00:00Hi, so in this video, we are going to go over how to use Chatter within Salesforce.
00:09So Chatter is basically an internal communication tool.
00:14So think of it as a cross between an instant messenger combined with some elements of social media.
00:23Now it's not for outside, it's only for internal purposes.
00:26But when we dive into it, you can see what I mean by exactly that.
00:33Now, one thing to keep in mind is that the real value of Chatter is that it is contextual, meaning that if I'm on a specific record and I communicate with someone from that record, that person wouldn't have to go searching for it.
00:48They can simply get a notification, click on the link, and they'll be at the record talking to you right then and there.
00:55And this is incredibly powerful over using emails where even if you notify someone of trying to communicate with them by email, they'll have to come into the system and they will have to find the record.
01:08So it saves time, it's convenient, and the record is saved right then and there on a specific record that you are trying to communicate with someone on.
01:18So without any more, let's get started.
01:25So on, you can see that I'm now on an opportunity within Salesforce and on an opportunity very much like what you will see on leads, accounts or contacts even.
01:41And then we have the activity management box on the right side of the page.
01:49Now we've gone over specifically how to manage activities and create them on a previous video.
01:56However, you'll see that there's also a chatter tab right beside the activity bar on each of those records, whether it is a lead, account, contact or an opportunity.
02:09So it will look the same no matter where you are in the system.
02:13So if I click into the chatter tab, it will pull me to the chatter detail screen and I can just click on the share and update box and it will reveal a communication box for me.
02:29Now, in order to communicate with someone, you have to add to mention them.
02:36So as soon as I do that and start typing the name, it will scour through the users and identify them.
02:44And I simply click on the username in order to have them linked to this communication that I'm trying to share.
02:53So after that, I'll just type in a message.
02:59I'll just simply type that.
03:04Click share.
03:06And it's been posted and that person will now be notified.
03:12So let's now take a look at what it looks from the other end.
03:18I just chatted Jason.
03:20I sent a message to him, so I'm now logged in as Jason to see what it looks from my side.
03:27As soon as you log in, you'll notice the red bell icon for notifications on the top right of your screen.
03:34If I click into it, I'll see that someone has mentioned me in a chatter post right there.
03:40Now I can just click into it and it will bring me to the detail section.
03:45Again, as soon as I come to the screen, I can see that message that has been typed and where I've been mentioned.
03:54However, more importantly, I can see who's mentioned me and also the record where I have been mentioned.
04:02So if I click on this link for the record, instantly I come to this screen.
04:07And if I go to the chatter tab, I can see that Julie has sent me a message here.
04:12So if I want to get back to Julie, I can comment here and hit comment.
04:26Julie will now see that I've commented and it will look very much the same as it does on my side.
04:32So what if you miss, for example, a notification and you don't get that bell?
04:39You may have clicked on it by mistake or you may be looked over it once or you're not getting the red bell icon anymore.
04:47So in those circumstances, we say that it's always best practice to maybe go to your chatter tab that you see on your screen at least start of the day or at some points during the day.
04:58So if I click on the chatter tab and click on to me on the left hand side, I can see all the chatter mentions where I have been sort of tagged.
05:10And you can monitor this just to make sure as well that you don't miss any notifications at any point.
05:18So that's all there is to chatter. Hope this was helpful. Thank you.
