Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon and welcome to another edition of Five Things to Do Next Week
00:07
Across Central Lancashire and the Fouled Coast. First up in Preston, the Lancashire Science
00:14
Festival returns to the University of Central Lancashire on Saturday May 17th. This is a
00:20
biannual celebration of all things science, technology, engineering and maths which aims
00:27
to infuse, inform and inspire the next generation with a spectacular showcase of the wonders of STEM.
00:34
Running between 9am and 4pm, Lancashire Science Festival is free to attend but you must book a
00:40
ticket online. A small number of workshops do however cost £1.50 but all proceed to go to the
00:47
University's Harris Bursary Fund. The comedian Tom Lawrenson is then bringing his new show Buried
00:56
Alive and Loving It to the Chorley Theatre on Friday May 16th. Everything is awful but that's okay,
01:03
argues Tom in his ridiculously entertaining show about family and growing up in a Spanish subterranean cave.
01:11
Buried Alive and Loving It promises to be for siblings who shared a rubbish childhood
01:16
and comedy fans alike. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are still available costing £16.
01:25
Over on the Fouled Coast, Pig Heart Boy is on at the Blackpool Grand Theatre between Wednesday May 14th
01:31
and Friday May 16th. This is a bold and beautiful stage adaption of the 1997 novel from multi-award
01:38
winning writer Mallory Blackman OBA. Pig Heart Boy explores the thought-provoking themes of childhood
01:45
illness, identity and profound choices we make to survive. Tickets start from £15.50 with group and
01:53
concession rates available. Also in Blackpool, the Blackpool Dance Festival starts on Saturday May 17th
02:03
and continues until Friday May 30th. Taking place at the Winter Gardens and covering a period of 13 days,
02:10
the May Blackpool Dance Festival is by far the largest of the five festivals held in Blackpool.
02:16
The festival covers ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships
02:22
for adult, amateur and professional couples, plus formation teams. Tickets are £45.75.
02:32
Finally, in Livingston Anne's, Fairhaven Lake is hosting a Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday May 17th.
02:40
The charity boat race raises money for the Blue Skies charity at Blackpool Teaching Hospital's NHS
02:46
Foundation Trust. Running between 10am and 4pm, the event sold out last year, so be quick
02:52
if you want to take part in the race this year. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or a newcomer
02:57
eager to experience the thrill for the first time, the festival promises to be an unforgettable adventure
03:03
that will make your heart beat like a drum. It's up to 17 people in a boat,
03:08
with registration costing £425 per team, which is £25 per person, and the minimum sponsorship
03:16
required by boat is £850, which is £50 per person. So there are five top things to do next week.
03:24
What was Heather you up to? Have a good one.
