Authorities have recovered the body of a person killed in a house fire on Queensland’s Darling Downs. The blaze tore through the home at Harristown in Toowoomba early this morning. Two adults and four children managed to escape the fire, but all remain in hospital.
00:00Police have now confirmed that a person has been located deceased inside the remains of this fire behind me.
00:09Now, it's important to note that earlier this morning, the ABC did report that one child that was inside this house has not been accounted for.
00:18However, police are still yet to formally identify the identity of this person that has been discovered.
00:24Earlier this morning, Detective Inspector Renee Garsky addressed the media about the current state of investigations.
00:30Here's some of what she had to say.
00:31We have the crime scene established at this stage and we're working through our investigations with our scientific personnel.
00:38It will be a meticulous investigation, utilising all resources available to us to be able to ensure that we're able to provide an accurate picture of what's occurred.
00:48This part of Toowoomba is a very quiet place with a lot of young families about, so everyone is obviously very shaken up.
00:56A number of neighbours have been coming around to touch base on some of the other people who live in the nearby homes here just to see if they are OK.
01:03They are really just in shock, wondering what has happened here.
01:08And as police have said just there, this is still early stages of this investigation and they will be looking into whether or not the fire was deliberately lit
01:18and whether factors such as domestic violence have also played any sort of effect in this particular sad incident.
01:24So, if we don't see any sort of effects outside of what happens, there is that the fire being senteaseral, the fire being neutral or the fire that is completely unstable.
