that's something that's gonna come and we were talking to girls at the time but i wanted to
15:02know because in school they do ask you um so i've started my periods when will it stop and i love that
15:10question and i find it so hilarious because you're so excited wanting to get your periods and then you
15:14tell them you've got about 40 years plus to go and they're like what um so i wanted to understand what
15:23what does that feel like because i you know we understood her symptoms and so she told us about
15:30the you know having a dry vagina that's why you have to buy the cream so that you can
15:35for lubrication purposes and intimacy purposes as well and then the heat god the heat
15:42i don't know if i want that side and it's actually a video that went viral of a lady in america
15:49in and in the states right it's winter and she's cold and she's steaming yeah there's a lady the
15:57other day who's like oh yeah i'm experiencing my private summer yes yes someone called it
16:03someone called it uh over the weekend climate their own personal climate action
16:10their own global warming yeah um when you talked about the dry vagina experience do you remember the
16:15story that was going around about holly berry this is a woman in the west that has the best doctors
16:20you know she can afford she's in hollywood yes but the doctor went and said that she had like a std when
16:25in reality she was actually experiencing symptoms of menopause yeah but i think it's called vaginal
16:30atrophy that's when you lose your apparently the territories disappear yes it does yes yes yes yes yes
16:40yep during menopause yes yes there's so much that happens so i remember like my my me and my sister
16:47were so dramatized how do we have a break as women never that's exactly it and i said multiple stages
16:54of like uh puberty i guess you could call it you know different stages of puberty and this is just
16:59another one of those stages yeah so that's exactly it i said to mom so basically i only had my first 10
17:05years to enjoy life so literally i'm going to struggle with periods i'm going to struggle with
17:14periods and then i'm going to struggle with some of the the you know the symptoms that you're going
17:18for and then what's so interesting is i won't mention but i have a relative who went that had a
17:24different version of symptoms so also understanding that whatever i experience might not be the same
17:30and then the thing that gets me i think about spicy m is that it can go on for years for a decade
17:38right and it can come earlier so the other lesson i learned um because i have a relative who's
17:43experienced it as perimenopause so also just being like this could happen even before i have had children
17:51so again important to keep getting checked you know and all that um so as as mo mentioned it's really
17:58great that you're having um an event that focuses on graceful transitioning please tell us like the
18:06inspiration and also what can people expect on the day who are the speakers i'll be the moderator just
18:13you know what i put out there and the inspiration why graceful transitions because transitions like
18:19menopause people will be like oh there's nothing graceful about it yeah so why did you use that name yeah
18:26so what inspired graceful transitions is the fact that women are transitioning from one stage to another
18:34especially um personal stuff like hormonal imbalancing hormonal changes um aging as well and these
18:44are transitions that are part of our life so just going through these um stages without um tools that
18:51can help us just understand what is happening with our bodies and what to do when certain things happen
18:58is what made us feel like we need to be in a space where we are not only empowering women who are
19:03specifically and for a reason especially because of our target audience for elite women we feel like
19:07sometimes we relate to the age of 23 to about 35 but what happens to women who are over 35 to about 50 and 60.
19:18and these are the women we look up to for mentorship and when you meet your mentor you wonder okay
19:22what's happening with my mentor today so what's with the mood what's with the mood but it's because
19:27they don't have a space where they can come in and talk about their transitions and how can they
19:33um experience this and experience it gracefully and the reason for graceful transitions is because we want
19:39people to especially women to more so embrace confidence during these stages and know it's and
19:47demystify that it's not growing old it's you getting to another stage and doing it with so much grace
19:54other than just confusion and uh claiming age old age i'm not great old by the way just thought to put it
20:03out there so that women understand it's not growing old it's you getting to another season and how do you
20:09get into that season with a community yeah community evolution actually is a good word what so how did the
20:16name graceful come why do you why do you consider to yeah so yeah um at first it was seasons and then we
20:23realized there are so many seasons and within the seasons that there are transitions so how do we go
20:29through these transitions and the theme for this month especially for not for this month but for
20:33this year for elite is um femininity grace and strength so how can i do all that gracefully as i
20:41get into this season of my life yes okay tell us a little bit more about the day like what what else is
20:48there because so what you guys if you've not attended an elite women may this be your first um they usually
20:55have um outside of just the panel they have they're spicy i'm not going to let the cut off the back when
21:03it comes to that part of things however it's gonna be a surprise but um what to expect if you are
21:10attending you're going to come into a space um a very well curated event that is curated for you to come and
21:18learn um come here from very well hand-picked speakers who have um gone through life and have
21:27experienced different things especially when it comes to menopause these speakers have made sure
21:32their voice is heard out there they are doing something about it and they are not letting i call
