00:00Hey, it's Nikki, and it's my favorite day of the week.
00:11It's Doggie Dog Thursdays with my friend Sarah from Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.
00:16How are you today?
00:17I am good, and we actually don't have a doggie today.
00:20Right!
00:21We have this little kitty.
00:22So cute.
00:23Now, what's his name again?
00:25His name is Caliban.
00:26His litter was actually all named after Shakespeare characters, so he is from The Tempest.
00:32Aww.
00:32And you said his litter came in, so you got all the brothers and sisters of the litter?
00:38We had all, I believe there were five, maybe six.
00:41We had all of them, and they came in.
00:43I was actually an owner that could no longer care for them, so they came in about three weeks.
00:48He's about nine weeks old now, and he spent a bunch of time in a foster home.
00:52Oh, wow.
00:53Do we know what happened to his eye?
00:55I don't think we know.
00:57I think that's how it was when he came in, but it doesn't affect him at all.
01:01He's very sweet.
01:02You can see he's a little rambunctious.
01:04Yeah, he's not shy at all.
01:06He's so cute.
01:07Yeah, I grew up with a one-eyed cat.
01:09Her name was Crystal, and yeah, she had ran away from home because she loved being outdoors,
01:14and she had run away and then came back, and her eye was hanging off, so we took her to
01:20the vet, and they sniffed it and sewed it up.
01:23What?
01:23She was so cute, though.
01:26So cute.
01:26Yeah, I think he might have been maybe a birth thing.
01:29I don't know.
01:30He came in with us like that.
01:32He is a great example of the wonderful work all our foster volunteers do.
01:37We are always in need of more.
01:38We're still getting litters of kittens.
01:41Generally, kitten season is about over at the end of summer, but we're still going.
01:46Our foster volunteers take them home and take care of them, show them how to be kittens,
01:51and help them learn to be adult cats.
01:53And for every foster animal that someone takes, it gives us room in the shelter to have another
01:58animal that we can care for there.
02:00So fosters are a huge part of what we do.
02:02And they take dogs, too.
02:03We have dogs, little dogs, big dogs.
02:06That's awesome.
02:07Now, what type of home would Caliban, right?
02:09Yes.
02:09Caliban.
02:10I think any home that's ready for a kitten and knows that they are a little more work,
02:14they do need some attention.
02:17They're rambunctious.
02:18They're going to play and take a little while to get used to their surroundings and their
02:22new home.
02:23But he looks like he's ready for a nap.
02:25I think I woke him up when I brought him.
02:28So he is so, so cute.
02:30Now, what's the most important question someone should ask when coming in to adopt a pet from
02:35your shelter?
02:35The first thing we want people to ask is we need it's more of them telling us we need them
02:40to tell us what their lifestyle is, what kind of home they're looking for, so we can find
02:43a pet that fits them well.
02:45So we've had people that come in and, you know, see a pet online and think it's really
02:49cute and, you know, that's the pet they want and it's not necessarily a good fit for them.
02:54So we want to make sure that we're going to find a pet that will fit with their lifestyle
02:57and be a good fit for their lifestyle, their family, their housing situation, and just find
03:03something that is a good fit for both of them.
03:05Yeah, we have to make sure Caliban goes to a great home.
03:08So, so cute.
