00:00So, you may not want to eat for this next segment that we're going to be talking about.
00:04Oh, man.
00:07Kathy told us last night on a little phone call, and she prefaced this by saying,
00:15I want to share something with you guys.
00:17And he goes, she says, because we're family, and we can talk about these things.
00:20By the way, Casey was not on the call at this point, so this is going to be a surprise for her.
00:25He called the end of it.
00:26I go, what did I just walk into, and you guys said, just wait until tomorrow.
00:30I said, okay.
00:31So, you want to try something out, I believe?
00:35Yeah, I want to try something out.
00:36And when I say we're family, I mean us in the room and everyone that listens to the show.
00:40Right, exactly.
00:40Right?
00:41So, I'm going to try a menstrual cup.
00:43Oh, man.
00:45A menstrual cup.
00:46Wow.
00:47A cup.
00:48I'm so surprised.
00:50A cup.
00:50Me too.
00:51And no small part, because your reaction, anytime Preston has ever brought this up, is just complete revulsion.
00:59And so, like, the fact that you're coming around on it, and I've heard a lot of people rave about it, I'm proud of you.
01:05I think that's, like, a step in the right direction.
01:07Yes.
01:07I didn't even know they still existed.
01:09I thought this was a thing from years ago.
01:12Now, listen, I don't know.
01:13I don't know nothing about menstrual cup and all that, but it seems antiquated to me.
01:19Well, so I think it's becoming a little more popular because they're saying that there's benefits to it.
01:24It's safer than wearing a tampon.
01:26It holds more, so you can go throughout the day, you know, without having to change it.
01:32It's better for the environment, things like that.
01:33Okay, so when you're saying it holds more, are we talking, like, a quart or what?
01:37Well, Steve, I haven't used it yet, so I don't know, and that's part of my issue.
01:42I wanted to, I'm hoping that Mother Nature, the flow, kind of goes along and I get it on the weekend because I'd love to try it not having to come to work.
01:51Well, you had mentioned in passing last night that that was one of the things they mentioned.
01:55Don't take your first cup out for a spin while you're going into work.
01:59Yeah, so apparently, yeah, so I'm on a group text with my girlfriends and I think that three out of the five of us use it, and they were, like, raving about it.
02:12Go for it.
02:12No, you have to.
02:13Here's the one I use.
02:14Here's the one I use.
02:15There's, you know, different options out there.
02:17Do they have yetis?
02:19So me and the one girl who don't use it, you know, we were like, okay, well, what's, like, give us the, what should we do?
02:26And the suggestions were don't try to take it out the first time, at least, or until you get used to it, anywhere but your own home and possibly even the shower.
02:35Okay, not at the mall.
02:37Right, like, well, that's what I'm worried about, you know.
02:39Not on all white Wednesdays.
02:41Well, and so my other, all white Wednesday, my other issue is, yeah, how much does it hold?
02:45So, again, so as Preston said, we don't know, you know, nothing about this, and I, too, thought it was something like an antiquated, you know, turn of the last century sort of thing.
02:57But, so I do understand that it's probably, you know, very safe.
03:04The purpose is, will it stop any flow?
03:09Will it?
03:10Well, yes.
03:10So it basically dams it up, correct?
03:12Yeah, it holds it, so when you take it out, it's still there, and you have to, you know, clean your cup and stuff like that.
03:19I never see, you don't see ads for the, you know what I mean?
03:22Like, like, tampon commercials are a regular thing.
03:25The cup might be too much for, like, a television commercial.
03:30I know why we were talking about this.
03:31I had a bizarre final story of a guy who was drinking tequila out of the way.
03:36He thought it was a shot glass, and it was a menstrual cup, and his girlfriend or wife had posted it online, and that's how we got talking about it.
03:45Okay, so I don't know, Kathy, listen, we don't know nothing about menstrual cycles here, but how many pints will you, on a heavy flow day?
03:54How many pints?
03:55How many gallons?
03:55I'm not measuring them.
03:56Okay.
03:57I don't know.
03:58That's the problem, because these menstrual cups are, they're not huge.
04:02No.
04:02I mean, I'm guessing they're made for the average, to hold the average woman's stuff.
04:06Okay, so in the demonstration we're looking at here, Kathy, the woman dips a tampon down into some which we assume is actual blood.
04:13I don't think it's blood.
04:15I think it's probably water.
04:16Well, it obviously then, it becomes larger, and that's, so it basically serves as a plug.
04:23I mean, you would do this, you would do this every, for how many days during your normal cycle?