21:38her spicy m rather sassy m and not letting sassy m get uh you into a corner that you don't want to speak
21:46out so um i could name the speakers yes please have amina amina is gonna be under yes she's amazing
21:54she's the founder of fabulous living we are going to have dr kenya who's been very vocal about menopause
21:59and perimenopause we have a rushka who also started her own platform over the circle yes i know her for
22:06the hair the hair so she started the same something close to the same and hers is more of a community that
22:13covers the big m and the sassy m and how to go through it and um someone who's in the wellness
22:21side um we're going to name her yet okay but i believe uh she's going to come on board and she's
22:27going to work with us and help us understand wellness and fitness and what it means to be fit during
22:33these transitions and um yeah that's pretty much what to expect we always have a very interesting
22:39activity during the day so for this particular one we might have something a bit different so that
22:45we are able to really fully understand what menopause very menopause post menopause and pre-menopause
22:51is yeah the diversity of your speakers awesome yeah and and i love the aspect of bringing like
23:00sort of like a cross-generational learning uh because these are women who are already
23:05experienced experiencing the menopause then the power of lived experience is a game changer yeah
23:11so i can't wait hope to see you there yes how can people get the tickets how much are the tickets
23:19if you got any special offers by any chance so yeah we might but anyways uh how you can get your ticket
23:26is by checking out our um hustle sasa shop so it's elite women at hustle sasa shop oh so many asses
23:35and um the tickets are going for five thousand five hundred the ticket not only covers um the
23:40a three course four course meal but it covers so much more in terms of even getting to listen to
23:47these um amazing women who are going to be part of this panel and um we do have a ticket that is for
23:54besties going for ten thousand nice and a corporate table for companies that want to invest in their
24:01women i like that i like that so much i like the corporate idea and taking even treating their
24:07employees of the month yes yes awesome it's a way for companies and corporates to invest in their women
24:15help them transition gracefully through these stages perfect thank you thank you so much christine
24:22it's just been such a fulfilling conversation a graceful conversation and like she said you know
24:28approaching sassy m and getting to know sassy m should not be scary um so to all of our overreactors
24:33out there listening you know slide in our dm and let us know what is a graceful transition look like for
24:38you and make sure that you follow us on all our platforms at sister speaks 254 and make sure that you
24:45tune into capital fm on wednesday at 10 p.m to listen to us live and also catch us on our youtube
24:52pages via capital fm and also on sister speaks global platforms but before we wrap it up you
24:58have to first lead by sharing what's your version of a graceful transition um i think i would have to
25:05say my version of a graceful transition is embracing the journey and also just being able to reflect and
25:13and give myself grace you know like christine said it's all about giving yourself grace and changing that
25:20negative connotation that's attached to it and and seeing the good and evolving i think my mind is
25:28that fresh breath of air when you are on top of a mountain that you never thought you'd ever like
25:35sammy when you look back and you see oh my god i conquered that mountain that that's just breath of air
25:43like fresh air the the power that you feel conquering that and they have been there has been a lot of
25:50mountains so um i think that's what my graceful transition has been or are how about you um mine
25:59is moving through life with with self-awareness and confidence pretty much it i just want to be
26:05very aware and very intentional as i transition i watched this video i think i shared with with you
26:12about this lady i remember her name for the love of god but she is 103 and has a spectacular sound
26:22mind has written books so for me number one which i've shared already um in their platform is sound
26:29mind for me is so important and because i've had a grandfather who i have never had an any conversation
26:37really because he's had dementia for almost 20 years um so for me sound mind is important that's why
26:44that's where that kind of stems from moving physically i've seen what that can mean for even
26:51somebody who's young and is sick and for whatever reason can't move so it's about getting this transition
26:58is about me getting my body tight and looking right yes and um yeah just being healthy to be honest
27:06healthy sound mind that's my vibe and maintaining girlfriends because i think they help yeah so
27:13community for me um we are we are so excited i'm really excited to moderate this conversation and
27:19i expect us to be there um maybe before we end it how can people get to connect with you personally and
27:29also elite women um my personal handle is chris one chris mudoni and for elite women is elite women ke
27:38that's across all platforms um linkedin um instagram facebook do we have x no but we have tiktok yes
27:48oh you do finally didn't have it last year we've had tiktok for a while is it still
27:54elite women ke yes it is okay so there you have it you can find them on instagram you can find them
27:59on linkedin you can find them on tiktok and you can find madam car boss yes um as christine madoni on
28:07linkedin as well right yes awesome it's been so nice having you oh my goodness this was so flawless oh
28:13i feel like i'm at ease yes oh and that's all about overreact oh i probably reacted
28:22yeah this year we are just overreacting calmly
28:27ladies and gentlemen um thank you so much for tuning in uh it's been a graceful conversation thank
28:32you so much for sharing your journey with us and we will continue to overreact so ladies let's overreact
28:51you
