00:00all right from that little nine-year-old to this incredible eight-year-old he sat down

00:11with a reporter in oklahoma about surviving an ef4 tornado that hit his hometown this little

00:21kid is amazing he's been through it right yeah but he's got such a great attitude and he's so

00:29well spoken his name is river and here he is talking to cbs news about surviving an ef4 tornado again

00:37he's eight years old i'm just really happy that you can tell me and help me understand what a

00:45tornado is like you know it not only does it does it hurt some people but it also kind of brings the

00:53community together doesn't it yeah it's kind of weird um it was like it was devastating because

01:02we had f4 and you see all this this is our a lot like a lot of people came in here and cleaned up

01:10but it's not even half finished he's 26 now our family our family didn't get hurt good that's good

01:17to know but it's kind of sad to know that other families did get hurt also they get hurt really bad

01:25your life is a little bit different now than it was before it doesn't even feel like the same place

01:31like it was crazy i was in tears like because i expect this much damage it's just so random the way

01:38tornadoes hit places yeah like one house is damaged like ours and then the other house over there

01:44barely damaged they said it was two miles away so maybe the tip of it hit our house i'm i'm just happy

01:52there's nothing really to be happy about because the house but it's just you can be happy yeah well a

02:02little bit there are things to be happy that you still have your mimi yeah yeah i'm just happy to

02:08be that everybody's safe is that hard not having your room that you used to know

02:16yeah one of my robot toys things survived but i said i said my mom said and i said to myself

02:26that i can't make this about me

02:29are you kidding this kid looks at life like most of the people i know in my my whole circle of

02:38anyone don't look at life the way this kid does eight years old they don't

02:43they don't have the self-reflection the ability to like look at things outside the box like

02:50take things in and count your blessings most people don't know how this little kid knows

02:57he has a really advanced perspective on things i said to myself i can't make this about me

03:02yeah like no one like who have you ever heard anyone in your life even say that no

03:07it's always about them it's always hearing it from his parents right he must yes his parents

03:14must be brilliant yeah they must be well they gave him robots he probably built them but he's

03:19incredible here's more but it is about you a little bit because you survived an ef4 tornado don't ruin

03:27him and your family loves you and you're here to tell this story yeah a lot of people said that

03:36they're happy that i'm still alive and i can tell the story about people i'm happy i can though

03:45because just to tell everybody how it was like and stuff how the past was

03:52were you able to go to your last days how the past was

03:58yes he reincarnated he might be he might be absolutely he's like an old grandpa sitting

04:06on the porch telling his tales but he's eight this kid is eight years old eight just thinking

04:13well how has it changed well last day of school was after the tornado too like a couple days after

04:20nobody knew in my class about the tornado i was like huh like the teacher was like oh hello and kind

04:28of mad that i didn't finish my homework i was like did you see what happened that is a good excuse

04:34you know i've heard some bad i didn't do my homework excuses but that's a pretty good one

04:40do you have one wish for the future

04:43well i wish that like all this is like gone we have a new house a new house that we can

04:55just live in we need to get used it's gonna take a while to get used to but i hope this all gets

05:02cleaned up and you have a new house you want this part to be over like that yeah you just want to get

05:07to the point where you have a new house yeah to like the the future so you don't have to think

05:12about it anymore you need a time machine yeah yeah yeah well thank you river for talking to us

05:18thank you for telling your story it's tough that they sent a moron adult

05:24no but i mean in in comparison like it should have been like i don't know what famous reporter

05:33it should have been that was on equal level wit with that child that was like a 2020 interview

05:38yeah exactly with an eight-year-old yeah he's like that's crazy just got these two tires that i

05:44don't know yeah things are bad oh my god guys it blew i watched it this morning it blew me away i

05:55couldn't believe that i see stuff like that and i'm like oh man my kids are dumb oh man my kids are

06:02really actually stupid oh they're so so so dumb huh look he has on life eight-year-olds don't have

06:09that no they don't no they don't well he has empathy for everyone else yeah sympathy he's

06:14so important he was i feel like he was waiting to be like ask me a good question what kind of

06:18question that's what i'm saying like the guy was like yo don't you need a time machine he's like

06:22shut up yeah i'm working on building one upstairs yeah he's like shut up man those don't exist

06:32just you want me to go back and just live it again that would be great

06:36i want to make this about myself yeah holy crap thank god he lived he's probably gonna go on to

06:44do something pretty cool i hope he's gotta get out of oklahoma oh yeah yeah yeah after that yeah yeah
