00:07judgment when parading on campus in robes similar to those worn by the Ku Klux Klan as part of an

00:12assignment. Aizat Shamsuddin, founder of the initiative to promote tolerance and prevent

00:17violence, said any discussion about the American extremist group without context may inadvertently

00:22glorify or normalize hate groups, especially when visual symbols such as the infamous KKK

00:27robes are used without proper explanation. Aizat said that besides being notorious for its history

00:33of lynchings, violence and white supremacist behavior in the US, the modern-day KKK has also

00:39been linked to attacks on Muslims and other minority groups in the West, making the topic

00:43even more delicate. Meanwhile, retired professor Tajuddin Abdullah questioned the purpose of the

00:48assignment, stating that the KKK, while historically significant in the US, had no direct relevance to

00:54Malaysia. Tajuddin, a UITM graduate himself, said the Israeli occupation of Gaza would have been a

01:00more relevant topic for students to delve into, given it had a real and current connection to

01:04Malaysia's foreign policy and public sentiment. Former MP Taufik Ismail said while the students

01:10might have been trying to highlight the different types of racism that existed, their message only

01:15ended up creating confusion.