04:28Cycle.
04:29Like the tampons, you mean?
04:30Yeah, like four or five days?
04:31Yeah, I mean, yeah, excuse me, it depends.
04:34And do you pour that into a larger jug that you keep by the front door?
04:37But like, it's so.
04:38It's like my belly button lint click.
04:40Ew.
04:41I haven't started.
04:41Oh, good, thank you.
04:42Please talk.
04:43The other thing is, and I've watched videos, and not graphic videos, like the videos that we're watching here of how to put it in place.
04:51Right, right.
04:51And how many guys do you need to help?
04:53Well, I know.
04:54I mean, honestly.
04:55I have my mom come over and help.
04:56For the video that we're watching, it's not, they don't have to use a blood red liquid.
05:02They could use, like, a blue liquid.
05:04Well, I think they're trying to be accurate.
05:07We don't need blue.
05:08Just so you know.
05:09No, you're thinking of the Smurf cup.
05:11But, like, when they do, like, diaper commercials, they don't, like, use brown water.
05:15You know, they use a blue water.
05:16It's a little icky for Casey.
05:17Yeah, I see in the red.
05:18Do you know what brand you're going to go for, Kath?
05:20Well, so here's the thing.
05:21I purchased one.
05:23I just went to Target, and I purchased the one at Target.
05:25It's called, like, a Himalayan salt menstrual cup.
05:28However, there's, my girlfriend uses a site called Lola, and this is sort of, like, environmentally safe, you know, chemical-free type of products for women.
05:38And so I may order one from here, Nick, and try this one.
05:42Lola.
05:42Well, because here's the thing.
05:43There's different ones, and the one from Target has, like, um...
05:47Lola.
05:48Because what I've also heard is it can kind of...
05:50You might have to, like, dig around a little to get it out.
05:53Bad choice of words.
05:55Well, somebody texted in.
05:56And by the way, we're getting a lot of positive response from women listeners.
05:59Yes.
05:59Male listeners...
06:00Not so much.
06:01Not as much.
06:01Sorry.
06:02I don't think we understand it, but...
06:03Well, so one of the female listeners recommended, Kathy, that there's one with a longer tip at the bottom of it.
06:09So that's what I was worried about, that that's going to be uncomfortable.
06:12Yeah.
06:12Also, Casey, there's a great documentary that you should watch.
06:15It's called Period, End of Sentence.
06:16I feel like I watched it, or...
06:18No, it won a bunch of...
06:19I was going to say Grammys.
06:20Oscars and stuff, right?
06:21Yeah, and I believe one of the producers is local.
06:23Oh, really?
06:24Yeah, and it's about something that happens to half of the population on the planet.
06:28Yeah, yeah.
06:28And so it really just dives into...
06:31I might want to watch it.
06:32Period, end of story?
06:33Period, end of sentence.
06:34Period, end of sentence.
06:35Yeah.
06:36Are you thinking of the sequel?
06:36Yeah.
06:37I mean, there's a lot of, like...
06:39So I read this book about this gentleman...
06:42Quick posting.
06:43I know.
06:45But this guy tried to live an Orthodox Jewish lifestyle for an entire year.
06:49He is Jewish, but he's not Orthodox.
06:51And so one of the traditions of Orthodox Jews is that they, when their spouse is on her
07:00period, they don't touch them.
07:02Right.
07:02Right.
07:02And so for the longest time, they thought that it was a, like, kind of the sexist sort
07:07of, like, oh, gross, get away from me.
07:09And it was more, what he found out was more of like a mourning of the loss of the possibility
07:16of having a child.
07:17Okay.
07:17So when you were shedding...
07:18Come on.
07:19Yeah.
07:19I don't judge you.
07:20I find that very interesting.
07:22In this case, to me, it would seem, because I know there have been issues with stuff like,
07:26you know, tampons and things of that nature.
07:29Toxic shock.
07:29Toxic shock.
07:30And all those sort of situations.
07:32Although...
07:32This would seem to be...
07:33To me, it actually would seem fairly easy.
07:36I was watching the demo video.
07:38She sort of rolls it up, which allows for you to place it where it needs to be.
07:45And then once you let go of it, it expands to what you need it to be.
07:49Right.
07:50Yeah.
07:50I'm still worried about the, yeah, putting it in place.
07:53Right.
07:54By the way, so do they have different sizes of them, do you know?
07:56Well, so I didn't know that.
07:57You said you're using the Joe Namath brand.
07:59No, stop it.
08:01God, jeez, Steve.
08:03Where did he come up with that?
