00:00Let's check in with markets in Toronto today.

00:06Canada's main stock index rose on Monday as investors stayed cautious

00:10ahead of the general election happening in Canada,

00:13influenced by US President Donald Trump's trade war.

00:16Election results will start coming in from eastern to western provinces

00:20after polls close at staggered times this evening.

00:23Investors are gearing up for the busiest period of the Q1 earnings season

00:27with more than 180 S&P 500 companies set to report their results.

00:31They are also closely watching for any progress in trade negotiations, especially with China.

00:36As for the indices themselves, the TSX was up 88 points by close,

00:41while the venture lost just over half a point.

00:43The Dow was up 114 points, and the NASDAQ lost 5.

00:51Looking at the top gaining stocks in the TSX today,

00:54we had M Split Corp up 62%,

00:57I80 Gold Corp added 33%,

00:59and Enthusiast Gaming was up 18%.

01:07The stocks that saw the biggest drop were the top loser today,

01:10XRO Technology gave up 25%,

01:12TerraGo lost almost 20%,

01:14and Firefly Metals snuffed out 12.5%.
