00:00
We are back live in our WDHA Miller Lite Studios with the one and only.
00:04
And everybody missed all those stories we just talked about.
00:07
We were just telling some great stories off the...
00:09
Well, we were talking about Anton Figg and your love for just hearing his drumming.
00:15
And you said that originally there was somebody else on 10,000 volts.
00:18
But in your mind, Ace, you heard Anton and you were like, you know what?
00:22
I got to call him.
00:23
Well, I know it was a special song.
00:23
Yeah, yeah.
00:24
And I said to Steve, you know, let's get the best drummer in the world as far as I'm concerned.
00:31
And we gave it to Anton.
00:32
And, you know, what was it?
00:34
The eighth take?
00:35
Yep.
00:36
Take eight.
00:36
He goes, take eight.
00:37
On that video.
00:38
It's on social media.
00:39
I saw it.
00:40
I saw it on Insta.
00:42
It was magic.
00:44
You know, and again, we had Joey Quesada, who's our drummer with the Eric and CJ and I.
00:48
He's a great drummer too.
00:48
And Trickster and Eric Martin.
00:49
Take away from him.
00:50
And Joey played on half the record.
00:52
But there are certain things where Anton and Ace have such a chemistry.
00:55
You know, Ace is the guy who discovered Anton Figg back when Anton was in the band Spider.
01:00
And there's something about the way Anton plays.
01:03
They don't even have to.
01:04
Ace just goes, Anton, do your thing.
01:07
And Anton knows exactly what to do to make the song.
01:11
Yeah, we played so many.
01:12
He recorded, what, four or five albums together?
01:15
Yeah.
01:16
Yeah.
01:16
He was in Kiss for one day.
01:18
Yeah.
01:18
Right.
01:19
I remember reading that, you know.
01:21
Oh, are we live again?
01:23
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:24
Yeah.
01:24
When they decided to let Peter go because of, you know, what issues he was having, be that
01:31
as it may, they knew I was working with Anton on my demos.
01:36
And also, he played on all the tracks on my solo albums with New York Group.
01:42
So, they said to me, why don't we get, I said, why don't we have Anton take over Peter's job
01:49
since he was, so, you know, really want to make a change.
01:54
So, they looked at me and they said, sure.
01:56
So, I called up Anton, I said, you're in Kiss.
02:00
He goes, are you kidding?
02:02
I go, yeah.
02:03
Paul and Jean just agreed to have you join Kiss.
02:07
Then the next day, they called me up and they said, you know, we've been doing some thinking
02:11
and we know that you and Anton left to party together.
02:14
Oh.
02:16
So, they said, that might be a little too much.
02:19
So, he was out.
02:20
Did you tell him?
02:20
They said, we're going to do auditions.
02:23
And then we ended up getting out of a car.
02:25
Yeah.
02:26
Did you have to call him and tell him that, Ace?
02:28
I had to call him.
02:28
You had to call him.
02:29
And give me the bad news.
02:30
I don't know how many people he called.
02:33
Well, Anton also, you know, Anton played on Dynasty.
02:36
He played on Dynasty.
02:37
Yes, yes.
02:37
And he played drums on Unmask.
02:38
Yep.
02:39
So, he's done well for himself.
02:41
But we love Anton.
02:42
And one of the coolest things about the Anton thing was when we were talking about getting
02:45
Anton, we were at my house and I just made grilled chicken and asparagus for me and Ace.
02:51
And just so you know, Ace likes a lot of butter on his vegetables and his chicken.
02:55
So, he goes, Steve, give me more butter.
02:57
And I go, dude, we got to call Anton.
03:00
So, Ace calls Anton, leaves a message.
03:03
I kid you not, two minutes later, the phone rings and it's just the three of us in my kitchen.
03:07
Well, the two of us, the phone rings.
03:09
Hey, Ace, it's Anton.
03:10
And on speakerphone and I'm sitting there and again, little fanboy moment.
03:15
I'm like the eight-year-old kid in me is like, you got to be kidding me.
03:18
And they're talking about, hey, Ace goes, hey, Anton, I want you to meet Steve.
03:22
Here he is.
03:22
He's on the phone.
03:23
He wants you to play on the record.
03:25
And we got this great, and it was just surreal for me in one of those moments.
03:29
Surreal.
03:29
And you know, everybody knows Anton because even if you don't know everything that he's
03:33
played on, I mean, he was in the late night with Letterman Band for so many years.
03:36
And you've seen him and you know him.
03:38
And I mean, he's just such a part, such an iconic part.
03:41
And I love those musicians, those working musicians who are an iconic part of everything.
03:45
And yet everybody may not know who they are.
03:48
So, I mean, I just think it's so special when I saw that he was on.
03:51
I keep forgetting, you know, I'm so old.
03:52
And when I talk to people, I expect them to know the stuff I know.
03:56
I was talking to Lars Kiz and we were watching The Wizard of Oz.
04:00
And I said, you know, the guy in the Beverly Hillbillies, he was originally going to be
04:05
the Tin Man, but he had an allergic reaction to the silver makeup.
04:09
And they go, who's the Beverly Hillbillies?
04:11
I'm surprised they knew The Wizard of Oz.
04:13
I've never seen that show.
04:15
You know, I keep forgetting the generation gap, but it was cute.
04:18
Because Ace, you're like a 19-year-old guy now.
04:22
Yeah.
04:22
You know.
04:23
He still is.
04:24
I'm on a plane now and like, I'll ask a stewardess who doesn't know who I am.
04:28
How old do you think I am?
04:29
And she'll go 55.
04:31
There you go.
04:33
I have to pull out my license, you know.
04:35
That's so funny.
04:36
I'm a little older than that.
04:37
That is so funny.
04:38
You're 25 for life, man.
04:39
So I'm a little kid.
04:40
Music keeps you young.
04:42
I'm convinced of that.
04:43
All right.
04:43
I'm going to take another quick break and then we'll come back.
04:47
And I'm going to do a couple of listener questions and play some more tunes in.
04:51
Because there's some good questions here.
04:53
Otis hit me up and Debbie D's in Philadelphia and Michael.
04:58
So chatting a little bit more.
05:00
I want to talk also about Don't Let Me Forget the Carteret Pack Show.
05:03
Yes.
05:04
Because that's coming up.
05:04
So I want to promote that.
05:05
I want to talk about that a little more as we are hanging out with the iconic, the legendary,
05:09
the one and only Ace Frehley live in the WDHA studio.
05:11
That's the same thing.
05:17
That's the same thing.
05:18
I want to talk about how you are hanging out with the subscribe button.