08:05Hi, I'm Joe Namath.
08:06I'm not a woman, and I don't even pretend I know what goes on down there.
08:11Preston, I think there are sizes.
08:13I'm looking now here.
08:13It says mini, size one, and size two, and then you can click the size.
08:17So for the ad campaign, this would be for the regular size.
08:20Yeah, a couple.
08:20And the mini would be...
08:22Couple.
08:22There you go.
08:23Oh, it actually...
08:23A couplet.
08:24It actually goes by, the sizes are based on your age, because I guess your flow changes as you age.
08:32So if you're 30 or older, so that wouldn't be me, that's a size two.
08:36Oh, so...
08:37Under 30 is size one, and then the mini are for first-time users.
08:41We're watching the, again...
08:43Couple.
08:43So this seems...
08:44So, Kathy, the little nubby at the end that one would use to extract would seem to be about
08:49kind of the similar purpose of the string.
08:52Right.
08:52So what you're looking at right now, that's similar to what my friend uses, but the one
08:58that I got from Target, the little nubby is like, is kind of long.
09:01So that's why I don't know if it's so comfortable.
09:03So, to paint the picture, gentlemen, if I will, the cup itself looks like the front end of
09:11a, like a World War II bomb that you would see dropped.
09:15Right.
09:15Yeah.
09:16Exactly.
09:17In a video footage of World War II.
09:18So anyhow, but it's also got a little spire that sticks out from it.
09:23Sort of an extended nipple.
09:24A little handle.
09:25A little extended nipple.
09:26Yeah.
09:26Like a very lengthy nipple, if you will.
09:28Right.
09:28And that is what...
09:29Now, we're looking at something that actually have a ring on.
09:31And I guess these are reusable ones, Kathy.
09:33Oh, those are party ones.
09:34No, they're reusable.
09:35You watch them.
09:36Okay.
09:36Which is why it's environmentally...
09:38Better.
09:39Better.
09:39Okay.
09:39And it seems to be of a very malleable polyurethane sort of thing.
09:45I do see the merit in this on one level.
09:48I think it might be a way I would go...
09:49So, let me ask you one thing.
09:51And again, not to be...
09:53Oh, yeah.
09:53No, at this point.
09:54Go ahead.
09:54She's showing to me that they do have the Joe Namath brand on Amazon.
09:57That with the tampon, you are also sort of cleaning the area when you extract.
10:09Can you extract this?
10:11Oh, wait.
10:11What do you mean?
10:12Like cleaning?
10:12As in, you think taking the tampon out is cleaning?
10:15It does.
10:15It's a cotton swab.
10:16Okay.
10:16I don't know.
10:17No.
10:18Because a lot of time...
10:19I only wipe my butt.
10:20No.
10:20Think about it.
10:21It's like...
10:21It's saturated, so not so much.
10:24Okay.
10:24That makes sense.
10:25By the way...
10:26I was just curious if that served a purpose that I was unaware of.
10:28On this cup, to describe that little tip again, if you were a guy and you have one
10:32of these hands, you would take your finger and flick it and go...
10:34Oh.
10:35And make that noise.
10:36Now I know you're...
10:37Okay.
10:37Or...
10:38I have to say...
10:40Kathy, I think this actually...
10:43As Nick started again, and I agreed with his perception, this seemed like something
10:47you're going to be opposed to, now that I hear it explained, it seems actually more
10:52cleanly.
10:53Right?
10:54Just the extraction process seems like it would be difficult because you're talking
10:57about something that's not plugged...
10:59It's not saturated into something.
11:01It's...
11:01It's in a cup.
11:02Exactly.
11:03And you've got to pull that cup out and there could be spillage.
11:06It's like playing a game of operation.
11:08Yes.
11:08Yes.
11:09Like that.
11:10Will your nose light up if you hit the edges of your...
11:12But you want to do it in the shower, right?
11:14I think the...
11:15Oh, in the shower, of course.
11:16I think the shower is a good idea.
11:18You wouldn't do it while standing on the console here in the studio, right?
11:20I mean, no.
11:21I think I'm not going to go that far.
11:22But if you were at work and you didn't obviously have the shower, would you then have two cups,
11:28like take one out, put the other one in?
11:29Because, listen, I don't know how these things work, but like if you took it out and then
11:34you had to like clean it in the sink...
11:36Right.
11:36...you couldn't do that because you're still expelling everything, right?
11:40That's true.
11:41But I think also the point of this is you can go much longer than a tampon.
11:45Okay.
11:45So you're not going...
11:46You can go to work for the day and then come home and change.
11:49And if you have three of them at work, you could set up like a little three-card Monty
11:52game with a little ball underneath when it comes.
11:54Ooh, watch the ball.
11:55Which one has the ball?
11:56Two more and you have a flight.
11:57That too...
11:58Yes.
11:59I have a flight of menstrual fluid.
12:01Hey, Kathy, what does an ablation do?
12:04Because I hear like some women after having babies will have an ablation to help with the flow.
12:09Well, Jerry Lewis invented that, right?
12:11A light.
12:11A light.
12:11A light.
12:12A light.
12:14Case, I'm not exactly sure, but my guess is that it helps with...
12:18Because your flow gets heavier.
12:20Okay.
12:20I think a lot of times as you age.
12:21Okay.
12:21All right.
12:22Calls from ladies who either approve or disapprove.
12:25I want to hear.
12:25Let's go to Rebecca, first of all.
12:27Hi, Rebecca.
12:28Good morning.
12:30Hi.
12:30Good morning.
12:31Oh, that was well done, Rebecca.
12:33Hey, Rebecca, what's up?
12:36So I have been a cup wearer for many years.
12:39I actually started with the disposable soft cups, which are really easy to use, and you
12:46can actually wear them during sex.
12:48All right.
12:48So let me just ask again, as a completely ignorant to this, so they make them in both disposable
12:54and reusable?
12:57Yeah.
12:57So the disposable ones, I just kind of wanted to start out with to try them out, but they
13:01do also work for 12 hours, so you get that long-term use out of them.
13:07Okay.
13:07Or use a tampon, you know?
13:09Yeah.
13:09And you prefer it?
13:11I absolutely do.
13:12So it's like, it's super easy to use.
13:15There is.
13:15So the new one that I use, the Diva Cup, there is like a suction that forms to prevent it from
13:21leaking, so I typically change in the shower.
13:25Now, am I reading correctly that it says here on what you were going to comment on, that you
13:30can have sex while you have it in?
13:33Absolutely.
13:34So there is another one that I got I haven't tried yet, but it's similar to the soft cup.
13:38It doesn't have that little nub, so it's kind of more like a saucer, and it does not
13:45leak when you're having sex, and it doesn't soak anything that's soaking in you.
13:49Okay, so, okay, and again, we're trying to slalom this, because listen, there is so much
13:57that we get away with as guys with not having to operate all this additional plumbing and
14:04concern and so on and so forth.
14:05So my, I would endeavor in every way to make it easier to use.
14:11Listen, I completely, my heart and my accolades go to anyone who's attempting to juggle that
14:18kind of stuff.
14:19Rochelle has had difficulty with it her entire life.
14:21Oh my God.
14:22Okay, so it's not easy for her.
14:24No.
14:24Every single time.
14:25Yeah.
14:25So she's got some above and beyond issues.
14:27And it can be, it can be horrible.
14:29It's very tough.
14:30I feel horrible for her every time that it happens, and it's just, she's been going to
14:36doctors for years to try and figure out what's wrong.
14:39Yeah.
14:39And they can't figure it out.
14:41And you know that, that here, no pun, it's like, the clock is ticking to your next encounter
14:46with it, and that's, yeah, it's coming no matter what.
14:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:49So my friend who uses it just texted me, and she said, no way, I would not have sex with
14:53it.
14:54Okay.
14:55Well, I guess she said there's a different kind that's like a saucer, so I don't know.
14:57What does it say as far as the, under the Joe Namath specs there?
15:01Well, stop.
15:02But wait, so I read about, you know, putting it in place, but there's also, you can read about
15:07removing it, and it's first, the first step is wash your hands.
15:11The second step is relax.
15:13Okay.
15:14It's a picture of Joe Namath holding a football guard present.
15:17With, with, with my cup, go deep.
15:21Yeah.
15:22Hi, I'm Broadway Joe.
15:24Oh my God.
15:25I'm not saying I know a lot about lady parts, but I do know.
15:28All right, let me go to Kelly.
15:31Hey there, Kelly.
15:32Good morning, It.
15:34Good morning, It.
15:35Kelly, what's up?
15:36I love this conversation so much.
15:38I've been encouraging my friends to switch for months now.
15:42Okay, and are you being met with deaf ears, or are they opening up about it?
15:47So, I think they have the same concerns as Kathy with, you know, inserting, removing, and
15:53then how much it holds, too.
15:55I think it's so much better than tampon.
15:57Well, I've, again, it does make sense.
16:01And once you go to it, you're never going to go back.
16:02Like, when people who switch, they, they are committed to it.
16:05Kelly, how long ago did you make the switch?
16:07So, I'm actually pretty new to it.
16:09I just switched over the summer.
16:10Oh, okay.
16:11And I'm actually pregnant now, so it's not like me.
16:13Oh, so you don't need it right now.
16:15Can I ask you also, so in the course of an average day, and Kathy, please feel free to
16:20chime in, I should say, how often would one normally replace a tampon?
16:27During the course of a day.
16:29Oh.
16:29Oh.
16:30Oh, my God.
16:31And Kelly, yeah, depending on, I assume, what you're used to emitting.
16:35And which day.
16:35Yeah.
16:37Um, I don't know.
16:38I would say at least five to six.
16:40So, five to six.
16:41So, you could get away with this for, like, 12 hours?
16:44That's what they say.
16:44Oh, yeah.
16:45I only use it two to three.
16:46I probably switch it out two to three times a day.
16:48Oh, I'd be in.
16:49I'd be in.
16:49That would be, to avoid doing that five, six times a day to just doing one shot?
16:53Oh, my God.
16:54Yeah.
16:54Totally.
16:55I'm going to do it now.
16:56Kelly, when you remove it, um, you, like, you wash it and then put the same one back
17:00in?
17:02Yeah.
17:02So, I just rinse it out.
17:03Um, you boil it.
17:05You're supposed to boil it.
17:06Stick them in a stew.
17:07So, it's usually, like, take that.
17:09Okay.
17:09Nice.
17:10And Kathy, like, we can buy you these as gifts and stuff, like, different colors and things
17:14like that.
17:14We can get you one that says, world's best boss.
17:16Yeah.
17:17Yeah.
17:17I'm going to get a menstrual cup in the mail now.
17:20Yeah.
17:21Wow.
17:21Oh, my God.
17:22Listen, we have loads of people on the line that want to talk about this.
17:25All right.
17:26But we have to take a break.
17:28Um, can I go to one more?
17:29I would like, yeah.
17:30We need to revisit this.
17:31Let me go to Rachel.
17:32Hi, Rachel.
17:32Good morning.
17:34Hi.
17:34Good morning.
17:35Hey, what's up, Rachel?
17:36I've been using the cup.
17:37Gadzikas.
17:37I've been using the cup for a while.
17:40I'm on my third one.
17:41Okay.
17:41You're supposed to throw them out about every two years.
17:43Um, or a little less.
17:45But, you know, there's a measuring tool on the inside.
17:48So, Kathy, you could actually measure how much you are letting go.
17:54Okay.
17:54Got it.
17:54Got it.
17:55Oh, okay.
17:56So, as you pull it out, it's got little notches on the side of it that tells you how much.
18:00Okay.
18:00On the inside, it actually says, like, quarter ounce, half ounce.
18:04Wow.
18:04Wow.
18:04Okay.
18:04So, this.
18:05It's like a jigger.
18:06Exactly.
18:07Yeah.
18:07Yeah.
18:08On the rocks, please.
18:09Right.
18:11I'm a big fan.
18:12Good luck.
18:12I love it.
18:13All right, Rachel.
18:13Thanks for the hands up.
18:14That's what, I mean, anybody who uses them, that's what they say.
18:17Like, you're never going to go back once you get it down.
18:19Reducing the amount of times you have to swap it out.
18:22Yep.
18:22It appears to be less detrimental to the environment.
18:25Also, it appears to be, just in general, more hygienic.
18:30Nick, did you see any negatives on the text board?
18:32Because I didn't see any, and I didn't see any negative calls either.
18:35No, I mean, just people who are eating their breakfast.
18:37Well, yeah.
18:37I mean, that's, yes.
18:38Right.
18:38Yeah, yeah.
18:39Of course.
18:39But I'd say, like, for half the audience, this is a really relatable topic.
18:43All right.
18:43Most definitely.
18:44Okay.
18:44And those of us who are married are probably concerned about our ladies as well, about that
18:48whole thing.
18:48So, yes.
18:49I would like to applaud Kathy Romano for being so forthcoming.
18:55No pun intended.
18:56No pun intended.
18:57With her personal life.
18:58I will let you know how it goes.
19:00Please.
19:00Keep us updated.
19:01Let's start posting your flow chart.
19:04Okay.
19:04On the air.
19:05And let's add Joe Namath and see if you can get an endorsement.
19:08Yeah.
19:08Yeah.
19:08Yeah.
